1Is it possible to choose local user,(instead of local system) in sql setup service login and then use mixed mode
default configuration in report server or choose configure server later. I will be using a third party host using vista, unfortunately I do not have my own server ( I do not have a domain yet)
vista sql 2005 standard vs 2008. ultimate
2 What is the best configuration for a new aspiring asp.net ssrs developer.
3 Do I need to configure the server if I choose local user?
4. what is the best way to configure sql?

By the way what items
should I look forward in choosing a web host,(who is willing to give alot of help to developers) my interests include ssrs 2008 sql 2008 sql 2005
asp.net mvc, crystal reports, wcf infragistics. I am really interested in showing
examples in sql reporting services, crystal reports wcf , web services , infragistics
asp.net mvc intrigues me.......
I would like to get on a track to eventually use sharepoint services

This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database)

LOCAL USER Vs GLOBAL USER Set In Agent Service

My replication is not working. I was able to create a transactional replication successfully. However, when i tried starting the agent on the snapshot, it wouldn't work. I figure that it was because my agent service login is different from that of the subscriber. my publisher and distributor is on local user whereas my subsciber sql services use our global login.

Hi all,

I've recently installed SQL-Server 2005 on our production server (win server r2, .net framework 2.0, 3.0 etc ..).
In order to improve the security mechanism I'm allowing only windows authentication (not mixed mode).

If each site and the sql-process is given a specific user account, could it have some bad performance issues ?
Security-wise, which is better ?

Few things to point out:
1. The SQL process was assigned with a local user account (i.e : [machine name]SqlServerUser) and not using NT AUTHORITYNETWORK_SERVICE.
2. Every ASP.Net site on the server assigned with a local account (i.e : [machine name]SomeSiteUser) through the IIS's Directory Security tab and not using IUSR_[machine name].
3. Each "Site User" has the appropriate database authorization in sql.
Any given help will be appreciated, thanks.

I've noticed at least five other posts on the web with this problem with no solutions given. Seems there are MANY people with this particular problem--hint:Microsoft Pay Attention. Help!

When installing SP2 for SQL Server 2005 I get this error message:

MSI (s) (E0!68) [09:02:25:673]: Product: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 (64-bit) -- Error 29512. SQL Server Setup was unable add user OUR-LAN-DOMAINOUR-SERVICE-ACCOUNT to local group OUR-LAN-DOMAINSQLServer2005SQLAgentUser$OUR-DATABASE-SERVER-NAME$MSSQLSERVER.

The error message seems to contradict itself: it says "local group" which seems to me to mean the group on the database server itself YET the group name is prefixed with our LAN domain name. So which one is it?

Also, I'm not sure if this message means there is a problem in Active Directory or in the security model of SQL Server itself. I don't think it means SQL Server itself because I don't think SQL Server has groups... it only has Roles, right?

We looked in Active Directory and the user above does indeed exist in the domain-level group mentioned.

Please help!

SQL Express 2005 SP2 And Local Service Account

I'm trying to do an unattended install of SQL Express 2005 SP2, and specify that the service runs under the Local Service account. Prior versions of SQL Express worked fine.

With SQL Express 2005 SP2, however, the install fails on XP Pro SP2. It *does* work on Winows 2003 Server.

Here's the command line I'm using:

SQLEXPR.EXE /QB ADDLOCAL=ALL INSTANCENAME=FOO SECURITYMODE=SQL SAPWD=BAR SQLACCOUNT="NT AUTHORITYLOCAL SERVICE"

It fails at the end of the install, saying it can't start the service. If I use "NETWORK SERVICE", it works fine, but that's more privileges than I want the service to have. Is there something else on the command line that I can try to get it to work?

Is this even supported?

Basically I have had to change pc's so I copied and pasted my ASPNET.MDF and LDF from my old pc to new PC including webpages/apps etc.. created.
However now all I get is "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path """"
Just don't understand what permissions the db should have, does it need to match the SQL Express owner...

I installed my asp.net 2.0 web application  and sql express june editon on my windows 2003 server.When the application tries to reach the database i am getting the following error"Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed."I can understand that it has something to do with user right but more than that I am pretty lost. Can anyone translate this error for me and give me some tips on what do to.I checked first the user running the sql express service and saw it was the NETWORK SERVICE user. I changed it to be the local system account but that did not make any difference. The application is running just fine on my local computer(Win XP sp2). This one has SQL express April edition though.

One of the configuration options that can be set for the server is called "user options". User options contains sub-options such as ansi_warnings, ansi_padding, ansi_nulls, arithabort, etc..

Using T-SQL, how are these set?

sp_configure 'user options', @configvalue = 'value'

i.e. Are the individual option values summed. Say I wanted to set ansi_warnings (whose value is 8) and ansi_nulls (whose value is 32) on and all other user options off. Then is my @configvalue 40?

Sorry, but I don't feel BOL is clear on how to set these options.

Excuse me, I’m a relative newbie.
 
My question: What’s the best practice for developing locally and then uploading to a production web site?�
 
 
Here’s my plan:
I will use ASP.NET 2.0. I want to use Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition to develop locally using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition (.mdf file).
 
Then I want to upload my changes to a web site that uses the full version of SQL Server 2005 (not the Express Edition.)
 
 
I know how to upload my .aspx files to the remote site using Visual Web Developer.
 
But how should I handle my data? I imagine I can keep a little test data in my local .mdf database, and then just make sure the tables on the remote SQL Server always exactly mirror what I’ve got locally.  
 
Then I just upload any changed .aspx files, which should work both locally and remotely.
 
Is this the best way? Or will I have to every time first change something in my .aspx files, to handle the data connection difference between my local db to the remote db?

I have developed some packages (around 40) on my local system.
now i m trying to move the integration services project on the production server.
when i double click on the intergration services from the local drive of the server all the packages are up(works fine till here)
now i open any of the package-->this is what happens

Error loading RTS-IMRB-DISTRIBUTION.dtsx: The connection "Excel Connection Manager" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.

and finally the prompt for the OLE DB error
prompt 4-->[OLE DB Destination [14]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_CANNOTACQUIRECONNECTIONFROMCONNECTIONMANAGER. The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "NDELNTX46.IMRB RTS.siddharth" failed with error code 0xC0202009. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the AcquireConnection method call failed.



Possible work around suggested to me was that in the base system(read local) before exporting go to package properties and the security and set the security as "Encrypt all with password" and also put some Password which i did and it worked for one.
other thing i thought off was creating the configuration file but first i thought of fully running one complete package on the production and then think of the configuration file.
so i went inside the invidual excel connection and pointed it to the correct new file location and also edited the OLE DB database connection and put my user name and password and checked save password and trying to run the entire thing.
but still the same problem..
one more thing i observed was that my OLE DB was going off everytime i am running the package.and i have to enter my password again...so othe save password i guess is not working

I know its a little long post..but i wanted to explain the entire process and problem to all with description.
all suggestions are welcome

 I do understand that it is highly recomended to have aserprate user (perfered a domain user account) for each of the SQL Server service and SQL Agent service.
What is the reason behind that? (Someone told me to not run the service with an account that has a powerul privilegs! - I don't undrstanmd this point can you explain it please?)
What is the diffrent between: 1- Local System account 2 -Network Service account

Is it possible to run SQL Server Service and SQL Server Agent Service under local system(not Domain account) without granting SA Permissions on the server. is it ever possible to run by just granting some registry permissions and not making BUILTINAdministrators a SA on the server.

Local DB - No Option To Set Instance ID

I am working on an existing project that uses sql server 2014 local db. I've installed it (there was no option to set an instance id). Using sql server 20014 management studio and setting the server name to (localdb) results in this error

Network related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a connection to sql server.......

So obviously its not there, how can i test this? There's no service I can see. The installation procedure completed without any errors, what could be going on here ?

I installed sql server 2005 sp2 including business intelligence development suite , however I got a message
some client components not compablitable .This morning I searched my programs and found that I have new
visual studio 2005 on my computer (before I just had vs 2008) as well as business intelligence
developer (which does not work) It seems I I would like to get rid of vs 2005 also
fix business intelligence studio . Previously I deleted vs 2005 express off my computer........(I have vista

Error 15185: There Is No Remote User 'sa' Mapped To Local User '(null)' From The Remote Server 'DTS_FSERVER'.

I am trying to add a linked server from a AMD x64 server (Windows 2003) with SQL Server 2005 64 bit to a Server running SQL 2000. These are not in the same domain.

I can create a linked server using the option "Be made using the login's current security context" but can not when trying to specify the security context, i.e. sa and the sa password. When I try I get the following message:

Msg 15185, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_addlinkedsrvlogin, Line 98
There is no remote user 'sa' mapped to local user '(null)' from the remote server 'DTS_FSERVER'.

I have several other x64 server that I have no problem creating a linked server and specifying sa and the sa password.

The problem with using "the login's current security context" option is that I get an error when trying to run any Jobs against the linked server. The job fails withe the following error:

Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM. Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7416). The step failed.

I'm sure the two errors are related. Any ideas what is going on?

I would like to configure the permitted hosts setting for the Report Server. According to MSDN, the Syntax is:

 <PermittedHosts>
          <HostName>Adventure-Works.com</HostName>
          <HostName>hotmail.com</HostName>
     </PermittedHosts>

In case of having only one host, is the <HostName> tag mandatory? I was not able to find more information regarding the xsd on which the configuration file is based. To be more specific, is it possible to define the PermittedHost like this or will this result in an error?

SQL 'Server' Or 'Local' Database For Uploading To Hosting Service Provider

Hi, I'm developing a website using VWD 2005 Express, which needs a Membership system and a products database. Using the VWD inherent Web Site Administration tool makes the membership set up easy but by default it creates a 'Local' SQL database in a folder named 'Apps_Data' in the VWD project. My question is: considering I will need to upload my web site to a Hosting Service, would it be better to change the default so that the membership systems, and the product database I need, are created in an SQL 'Server' database instead of a 'Local' database?
The hosting service I am considering using is having a bit of a problem understanding this question, I hope it makes sense to someone or am I asking a stupid question?

Using SQL Server Express In Commercial App

I'm working on a server based ASP.NET app.

I'd also like to deploy it as a single user version.

Rather than rewrite it to .Net windows (at least initially), I'm thinking about having the user install Cassini and SQL Server Express on their machines, and run the app as a "local" web app.

Clearly, there are a lot of issues to consider.

One is whether to even think about using SQL Server Express for this.

So, two questions on that, initially:

Q1) Are there any licensing issues? I would direct the user to download directly from MS.

Q2) What would it take to get SQL Server Express and the application to start talking to each other once SQL, Cassini and the application files were installed?

> I'm assuming I would have to build "data base initiation" and "file create" procedures, etc., but what about just having the App find SQL, start it, and get it configured, etc for use. How hard would it be to proceduralize this so that it would look to the user like a "standard" application software installation procedure?

Any guidance on this would be appreciated.

I need help finding a good back up solution for SQL Server 2005.  I am hosting several databases in a shared environment and do not have admin rights to detach & copy & reattach the database file.  I can have the hoster back up the file, but that is a manual process and I have had other issues with it in the past (access rights, cost, etc.).  I have also tried creating a new business intelligence project, but have found it difficult to do a complete exact copy (while maintaining primary key values) as I run into many concurrency violations.  This is especially true in databases that use the standard asp.net membership services tables.
Is there a way to get an exact duplicate of the structure & data of a sql server 2005 database without having to create a new Business Intelligence Project?  Or is there an easy way to do this within BI that doesn't require a table-by-table setup?  The primary purpose of this backup for me is for use on my development machine.  Backup for data security/recovery is handled by the ISP.

Best Approach For Appl Development-SQL Server 2005

Hi,

I'm looking for some input as to "how to" create a desktop application that will be using SQL Server 2005 with the possibility of becoming a web application later.

So far I have looked at Access 2007 as a candidate to build the appropriate forms and update the SQL Server, however I'm still wondering if there is a better approach considering that this app may likely become a web app, and I should bypass Access 2007 and use some other product, and it doesn't have to be a MS product, and could be Open Source.

The SQL Server 2005 part has been loaded and works fine with the various management tools.

With that said are there any opinions on what other application(s) could be used to build the front-end as rapidly as possible and still have scalability?

Unable To Start SQL Express 2005 Service As A Network User

I am trying to start ms sql server 2005 express as a network user from originally starting as local system. I cannot start the service.

I have given this network user administrator access to sql express from the sql server surface area configuration "Add New Administrator". I have went into the local users/groups and added this network user to the 3 security groups

SQLServer2005MSSQLBrowserUser$SQL1


I receive one alert int he event logs/application

EventID: 26010

The server could not load the certificate it needs to initiate an SSL connection. It returned the following error: 0x8009030d. Check certificates to make sure they are valid.

I receive five errors in the event logs/application

EventID: 26014

Unable to load user specified certificate. The server will not accept a connection. You should verify that the certificate is correctly installed. See "Configuring Certificate for Use by SSL" in Books Online.

EventID: 17182

TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80092004, status code 0x80

EventID: 17182
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x80092004, status code 0x1

EventID: 17826

Could not start the network library because of an internal error in the network library. To determine the cause, review the errors immediately prceding this one in the error log.

EventID: 17120

SQL Server could not spawn the FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.

I don't recall assigning any sql specific certificates. The reason I'm trying to run this as a network user is because an application on a remote windows server requires it.

After starting the service back running as local system as it was before, I went into the
SQL Server Management Studio Express and edited the properties for this new network user I wish to run the service as. I gave him full access including checking all grants in securables.

I now see a bit of a difference in the event logs with these errors.

EventID: 17058

initerrlog: Could not open the log file 'c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG.' Operating system error =5(Access is denied).

I saw a notification when changing the sql server service's logon that the new network user has been granted the log on locally right.

The second and last new error is

EventID: 17053

UpdateUptimeRegKey: Operating system error 5(Access is denied.) encountered.
