Hi Everyone, I have an ASP.Net webpage for uploading multiple files. The process is, when the client uploads files..using SQL queries I am inserting into a database1 and then calling a stored procedure to remove garbage data from database1 and insert this new data into a production database(Database2). When the file size is aroung 6-7MB it executes fine....but when the size increases to 30 MB I can see the data in Database1 but only when the Stored procedure is called...after a minute or so, I get the following error in the analyser. database : MS SQL server ver 6.50.201 problem: server startup / server time out details SQL server shows usage of 100 % CPU utilization, if started automatically / manually. and does not proceed / hangs up(server time out), but win nt operates extremely slow.
The background of the situation in brief is as stated below. The errorlog was found to have the messages warning : OPEN OBJECTS parameter may be too low. Attempt was made to free up descriptors in localdes() Run sp_configure to increase parameter value.
Error : 644, severity : 21, state; state 1 the non clustered leaf row entry for page 2 row 1 was not found in index page 40 indexid 2 database 'tempdb'
Error : 2620 severity 21 state 3 the offset of the row number at offset 32 does not match the entry in the offset table of the follwoing page : page pointer = 0x1395800, page no= 40, status = 0x2, objectid = 1, indexid = 2
Action taken I used the sp_option to increase the open objects from default 500 to 1000, and the LE threshold maximum value to 400 from the default 200. after which I used reconfigure go and restarted the computer to take the effect. The following did work fine and server was working ok. But then from yesterday I am having the problem that the MS SQL sever is utilizing the cpu to 98 - 99 % and I am not able to connect to the server. I tried to start the server with the minimal configuration by specifying the -f option in the service manager start up options, it showed the following message 00/12/07 10:40:49.73 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure. 00/12/07 10:40:50.02 ods Unable to connect. The open procedure for service "MSSQLServer" in DLL "SQLCTR60.DLL" has taken longer than the established wait time to complete. The wait time in milliseconds is shown in the data. DB-LIBRARY error - SQL Server connection timed out.
The dbid is / was 6 for both the instances, the database which is having this dbid is database name "AM" and is having above 1300 tables (approx) what could be the problem and solution for it? kindly help me out of this situation.

I have several DTS jobs that runs well as a job with my nt login account for the SQL agent service startup account, but if I use the System account they fail with this error. " Error opening datafile: Access is denied. Error source: Microsoft Data Transformation Services Flat File Rowset Provider"
The data has change access to the System account under the NT security.
I try to use sqlDataSource to gather the input for GrideView. The SELECT statement can run on SQL SEVER 2005, but can't get response when it is running on Visual Web Developer 2005 Express. We have some big problems with our SQL Server 2000 database right now. The code has not been changed for over halv an year and some days ago we started to get this error.

(We are now pretty sure that all errors occurs when we are doing inserts to the database.)
I am not sure it is the right forum. The Exception is thrown in C# app while saving a few databases. Small databases are being saved OK but this one has 12,934,142KB after the last backup. I am not even sure what the words "last backup" mean in this case. It is possible that is the size of the database from two months ago when first the problem appeared. Since then I've neglected backup being preoccupied with other problems although the database grew.
The backup is executed by this store procedure:

What can I do about it? What is the rational way of backing up databases of this size?
What is the rational way of maintaining databases of this size in SQLEXPRESS? Shall I perhaps break this database down into fragments?
The tables contain daily records, about 500 per day. I can conceivably create another database every month or so but it will be a hassle.
How can I increase the timeout?
I just repeated the backup. All databases have been saved except this last one--Imoved that backup operation down the chain to be the last one. One database with about 1.5GBytes was saved fine.
I checked the timeout it is 15 sec. One has not control over it in C#. It does not have a Set option.

Hello, we have a fairly large .NET application that uses MSSQL Server 2005 Express.
I am getting the following error loggged to our error log somewhat often:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
IIS and MSSQL server are on the same box, and talk locally. The server box is NOT losing internet so that is not the problem.
What could be causing this? Is this because we don't have enough system resources on the server, meaning CPU, RAM? Or is it poorly written ASP.NET or missing configuration information in the web.config file?
Dear All, I have a page on the web site that will upload a CVS fiile. Then, it will read the file, and insert the data to the sql database. (around 14,000 records) I'm not sure why, it seems like whenever we do the upload/insertion for the first time, it will always return this timeout error. System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type System.Web.HttpUnhandledException was thrown. ---> System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Timeout expired After I got this error, and do the upload again. Then the upload will work fine. So I wonder is it when I got the timeout error, will the SQL server clean up its used resources or something, so my function will work the next time? Hey, From time to time i get this error "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." so I tried to change the connection string by adding thie following "Connect Timeout=200; pooling='true'; Max Pool Size=200" but still it is giving the same error! so why is this happening ? and what can I do! btw the timeout expired happens when a stored procedure is executed at the Fill method ! But randomly (Frequently), its giving timeout when i execute it from .NET Envirnment. If i execute it at that same time in Management studio, i am not getting the error. Hi! I am having a problem with my windows app in VB.net. I am just trying to do a very simple select command to retrieve some data. I am using a hosting server with a VPN. When i click on the button it keeps giving me the error above. When I use server management express to do the same query it works fine and relatively fast. So I have tried setting the CommandTimeout to 120 but when it stops, the debugger shows that the value of the COmmandTimeout is 30, although it stops after about 15 secs. I am getting this error on web server. My Appication is working fine on my Local Network where DB server and web server are on different machine. But getting TimeOut on web server. I tested the query on Query Analyzer it takes hardly 3 sec (Max) to execute. There is only Select query and total number of records are around 2100 which is not a big data. I have used Connect Timeout = 180 in connection string which is also not effective. please tell me how can I handle this exception.
We've been having timeout problems. In our development environment we have IIS and SQL Server 2005 both running on the same box. We use VWD or our dev server's IIS to run the apps. What happens is the database stops responding to our web applications and we continue to get the timeout error. I can still execute queries from Management Studio but all of the web apps all timeout. Then, the only was we can get the database to start responding again is if we restart the SQL Server service. Any ideas as to why the database would stop responding to all of the web apps but not Management Studio? It tends to happen a couple times a day when we are developing. Only the other developer and myself use the DEV environment.

Is there any other place where a timeout can be set in an ASP.NET 2.0 application?Thanks for any ideas.

I'm trying to do mass inserts/updates. Using Transactions. The table hierarchy contains 3 levels (TL1, TL2, and TL3): Here is what I'm trying to accomplish:
1) Start Begin Transaction (in desperation, I've tried all the isolation levels- I was hoping ReadUncommitted would work!) 2) Do an Insert/Update in table TL1 (this works). 3) Grab the ID from step 2 and do a SELECT on table TL2 to determine if I need to an UPDATE or INSERT.
Since I'd be inserting 3 rows into table TL2 (for a particular parent ID with different types), the first SELECT (on TL2) works and then I'm able to do an INSERT into TL2. The transaction is still alive. Now, I try to do a SELECT on table TL2 to see if a record exists for this type and this is when I get the exception "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
My guess is that I have a LOCK on the table TL2 (from the first SELECT), which seems to be causing the problem.
Note: The INSERTs and UPDATEs are done by executing stored procs. For the SELECTS, I'm using a different connection (from the one which the transaction is using) and close it after the SELECT is executed.
Okay all this used to be fine on another machine it has jsut been moved. It also workse fine on the original machine which is still up. I go to the website and try to login and get that error message. Hi, I am running a stored procedure that collects some records from two tables do some calculations with those records and insert those calculation result in a temp. table. I am calling this stored procedure in my aspx page and then later select all the records from temp table and show it in a table. When I run this application on browser it give me Timeout expired error but whn I execute the stored procedure it runs properly but takes around 3:10 mins to execute in query analyzer. I did some google work and based on that I specified CommandTimeout = 300 for SP and Connection timeout=400 in web.config. But still it didnt worked. Sometimes it runs properly but sometimes its not. Guys, I am trying to attach a database object to the App_Data directory I got thie error Error: Timeout expired. Then I click the SQL Database. This is where I got the error. What should I do? Please help
When I run my web app on my dev machine it works perfect. When I precomile it to my web deployment project and then copy the debug files to my web server I get this problem when trying to login (obviously it's using ASPNETDB.mdf). Any ideas?

I am getting the following error when running SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor on a test database of 300Gb aprox. After a long wait we got the following error:
Database Server,"PreUpgrade","Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.","OLDSYSTEMTABLES",
After that error we got several similar errors of "timeout expired" pointing to FTCATALOGNAMERESTRICTION, and others.
I found the same problem reported in other forums and recommended to run the UA database per database, but we are running the Upgrade Advisor against only one database in periods of low activity.
We cannot advance the upgrade to SQL Server 2005 on other databases due to this error. I would appreciate some clues or suggestions.
I've 10 Production Servers, which is rebooted every month by NT guys, The MS SQL Server Services & MS SQL Agent starts automatically when the Windows 2000 Advanced Server starts, I would like to create that when the MS SQL Server starts it pages me that Services started successfully, or the other way is to see the Windows Event viewer error logs to see if there is any SQL Server errors at NT server startup so that it would page me Problem starting MS SQL Server.
Would anyone please help me with this Is there any startup procedure I could generate every time MS SQL Server is started. How could I scan NT error logs to see the error logs for MS SQL Server and send the page.
