Under sql 2000 I could connect to a server as a speciifc sql user. How can I emulate that under sql 2005 Query Editor. (It doesn't appear to let me define the user to log in as.)

I have versions of sp_hexadecimal and sp_help_revlogin I used with SQL 2000 to transfer logins. Will they work with SQL 2005 as-is? Might I need updated versions?

View 4 Replies View Relatedok, first, I know... I forgot to run a backup of the master database, and I forgot to run a script to caputure logins. Not that that is out of the way... I need to recreate the logins under the Securities tab below the databases. All the company databases have the user names and passwords assigned to them, but they are not able to login, because they are not able to authenticate to the SQL server first.
Is there a script that someone has that will copy the company database security info for the users and recreate them in the SQL security tab?
I know that I can rebuild them manually, but I need to delete them first in the application software, then delete them from the databases, and then recreate them in the application software... and as simple as that sounds... it is a slow moving process.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In Query Editor I type statements like this:
"select * from ...."
Does Query Editor support a "macro" facility where I could, via keystorke, uppercase all t-sql keywords? (so it would look like SELECT * FROM...)

Not exactly a TSQL question. Query Editor in Management Studio keeps reformatting my sql code every time I hit save, making the code much harder to read. Is there a way to preserve line breaks and indentation in the SQL when creating a view? Thanks.

In query editor I displayed a single row from a table. The row is so long that I need to scroll horizontally back and forth to check out it's fields. Using t-sql (or otherwise) can I display the row like this: (vertically)
Field Name 1: < data value 1>
Field Name 2: < data value 2>
Field Name 3: < data value 3>
Field Name 4: < data value 4>
etc.

I would move a Database to another server. I try to use DTS but I have problems with this process because DB have big tables, I think. I try to use DETACH and ATTACH procedures but logins doesn't export. And more, in new server there are already logins from another DBs.
What's the best way to solve this problem?

I am a systems analyst and work with an app that runs against 2 SQL Server DBs. Though I have some familiarity with SQL Server and SQL, I am not a DBA.
The app executable is tied to a Windows service.
When we install the app, we run a process that builds 2 dbs to include:
Tables, indexes, stored procedures, views and user accounts.
SQL Server is set up for mixed mode authentication.
Normally, the dbs run off the local db user accounts which are tied to local logins with the same names.
We have a client that wants to remove our standard logins so that they can run on only a Windows login.
I know I should be able to tie the db users to a Windows login.
And I can do the same for the service.
But I am at a loss as to how to get this done.
How do you associate db users with a Windows login?
When I have tried sp_change_users_login I get an error that the Windows login does not exist. (Though I have added the Windows account to the DB.)

Hi! This is what happened to me and my colleagues.We are using SQL 2005. When we were building a view from a table, thefield we selected was not what came out in the output.Let's say you have 2 specific fields in the table, the second one ofthem begins with the letter "L". While your mouse focus is still on thefirst field, and you type "L", the focus will jump to the second field.But now if you left-click it (or press space bar) trying to select it,in the output panel, you will get the first field.I hope I get myself understood. Anyone of you happened to experiencethe same thing? And what's the explanation for this? The thing is itdidn't happen with SQL 2000. And we are suspecting this to be a bug.

Culd find CD. We decided to load SQl Server Manager sudio express from a sql 2005 CD. THe problem is that wen running queries with it, it puts some strange characters in the output. They arenon-printable characters so you don't see them
when you edit them in notepad. I have an editor that allows you to edit different
modes. I looked at the file in hex mode and found the characters there at the beginning of the first record. I just want the results in the result pane of the query to save as a regular ASCII text file comma delimited. THis same script was used successfully

I'm selecting the last latitude & longitude input from my database to put into the Google maps javascript function.
This is how I retrieve the longitude:

I wish to input the latitude & longitude into the JAVASCRIPT function (contained in the HTML head before the ASP) something like this:

However, lat & long do not contain the retrieved result but rather a useless System.something string.

I have a query which used to run fine on a rubbish SQL 2000 box in about a minute, but with SQL 2005 (SP2) it never finishes, even when left overnight. No errors in the logs or anything. It is the same database which was backed up from SQL 2000 and restored into 2005. Does anybody have any ideas?

I just upgraded my SQL 2000 server to SQL2005. I forked out all that money, and now it takes 4~5 seconds for a webpage to load. You can see for yourself. It's pathetic. When I ran SQL2000, i was getting instant results on any webpage. I can't find any tool to optimize the tables or databases. And when I used caused SQL Server to use 100% cpu and 500+MB of ram. I can't have this.Can anyone give me some tips as to why SQL 2005 is so slow?

currently due to buisness requirements we need to have sql2005 x64 bit enterprise edition, please let me know how do i do the upgrade or change.
is it possible to retain all our custom settings in the standard edition after changing to enterprise edition.

After installing sql2005 sp2 a simple select query to a linked server reports the following error message:
Msg 0, Level 11, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.Msg 0, Level 20, State 0, Line 0A severe error occurred on the current command. The results, if any, should be discarded.
Before installing SP2 we used sql2005 without any service packs, the linked server worked fine.
The linked server is a Visual FoxPro database.
After uninstalling and installing the 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro 9.0' the issue stil remains.
I am unable to install 32-bit SQL Server Integration Services on the server due to something that was left behind by the 64-bit version.
I've uninstalled SQL Server 2005 64-bit and when I try to install the 32-bit version of Integration Services, I get this error: "Failed to install and configure assemblies C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90DTSTasksMicrosoft.SqlServer.MSMQTask.dll in the COM+ catalog. Error: -2146233087 Error message: Unknown error 0x80131501 Error descrition: FATAL: Could not find component 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Task.MessageQueueTask.ServCompMQTask' we just installed."
I can't seem to figure out how to resolve this problem with the COM+ and I can't remember if Integration Services is required.

I have a vb program that include a dts package that has been saved to vb with sql2000 dts wizard and works very good.
Now that I upgrade my website to sql2005, this vb dts package doesn't work.

I have some production boxes on Win 2000 32-bits OS and some production servers have been upgraded to Win2003 64-bit OS runing SQL Server 2005. There are also a number of Win2003 32-bit OS running SQL 2005.
The issue is that when linking the 64-bit production servers to the 32-bit boxes running SQL 2005 / Win 2003 OS, the linking seems to succeed, but I am unable to see a number of entries in sys.objects. Typically, these objects are User Stored Procedures.
Moreover, the linking seemed to have worked, but data extraction does not take place between the servers. However, there are no errors. The objects (user stored procs) exist on the 64-bit side, but linking does not actually happen.
Microsoft KB has addressed this in SQL 2000 case in this KB article, but has not suggested a solution for SQL 2005.
Any ideas? Has anyone else encountered this?

I'm wondering if there's a better SQL Editor than MS Query Analyzer on the market? I like a lot of the functionality provided by QA but want extra stuff like you get in VB6: intelli-sense (sytanx prompting), auto-complete (CTRL+Space provides list of sp's and tables, etc.) plus any other time saving features.
I've tried a few products but nothing quite hits the mark. Is there a program you use and recommend I trial?

If possible, how is the editor being started?
As of my current knowledge, I am only able to start the XML Editor by clicking on the content of a XML data type column within the sql query result pane.

When i run this procedure in the query analyzer window i get the desired data which has to be imported to an MDB. After typing the above statements and when i
click the button preview i can see the data. But when i click the
Columns.... i dont see anything there. I am unable to see any columns there.
This is getting to my nerves because, when i use OLE DB as Destination i am
unable to map the columns and i get an error.
I dont know how to solve this problem. cannot we map columns in temp tables .... or wat is it ??
