Sqlhelper Class Failed To Convert Sql Parameter To A String Error
Oct 17, 2007
I'm getting this error and I'm not really sure what is wrong. I'm using the sqlhelper class which was writen by microsoft, so I figure the code is right.
Here is code of me passing in the strings. Yes I tried puttinga .ToString() on the end of the sqlparameters.
public class LoginSelectData : DataAccessBase
{
private EndUser _enduser;
public LoginSelectData()
{
StoredProcedureName = StoredProcedure.Name.VERIFYUSER.ToString();
}public DataSet Get()
{
DataSet ds;LoginSelectDataParameters _loginselectedataParameters = new LoginSelectDataParameters(this.Enduser);
DataBaseHelper dbhelper = new DataBaseHelper(StoredProcedureName);
ds = dbhelper.Run(base.ConnectionString, _loginselectedataParameters.Parameters);
return ds;
}public EndUser Enduser
{
get { return _enduser; }
set { _enduser = value; }
}
}
public class LoginSelectDataParameters
{
private EndUser _enduser;
private SqlParameter[] _parameters;public LoginSelectDataParameters(EndUser userinfo)
{
this.Enduser = userinfo;
Build();
}
private void Build()
{
SqlParameter[] parameters =
{new SqlParameter("@username",this.Enduser.Username),
new SqlParameter("@password",this.Enduser.Password)
};
Parameters = parameters;
}public SqlParameter[] Parameters
{
get { return _parameters;
set { _parameters = value; }
}
public EndUser Enduser
{
get { return _enduser; }
set { _enduser = value; }
}
Hi, i have some problems passing a guid parameter to a stored procedure; the code is below and the error i get is; Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Guid conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["LocalSqlServer"].ConnectionString); cmd = new SqlCommand("spInsKeyswap_history", conn); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; conn.Open();
MembershipUser mu = Membership.GetUser(User.Identity.Name); guid gdUserID = mu.ProviderUserKey;
Hi all,I have setup my database that have 3 columns:1. Primary Key2. UserId (UniqueIdentifier, Guid I guess) - I set it up so I can insert the value from the Membership table (UserId) for some relationship.3. Another Foreign key with just an int. I tried to build a DAL, ran a test and received this error: "Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Guid." Before I setup my UserId to be UniqueIdentifier and let it be just an Int, I don't have any problem retrieving data. Here is the SELECT query that I built with the DataSet:SELECT aspnet_Users.UserId, t_music.MUSIC_TITLEFROM t_user_viewedJOIN aspnet_Users ON aspnet_Users.UserId = t_user_viewed.UserId JOIN t_music ON t_music.MUSIC_PK = t_user_viewed.MUSIC_PK_FKWHERE aspnet_Users.UserId = @UserId Any help would be greatly appreciated,Kenny.
i am trying to save data from unbound datagridview but i get the error " format exception unhandled- failed to convert parameter value to a int32" the following is my code:
Private Sub btnPlace_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnPlace.Click ' Modify the following code to correctly connect to your SQL Server. Dim Connection As New SqlConnection("Server=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=Store Management System;Integrated Security=SSPI ")
Hi I am having this problem. I have created a stored proc that uses dynamic sql. Now this works fine when I use it in Query Analyzer.
Now when I try to use this in Reporting services it gives me the error: ' Failed to generate fields for the query Check the query syntax or click refresh on query toolbar. Failed to convert parameter value from a string to a datetime '
set @strSQL = 'SELECT * FROM v_DetailedAuditsIssued WHERE '
if @param1 <> ''
Begin
set @strSQL = @strSQL + 'strRegion = ' + @param1 + ' AND '
End
if @param2 <> ''
Begin
set @strSQL = @strSQL + ' strTaxTypeCode = ' + @param2 + ' AND '
End
if @param3 <> ''
Begin
set @strSQL = @strSQL + ' strAuditType = ' + @param3 + ' AND '
End
set @strSQL = @strSQL + ' (dtmIssuedDate BETWEEN '''
+ CONVERT(nvarchar(30), @param4, 101) + ''' AND '''
+ CONVERT(nvarchar(30),@param5, 101) + ''')'
exec (@strSQ
end -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- </quote>
When I run
rptDetailedAuditsIssued '','','','1/1/2000','1/1/2001'in query editor it runs fine. But gives me that error every time I run it in SSRS. I think I got this problem but in earlier cases I used to set the param values to null in Repservices and it worked but its not working this time. This time it stops complaining but does generate any fields.
But when I am trying to run it as stored procedure as follow abc and I assign the same value for the parameter in Define Query Parameter dialog box. it gives following error.
" an error occured while executing the query. Failed to convert parameter value from string to guid.
Additiona Information :
failed to convert parameter value from a string to a guid.(system.data) "
i had writen a stored procedure for inserting vlaues frma form into sql but iam getting this error can any pls help me Failed to convert parameter value from a String to a Int32 my stored procedureALTER PROCEDURE sp_addcustomer

I'm obviously connecting and executing the package correct, but I can't track down this error. The installation includes dtspkg.dll, dtspkg.rll, dtspump.dll, dtspump.rll, which are all registered. The username and password are hard code set in the package object before I execute it, so security should be the same.
Any suggestions on how to solve or track down this problem?
I am running SQL Service Migration Assistant for Access 6.0 and I am getting the following error when I attempt 'Refresh from database':

I want to convert a string into an interger so that my parameter can get one value, and have a seperate matrix list the value before the value selected.
My parameter is year. The user picks the year. And i want the crashcounts for the year displayed in the matrix. Then i have another matrix with a dataset similiar. I want this seperate Matrix/Dataset to display the previous year.
SO if the user selects 2004 from the dropdown. 2004 is displayed in the first matrix, and 2003 is displayed in the second matrix. The year attribute is in string format, and i cant change it in the cube. So i was told it could be converted in reporting services. with this
I had just installed SQL 2005 dev on my laptop and got an error message when I tried to create a package using the BI IDE. I received the same error using VS2005 IDE. But the project was created regardless without any packages. When I tried to create a new package in the project, I received the same error again, but with an option to view the error details.
Following is the text of the error details:

Hi,I'm new at asp .net and am having a problem. On a linkbutton click event, I want to insert into my db a row of data which includes two parameters. Param1 is the id of the logged in user, and Param2 is <%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, 'UserId')%> which is the username of a user given through a datalist.When I execute the query: "insert into aspnet_friendship (userId, buddyId) values (@Param1, @Param2)"I get the error: Conversion failed when converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier.I am trying to insert these into my table aspnet_friendship into the columns userId and buddyId which are both uniqueidentifier fields. I tested the query using the same values (@Param1, @Param1) and (@Param2, @Param2) and found out that the problem is with Param2 because when I use Param1 the insert works perfectly. The value passed by Param2 is supposed to be the id of a user which I get from the datalist which selects * from aspnet_Users, so that <%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, 'UserId')%> should also be an Id like Param1 is. Since both params are in the form of .toString(), I don't understand why one works but the other doesn't.As you can see in the code below, both of these parameters are dimmed as strings, so I don't understand why Param2 doesn't work. Can anyone please help? Protected Sub LinkButton1_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection MyConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|ASPNETDB.MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True") Dim MyCommand2 As SqlCommand Dim CurrentUser As String CurrentUser = Membership.GetUser.ProviderUserKey.ToString() Dim add As String add = "<%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, 'UserId')%>".ToString() Session("username") = User.Identity.Name Dim InsertCmd As String = "insert into aspnet_friendship (userId, buddyId) values (@Param1, @Param2)" MyCommand2 = New SqlCommand(InsertCmd, MyConnection) MyCommand2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Param1", CurrentUser) MyCommand2.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Param2", add) MyCommand2.Connection.Open() MyCommand2.ExecuteNonQuery() MyCommand2.Connection.Close() End Sub Thank you.

I've imported a CSV file into a table in SQL Server 2012. It's a large file, 140,000+ rows, so I couldn't covert it to Excel first to preserve the date format due to Excel's row limit. In the CSV file, there were 3 column with date data in "31-Aug-09" format, and the import automatically transformed these in "31AUG09" format (varchar(50)) in SQL Server. Now I need to convert these 3 columns from varchar to datetime so I could work with them in date format.
Dear Experts,Ok, I hate to ask such a seemingly dumb question, but I'vealready spent far too much time on this. More that Iwould care to admit.In Sql server, how do I simply change a character into a number??????In Oracle, it is:select to_number(20.55)from dualTO_NUMBER(20.55)----------------20.55And we are on with our lives.In sql server, using the Northwinds database:SELECTr.regionid,STR(r.regionid,7,2) as a_string,CONVERT(numeric, STR(r.regionid,7,2)) as a_number,cast ( STR(r.regionid) as int ) as cast_to_numberFROM REGION R1 1.00112 2.00223 3.00334 4.0044SELECTr.regionid,STR(r.regionid,7,2) as a_string,CONVERT(numeric, STR(r.regionid,7,2) ) as a_number,cast (STR(r.regionid,7,2) as numeric ) as cast_to_numberFROM REGION R1 1.00112 2.00223 3.00334 4.0044Str converts from number to string in one motion.Isn't there a simple function in Sql Server to convertfrom string to number?What is the secret?Thanks
Hai Guys, I have a doubt Regarding SqlDataReader i can able to create object to Sqlconnection,Sqlcomand etc... but i am unable to create object for SqlDataReader ? Logically i understand that SqldataReader a way of reading a forward-only stream of rows from a SQL Server database. I have been searching high and low for days and I am perplexed and appalled at the lack of information regarding what can not be an isolated incident.
We are trying to get an Analysis Services 2005 to process on a x64 server. We have both versions of the Oracle client installed and .ora file in both places. I have seen a couple of posts regarding this issue, but they are 2 years old and MS was supposed to have resolved the 'parentheses' issue long ago.
The test connection succeeds, and I can explore the data in the datasource view, but I cannot process the cube. All I get is the "OLE DB error: OLE DB or ODBC error: Class not registered"
Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise x64 Editon Service Pack 2
Installed Oracle Client 10g and ODAC home
I tried a few things that were suggested in posts, but nothing has worked. I tried the cmd line starting SSMS from progra~2 instead of (x86). I tried renaming the directory with no parentheses. This is the second time we've tried to get it to work in 2 years. We'll probably give up again and stay with x86, um, because it works without all these silly mickey-mouse tricks. Most of our relational DBs are ORACLE so this is a showstopper for us as far as trying to go x64.
Sorry for the attitude, but I'm really frustrated!
If anyone can tell me a way to resolve this (or that it can't be resolved), I'd really appreciate it!
