All,
I have installed sqlserver 2005 using the standard msdn universal installation discs on my laptop running vista business.
The mssqlserver service will not start automatically as the setup configures it
and I cannot start the service manually because I get the 'Access Denied' error message
I am logged on the the computer with adminstration privileges
Thank for all help received in advance,
Dave.....
Message logged in the SQL Server is
Failed to report the current event. Operating
system error = 31(A device attached to the system is not functioning.).
The OS has been Shutdown and Restarted again but I am not able to start the SQL Server thereafter.
Kindly Suggest
Hi,
I have a generally well working silent installer of SQL Server sp1, that installs a named of SQL Express then runs some create database scripts on it.
I have a customer for whom this fails. It appears that the SQL server service does not start. When I tell the client (non-computer literate!) to start it manually through Admin Tools>Service, a message appears saying "Access to the path denied", and seemingly doesn't specify the path of the denial.
Has anyone encountered this, or is anyone able to hazard a guess as to the cause of this issue.
Many thanks,
Chris
I'm having a 3.0 GHz machine with 512MB Ram. however when i tried to run sql server 2005. this is the result of the System Configuration Check

HOpefully somebody out there will help me...or is this problem only appearing in sql server 2005 and would it be a better decision to install SQL server 2000...or if someone can help me rectify this problem i'll be really thankful.
hi all
i'm using a domain accout to setup a sql 2005 cluster in a win2003 cluster.when the installation ended,the SqlServerAgent service can't be started.the event in event viewer
is "SQLServerAgent could not be started (reason: Unable to connect to server "(local)"; LServerAgent
cannot start). " (event id 103 ,source sqlserveragent).I try to use local system and network service account to start it,but it's all the same.
And i found i can connect to the sql cluster vitrual ip 10.73.2.224,but can't connect to the node A.So i enable all the network protocols for the instance MSSQLSERVER,and also enable every ip in the TCP/IP protocol,then restart the sqlserver service,but it still doesn't work.
Any advise?Thanks a lot.
I tried to apply the SP2 on a newly installed SQL Server 2005 Developer edition. The installation failed and the MSSQLSERVER service does not start. I work on 32 bits Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition SP1 with all the patches up to date. I downloaded SQL Server 2005 SP2 on March 15, 2007.

Hi:
I am getting access denied error "cannot connect to server" while trying to connect Integration Services. I am trying to connect from my laptop to the SQLSERVER database server.
I followed the document "Connecting to a Remove Intergration Services Server" , doc id: aa337083.
But I can connect to IS if I log remotely to the server.
Any thoughts on this ?
Thanks

SQL Server could not spawn the FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
I don't recall assigning any sql specific certificates. The reason I'm trying to run this as a network user is because an application on a remote windows server requires it.
After starting the service back running as local system as it was before, I went into the
SQL Server Management Studio Express and edited the properties for this new network user I wish to run the service as. I gave him full access including checking all grants in securables.
I now see a bit of a difference in the event logs with these errors.
EventID: 17058
initerrlog: Could not open the log file 'c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL1MSSQLLOGERRORLOG.' Operating system error =5(Access is denied).
I saw a notification when changing the sql server service's logon that the new network user has been granted the log on locally right.
The second and last new error is
EventID: 17053
UpdateUptimeRegKey: Operating system error 5(Access is denied.) encountered.
Hi,
I have SQL Server 2005 installed and functioning (it does everything I've asked it to do locally). I also have the Express and Standard Editions installed on a computer running WinXPPro SP2 with all the WinUpdates applied. I also have VS2005 installed on this computer. I've done some development work on this computer, using VS2005 to create a SQLDB, connect to it, add data, etc. This is all okay.
The problem is I cannot connect to the SQL Server from the client computer. I installed the client tools on this XP Pro box along with all the WinUpdates. Here's what I can do...
I can ping the SQL Server by name (the name gets resolved).
I can copy files between the two computers using Explorer.
I enabled "Allow remote connections to this server" in the Server Properties / Connections page.
I did not change the default port of 1433.
The TCP/IP protocal is enabled in the Configuration Manager.
The Surface Area has been configured to allow local and remote connections using TCP/IP and named pipes.
SQLBrowser surface is running as is the MSSQLSERVER service.
So what's going on? I am new to SQL Server to it may be something very simple / obvious.
Thanks for your help,
Scott

Hi,
I was unable to start SQL Browser Services (time out) after installing SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. The configuration of the server is
1. Win 2003 R2
2. Sql Server 2000 SP4
3. Sql Server 2005
Anybody has encountered this before? Any advice will be good.
Thanks!!
When I try to give myself administrative rights SQL presents me with the following error message:
TITLE: .Net SqlClient Data Provider------------------------------An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. This isn't just only a problem with the administrative rights. This happens in many different places such as when I try and add a new data source in VB Express 2005 it gives approximately the same error message.
My MSSQLSERVER service is running nicely but my SQLSERVER isn't and on top of that I can't get it to start!
If anybody can help me out here I would really grateful.
Thanks.

OK. I fixed that with the help of another thread that was similar except now this message is coming to haunt me:
TITLE: System.Data------------------------------Instance failure.------------------------------BUTTONS:OK------------------------------
I'm purely guessing this is related my SQLSERVER service not running but that is purely a guess. Getting back to the problem I have no clue how to fix it!
Please help!

What can I do solve the problem?
My SQL Server and MSDE, running under Windows XP, has been operating fault free since a year. Suddenly I cannot connect with the error "SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied". I cannot find anything abnormal in the Client nor the SQL server.
The only changes in my PC are done when installing the updates and the problem started after I installed Service Pack 2. Is this just a coincident or could there be some relation with the new Security centre in Service pack 2.
I have compared with the same set up in another PC without Service Pack 2 and there everything works fine.
Any suggestions please?
I removed MDS web UI which is working before and recreated. I enabled Window Authentication and Disabled Anonymous Authentication in IIS Authentication. I am getting Access denied when I view MDS web Site.

Looks like I need some additional adjustment on the authentication. But I do not know where and how.
I try to change the webservice identity but after changing the user identity of the application pool in iis ( I think this is the only way to change webservice identity) I got the error message service unavailable in IIS. With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.
I tryed to add
Code Snippet<identity impersonate="true" />
to the web config and I get the same Error on the webserver account...
It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...
Hi ,
I have just downloaded an evaluation version of SQL server from the microsoft website and installed it in my PC.
Now I want to create file data source.
I followed these steps:
-From the control panel, ODBC datasource admin
-click the DSN tab
-click the add button
-select the sql server driver, enter the data source file name
-enter "local" in the server text box as I installed the sql server in my standalone PC.
-click next
After that I had this error.
"Connection failed. SQL server does not exist or access denied."
But The sql server service is running.
Can anyone help me where did my configuration go wrong??
Thanks...

Had some big problems with my SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 during the last maintenance running on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise ( upgraded from Standard). I'm getting the following error,
"SQL Server blocked access to procedure 'dbo.sp_sqlagent_has_server_access' of component 'Agent XPs' because this component is turned off as part of the security configuration for this server. A system administrator can enable the use of 'Agent XPs' by using sp_configure. For more information about enabling 'Agent XPs', see "Surface Area Configuration" in SQL Server Books Online."
I did a google search and found others with the problem but the resolution isn't working for me. I ran the following commands, heck I ran them multiple times. No errors come back running these commands. But the same error keeps happening, I even restart the service and then the server again.
sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE;
GO
sp_configure 'Agent XPs', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO
The msdb got too big for the disk it was on. I had maintenance plans to clear out the all of histories but I didn't think of the mail items. When I finally saw this problem I tried clearing them out using the stored procedures only with it finally failing because the transaction log got full. Since we didn't have a lot of jobs scheduled I decided to just recreate the msdb. So I scheduled a maintenance window, download SQL Server Service Pack 3.
my steps are as follows:
->diff backup of msdb
->stopped the service and started it again with: NET START MSSQLSERVER /T3608
->detached msdb with: SQLCMD -E -SP-SRVR-SQL-01 -dmaster -Q"EXEC sp_detach_db msdb"
->moved it off the drive
->restarted the service without any startup flags
->recreated msdb with: SQLCMD -E -SP-SRVR-SQL-01 -i"D:Microsoft SQL ->ServerMSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLInstallinstmsdb.sql" -o"D:Microsoft SQL ServerMSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLInstallinstmsdb62715.out"
I looked at the log file and there were no actual error messages so I applied service pack 3 and restarted server after it installed, was actually prompted to restart. In my tests I was never prompted to restart the server.Now I never started the agent service after recreating the msdb database since I knew it wasn't on the same version. I just went directly to the latest SP. Our applications are running fine but now I cant do scheduled backups.
Hi!
I understand that this topic is one of the most discussed topics ever. However i could not find the relevant information after going through (almost) all the posts so far. Hence this post. I am getting the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied' error when I am trying to access SQL Server from a WINDOWS SERVICE. SQL Server and the Windows service are running on two different machines. (When they are on the same machine, it works). All the solutions I found so far are related to web apps. What should I do in the case of a windows service? My connection string uses SQL server authentication. (I tried with windows authentication. Its not working either.). Under what login does windows services run and how can I add it to valid SQL server logins?
MSSQLSERVER won't restart. I can't uninstall SS7, either, because it says I have MSSEARCH running, which Task Manager can't kill (access denied, even to me the administrator). Tried changing the registry keys for MSSQL to MSSQL_old and then the install goes forward but fails at the end because some of the TEMPDB files cannot be activated. This trick worked on my Win98SE once, for the same problem. I ignorantly deleted IE4 from the server's C:drive because I needed more room to reinstall. I tried reinstalling the SS7 "components" (no apparent problem, except it detects that I have now installed IE5.5)(IE5.5 automatically installs to C:Program FilesMicrosoft or thereabouts, not C: where IE4 was, by the way). I was up to SP2 on SS7, and SP6 on NT4. The name of the server hasn't changed, but the name of the c:drive is new. Why would a new install care? I ran scandisk inbetween reboots as a caution, but the install always fails. Should I be choosing the default "allow 5 connections" rather than "5 per computer licenses"? TIA, Jeb
View 2 Replies View RelatedHelp! I just took over for a new company and after logging in to one of the servers I tried to click on the Symantec Backup Exec on the desktop. It failed and said that none of the services are started, looking in my services I can not get any of the services related to sql to start. In the bottom right hand corner in the system tray I have a red dot on the sql server and it is stopped. All the event logs say that: During redoing of a logged operation in database 'master', an error occurred at log record ID (199:200:5). Typically, the specific failure is previously logged as an error in the Windows Event Log service. Restore the database from a full backup, or repair the database.
Thanks
I installed a copy of SQL server 2005 on a Win 2003 machine. I connected remotely from another machine and started Sql Server Configuration manager. The MSSQLServer is stopped. So, I click to start and it failed. The error it gave me was that it time out. I am new to SQL 2005 and I thought the next step after installing was to configure. Can anyone help me please.

Hi, when I am using the Report Manger to open a report, I am unable to acess the Database from my .Net application and vice versa - error report from MS Visual Web developer - "Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".
I've lost access to SSIS and BIDS.
I'm a SQL 2005 developer DBA with a 1.5 years experience with SQL Server 2005. It has been a while since I needed to use SSIS. I used it with no problems earlier this year when I was managing the team conversion to SQL Server 2005. Now it no longer appears on my START > Programs > SQL Server 2005 menus. I had to reinstall SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 months ago and must have lost it then some how.
How do I get access to BIDS and SSIS again?

Now, I checked and verified that my backup version of SQL Server is the same as the version installed on the computer I'm restoring too.
I have SQL Server on a production machine that I backed up and want to test a full restore on a dev machine to make sure it will work when I need it to.
Now that I've run the restore command on my tape backup and go to restart the SQL server service I receive:
Configuration block version 0 is not a valid version number. SQL Server is exiting. Restore the master database or reinstall.
I'm afraid I don't understand why this is happening. If the builds are the same, then shouldn't restoring the MASTER database have worked normally and I'd be able to restart the service now?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
