Defaulting Start And End Dates To The Previous Month.

I have two parameters in my report (StartDate and EndDate). I want to default these parameters to the previous month.

For example... If today is 5/17/2007, I want StartDate to be 4/1/2007 and EndDate to be 4/30/2007. If today would be January 30th 2007, I would want StartDate to be 12/1/2006 and EndDate to be 12/31/2006.

How can I do this?

Let's say the first row returned has StartDate = 1/1/2014 and EndDate is 1/2/2014. The next row I want the StartDate to equal the previous row EndDate so it would be 1/2/2014 as StartDate. Reporting Services :: Displaying Previous Months On The Basis Of Start Date

I have a ssrs report which has a parameter start date.i have made 12 columns acc to client req which i cannot change:

jan|feb|mar|apr|may|jun|jul|aug|sep|oct|nov|dec

These columns are dynamic acc to start date for which i have used this exp for first cell:

=monthname(month(Parameters!Startdate.Value),true) and for next 11 cells accordingly.

These 12 columns are grouped quaterly which i have made statically again for clien req which i cannot change so they are grouped staticaly by me in report like:

q12015      |q2  2015     |q32015      |q42015
jan|feb|mar|apr|may|jun|jul|aug|sep|oct|nov|dec  

exp for quarterly is :

="Q" & DatePart(DateInterval.Quarter, Parameters!Startdate.Value) &  year(Parameters!Startdate.Value).

Now when i select my start date of months jan,apr,july and oct report work fine.... but when i select my start date months of feb,may,aug and nov then reportis something like: (lets say i choose feb)

feb|mar|apr|may|jun|jul|aug|sep|oct|nov|dec|jan.

What is happening is in q1 feb,mar and apr are coming and what i want in q1 is jan,feb and mar.

And in q4 nov ,dec and jan is coming and what is want in  q4 is oct,nov and dec.

So generally what is am asking is how to display jan in this condition in my first cell.same apllies for rest of months..

Similarly when i select my start date months of mar,june,sep,dec i want previous two months to be displayed.

SQL Server 2008 :: How To Default Start / End Date Parameters To First / Last Day Of Current Month

I have a SSRS report using 2008 R2. It prompts the user for the start and end dates. This all works. But now I want the start date parm to default to the first day of the current month and the end date parm to default to the last day of the current month.In the new query window in SQL Server Management Studio, I can run this chunk of code to get the first day of current month:

SELECT DATEADD(MONTH, DATEDIFF(MONTH, 0, GETDATE()), 0)

And this code to get the last day of current month:

SELECT DATEADD(DAY, -(DAY(DATEADD(MONTH, 1, GETDATE()))),
DATEADD(MONTH, 1, GETDATE()))

But I don't know how to do this in SSRS 2008. How can I make my start / end parms to get these values.

I am trying to use the custom code in the report but I don't think I am understanding how this is being used.

I have a function to get starting months for a report parameter.
The function is below:-

what i am trying to do here, and hopefully produce a sql string that would fill my dataset of dates and their representation.

In the dataset, I had put the following expression
=Code.GetStartingMonths()

However, I can't seem to get the parameter to display the dates. shows up as disabled in my report.

Am I doing something wrong here or is there a better way to doing this ?

Additionally, I was wondering whether there is a better SQL code that would achieve the same thing I am doing ?

I've tried using the date trunc function but I'm not sure what the best way to attack this is. My thoughts are I need to somehow select first day of every month + interval 'x days' (but I don't know the syntax).In other words, I want to see

where each month field has a 0 or 1, depending on if the person was enrolled that month.

I'm being asked to generate a table like this:

Is there some slam dunk way to do this without a bunch of If/Then statements?

The editor compressed all my space fields, so the column headers are off in some places.

Newbie question. I am using a query that pulls month-to-date data that has the following where clause:

WHERE (MONTH(datefield) = MONTH(GETDATE())) AND (YEAR(datefield) = YEAR(GETDATE()))

this works just fine but what I would like for it to do is give me the previous month of data if the if it's
the first day of the month and then any other day give me month to date. Is this possible?

But I am not able to get the previous Month? How can I do that I thought by putting -1 it would do that for me, but it doesn't.

I have a CheckDate field and I only what to retrieve dates that fall in the month previous to when the query is run. I'm assuming it will involve DATEADD or DATEPART, but I'm not sure how to do it since the end of the month day will vary from month to month.

For example, today is 04/09/2008 so I want to retrieve checks with a date between 03/01/2008 and 03/31/2008.

How To Return Records Based On Previous Month

I'm storing records that contain a date/time data type. I am needing two links on a reports page (asp), the first should return all records for the current month and the second link should return all records for the last three months (including current month). I have no idea how to just sort by month.

I'm also not sure what to include here in this post to help you answer my question. On the form that is submitted initially the text field is named "txtSubmitDate" and in the database it's stored in a field called "submitdate" and is 8 characters in length.

I've tried:
'SELECT TODAY'S MONTH
SqlJunk = "SELECT * FROM eom WHERE MONTH(submitdate) = MONTH(GETDATE())-1"

'SELECT TODAY'S MONTH and the last 2 months
SqlJunk2 = "SELECT * FROM eom WHERE MONTH(submitdate) = MONTH(GETDATE()) OR MONTH(submitdate) = MONTH(GETDATE())-1 OR MONTH(submitdate) = MONTH(GETDATE())-2 ORDER BY submitdate ASC"

These are not working because it can't handle the change in year (going from january 2005 back to december 2004, etc).

Any ideas?

Problem Query For Records For Previous Month

I'm working on project for school that involves building a query in a video store database. The query is suppose to pull the total number of movies rented the previous month. I can get it to work if I physically put in the dates. However, part of the requirements is to set it up so the date range is auto calculated. The following is the code I have

SELECT COUNT(RecordNumber) AS TotalRentalsForMonth FROM RentalHistory
WHERE TransactionDate BETWEEN (YEAR(getdate()), MONTH(getdate()), 1)
AND (YEAR(getdate()), MONTH(getdate())+1, 0)


I get the following error message when I try to run it:

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near ','.


Anyone have an idea where my mistake is within the date range

I have 12 month report and I need show volume and difference between current and prev month volume, what is the smart way to do this, do I need to put prev month value onto same row horizontally? I think should be some other smart way, I heard about LEAD function?

This what I think for now, It should be listed per ClientID also, in my example I have single ClientID for simplicity.

SQL Server 2012 :: Don't Start One Statement Until The Previous Is Finished

I am working with a stored procedure that needs to roll up a week number column once a week - columns are numbered 1-10, 1 being this week, 2 being last week and so forth

Once a week the 10th column is deleted, the 9th becomes 10, the 8th becomes the 9th and so forth and the 1st is calculated the week numbers are getting all screwed up - and we think it's because one statement starts before the one before it completes the statements go like this:

delete theTable where week_num=10;
update theTable set weeknum=10 where weeknum=9;
update theTable set weeknum=9 where weeknum=8;
and so forth

is that the reason? is there any way not to start one statement until the one before it finishes?
