I am writing an app in c#. I will be using the following code to get a number from the user. I had to make the variable a string to prevent any kind of conversion to be required.
string newID;
Console.WriteLine("Enter a new ID");
newID = Console.ReadLine();
Console.WriteLine("The new ID is {0}", newID);
Console.ReadLine();
The ID that this will be collecting will be stored in a SQL Server 2005 Express database. The field in the database is of the type int. Will there be a problem saving this number from the code above into the database? Will there be a problem b/c the datatypes don't match?

I am developing a smart device application using the .net compact framework 2.0. What is the best place to store the database Connection String in the smart device application.
I know that we can store the connection string in machine.config or web.config file if it isa web application. So is there something like that or what is the best place to store the connection string in the Smart Device Application.
Any help or suggestions regarding this would be greatly appreciated.
I am having a problem in a VB.NET application, i have a form that the user fills to store data in the database, the problem is that when i enter Arabic string, it gets stored in the database as question marks '??????' The database field type is nvarchar, anybody went across this problem?
I have taken a varchar of length 4000 and storing a string value at runtime. but it is doing an unusual behaviour. it stores 200 lenght of string and then discard the rest data ... :( how can i fix this?
I want to store the value of the Connection String in an Common table exisiting for the whole project and retrieve it for the whole package to Run. I want to know if there is a way of doing this.
I do not want to have a config file which is created trhough the package configuration.
In case of Parent package variable the Value of the variable needs to exist which again needs to execute the SQL Task which requires a connection string.
In case of Environment variabIe.I have very less knowledge about the environment variable . Even if we store it? how can we access it and change it in client place.
In case of SQL server . Can we store in an existing table. what is the configuration filter? what is the vlaue for it.
I do not want to execute any command line.............................
Hello there,I just want to ask if storing data in dbase is much better than storing it in the file system? Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?
I have a scenario where in I need to use a comma delimited string as input. And search the tables with each and every string in the comma delimited string.
We have some URLs within a bulk block of text some of which are very long. I need to identify rows where such urls exceed say 100 characters in length in amongst other text.So the rule would be return a record if within the string there is a string (without spaces) longer than 100 characters.
I have following query which return me SP/Views and Functions script using:
select DEFINITION FROM .SYS.SQL_MODULESNow, the result looks like Create proc create procedure create proc create view create function
I need its result as:
Alter Procedure Alter Procedure Alter Procedure Alter View Alter Function
I used following
select replace(replace(replace(DEFINITION,'CREATE PROCEDURE','Alter Procedure'), 'create proc','Alter Procedure'),'create view','Alter View') FROM .SYS.SQL_MODULESto but it is checking fixed space like create<space>proc, how can i check if there are two or more spaces in between create view or create proc or create function, it should replace as i want?
I am trying to insert a row into a table of Microsoft SQL Server 2000.
There are various columns.
[SNO] [numeric](3, 0) NOT NULL , [DATT] [char] (32) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL , [DATTA] [char] (3000) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL , [CODECS] [char] (32) COLLATE SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS NOT NULL ,
The [DATTA] column is causing a problem. Even if I am trying to put only 1700 character string into [DATTA], the java code throws the following exception:-
StaleConnecti A CONM7007I: Mapping the following SQLException, with ErrorCode 0 and SQLState 08S01, to a StaleConnectionException: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Connection reset
at com.microsoft.jdbc.base.BaseExceptions.createException(Unknown Source)
Why is it throwing an exception even though the sum-total of this row doesn't exceed 8000 characters?
I need to store a user ID of whoever made the last change to a record in a table. I have added a field with a default set to 'suser_sid()'.
Is it wise to store SID's in a database table if you are using NT authentication? My concerns are that if the user is deleted by the NT system administrator then I lose data integrety also if the database is backed up and restored onto a different machine with different users it won't work at all.
Hello to all, I have a problem with ms sql query. I hope that somebody can help me. i have a table "Relationships". There are two Fields (IDMember und RelationshipIDs) in this table. Query: Declare @IDM int; Declare @IDO int; Set @IDM = 3387, @IDO = 4567; select * from Relationship where (IDMember = @IDM) and ( cast(@ID0 as char(100)) in (select Relationship .[RelationshipIDs] from Relationship where IDMember = @IDM))
But I get nothing by this query. Can Someone tell me where is the problem? Thanks
Hello, I am tring to add a string my database. Info is added, but it is the name of the string, not the data contained within. What am I doing wrong? The text "Company" and "currentUserID" is showing up in my database, but I need the info contained within the string. All help is appreciated!

My requirement is that if the string in the column has any of the characters from 'ACDIPFJZ' , those characters have to be retained and the rest of the characters have to be removed.
I have a text field which has entries of variable length of the form:
"house:app.apx&resultid=1234,clientip" or "tost:app.apx&resultid=123,clientip" or "airplane:app.apx&resultid=123489,clientip"
I'm trying to pick out the numbers between resultid='...',clientip no matter what the rest of the string looks like. So in this example it would be the numbers:
1234 123 12389
the part of the string of the form resultid='...',clientip always stays the same except the length of the number can vary.
I'm a non-programmer and an SQL newbie. I'm trying to create a printer usage report using LogParser and SQL database. I managed to export data from the print server's event log into a table in an SQL2005 database.
There are 3 main columns in the table (PrintJob) - Server (the print server name), TimeWritten (timestamp of each print job), String (eventlog message containing all the info I need). My problem is I need to split the String column which is a varchar(255) delimited by | (pipe). Example:
2|Microsoft Word - รายารรับ.doc|Sukanlaya|HMb1_SD_LJ2420|IP_192.10.1.53|82720|1
The first value is the job number, which I don't need. The second value is the printed document name. The third value is the owner of the printed document. The fourth value is the printer name. The fifth value is the printer port, which I don't need. The sixth value is the size in bytes of the printed document, which I don't need. The seventh value is the number of page(s) printed.
How I can copy data in this table (PrintJob) into another table (PrinterUsage) and split the String column into 4 columns (Document, Owner, Printer, Pages) along with the Server and TimeWritten columns in the destination table?
In Excel, I would use combination of FIND(text_to_be_found, within_text, start_num) and MID(text, start_num, num_char). But CHARINDEX() in T-SQL only starts from the beginning of the string, right? I've been looking at some of the user-defind-function's and I can't find anything like Excel's FIND().
Or if anyone can think of a better "native" way to do this in T-SQL, I've be very grateful for the help or suggestion.
Hi, can someone help me with this problem. I have recently downloaded VWD and have been playing around with it a bit. I was windering how do I add an image file to a SQL database. I have used SQL in the past but I have never store an image in it. I can add text data and so forth, but I need some pointers into adding images to the sql database. I want to be able to store the images and then retrieve them to a GridView. I have the images in an image folder within the website, but I do not know how to input the reference or link to the images in an sql table. A quick example, say I have a table called Images, with the following info:imgID (int)imgDesc (varchar(max)imgFile (img)imgTitle (varchar(20)) To input this in sql I would write Insert Into Images (imgDesc,imgFile,imgTitle) Values ("Large fishy", "", "The Big Fish") what would I need to put for imgFile? I would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction.
Hi all! I am back with a new problem. I am designing a database in which the booking is on an hourly basis instead of daily basis. So I want my colums in a table to be like this: ================================ID(PK)Date(In this table I want date only)TimeSlot(in this table I want time only)CourtNo(facility which is to be booked)Booking ID(FK to booking table)================================
The thing is that SQL server donot have a date only format. I am totally stuck on this one, please help! The database which I created will be ideal if I can just store the date! Regards, Taimoor
Hi All,Does anybody know how i can store a paragraph with spaces, newline, empty lines in a sql server 2005 database table? What data type should i declare the table entry to take? I will also like to retrieve the data with what ever i would have stored it with.
My forms are taking user input, then HtmlEncoding them prior to being stored in the SQL DB. For some reason, SQL is storing quotes as and it is causing the HTML when decoded in the page to not be rendered properly.
Has anyone come across this issue before?
For example (without encoding for readability):
SQL should store the parsed string as: <a href="someurl" class="main">
but for some reason it's being stored as: <a href=someurl class=main>.
Does anyone have thoughts or know of resources that explain the pro's and con's of storing images in a database versus keeping the image in the file system and just storing the path to the image in the database?
Hello All! Can some one give SQL Statement on storing images from disk to the database columns. Once I store the image how do I test it out that the image is stored correctly? For example this is what I did I have a table called table1., field called name
insert into table1(name) values(C:123.bmp)
Is the above statement correct? will it store the file or not?
if it does store them then how do I view them?
Can some one please help me... Thanks in advance for your help Venkat
best way to store questionnaire data in a database.Since different questionnairs have different questions and formats i.e dropdown, radio, checkboxes etc building such a database model becomes highly complex.
I've read that if data schema is complex and higly variable it may be better to use an xml document and store that in a databse. However I dont quite understand how you store xml to a database. Do you simply store the entire structure in something like a nvarchar column or is there some other way to store xml to a database.
If you store the entire structure to the databse then how do you query the content to generate reports.
I use SQL 2K with an Access 2000 project as front end. I have four date fields in a table. The first one should contain a date (eg 20th of February), the second one a starting hour (eg 8:00h), the third one the finishing hour (eg 10:00h) and the fourth should calculate the difference between the second and third column. So I created four datetime fields. Storing a date in the first column is no problem, but storing only hours doesn't seem to do what I want. When I enter 8:00 from within the Access, it is stored 1/1/1900 8:00 in SQL Server. How can I make sure that the hours are saved with the date of the second column, so either as 8:00 without further information or as eg 20-2-2004 8:00?
