Storing Just The Time In Sqlserver 2000

Dec 20, 2004

hi,

i would like to store just the time part in sqlserver 2000. time part with default date which is 1899 - 12- 30 in my sql server. but i read some articles which mentioned default date as 1900 - 01 - 01. i am not sure which one but if i enter just the time part in my sql server and do the query i get 1899 -12-30 and (time part). anyway, i am just wondering whether it is possible to set the trigger or constraints to strip off the date part of entered value and replacing it with default is ok.

the reason is i need to some queries on time part only which is giving some problem now.

Storing SSIS Packages Within SQLServer; Pros/cons

Feb 26, 2008

hi all,
I was wondering if anyone knows of any pros/cons on storing SSIS (2005) packages within SQL Server 2005 SP2.
We're contemplating the migration/storage of a large number of packages, a minority of which designed in dts (SQLServer 2000) and using third party activx components.

thanks much for any feedback,

Problem Unicode Data 0x2300 In SQLServer 2000 SQLServer 2005 Express

Sep 20, 2006

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Thanks

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

Apr 18, 2008

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Thanks!!

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

Jun 14, 2006

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

Best Method For Storing A Time In A Database

May 22, 2008

Hi,I have a table which I need to store times in. What is the best way of doing this? The only way I can think of so far is to save the times as a datetime such as '1/1/1900 03:00 PM' then format the date as "hh:mm tt" so that the day isn't displayed. Is this the best method? Thanks,Curt.

Saving/Storing Time Only In Datetime

Mar 26, 2004

Hello all,

Perhaps someone out there could enlighten me on the issue of date/time (particularly time) storage.

I am trying to get the time component to be stored in a Datetime field. I can do a Date only as follows:

INSERT INTO Test ([DateTime])VALUES(Cast(convert(char(10),GETDATE(),102) as Datetime))

I attempted the following:

INSERT INTO Test ([DateTime])VALUES(Cast(convert(char(8),GETDATE(),108) as Datetime))

But I cannot get the time component without the default date 1/1/1900 component.

If any of you gurus out there can help me out it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Storing Time-series Data In SQL Server 2005

May 1, 2007

Hi all,

I'm wondering what is the best way to store time-series data in an SQL database?? I've done a bit of investigating on the rrdtool (round robin database tool) that is used in a lot of nix based solutions for monitoring network equipment. I have a need to collect performance data from servers and routers and then produces some nice graphs from that data. I'm just not sure who i should store that data without the database growing to some huge size.

Any suggestions?

Reconnecting Access 2000 Front End To New Instance Of SQLServer 2000

Jul 27, 2004

I recently had to reinstall a new instance of SQLServer 2000, but was unable to use the previous server name. As a result, my Access2000 front end is not happy with it's linked tables. I can't seem to find anyplace within Access to universally change the address of the SQLServer used as the back-end for all linked tables.

When I do try to access the linked tables through Access, I get an error, and the option to change the server location. When I try to type-in the new SQLServer location, there is an attempt to reconnect to SQLServer, but a whole lot of errors are generated, and none of the data is transferred into the Access table.

I really don't want to have to re-do my Access front end, so it seems it would be easiest to somehow reinstall SQLServer to have the same server location it used to. Is there a good way to completely erase all traces of SQLServer so that I can have better luck reinstalling it to the same location it used to be in? Just using the uninstall program from SQLServer doesn't seem to be cutting it.

Thanks!

Storing Staging Data As XML In SQL 2000.

Aug 25, 2005

Scenario:
We want to stage all data coming into our database from various
applications.  We have a generic control where all data goes
through to get to the database.

We want have the data staged in a 'staging database'.  My question
is, what would be the best way to store the staging database in the
database.

I'm thinking storing it as XML in a SQL column.  The reason for
this is because the data could change from application to
application.  It would be impossible to create a relational table
because maintenance would be a nightmare.

Has anyone ever done something like this.  Would you save the node names in another table in SQL?

Any help would be appreciated as I'm new to XML.

Thanks,

ScAndal

DTS 2000 Package Performance Issue On Sqlserver 2000

Sep 28, 2007

Hi guys,

I have a performance related question about the DTS package in sqlserver 2000 which i have developed
We have developed a DTS package which will migrate a view 'ATTRITION' from Sqlserver 2000 to an Oracle database. The design of the package is as follows
First step: It checks for the existance of the table 'ATTRITION' in oracle database, if table 'ATTRITION' is not there it will create a table called 'ATTRITION' in the oracle db.If the table 'ATTRITION' is already present in the oracle db,then the table is truncated.

Second step: The view 'ATTRITION' is migrated to Oracle table 'ATTRITION'.
For the migration, i have used a connection object which connects to sqlserver 2000 and for oracle connection i have used another connection object 'Microsoft ODBC driver for oracle' and i have joined both the connection objects with 'Transform data task' task which maps one to one from sqlserver 2000 where view 'ATTRITION' exists with oracle database where Table 'ATTRITION' exists.
Roughly i have around 65000 rows in 'ATTRITION' view of sqlserver 2000 which needs to be migrated. When im running the package on my system it takes around 4 minutes to migrate all the rows but when im running it on the server it takes a lot lot of time more than 1 hour.

The view definition im using has more than 10 tables joined together. But if its a problem of query used in the view, and if i run the view seperately it quickly displays the data hardly takes 1 minute. and even if i run the package on my local pc it doenst take much time. Now my confusion is why its taking soo much time on server. If i create a indexed view then will it solve my problem. Please suggest...
Thanks in advance

Which Is Better? Storing Data In The Database OR Storing It In The File System

Dec 29, 2006

Hello there,I just want to ask if storing data in dbase is much better than storing it in the file system? Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?
