Subquery Error With Group By

On sqlserver 2000 SP 4 or SP3 boxes I have the below query. It will fail with Server: Msg 8624, Level 16, State 3, Line 6. If I comment out the group by in the subquery it works. have researched and there seems to be an issue wih the group by in subquery. ANyone see or resolved this?

Some what of a SQL noobie here, I'm struggling with how to create the statement.
I have two tables,
Event
EventDates
it's a 0ne to many relationship each event can have several dates, problem is I want to get only one instance (distinct) of every event but I have to have it sorted by the date. So I have to inner join the two, I"ve done that with the following statement,

But how do I weed out the duplicate events while still maintaining the correct sort order? I wrapped that with a select disctinct, then did a select * from by table events where IDEvents in, but I lose my sort order.

I have a table that has Finance transactions in it. I want to find the last time a transaction was put in and the balance that was recorded for that last entry for each account.
The Table looks like this
CustomerCode, AccountID,BillDate,Balance

I am trying to write a query statement that can show me this.

Once I have this part working I actually need to make it a sub-query for more customer information from another table.

I have a user in SQL Server with a NT login of Mike
I changed his NT account to Mikel in User Manager
Now when I try to add Mikel, Im getting error 15401.
Do I need to delete NT login in SQL Server 'Mike' account first ?..before adding 'Mikel' ?
Can I go into the Master database and just change Mike login to Mikel ?

Hi i am a newbie in sql so any help would be appreciated. i have a serverlog table that initially had one server and different functions types, my sql query got a percentage of the execution times for the different functions and all worked well, however as soon as i put more servers in to the table i got the following error...

I was playing around with subqueries and noticed the following error message:
Server: Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.
This to me suggests that my subquery (a select for firstname field) returns values containing blank spaces or more than one non-blank string. I would appreciate if anyone has any suggestions on how I can overcome this problem.

I have some code that calls a stored procedure on SQL Server 2005 using the Microsoft JDBC driver 1.1. The code normally works however, every once in a while an exception is thrown:

Hi,
I am using .NET sqlBulkCopy to insert several rows at once into my sql table. Yesterday I created a simple trigger on this table to take the primary key of the inserted row and place into another table. Fairly straightforward I thought, but I keep getting this error when inserting 2 or more rows (works fine with one row):
"Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression. The statement has been terminated."
To test this, I changed the sqlBulkCopy into individual INSERT statements in a for each loop and then it works perfectly, so I know that it's definitely the sqlBulkCopy causing the problem, not the trigger itself. Here is my trigger code anyway:
alter trigger tg_InsertClaim on AuditItemfor insertas
declare @AuditItemID as intset @AuditItemID = (select i.AuditItemID from inserted i inner join dbo.AuditItem a ON i.AuditItemID = a.AuditItemID)

I am trying to add the results of both of these queries together:
The purpose of the first query is to find the number of nulls in the TimeZone column.
Query 1:
SELECT COUNT(*) - COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename
The purpose of the second query is to find results in the AAST, AST, etc timezones.
Query 2:
SELECT COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename
WHERE TimeZone NOT IN ('EST', 'MST', 'PST', 'CST')
Note: both queries produce a whole number with no decimals. Ran individually both queries produce accurate results. However, what I would like is one query which produced a single INT by adding both results together. For example, if Query 1 results to 5 and query 2 results to 10, I would like to see a single result of 15 as the output.
What I came up with (from research) is:
SELECT ((SELECT COUNT(*) - COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename) + (SELECT COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename
WHERE TimeZone NOT IN ('EST', 'MST', 'PST', 'CST'))
I get a msq 102, level 15, state 1 error.
I also tried
SELECT ((SELECT COUNT(*) - COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename) + (SELECT COUNT (TimeZone)
FROM tablename
WHERE TimeZone NOT IN ('EST', 'MST', 'PST', 'CST')) as IVR_HI_n_AK_results

I am getting the error in Line number 35 .. the inserts works fine... and if use * instead of the field name or use more than 1 field name i get this error
Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.

I have an SSRS 2012 table report with groups; each group is broken ie. one group for one page, and there are multiple groups in multiple pages.
'GroupName' column has multiple values - X,Y,Z,......
I need to group 'GroupName' with X,Y,Z,..... ie value X in page 1,value Y in page 2, value Z in page 3...
Now, I need to display another column (ABC) in this table report (outside the group column 'GroupName'); this outside column itself is another column header (not a group header) in the table (report) and it derives its name partly from the 'GroupName' values:
Example:
Value X for GroupName in page 1 will mean, in page 1, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-X Value Y for GroupName in page 2 will mean, in page 2, column Name of ABC column must be ABC-Y Value Z for GroupName in page 3 will mean, in page 3, column Name of
ABC column must be ABC-Z
ie the column name of ABC (Clm ABC) must be dynamic as per the GroupName values (X,Y,Z....)

I have been able to use First(ReportItems!GroupName.Value) in the Page Header to get GroupNames displayed in each page; I get X in page 1, Y in page 2, Z in page 3.....
However, when I use ReportItems (that refers to a group name) in the Report Body outside the group,
I get the following error:
Report item expressions can only refer to other report items within the same grouping scope or a containing grouping scope
I need to get the X, Y, Z ... in each page for the column ABC.
I have been able to use this - First(Fields!GroupName.Value); however, I get ABC-X, ABC-X, ABC-X in each of the pages for the ABC column, instead of ABC-X in page 1, ABC-Y in page 2, ABC-Z in page 3, ...

error msg:
Column 'dbo.domlog.lDate' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.
Please can you help.....
Also is their an easier way to write like = WUR, Elite, ruf instead me typing out the db name everytime?

I am working with parent child tables and want to populate the primary key on insert so that the user does not have to enter this for each record. Just out of curiosity, why would the query below error out with a syntax error near keyword group? The inside query runs fine. By the way, I know that this can be simplified by changing the projection in the inside query and moving the group by into it, but I'd like to understand why this version does not work.

Running visual studio 2005 on win XP with 2GB ram.
Reporting server Windows 2003, SQL 2005 Enterprise
I have a SSRS 2005 report that runs just fine when all fields are expanded. All the groups are there, and all is right with the world.
I now right click the detail line, edit group, choose visibility, select "visibility can be toggled by another report item", leaving "initial visibility" as "Visible" and again, the report runs in about 10 seconds and works fine.
I go back into the report and choose visibility and set the initial visibility to "hidden" and the report runs for a little longer (not much) but fails with a "system.outofmemoryexception" error. this happens when the "devenv.exe" process hits about 840MB.
Has anyone found a work around to this issue? The report is returning about 28,000 records of about 23 fields, so it isn't as if it is a massive data set that it is working with.
There are a lot of small groups, but even if I turn off the togge option, with the group having an initial visibility of hidden, the memory usage goes through the roof until the PC runs out of memory.
Curiously, when I publish the report to the same PC and run it in IE, it runs with no problems (albeit take a long time to retunr rows - even though the query runs in under a second).
It appears to be the rendering that is causing the memory balloon. Is there any way to reduce the memory usage of the rendering engine?
