Creating A Stored Procedure That Will Summarize Data In A Table Into A Table Reflecting Period Data Using An Array Type Field
Sep 20, 2007I am attempting to create a stored procedure that will launch at report runtime to summarize data in a table into a table that will reflect period data using an array type field. I know how to execute one line but I am not sure how to run the script so that it not only summarizes the data below but also creates and drops the table.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How To Convert Datetime Field To A Date Field So Excel Recognize It As Data Type
May 17, 2015I embedded a SQL query in excel that gets some datetime fields like "TASK_FINISH_DATE" .
How can I convert a datetime field to a date field in SQL in a way that excel will recognize it as a date type and not a text type?
I tried:
CONVERT(varchar(8),TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CONVERT(Date,TASK_FINISH_DATE ,3)
CAST(TASK_FINISH_DATE as date)
**all of the above returned text objectes in excel and not date objects.

I have several fields which contain Float/Decimal/Integer value, but RS reads them as text and I have to use CDbl() to convert text to numeric value.
In MSDN I found some info about "Type" attribute(?) for XmlElement.
My xml is:
...<Field1 Type="Float">34567.89</Field1>...
But RS still reads data from this field as text.
Is there any way to specify field's (xmlelement's) data type instead of using CDbl() function everywhere?
Filling Image Data Type Field

I am currently working on an application that uses a stored procedure to retrieve data from a database and then display it in a web page. My problem is that some of the data in the database will be images, I am currently putting in test data to test my code/procedures my problem is how do I put in test data for images, when I am finished I am going to add an admin section that will allow me to add images that way but how do I go about adding them to the database until then? I have set the field to the image data type but have no idea how to relate this to an image on my server?

Now here's my problem. The Data Type stored in the 'period' field of this new table I've created, dubbed averageprice, is a Text field and I want it to be a Number field. I've tried my best to figure this out and I'm still looking so any helpful hints or solution would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Does SSRS 2005 supports the type double for a field? Can the data source of a field in a dataset be an array? Is there a way to pass the array to a field by reference and display the values at runtime?

I want to populate a gridview using a single query that grabs all the info I need so that I may utilize the gridview's built in sorting.
I'm trying to return records containing the next upcoming mailing for each client.
The closest I can get is below:
I'm using GROUP BY because it allows me to return a single record for each client and the MIN part allows me to return the associated record in the mailings table for each client that contains the next upcoming 'send_date'

The user_id set at 1000 part is what makes it rightly pull in all clients for a particular user. Problem is, by using the GROUP BY statement I'm just getting the lowest 'mailing_id' number and NOT the actual entry associated with mailing item I want to return. Same goes for the last_name field. Perhaps I need to have a subquery within my WHERE clause?Or am I barking up the wrong tree entirely..

Apr 3, 2014I am trying to setup an indicator value for an SSRS report to show green and red values on a report, based on the NRESULT value. The problem I am facing is that I have several different CASE statements that have the same logic, and they are processing just fine. NRESULT is a decimal field, so no conversion should be necessary. I do not know why I am getting the "Arithmetic overflow error converting varchar to data type numeric." error message.
Below is the CASE statement where the error is occurring. It is in the part of the ELSE CASE. The first CASE works just fine when the ELSE CASE is commented out. If I also change the ELSE CASE statement to say "else case when LEFT(NRESULT,1) = '-' then '0'", then it processes fine, too, so it has to be something I am missing something in the check on negative values. I do need the two checks, one for positive and one for negative values, to take place.

Exported Flat File Data Will Not Import To Same Table Without Extensive Data-type Manipulation
Jul 13, 2007I'm moving data between identical tables and have to use a flat file as an intermediary. I thought: "No problem, SSIS can do a quick export to a file, then move the file to another server, then use SSIS to import the data to the new server."
Seems simple, right?
I'm hitting all sorts of surprising data conversion errors. I used the export wizard to create the export package. This works fine. However using the same flat file definition, the import package fails -- even when I have no destination. That is I have just one data flow task that contains only one control: the Flat File source. When I run the package the flat file definition fails with data type conversion and truncation errors. One of the obvious errors is for boolean types. The SQL field is a bit, SSIS defined the column as DT_BOOL, the output of the data are literal text values "TRUE" and "FALSE". So SSIS converts a sql datatype of bit to "TRUE" and "FALSE" on export, but can't make the reverse conversion on import?
Does anyone else find this surprising? I would expect that what SSIS exports, it can import given all the same table and flat file definitions. Is SSIS the wrong tool to do such simple bulk copies? I'd like to avoid using BCP because this process will need to run automatically within SQL Agent so we can leverage all the error tracking and system monitoring.
Informix Date Type Field To SQL Server Datetime Field Error

I am trying to drag data from Informix to Sql Server. When I kick off the package
using an OLE DB Source and a SQL Server Destination, I get DT_DBDATE to DT_DBTIMESTAMP
errors on two fields from Informix which are date data ....no timestamp part
I tried a couple of things:
Created a view of the Informix table where I cast the date fields as datetime year to fraction(5), which failed.
Altered the view to convert the date fields to char(10) with the hopes that SQL Server would implicitly cast them
as datetime but it failed.
What options do I have that will work?

Sep 20, 2006I am working on a program in VB 2005 in which i want to store and retrieve GPS coordinates. I am not sure which data type is the best to use to enter Latitude & Longitude numbers and maintain their proper integrity.
Like LAT ( N38 28.025' ) and LONG (W105 52.098' )
The numbers will be entered by the user and that format can be maintained, but how to re-enter & or insert them into the database using the same format is my real question.
I hope I have explained this right. The numbers in BOLD are what I need to maintain.

Dec 14, 2005After testing out the application i write on the local pc. I deploy it to the webserver to test it out. I get this error.
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: The conversion of a char data type to a
datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
Notes: all pages that have this error either has a repeater or datagrid which load data when page loading.
At first I thought the problem is with the date, but then I can see
that some other pages that has datagrid ( that has a date field) work
just fine.

Using temporary table cannot be done.

I have a stored procedure which uses:
DECLARE @Tmp TABLE ( Row_ID INT IDENTITY(1,1), Property_ID INT)
And I'd like to reuse the table in the stored procedure and have attempted to empty the table by calling
TRUNCATE TABLE @Tmp
But this doesn't work. How else can I do this? I don't want to use
DELETE FROM @Tmp
Because this doesn't reset the Row_ID, and I'm using the Row_ID in a WHILE loop. Any ideas?
