Task Manager Memory Show Wrong Number In Sqlservr.exe

May 28, 2008

Hi,

I've SQL Server 2005 Dev Edition and Windows Server 2003 ENT SP2.
in the task manager i see that the server use 5GB out of 6GB,but when i arrange the process to see whom takes all the memory i see that the sqlservr.exe takes 150MB(he is the biggest).
when i open Perfmon and look on the sqlservr.exe memory use, i see that he takes the 4.5G.
i've a problem that the server use alot of cpu time to run users queries,i see that pages/sec counter is very big average between 600-800.

is there any problem with my memory?
why the memory reading from the task manager is wrong?
if my pages/sec counter is so big do i have a memory leaks + pressure?

Windows Task Manager - Sqlservr.exe Mem Usage

Sep 12, 2007

Hello everyone,

I have my minimum server memory in SQL set to 4GB, but in my Windows Task Manager, sqlservr.exe only has about 100MB.

Does anyone have any idea why task manager doesn't show the full amount?

Thanks in advance.

Task Manager Memory?

Jul 8, 2004

I have a SQL Server 2000/E with 8 GB RAM in the machine.

It is configured to use fixed memory size, at 7GB, and all the appropriate OS switches are set to use that.

Everything had been working fine, but we've been having some production problems and while looking into it, I looked at task manager and while the server performance tab shows that the server is using 7+ GB, the processes tab shows sqlservr.exe at 107,724 K.

Do you think this is a real issue, and that the server might only be using 100 mb of ram? Does anyone have any larger servers like this that they could compare?

Thanks

Memory Usage In Task Manager

Feb 10, 2004

Hallo,

I am a newbie on SQL server and my problem is this:

My SQL server runs with many client queries and after a while I can observe that the meory usage of the SQL server shown in the Windows Task Manager is growing up (e.g. 260 MB !!!).

I checked the online books and found the settings "min/max server memory" which I set to

min = 4 MB
max = 20 MB

by Enterprise manager.

Then I restarted my SQL server, checked the memory settings again by Enterprise manager and started many client queries. The memory usage in Task Manager nevertheless exeeded the 20 MB.

What is my failure? How can I limit the memory usage of SQL server?

Thank you very much for any help...

Sqlservr.exe Using Too Much Memory! Please Help!

Jun 12, 2002

SQL 7.0(SP3) on NT Server(SP5)

The sqlservr.exe process is using almost 800MB of memory in Task Manager. We have 1GB physical RAM. The swapfile is on C: with min=950/max=1050MB. Is this normal? I think there may be some kind of memory leak. Any ideas?? Please HELP!

Sqlservr.exe Memory Steadily Climbing

Feb 22, 2002

I've a SQL 7 SP3 server that was running for more than 6 months without any problem and hence I never give much thought to it other than the monitoring the growth of the database size.

Just the other day, I was pretty shocked to see that SQLSERVR.EXE was using nearly 1 GB of RAM (and I have 1 GB of physical RAM)!!! My database size is only about 2 GB and there aren't many simultaneous users online. This database is used for a web application.

Today I have the opportunity to restart the SQLServer service (to apply the security hotfix). And I'm pretty dismay to see its memory usage climbing steadily at the rate of around 20 to 30 KB every few seconds. I guess it'd hit 1 GB in a matter of hours or days..

Now, I've a similar server on another machine.. but its SQLSERVR.EXE is only using around 20 MB and it doesnt grow much.

So..what should I do?? Ideas? Suggestions? Thanks!!

How To Set Port Number On Smtp Connection Manager Send Mail Task

Oct 29, 2007

Hello,

We have an SSIS job that runs once a day and sends emails.
For security reasons, IT switched the send-mail porton the smtp server from 25 to a different number (let's say 1234).

So, I changed the SSIS SMTP Connection Manager's smtpServer string to smptserver:1234

However, this does not seem to be working. I keep getting 'Send Mail Failure' error.

Any ideas how to set the port number for sending emails using SSIS?

thanks much,

Serious Perfomance Problem Using UDFs As Function Arguments. (I Suspect A Bug, Show Me I'm Wrong!)

Nov 29, 2007

(From an exchange originally posted on SQLServer.com, which wasn't resolved...)

To return views tailored to the user, I have a simple users table that holds user IDs, view names, parameter names, and parameter values that are fetched based on SUSER_SNAME(). The UDF is called MyParam, and takes as string arguments, the name of the view in use, and a parameter name. (The view the user sees is really a call to a corresponding table returning UDF, which accepts some parameters corresponding to the user.)

But the performance is very dependent on the nature of the function call. Here are two samples and the numbers reported by (my first use of) the performance monitor:
Call to table returning UDF, using local variables:

declare @orgauth varchar(50)
set @orgauth = dbo.MyParam('DeptAwards', 'OrgAuth')
declare @since datetime
set @since = DATEADD(DAY,-1 * dbo.MyParam('DeptAwards', 'DaysAgo'),CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
select * from deptAwardsfn(@orgauth,@since)

[187 CPU, 16103 Reads, 187 Duration]

Call to same table returning UDF, using scalar UDFs in parameters:

SELECT *
from deptAwardsFn (
dbo.MyParam('DeptAwards', 'OrgAuth')
,DATEADD(DAY,-1 * dbo.MyParam('DeptAwards', 'DaysAgo'),CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)
)
[20625 CPU, 1709010 Reads, 20632 Duration]
(My BOL documentation claims the CPU is in milliseconds and the Duration is in microseconds -- which I question.) Regardless of the unit of measure, it takes a whole bunch longer in the second case.

My only guess is that T-SQL is deciding that the parameter values (returned by dbo.MyParam) are nondeterministic, and continually reevaluates them somehow or other. (What ever happened to call by value?)

Can anyone shed some light on this strange (to me) behavior?

----- (and later, from me)---
(I have since discovered that the reference to CURRENT_TIMESTAMP in the function argument is the cause, but I suspect that is an error -- it should only capture the value of CURRENT_TIMESTAMP once, when making the function call IMHO.)

Number Are Displayed In The Wrong Format

HiI'm not sure if this is a .net or a SQL issue. My development machine is using SQL 2005 while the live server is SQL2000. I have a smallmoney field in the database for holding a house rent. The following is used to display the contents on the page<asp:Label ID="lblrent" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("rent", "(0:0.00)") %>'></asp:Label>In development, the number is displayed correctly, with the decimal place, .e.g. 200.50 but on the live server the number is displayed as 20050,00. What I have noticed in the database is that the number is held differentlySQL 2005 - 200.5000SQL 2000 - 20050Is there a difference between SQL 2000 and 2005? How do I get around this problem?

Wrong number of arguments used with function in query expression 'ISNULL((SELECT Sum(Game_Schedule.Score) FROM Game_Schedule WHERE Game_Schedule.T1_ID = standings.ID),0) + ISNULL((SELECT Sum(Game_Schedule.Opp_Score) FROM Game_Schedule WHERE Game_Schedule.T2_ID = standings.ID),0)'.

Custom Connection Manager Doesn't Show Up In VS?

Dec 16, 2005

I've created a very simple custom connection manager, and I followed the deployment instructions at http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms345276.aspx.  Basically, that was just copying the assembly to %programfiles%Microsoft SQL Server90DTSConnections, and then registering the asssembly in the gac.

However, when I open VS, right-click on the connection manager pane, and then choose new connection, my custom manager does not appear.  What am I missing?

Here is the class:

using System;

using System.Collections.Generic;

using System.Text;

using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime;

using System.Data.SqlClient;

using System.Xml;

namespace MyCoolCompany

{

[DtsConnection(DisplayName="Sharepoint Connection Manager",

Description="Connect to Sharepoint lists",

ConnectionType="Sharepoint",

ConnectionContact="My Cool Company",

UITypeName="SPDataFlowComponent, MyCoolCompany.SharepointConnectionManagerUI")]

class SharepointConnectionManager: ConnectionManagerBase

{

}

}

Report Manager And The Show Details Button

Jan 24, 2008

I've read posts that state it is impossible to remove the "Show Details" button on the tool bar in Report Manager.

I created a new role assignment for an individual on a folder with the "Browse" role only.

When that individual navigates to the folder and clicks the "Show Details" button, the "Delete" and "Move" buttons also appear on the tool bar, with a checkbox next to each report item.

I can't have a folder where my users have the ability to delete or move my published reports!

Am I missing a setting? Again, the user has the "Browse" role only on the folder.

Thanks.

Wrong Number Of Data Points Error In SSRS

Dec 11, 2007

Hi ALL,
I am getting 2 errors for the report which has graph.

1.The chart €˜Chart_ID0EDABDA€™ contains a different number of DataPoints per ChartSeries element than the number of StaticCategory elements. If the chart contains no StaticCategory, it must contain one DataPoint per ChartSeries.

2.[rsWrongNumberOfChartDataPoints] The chart €˜Chart_ID0EDABDA€™ has a ChartData element that contains a collection of 6 DataPoint element(s), which is different from the number of expected datapoints (1). The expected number of datapoints in the definition is (Max(number of static categories, 1) * Max (number of static series, 1)).

I am converting crystal reports to SSRS.Can anybody give me some info about Data points requirments and how to get rid of these errors.I am getting these 2 error almost all the SSRS reports having Graphs.
Thanks .

Number Formats - Why Does Excel Show 12.% Instad Of 12.0%?

Feb 6, 2007

I have a percentage cell within a matrix. I want this cell to be formatted to 1 decimal place, so I use the format of ##0.#% (After trying P1 etc). The cell appears formatted ok within the report viewer:

100%

12.9%

However after exporting to Excel the following occurs:

100.% - There is no 0 after the decimal point (but there is a decimal point . )

12.9% - Works ok when the the trailing digit is not a 0

Any ideas?

How To Show All Tables Info In Task Pad?

Jun 17, 2004

In the table view in the Task Pad view, it lists the number of rows and size of each table, which is great, however it only lists the first 25 tables or so and there is no scroll function.

1. Does anyone know how I can see this info in Task Pad for all tables, without having to use the search function and look up 200+ tables one-by-one?

2. Does anyone know of another utility or statement to run against the DB which will return this info all at once for all the tables?

Thanks.

Bug? Wrong Count In The Data Flow Task In Debug Mode

Mar 10, 2008

I just had this happen twice in a row. The data flow task is showing a number of records almost twice as high as the actual data that is going into the table. This happened to me in two different DFT's with different data.

I am using an OLEDB source which uses a query something like:

select * from functiona()

In the DataFlowTask I see it had around 400,000 Rows go through the path all the way to the deastionation..

However I know that isn't right. If I do:

select count(*) from functiona() I get 200000 rows. Now the weird thing is if I check the table that it inserted to, it has the right number of rows, 200,000. (Numbers are not exact).

Anyone else had this happen?

Integration Services :: SSIS FTP Task Sending Files To Wrong Folder

Aug 4, 2015

I'm using the FTP Task in SSIS to send files. They task succeeds but the files get uploaded to the wrong folder. Instead of being sent to the cg268301 folder they are being sent to the cg268300 despite selecting /cg268301 from the remote path field in the FTP task editor.

I've tried uploading this file to the /cg268301 file using an execute process task and it works fine. I just don't know why it won't work with the FTP task.
