Parameter Error When Previewing (New To SRS)

Mar 10, 2008

I am new to SRS and have yet to preview a report successfully. Here's my situation. I have a fairly complex set of logic that will generate the data that I use as the dataset for the report, this is housed in a stored proc that takes three parameters (2 DateTime and one varchar). The last few steps select the data into a temp table which I then issue a Select * on to get the data back for the report. This all works fine if I run it from the Data tab using the ! button, but when I try to preview I get an error saying the following:

An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Query execution failed for data set 'dsMarketPrices'.
Procedure or function 'spr_Recon_SelectMarketPrices' expects parameter '@DateStart', which was not supplied.

Do I have to manually add the parameters to the report? I assumed not since it knows to prompt me for them when I run the data using the ! button...

Exception Error When Previewing Report (VS 2005 SP1)

May 12, 2008

I am creating a report in VS 2005 SP1 (all updates applied) on a Windows 2003 Server with 8GB of RAM. When I preview the report (about 120,000 records) it locks up my machine for about 5 minutes and then gives an error:

An error occurred during local report processing.
An error has occurred during report processing.
Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

This report has a somewhat complex query, but when I deploy the report to the server (Reporting Services 2005) it runs fine. I just hate to deploy the report each time I want to preview it. Is there a setting for VS that I can change to increase memory? Or is there something else I need to check?

Thank you for any assistance!

How Do I Import Repeatable But Non Pre-defined Fields?

May 9, 2007

hello all,

I'm strugeling for quite soem time and hoping to get your assistance:

facts:

We have a flat file source
each record has the same set of columns, let's call it "identifying columns"
each row can have after the identifying columns (but not all the records have it) a second set of columns, let's call it "detailed info".
the "detailed info" set can repeat itself several time for each record
We have a sql table destination
The row in the table should represent an "indetifying columns" record

sample record 1:

David | 1 | Rodeo Drive | 456 |

sample record 2:

Jeff | 2 |

sample record 3:

John | 3 | Sunny rd | 111 | Marvell str | 6

expected output in the table:

David | 1 | Rodeo Drive | 456

Jeff | 2 | null | null

John | 3 | Sunny rd | 111

John | 3 | Marvell str | 6

question: How do i import the data from the source file into the table, when i dont know in advance how many columns each record has? and how do i divide the sets of "detailed info" into different records in the db?

Thanks,

Eric

Computed Fields And User-defined Functions

Apr 13, 2006

Hi everyone,

I would like to get some clarification about what these two concepts are.

This is what I think:
lets say that you want the user to choose two columns to add together and then that produces a calculated result. This would go in a computed field???

And user-defined functions are functions whereby users have for example to which which two columns they were going to allow to be processed for the calculation.

Is this correct???

Index On User Defined Type Fields

Apr 4, 2008

Is there a syntax to create indexes on user-defined type's fields and methods? Can I index UDT-fields?

I tried but only get syntax error.

Code Snippet

-- put an index on the picture luminance

CREATE INDEX myIdx ON myTbl(picMetaData.Brightness) -- !! error

GO

Error message:

Code Snippet

Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 1

Incorrect syntax near '.'.

According to books online (BOL), section User-defined types requirements says
In the SQL Server 2005 RTM version, CLR UDTs with user-defined serialization were allowed to have their fields indexed as part of non-persisted computed columns or views. In such situations, non-deterministic UDT serialization/deserialization could lead to index corruption, and therefore has been removed from SQL Server 2005 SP1. In SQL Server 2005 SP1, UDT fields must use native serialization or be persisted in order to be indexed. Any existing indexes on UDT fields should continue to function as before.

What are BOL trying to say about index on UDT fields?

Thanks for any hints!

Automatically Populate Application User Defined Field Based On Other Fields In Table

Nov 22, 2015

I am working with a vendor application called Cisco Unified Attendant Console - it operates on a Windows server with a SQL express database. The CUPs function of the application needs to reference a "contact" field with only the user portion of the contact's email address - generally, the contact's User ID will match the user portion of their email address, however, for this customer it does not (they use the employee number as the User ID and firstname.lastname as user portion of the email address.

Writing a script to accomplish the following:

The dbo.Contact_Properties table of the ATTCFG database has the following fields that we can work with:

- First_Name
 - Last_Name
 - Email
 - User_Field_2
 - Contact_Unique_Ref (appears to be the field that ties all other contact tables together ?)

Is it possible to create a script that could run daily to either, combine the First_Name and Last_Name fields (with a period between) and populate the User_Field_2 field for each user, or populate the User_Field_2 field with everything before the @ symbol in the Email field for each user?

Also, by default the servers that this application is installed on does not have SQL Server Management Studio installed - is it possible to accomplish with PowerShell script triggered from the Windows Scheduler?

When Previewing, Columns Aren't Rendered? SP2-related?

Nov 12, 2007

Okay, when i go and preview a report that has columns (my report is designed for printing lables, i'm just pulling names and addresses and placing them in a list text box and 3 columns), the columns do not show. Keep in mind this is in "preview" cause html cannot handle columns.

On the first page, the middle column is blank, then the second page has blank first and last columns, and this repeats throughout the preview. So column 2 is blank, then 1 & 3 are blank, and so on.

I'm wondering if this is a SP2-related thing cause i know SP2 caused the black-preview-renderings (and i fixed that).

I know it's working properly cause i can export to PDF and it's perfect.

So, this is merely a rendering issue (at least so far). Does anyone have any suggestions or any advice to a fix on this? I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE? It'd be very nice to be able to preview my reports before they're deployed to the intranet website.

Thanks in advance!

Primary Key Is Defined, Need To Process Thrown Error:

May 28, 2004

Hello:

I have a database table where a primary key is defined. When I enter data that is the same as another table, it does not allow and throws an error which I do want. What happens is that a Server Error in Application error type is thrown with the following message:

Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK_cs_sc'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'cs_sc'. The statement has been terminated.

How can I detect the error in my own asp.net page code so that it does not forward my users to the asp.net server error page? Heres my code below... how can I check for success or failure within this code?

Dim conSqlConnect As SqlConnection
Dim strInsert As String
Dim cmdInsert As Sqlcommand
conSqlConnect = New SqlConnection( "Server=localhost;uid=var;pwd=var;database=var" )
strInsert = "Insert cs_sc ( [name] ) Values ( @name )"
cmdInsert = New SqlCommand ( strInsert, conSqlConnect )
conSqlConnect.Open()
cmdInsert.ExecuteNonQuery()
conSqlConnect.Close()

Error Notification From User Defined Function

Jul 23, 2005

Is there any reason why I shouldn't cause an arithmetic error(say bydividing by zero) in a User Defined Function for a situation where in astored procedure you would use RAISERROR or in code you would throw anexception? In most situations, I can check the return value of the UDF to see thatit is valid. However, I want to sum the output of UDF and thereforecannot check the return value. Errors should be so rare that I wouldrather not use a cursor to do the sum--and take the peformance hit.Following is the code:SELECT SUM([dbo].[udf_MyFunction]([Column1],[Column2]))FROM tblMyTableThanks ~ Matt

Problem About Error Handling In User Defined Function

Sep 14, 2007

i have a table in which there is a column of type varchar(20), containing a non-standard datetime string, so i wrote a user-defined function to convert this string to datetime value to do further work. the function first reformat the string so that sql server can recognize it and then use cast() function convert the reformatted string to datetime type.

at begining it works fine, but now i found that there might be some corrupted data in this daily-updated table, whos date string is unconvertable. so when i'm trying to process some date containing corrupted records, the string-to-datetime function breaks, reporting it has meet an converting error. i searched msdn and found that the tsql try..catch statement can't be used in user defined function. now i have no idea on how to solve this problem, is there anyone can help me? or is there any way to pick those corrupted rows out so i can throw them away? thanks

Error 30002: Type 'Microsoft.Vsa.VsaModule' Is Not Defined When Using Web Service

May 1, 2008

Hello,

I'm receiving the following error when executing a Visual Basic Script Task in SQL Server Integration Services. I've cross posted the same question there and have not received a solution regarding the error. I've also posted the message to the Visual Basic forum becuase multiple products are involved and I'm unsure where it is best suited.

The error occurs on multiple machines. I'm using Visual Studio 2005 and Reporting Services 2005. Has anyone encountered this error before?

Error: 0x7 at Generate Snapshot: Error 30002: Type 'Microsoft.Vsa.VsaModule' is not defined.

I'm creating the task to interact with our reporting server as prescribed in a separate thread. I'm trying to generate a report snapshot using a web service for SQL Reporting Services. The actual code snippet is listed below. ReportingService2005 is a proxy class created by WSDL.EXE to provide an interface to the report services webservice.

Interestingly, the error does not occur when the proxy class is removed. I have added a reference to System.Web.Services and System.XML.

Expression Defined In SELECT Clause Overwrites Column Defined In FROM Clause

May 14, 2008

2 examples:

1) Rows ordered using textual id rather than numeric id

Code Snippet
select
cast(v.id as nvarchar(2)) id
from
(
select 1 id
union select 2 id
union select 11 id
) v
order by
v.id

Result set is ordered as: 1, 11, 2
I expect: 1,2,11

if renamed or removed alias for "cast(v.id as nvarchar(2))" expression then all works fine.

2) SQL server reject query below with next message

Server: Msg 169, Level 15, State 3, Line 16
A column has been specified more than once in the order by list. Columns in the order by list must be unique.

Code Snippet
select
cast(v.id as nvarchar(2)) id
from
(
select 1 id
union select 2 id
union select 11 id
) v
cross join (
select 1 id
union select 2 id
union select 11 id
) u
order by
v.id
,u.id

Again, if renamed or removed alias for "cast(v.id as nvarchar(2))" expression then all works fine.

It reproducible on

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.2039 (Intel X86) May 3 2005 23:18:38 Copyright (c) 1988-2003 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)

and

Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (Intel X86) Feb 9 2007 22:47:07 Copyright (c) 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)

In both cases database collation is SQL_Latin1_General_CP1251_CS_AS

If I check quieries above on database with SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation then it works fine again.

Could someone clarify - is it bug or expected behaviour?

#Error In Total Fields

I have data in a field (on a table) as follows which displays 0.00 if there is a zero in the divide by field, otherwise it performs the divide and gives me a percentage difference from the two fields.

Querying Large Text Fields Resulting In Timeout Error

May 16, 2007

Hello:

I have designed a CV database with complete CV stored in a TEXT field. There is a keyword search which queries the TEXT field also. The query conditions are defined in T-SQL submitted through an ASP page. There is about 20,000 records now. Now while querying the database for keyword search I am receiving time out errors. Is there any solution other than Index server to rectify this situation. How can I speed up the query execution time. Please advise.

Subreports: Parameter Value Dropdown Shows Sum And Count Fields But Not The Actual Data Fields.

Jan 28, 2008

I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.

I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.

For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.

When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.

Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Sirisha

Transact SQL :: Get One Row From Multiple Based On Fields And Also Get Sum Of Decimal Fields?

Jul 2, 2015

I am using MS SQL 2012.  I have a table that contains all the data that I need, but I need to summarize the data and also add up decimal fields while at it.  Then I need a total of those added decimal fields. My data is like this:

I have Providers, a unique ID that Providers will have multiples of, and then decimal fields. Here are my fields:

ID, provider_name, uniq_id, total_spent, total_earned

Here is sample data:

1, Harbor, A07B8, 500.00, 1200.00
2, Harbor, A07B8, 400.00, 800.00
3, Harbor, B01C8, 600.00, 700.00
4, Harbor, B01C8, 300.00, 1100,00
5, LifeLine, L01D8, 700.00, 1300.00
6, LifeLine, L01D8, 200.00, 800.00

I need the results to be just 3 lines:

Harbor, A07B8, 900.00, 2000.00
Harbor, B01C8, 900.00, 1800.00
LifeLine, L01D8, 900.00, 2100.00

But then I would need the totals for the Provider, so:

Harbor, 1800.00, 3800.00
