That inserts user info in to database via storeproc

I have a create user wizard. On the created user event. I am calling a datasource.insert to insert the email, userid, and opt in to newsletter option into another table.
For some reason it is inserting the value twice into the database. I have checked possibilities for why this might be happening. I am pulling my hair out.
Any ideas?

I have a form setup, the code of which is listed below, and I would like to be able to submit the data that is entered in the form to a SQL 2005 standard database via the SqlDataSource control and a button. Can anyone think of a reason for whilst configuring my SqlDataSource using the wizard in VS2005, when I click Advanced the Generate Insert, Update and Delete Statements option is greyed out. Been using them plenty of times already elsewhere in the site, yet for no apparent reason it won't work on a couple of pages.

Hi, it is few days I posted here my question, but received no answer. Maybe the problem is just my problem, maybe I put my question some strange way. OK, I try to put it again, more simply. I have few textboxes, their values I need to transport to database. I set SqlDataSource, parameters... and used SqlDataSource.Insert() method. I got NULL values in the database's record. So I tried find problem by using Microsoft's sample code from address http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.ui.webcontrols.sqldatasource.insert.aspx. After some changes I tried that code and everything went well, data were put into database. Next step was to separate code beside and structure of page to two separate files followed by new test. Good again, data were delivered to database. Next step: to use MasterPage, very simple, just with one ContentPlaceHolder. After this step the program stoped to deliver data to database and delivers only NULLs to new record. It is exactly the same problem which I have found in my application. I have not found anything useful on the Wizard control. Anything I can find gets to the last step and then just takes the info you supplied and applies them to a bunch of Label.Text's - none that do work.
So I am building a Wizard control for an HR system that will insert the information into SQL through a SqlDataSource. The problem is, only the controls that are present in whichever step is currently selected in VWD will appear in the Command and Parameter Editor.
I tried to work around it by selecting the first step, then applying the controls in step 1 within the Parameter Editor, but when I go back to do step 2, it erases everything I just did for step 1.
How do I implement the Wizard with a SqlDataSource?

Im ripping my hair out here.I need to access the field in a datasource control of use in non presentation layer code based actions.I know the I can use a code base connection and query but I dont see why i need to make two trips the the DB when the info is already available.The datasource is attached to a details view control and the details view control is nested in a loginview controlI've tried defining but all I can get in the header name of the field but not the dataitem, the dataitem causes an error help please jim

Hi,How do I get hold of the HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.Name from within an sqldatasource? I want to create a WHERE clause that says WHERE UserName = @UserName and the @UserName parameter be filled with the current user name. I would be able to do this in code, but I don't know how to get at this information from within a datasource. At a guess I tried to use the Cookie option from the drop down list, and use the name of the FormsAuthentication Cookie, but this didn't work. Is there a way I can do this? If so how? I don't want to resort to using a hidden field or anything like that if I can help it. Many thanks, Steve

hello all... I have a sql2005express database that I am trying to use a sqldatasource control on. I drop the control on to the page and click the configure data source link. I choose a db connection that I have setup previously. on the next step where you are supposed to select the table or view you want to use I only see views, no tables.
I can use the SQL statement option to get data from the table. and I can drag the table from the database explorer window onto the design surface, which will create all of the sql statements (select, insert,update,delete)
I am using a specific userid to access data but I do not really have any special permissions setup
any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I've added an SqlDataSource control to my web page and selected "Configure Data Source" on it. This brings up a "Choose Your Data Connection" wizard, and it asks you to select from a dropdown list of presumably pre-existing connection strings in my web.config file. However none of my connection strings will display in that dropdown list. The only thing i can do is hit the "Create New Connection" button and this adds yet another connection string to my web.config file. I've already ran through the wizard once, created a new connection string, but when i run through the wizard again, even the new connection string - the one created by the last wizard will not appear in the dropdown list. Any suggestions? Jason

Using the SQLdatasource wizard, selecting "Specify a custom statement or Stored Procedure", but the "Stored Procedure" radio button and drop box are NOT enabled (greyed out) and cant be selected. Login has sa and no schema's are implemetned yet... Help?
Is there a setting I'm missing? (like how table needs a primary key set for wizard to allow auto-generate statements)
Otherwise, Is there a work-around I can use?

With a Gridview Control, I set the SqlDataSource to be a stored procedure in a Sql Sever database.
Using the wizzard to configure the datasource, the test returns lots of rows. After completing the wizzard, the gridview control does not show the column names in the VS2005 designer. For the gridview column headers the values are Databound Col0, Databound Col1, Databound Col2, ....) This tells me I have a problem.
I tried the same thing with a simpler stored procedure. This test stored procedure does not call anything else, takes several input parameters, returns rows. The column names show in the gridview control as expected.
So I am trying to figure out why the first case of gridview with sqldatasource is not working and the second case works . The stored procedure that is not working with my gridview calls multiple inner stored procedures and has #TEMP tables. My complex stored procedure ends with Select * from #Temp.
Could the calling of other inner stored procedures and use of #temp tables contribute to the problem? If yes then what is the strategy for using a gridview and loading it with the data that the complex stored procedure returns?

Hello, I'm new to the forum and new to SQL, ASP.NET, etc. I am creating an intranet site for my company in VS 2005 and have run into a very annoying problem that I can't seem to solve. I have tried Googling it and came up empty. I have a database in SQL Express 2005 and my website will be accessing several tables within the database. I can retrieve info just fine and I can update, delete, etc just fine using gridview or other prebuilt tools, but when I add a few text boxes and wire a button to the SqlDataSource.Insert() command, I get a new record that is full of null values except for the identity key I have set. The kicker is that I am also using a master page and when I duplicate the web page without the master page link, everything works just fine. Hello,
I'm trying to make a query to insert data form xls file to my database and it's working
Here's my code
INSERT INTO MY_TABLE
SELECT SAP_NBR, PERIOD, ANSWER, OSAT, SCORE
FROM OpenDataSource( 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Data Source="C:

And I would like to verify if there no sap_nrb and period already the same in the database
so I add :
AND SAP_NBR not in MY_TABLE.SAP_NBR
AND PERIOD not in MY_TABLE.PERIOD
but it doesn't work
what's the correct syntax to make it work ???

I'm trying to wrap my head around inserting values into a table w/ SQLDataSource. What I'm trying to do is have a form where users can submit their feedback and their responses would get put into a table on the backend. It would store not only their comments, but their userid, the url that they were on last, and which area they're from. The trouble is, I have no idea if I'm coding this correctly. Hi,I'm new at asp .net and have a problem. I have a page where the logged in user can add another user to his list of friends. To do this, I have a page where all the users are listed by using a datalist, and I have a form with an invisible field which passes the value of <%#DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "UserName")%> in post when the user clicks on "add as a friend" so that in the next page I can get that value and add it as well as the username of the logged in user to the table friendships. I'm trying to insert data into a table from two sources (a table and form controls) at the same time.
--this data from the tradeitem table and is inserted into the selections table
--based on the variable @builderid --no problem it works fine as is

However, I need these also to pull from the form controls

Dear All,
I have created a table in my SQL server database, the problem i am facing is my insert query fails if i leave any form field empty (leave it blank). On my back-end table, only one field is mandatory, and others have been set with the constraint "allow null".
As per our business requirement, except one value is complusory while others are optional. If I enter all values in the form it works perfectly fine. Can you see in the code below - where am i possibly going wrong ?

I have a large number of Access tables that I need to periodically bring to SQL using the DTS Wizard in SQL 2000 (via Ent. Man). I am only interested in bring over the data from the MS Access tables as I had a separate script (application drive) that would create the SQL tables.

I have created an insert trigger to update an address column with a default when it is null, for different clients using a case statement.
When I import data using the import wizard, the trigger doesn't fire.
Doesn't SQL see an import as an insert?
How can I get this trigger to fire for an import?

I am trying to use the Import Wizard to setup a daily job to import new records based on an ID field (PK). The source database is remote and a replica. I am inserting new records to update my table called the same thing. Both are SQL Native Client

Anyone know an easy why to get this to work? Or should I add a create table to verify new records?

Hello,
My company Intranet has a form that agents can use to post their comments about the company to upper management, but our customer service department would like to modify the form so that the agent has to pick from a comment type.
The dropdown options on the form will be as follows:
ComplimentsComplaintsGeneral CommentsSuggestions
Each dropdown option has a designated table in a SQL DB.Using postback on the same page, I need to change which fields of the form are visible based upon which dropdown selection the user chooses, and I need the fields to then be inserted into the table that corresponds with the dropdown selection item.
For example: If the Compliments dropdown selection is picked, I need a text box to show for the user's location, the name of the customer, account number, and the message box. Once the submit button is clicked, the characters in these boxes need to be inserted into the Compliments table using its data adapter.
However, if the user selects Suggestions, the name of the customer and the account number should not be visible, since these fields do not exist and when the submit button is pressed, the Suggestions table should be updated.
If you need more information, I will provide whatever is needed.

I've used the ADS sample program and it works well. I looked at the code and changed it to VB (sorry, I'm not biligual yet), and have tried to 'adjust' it so I can connect to a remote PC (XP running IIS) instead of the local PC using the workgroup information database (system.mdw). Any ideas of the connection string that could make the connection?..my intention is to RDA once a week between a mobile device (3g/gsm) and a 'poor man's' IIS web server.
I've tried everything I can think of, and I'm sure its possible since all I'm doing is changing the connection path.
