Unable To Extend Temp Segment By 64 In Tablespace TEMP (SSIS Error While Copying Data From Oracle)
Oct 22, 2007
I am transferring data from oracle and getting below error message.
I using 4 data flow tasks with in a single control flow and all the 4 tasks quueries same table but populates data in to different sql tables based on the where contidion
[OLE DB Source 1 [853]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "ORA-01652: unable to extend temp segment by 64 in tablespace TEMP ".
I'm new to SQL Server, but have worked a lot with oracle. I'm not sure if some of the terms I'll use is specific to oracle or if SQL server DBAs also use it. Please bear with me. I was wondering if I could change the default temporary database or file group (sql equivalent to oracle's default temporary tablespace)for a user. I also would like to change the rollback segment for a transaction. In oracle it would be: set transaction use rollback segment 'seg_name'.
Looking at BOL for temp tables help, I discover that a local temp table (I want to only have life within my stored proc) SHOULD be visible to all (child) stored procs called by the papa stored proc.
However, the following code works just peachy when I use a GLOBAL temp table (i.e., ##MyTempTbl) but fails when I use a local temp table (i.e., #MyTempTable). Through trial and error, and careful weeding efforts, I know that the error I get on the local version is coming from the xp_sendmail call. The error I get is: ODBC error 208 (42S02) Invalid object name '#MyTempTbl'.
Here is the code that works:SET NOCOUNT ON
CREATE TABLE ##MyTempTbl (SeqNo int identity, MyWords varchar(1000)) INSERT ##MyTempTbl values ('Put your long message here.') INSERT ##MyTempTbl values ('Put your second long message here.') INSERT ##MyTempTbl values ('put your really, really LONG message (yeah, every guy says his message is the longest...whatever!') DECLARE @cmd varchar(256) DECLARE @LargestEventSize int DECLARE @Width int, @Msg varchar(128) SELECT @LargestEventSize = Max(Len(MyWords)) FROM ##MyTempTbl
SET @cmd = 'SELECT Cast(MyWords AS varchar(' + CONVERT(varchar(5), @LargestEventSize) + ')) FROM ##MyTempTbl order by SeqNo' SET @Width = @LargestEventSize + 1 SET @Msg = 'Here is the junk you asked about' + CHAR(13) + '----------------------------' EXECUTE Master.dbo.xp_sendmail 'YoMama@WhoKnows.com', @query = @cmd, @no_header= 'TRUE', @width = @Width, @dbuse = 'MyDB', @subject='none of your darn business', @message= @Msg DROP TABLE ##MyTempTbl
The only thing I change to make it fail is the table name, change it from ##MyTempTbl to #MyTempTbl, and it dashes the email hopes of the stored procedure upon the jagged rocks of electronic despair.
Any insight anyone? Or is BOL just full of...well..."stuff"?
If on the source I have a new column, the script generated by SqlPackage.exe recreates the table on the background with moving the data into a temp storage. If the table is big, such approach can cause issues.
Example of the script is below: in the source project I added columns [MyColumn_LINE_1] and [MyColumn_LINE_5].
Is there any way I can make it generating an alter statement instead?
BEGIN TRANSACTION; SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL SERIALIZABLE; SET XACT_ABORT ON; CREATE TABLE [dbo].[tmp_ms_xx_MyTable] ( [MyColumn_TYPE_CODE] CHAR (3) NOT NULL,
[Code] ....
The same script is generated regardless the table having data or not, having a clustered or nonclustered PK.
For some reason in Enterprise Manager for SQL Server 2000, I cannotput the following line into a trigger:select * into #deleted from deletedWhen I hit the Apply button I get the following error:Cannot use text, ntext, or image columns in the 'inserted' or'deleted' tablesThis seems like a weird error, since I am not actually doing anythingto the inserted or deleted tables, I am just trying to make a tempcopy.I have another workaround but I am just curious why this happens. Thanks,Rebecca
I have a real table with an identity column and a trigger to populate this column.
I need to import / massage data for data loads from a different format, so I have a temp table defined that contains only the columns that are represented in the data file so I can bulk insert.
I then alter this table to add all the other columns so that it reflects all the columns in the real table. I then populate all the values so that this contains the data I need.
I then want to insert into the real table pushing the data from the temp table, however this gives me errors stating that the query returned multiple rows.
I specified all the columns in the insert grouping as well as on the select from the temp table.
ANY thoughts / comments are appreciated. This is beginning to drive me nuts.
PLease help me with a intruiging problem with Stored Procedure, which is driving me mad.......
I wrote a Stored Procedure as listed below. I've included the options SET NOCOUNT ON SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER OFF
the results are stored in a #Temp table
The SP executes fine on Query Analyzer, and shows the contents of the temp table. BUt when I run this SP using ASP, I got the following error ----------- ADODB.Recordset (0x800A0E78) Operation is not allowed when the object is closed. /test_site/test.asp, line 59 ------------
I've tried using Recordset.MoveNextRecordset, if at all there are more than one recordset, obviously I got the same error

I have an application that I am working on that uses some small temptables. I am considering moving them to Table Variables - Would thisbe a performance enhancement? Some background information: The system I am working on has numeroustables but for this exercise there are only three that really matter.Claim, Transaction and Parties.A Claim can have 0 or more transactions.A Claim can have 1 or more parties.A Transaction can have 1 or more parties.A party can have 1 or more claim.A party can have 1 or more transactions. Parties are really many tomany back to Claim and transaction tables.I have three stored procsinsertClaiminsertTransactioninsertPartiesFrom an xml point of view the data looks like this<claim><parties><info />insertClaim takes 3 sets of paramters - All the claim levelinformation (as individual parameters), All the parties on a claim (asone xml parameter), All the transactions on a claim(As one xmlparameter with Parties as part of the xml)insertClaim calls insertParties and passes in the parties xml -insertParties returns a recordset of the newly inserted records.insertClaim then uses that table to join the claim to the parties. Itthen calls insertTransaction and passes the transaction xml into thatsproc.insertTransaciton then inserts the transactions in the xml, and alsocalls insertParties, passing in the XML snippet
I have a database with serveral tables, for example 'customer', I want to update this table with a SSIS package. However, to ensure we don't have issues if the update fails then I've put in an intermediate stage
Using an Execute SQL Task I create temporary tables, for example 'customer_tmp'. Data is then imported into these tables. When all the data is imported successfully the original tables are dropped and the temporary tables are renamed, removing the '_tmp'
This works fine and I'm happy with it. However, if someone adds a column to one of the tables in SQL server it is lost on the next upload.
Similarly I have to hard code creating the indexes into the package as well.
Does anyone know how I could copy the original table definitions and create the temporary tables dynamically. So that any new columns would be picked up?
And indeed is it possible to copy the indexes from one table to another before the drop and rename trick?
I created a SSIS solution for reading data from dbase and storing them in SQL Server. In a ForEachDirectory-Loop up to one thousand dbase files are read and stored. The system where the packages are running has 16 GB RAM. For the first few hundred dbase files everything goes fine, but then, the RAM seems not to suffice any more and a temp file is created (I changed the path in BufferTempStoragePath).
How can it be that there is a need to create temp files if there is so much RAM available? Why is the RAM filled more and more during the SSIS package execution? Is there anything I can do to release some of it? (it is running in a loop and there is no need to store all the data) Could it be caused by dbase?? (I use Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider)
Another thing is that the temp file is not stored in the path I set in BufferTempStoragePath. There are sufficient permissions set, but temp file is still created in user temp folder...
A collegue of mine is having some issues. I hope someone can help
Hi all,
This is my first call for technical assistance so go easy on me.
I'm having a problem in one of my SSIS packages. In brief, the process involves copying the rows from an untyped table to a typed table. There are about 45,000 rows in this table and during the copy ("OLE DB source" to "OLE DB destination") the process appears to hang for about 5 minutes eventually crashing with a "The buffer manager could not get a temporary file name. The call to GetTempFileName failed."
After several attempts using all the trace info I could master this is the order of events with some interesting numbers and facts:
1. The SSIS package goes swifty through "Validation", "Prepare for Execution" and "Execution" in less than 1 second, with "Execute phase is beginning" being the last message on the "Progress tab".
2. Using Performance counters I note that in the next 5 mins the values for "BLOB bytes read" slowly rises and then after a couple of mins so does ""BLOB files in use" the latter reaching a figure of 65534
3. When this figure is reached, SSIS starts creating thousands of zero-size files with the name DTS####.tmp (where #### is hex e.g. DTSB4C1.TMP) in the TEMP folder (C:Documents and Settings<username>Local SettingsTemp in my case).
4. When I started running this package there were 130 files in my TEMP folder; As soon as the combined total of files in TEMP reaches 65664 (i.e. 65534+130), SSIS starts producing the errors list which includes the one I listed above and eventually it clears the TEMP folder down to the original 130 files.
5. My conclusion (thus far) is that SSIS creates all these 1000s of tmp files but in my case hits some kind of maximum (either a folder limit or runs out of hex combinations for the file names) and then crashes.
6. The only thread I found on the internet suggested setting up an environment variable "BLOBTempStoragePath" and assigning a value of "C:Temp1;C:Temp2;C:Temp3;C:Temp4" so that SSIS can span across a number of "temporary" folders instead of the 1 default folder contained in the "TEMP" environment variable.
7. Setting the above environment variable in Windows 2000 did not work for me (tried it as both a user variable and a system environment variable). So here are the facts so far - ANY assistance will be hugely appreciated - I have no idea why all these temporary files are being generated - I have created SSIS packages handling data sets 10 times bigger than this one without these problems so I don't think it's size related.
I have to extract data from a read only table using a globel temp table then export it to another OLE DB connection or to a flat file. But in the new SSIS packages it does not allow you to do thisusing the global ## symbols in front of a table name. How do I get around this?
I want to create a local temporary table in execute sql task and and want to use the same in Data flow task as source table.
I follow the following steps to achieve this:
01. Created a new SSIS package 02. Create a connection string to "(local)/." server, "tempdb" database 03. Set the "RetainSameConnection" property value to "TRUE" 04. Set the "DelayValidation" to "TRUE", where ever I found this property 04. In Control Flow I added to items a. Execute SQL Task b. Data Flow Task 05. For "Execute SQL task" I set the connection to "tempdb" 06. I written the following query Create table #transfer_CompaniesToProcess_tbl ( companyID int not null ) GO 07. In Data Flow task I added "OLE DB Source" and "OLE DB Destination" 08. In "OLE DB Source" I changed the "Data access mode:" to "SQL command" 09. In "SQL command text:" I entered "select * from #transfer_CompaniesToProcess_tbl" 10. When I clicked on the "OK" button; I ended with following error:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio ------------------------------ Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. I gone through the following article and it seems I missed some thing. http://blogs.conchango.com/jamiethomson/archive/2006/11/19/SSIS_3A00_-Using-temporary-tables.aspx
When I attempt to dump data to it I get the followig error...
The total row size (13052) for table '#TempTest' exceeds the maximum number of bytes per row (8060). Rows that exceed the maximum number of bytes will not be added.
Is there any way to get around this as the field I'm taking the data from is varChar(1000) and I don't have any problems with that?
i am trying to create stored procedure but i am getting error

I try to modify a code to create a temp table but got an error.

Here I am creating a temp table with $ summations that I can later join with an employees table that I'm dumping into a flat file.
select
e.employee_no, sum(p.fit) as sumfit, sum(p.fica) - sum(p.medicare) as sumfica, sum(p.medicare) as sumedic, sum(p.fit_earnings) as pearnings, sum(p.fit_earnings) as tearnings
into #earntable
from employees as e left outer join pay_summary as p on e.employee_no =p.employee_no
where e.employee_no = 817 and dateadd(d, 0, datediff(d, 0, p.dated)) between '20061231'and '20070401'
group by e.employee_no
select * from #earntable
When I go to look at the contents of the #earntable with the above select, I get this:
ODBC error 214 Procedure expects parameter '@handle' of type 'int'. (42000)
The datatypes I'm trying to select into the temp table are all numeric 12 except employee_no char 10.
Hi Guys, i've found many threds with SSIS buffer errors but non of them seems to work, or have a good solution. i'l explain the story short.
i've got a DB server running on Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise with 10GB RAM 20GB Virtual memory with same spec another machine for the web server.
both machines have "Lock Memory in memory" group policy enabled for
Network Service System DomainSQLServiceAccount (in DB server) and in the DB memory "awe allocation" is also enabled. both servers have /PAE /3GB switches enabled in boot.ini file
problem: i run all my SSIS packages in the web server through IIS. so the processes are devided between DB and web server. i.e SSIS service is also running in web server.
when i run packages under load (transforming - 200,000 records) i get buffer allocation errors.
A buffer failed while allocating 10485760 bytes. Error Code = -1073450990 all packages i run i have set the default buffer temp to my web servers e: emp (got 260GB space left). and defaultbuffer size is 10mb with 10,000 defaultbuffermaxrows.
funny this is when it hit 8.33GB (approx 875 files) i get the above error message. it always seems to give me errors after 8.33GB.
Note: all packages run in IIS (w3wp.exe). i'm configuring my new production boxes. the old production with similar envirnment (less speed) work with the same data and packages fine under load.
new production machine got more memory than the old machine but i get memory error (buffer). it doesn't even use up all available physical memory, only about 3gb (max), then start buffering to disk.
any help would be greately appreciated.
i also got
The system reports 31 percent memory load. There are 10734981120 bytes of physical memory with 7326126080 bytes free. There are 3221094400 bytes of virtual memory with 283840512 bytes free. The paging file has 12661686272 bytes with 9633767424 bytes free.Error Code = -1073450991 this was before i increased virtual memory to 20gb(from 4gb).
I am building a dynamic query stored procedure. I am first filling a temp table with data:
Declare @Counter int
drop table #tempmerge create table #tempmerge(IDIndex int IDENTITY, CitationNum char(9),Exp1 int)
insert into #tempmerge Select E_Cit_For_Merge, Count(*) as Exp1 from dbo.E_Citation_XML_Data group by E_Cit_For_Merge having Count(*)>1 select * from #tempmerge
Not sure if you can help on this but Ive got a stored procedure in sql server and it creates a temp table. I then call another stored procedure from this one. When it returns to the 1st stored procedure I want the temp table to keep the information entered into the table, but the data is lost.
Is there a flag that can be turned on and off do this?
Good morning, everyone. Maybe I'm just having a brain fart, but I'm totally new to SSIS (I dabbled very little with DTS in the 2000 days) and cannot for the love of me figure out how to achieve my goal with it:
My company needs to extract data from a variety of sources; tab-delim files, Access databases, other SQL tables and the like. I know how to do this. However, I need to perform data manipulation queries on this data before I place them into SQL tables, as I want to avoid having umpteen temporary tables that I'll need to add checking for. My predecessor did everything in Access, and has a 76-step process (yikes!) that basically will grab all the data, do some minor manipulation, and plop it into a temp table (this is still in Access, not SQL), then repeat the same thing dozens of times.
To give you an example, here's a sample of what I want to do:
- Extract several columns of data from a tab-delimited file on the local drive. This I know how to do already. - Perform some data cleanup and manipulation functions on this data (specifically, obtain the lowest value out of three columns, with the added caveat that I make sure it's not zero to begin with). I have the SQL code for this already written. - Store the results of this data somewhere, so I can pull it and apply additional logic to it; for example, take the lowest value I've retrieved, and update the corresponding column in another database table with it.
Basically, is there any way to avoid the use of dozens of temp tables? There's a lot of data which needs to be pulled in, manipulated, and spit back out to be manipulated by something else a little later on, and the way my predecessor did it was, as I said, to use dozens of Access "Make Table" queries for every minor thing. It's not a big deal if I need to do it, just I'm trying to consolidate the steps needed, as the old way is very inefficient. I've been at this job a month and I'm still trying to wade through all of his queries to discover just what they do, and look into combining several of them.
Forgive the slightly newbish question, but as I stated I've not worked with SSIS really. I'm in the process of learning it better, as I'm sure it can fit our needs.
how I can load the CSV file data into the sql server table. I know there are ways like bulk insert and other to load the csv file data into the table. But in my case the table doesn't exist and has to be created at the run time. With simple insert in temp table we do like select * into #temp from tablename and that creates the temp table. So. I need something like that which create the temp table and load the data into it. because the CSV file would have different number of columns and names so I can not create the table structure in advance. I have to create the table at run time.
I am querying a table in oracle, the server connection to the Oracle database is determined by a criteria. Though how can I put the results from the oracle query into a temp table ?
This is the code i'm using for the query:
DECLARE @cmd VARCHAR(500) declare @Year varchar(25) set @Year = '2006'
