UPDATE A SET ConsumerLogon =
(SELECT email FROM TABLE B
WHERE userNumber = LEFT (A.ConsumerLogon ,CHARINDEX ( '@' , A.ConsumerLogon , 1 ) -1) )
Seems like the subquery expression does not receive ConsumerLogon from the outer query.is this possible to refer to outer query in subquery expression?
Hello everyone, is there anyway to use an update sub query in a case expression , something like this for exampleselect username,(case when password ='606' then (update users set username = 'me' where id= '3') else password end) from users i have been googling this issue just with no usefull resultsthanks for any replyMahmoud Manasrah
This program gets the values of A and B passed in. They are for table columns DXID and CODE. The textbox GET1 is initialized to B when the page is loaded. When I type another value in GET1 and try to save it, the original initialized value gets saved and not the new value I just typed in. A literal value, like "222" saves but the new GET1.TEXT doesn't.
I'm looking for a query that can "batch" update one table from another. For example, say there are fields on both tables like this: KeyField Value1 Value2 Value3 The two tables will match on "KeyField". I would like to write one SQL query that will update the "Value" fields in Table1 with the data from Table2 when there is a match.
To avoid locking/blocking, or in transaction scope, we are trying make a common practice of writing coide for update commands in our all SPs based on primary key columns in where clause. I have a following scenario...
UPDATE [dbo].[TL_CST_Locker_Issuance] SET [isActive] = 0 WHERE LockerIssuanceId IN (SELECT LockerIssuanceId
[Code] ...
What is the better approach and should be followed to avoid locks and gain performance or best approach.
I have a query that simply slelcts the min value of a specified fieldfrom one table, I want to take that value to update a field inannother table, just can not figure it out.
How do I update a table of 600 records with varying amounts of the same branch names say, there are 60 records that are Atlanta etc.Based on the following query that retrieves the Branch Id. Select t1.Branch, t2.SCName, SCID from WWFE07BoothLeads As t1JOIN SMC_New_Products.dbo.SupportCenters As t2ON t2.SCName Like t1.Branch+'%'Update WWFE07BoothLeads Set BoothId = ?(1) Where Branch = ?(Atlanta)
I'm working with a table that I've created called Config which contains key/value pairs used to get and set site-wide settings. I'm now trying to create a web form which updates the table but I'm not sure how to create the most effective UPDATE query.
Table of course takes this form key | value --------------------------------- config_setting1 | value1 config_setting2 | value2
I'm working with a System.Collections.Specialized.StringDictionary Class object which contains all of the pairs from my webform... anybody have a creative way to build an UPDATE string using this object???
Thanks for any help and suggestions, ecolner@yahoo.com
I want to make a SP to update table Product with information I get from table Orderdetail.
Create Procedure UpdateVoorraad §OrderId (int) As Select ProductId, Tal From Orderdetail where OrderId = @OrderId
-- this query get info from table orderdetail : ProductId (integer) and Tal (smallint)
-- Tal = Number of Products
-- Here I want to loop through the query above
-- and for each record in the query I want to update
-- table Product.
Update Product Set Product.Voorraad = Product.Voorraad - Tal where ProductId = ProductId
To do this must I make a create a tempory table, store the query result in the table loop through the table and update table product, or can I try to create a function without a temporary table.
I am one very frustrated beginner. If it were not for wonderful information in this forum I would have taken early retirement by now!
Table contains information about new and departing computer and phone users in several departments which we support. This is an existing table which I'm trying to clean up. The essential part:
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[HelpDesk_NewUser]( [AutoNumber] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [SubmittedDate] [datetime] NULL, [FirstName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [LastName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [Department] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [StartDate] [datetime] NULL, [DepartDate] [datetime] NULL [RequestedBy] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [UpdatedBy] [varchar](16) NOT NULL, [CurrentStatus] [varchar](10) NOT NULL , [DateCurrentStatus] [datetime] NULL, [FormType] [varchar](10) NOT NULL, ) ON [PRIMARY]
There can be more than one record per FirstName, LastName. FormType can be N for new or D for departing. I want to do this for each record: Read the FormType and Department from the record with the most recent activity (SubmittedDate) for each user Convert Department to a 4 character department number Update CurrentStatus with (FormType concatenated with the 4 character dept number) in all records for that user.
I have created another table called UserMostRecent which contains the most recent record for each user.
I have written a query to do this by brute force (read a record, set local variables, update a record), but I would like learn a simpler way to do it. I don't understand the syntax of CASE because it seems to change depending on where it is used.
Here is what I have tried that does not work. Error is "Incorrect syntax near word CASE"
UPDATE HelpDesk_NewUser SET DateCurrentStatus = b.DateMostRecent, CurrentStatus = (b.FormType + a.Department CASE WHEN 'Roads Department' THEN '3000' WHEN 'Engineering and Survey Services' THEN '1900' WHEN 'Waste Management' THEN '8999' WHEN 'Kern Air Pollution Control District' THEN '9149' WHEN 'Environmental Health' THEN '4113' WHEN 'Building Inspection' THEN '2625' WHEN 'Animal Control' THEN '2760' WHEN 'Planning Department' THEN '2750' WHEN 'Community and Economic Development' THEN '5940' WHEN 'Resource Management Agency' THEN '2730' WHEN 'Code Compliance' THEN '2620' WHEN 'Roads Kern Regional Transit' THEN '8998' END) FROM HelpDesk_NewUser a JOIN UserMostRecent b ON (a.LastName = b.LastName and a.FirstName = b.FirstName)
I have added some SQL to an Access form which updates the dbo_BM_Map table when the user hits the Apply button. There is a temp table with various fields, two being "Chapter_No" and "Initial_Mapping_Complete" which the update is based on.
I want this update to only apply to chapters that only have one name in the "Initial_Mapping_Complete" column. If a chapter has more than one then the update should ignore it. The attached screengrab shows you. The update should ignore chapter 19 as there are two people (Jim and James) in the Initial_Mapping_Complete field. Here is my code.
pdate dbo_BM_Map inner Join Temp_Progression_Populate on dbo_BM_Map.Product_ID = Temp_Progression_Populate.Product_ID Set dbo_BM_Map.Initial_Mapping_Complete = Temp_Progression_Populate.Initial_Mapping_Complete Where dbo_BM_Map.Chapter_No = Temp_Progression_Populate.Chapter_No And Temp_Progression_Populate.Initial_Mapping_Complete in (Select count(Initial_Mapping_Complete), Chapter_No from Temp_Progression_Populate Group by Chapter_No Having Count(Initial_Mapping_Complete) = 1)
I have run into a perplexing issue with how to UPDATE some rows in my table correctly.I have a Appointment table which has Appointment Times and a Appointment Names. However the Name is only showing on the Appt start Time line. I need it to show for its duration. So for example in my DDL Morning Appt only shows on at 8:00 I need it to show one each line until the next Appt Starts and so on. In this case Morning Appt should show at 8:00,8:15, 8:30.

However I have one field that is date stampedas to which is the most current. How do I get the last date stamped record and update the other table?update group1 setaddress1 = c.address1address2 = c.address2city = c.citystate = c.statezipcode = c.zipcodecountry = c.countryfrom main c, group1 gwhere g.ssn = c.ssn and max(lastchanged)I know the above does not work but it is what I am try to do. Link ( GroupID int , MemberID int ) Member ( MemberID int , MemberName varchar(50), GroupID varchar(255) )
The Link table contains the records showing which Member is in which Group. One particular Member can be in multiple Groups and also a particular Group may have multiple Members.
The Member table contains the Member's ID, Member's Name, and a Group ID field (that will contains comma-separated Groups ID, showing in which Groups the particular Member is in).
We have the Link table ready, and the Member table' with first two fields is also ready. What we have to do now is to fill the GroupID field of the Member table, from the Link Table.
For instance,
Read all the GroupID field from the Link table against a MemberID, make a comma-separated string of the GroupID, then update the GroupID field of the corresponding Member in the Member table.
Please help me with a sql query or procedures that will do this job. I am using SQL SERVER 2000.

I'm trying to update (increment) Company.SumtotalLogons from CompanyUsers.NumberOfLogons where CompanyUsers.CompanyID = Company.CompanyID
I'd like to either write a formula (if it is even possible to fire a formula from one table update/insert to increment a field in another table), or a stored procedure that triggers an auto update/append into Company.SumTotalLogons
I know this is possible in access, so i'm wondering how to go about it in ms-sql?
I'm looking for a query I can use to alter table relationships. What I want to do in particular, is to set every relationship to cascade on update. Can anyone point me out to a solution? MSDN seems very vague in this subject.
I have created a table(T1) from select query result, that Select query is parameterised. Now I need to update the select query table(T1) based on the result every time.
Below is my Query:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[RPT_Cost_copy] SELECT MEII.*, SIMM.U_SP2DC, UPPER(SIMM.U_C3C2) AS GRP3,sb.cost, PREV.Z1, PREV.Z3, SB.Z2, SB.Z4,SIMM.U_C3DC1 AS FAM INTO T1 FROM (SELECT a.meu, a.mep2, SUM(a.mest) as excst FROM mei as A WHERE a.myar=@yr and a.mprd=@mth AND LTRIM(A.MCU) <> '' AND LTRIM(A.MRP2) <> ''
I want to update Flag column in second table based on the Adder names.
If the Applicatiion has atleast one AIX and Adder name is UDB then the flag would be True. If the Application has more the one AIX and Adder names are diferent then the flag would be null.
APpName OS Adder

I want to create index for hash table (#TEMPJOIN2) to reduce the update query run time. But I am getting "Warning!
The maximum key length is 900 bytes. The index 'R5IDX_TMP' has maximum length of 1013 bytes. For some combination of large values, the insert/update operation will fail". What is the right way to create index on temporary table.
Update query is running(without index) for 6 hours 30 minutes. My aim to reduce the run time by creating index.
And also I am not sure, whether creating index in more columns will create issue or not.
Attached the update query and index query.
CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [R5IDX_TMP] ON #TEMPJOIN2 ( [PART] ASC, [ORG] ASC, [SPLRNAME] ASC, [REPITEM] ASC, [RFQ] ASC,
Using SQL against a DB2 table the 'with' key word is used todynamically create a temporary table with an SQL statement that isretained for the duration of that SQL statement. What is the equivalent to the SQL 'with' using TSQL? If there is notone, what is the TSQL solution to creating a temporary table that isassociated with an SQL statement? Examples would be appreciated.Thank you!!

This is not permitted when thesubquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used asan expression.I need to update one colum with other column value. What is the correct query for this ?Thanks,Mani
I'm trying to put an expression into a view query column. I've already created a column which contains the results of a calculation in the form of an expression. What I don't know how to do is use comparison operators to return a boolean value for display. I'll give some examples of what I'm trying to do, using literal values just to simplify things...
So say I want to display the result of an expression in a view query column, as a boolean value (or BIT), as True or False. I've tried putting the following expressions into the column and none work:
4 < 5: Access converts this to the string '4 < 5' and it's just displayed as a string.
CAST( '4 < 5' AS BIT ): When run, the query displays the error 'Syntax error converting the varchar value '4 < 5' to a column of data type BIT.
Although I'm using Access 2003, It's just a front end for a SQL Server 2000 database. The actual SQL statement containing the latter SQL function is:
SELECT dbo.Tapes.No, dbo.Tapes.Status, dbo.Tapes.LastWrittenDate, dbo.Tapes.Pool, dbo.Tapes.Location, dbo.TapeJobs.No AS Expr1, dbo.TapeJobs.JobNo, dbo.TapeJobs.TapeNo, dbo.Jobs.No AS Expr2, dbo.Jobs.Date, dbo.Jobs.Successful, dbo.Jobs.RetentionRule, dbo.RetentionRules.No AS Expr3, dbo.RetentionRules.Name, dbo.RetentionRules.Description, dbo.RetentionRules.RetentionPeriod, dbo.RetentionRules.RetentionCycles, dbo.Jobs.Date + dbo.RetentionRules.RetentionPeriod AS AgedJob, CAST('4 < 5' AS BIT) AS Expr4 FROM dbo.RetentionRules INNER JOIN dbo.Jobs ON dbo.RetentionRules.No = dbo.Jobs.RetentionRule RIGHT OUTER JOIN dbo.Tapes RIGHT OUTER JOIN dbo.TapeJobs ON dbo.Tapes.No = dbo.TapeJobs.TapeNo ON dbo.Jobs.No = dbo.TapeJobs.JobNo
I'm new to SQL. I think the CAST function is the way forward, but I just don't know how to force it to resolve the expression '4 < 5'.
I was studying Common Table expression in Sql server 2005. I have written the code Declare @PictureArray as varchar(200) Set @PictureArray = ''; with UserProfile_CTE(UserPicture) As( select @PictureArray = @PictureArray + '~' + PictureName from UserPicture where UserProfileID = 1102 select @PictureArray ) select * from UserProfile_CTE
But I am getting the error Incorrect syntax near '=' I am getting the error in the lineselect @PictureArray = @PictureArray + '~' + PictureName from UserPicture where UserProfileID = 1102 But I don't know the reason for this, Kindly advice Regards Karan
My report has a number of tables. These table design is as [Total(numeric),Year(numeric),Month(varchar(15)]. Each table on report is populated based on individual tables in Mngt Studio.
My problem is.If table is empty, the table on report does not get populated/displayed.It is hidden. How do I return a message,Example {"No Value for table A"} instead and show the table in report only when the table has some value.
I have written an expression like this. But it just hides the table if its empty, and im not able to return a value "No Value"instead.
=IIF(Fields!Month.Value IS Nothing,"No Value for table A",False)
What is the SQL Server equivalent of DB2 common table expressions? Forexample, with gry(year, count) as(select floor(sem/10),count(distinct ssn)from gradesgroup by floor(sem/10))select year, sum(count) Head_Count from grygroup by yearhaving year >= 1980;N. ShamsundarUniversity of Houston
I have inserted a table in the layout. I want to create in the header of this table a field that sums up a set of values from a iif statement. So My expression is =sum(iif(Fields!aloc.value=2, Fields!balc.Value, 0)). What I'm trying to do is sum all the values where aloc=2. I Get an error saying The value expression for the textbox textbox134 uses an aggregate function on data of varying data types. Aggregate functions other than First, Last, Previous, Count, and CountDistinct can only aggregate data of a single data type. That data type of balc is Float. What am I doing wrong or what do I need to do to fix this? I have no schooling on Reporting Services or SQL. I've been learning as I go for the past 6 months.
I am getting an error from the case part of the select statement below which reads 'Incorrect Column Expression' then it quotes the case statement. All I am trying to do is convert and return the weight value to kilos if it was entered in pounds.
I am working with Excel, then within Excel I am using MS Query to query a database. I am trying to use the CAST function on a field with numbers (1,2 or 3 digits) so I can convert it to a text value with three digits, i.e. 1 would read 001, 12 would read 012, etc.
I am not using CAST in the design grid. Is this even possible?
I am modifying the underlying SQL code. Here is the line that is giving me trouble:
CAST(GL02GLF.GLF_SEQ_NUM as CHAR(3)) as “Sequence”
