Updateting DataSet To MSSQL With XML Datatype Field
Nov 16, 2006
We are trying to update a changed DataSet to at table in MSSQL server
The table have an XML field and that gets converted to System.String when we get from the DB when we try to save the dataset the XML field ind the table is set to NULL
How can this be, the DataSet can convert it to System.String when we SELECT it from the DB, but when we save, nothing happens and we get an empty field. Not even an SQL error...
=CountDistinct(IIF(Fields!Released_DT.Value = Fields!Date2.Value, Fields!Name.Value, Nothing)) Released_DT = a date - 09/03/2015 or 09/02/2015 Date2 = returns another date value in this case 09/03/2015
What I'm trying to do is: count distinct number of people (Fields!Name.Value) if the Relased_DT = Date2.My IIF statement is returning a zero value.
Hello, I'm having trouble extracting the datetime value of a datacolumn in order to compare it's value to another datetime. The error I get is "unable to cast object of type System.Data.DataColumn to type System.DateTime. I'm sure I'm just missing a step or a cast, but nothing has worked. I hope someone can help! Here's the code: protected void ddlRooms_SelectedIndexChanged(object sender, EventArgs e) { SqlCommand cmd; SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["EventBookingConnectionString"].ConnectionString); SqlDataAdapter da; DataSet ds; try { cmd = conn.CreateCommand(); cmd.CommandType = CommandType.Text; cmd.CommandText = "SELECT Events.ID as 'Event ID', Name as 'Event Name', Rooms.Room as 'Event Room', AttendeeList as 'Attendee List', EventDate as 'Event Date' from Events INNER JOIN Rooms on Events.Room=Rooms.ID"; ds = new DataSet(); da = new SqlDataAdapter(); da.SelectCommand = cmd; da.Fill(ds, "BookedRooms"); if (ds.Tables["BookedRooms"].Columns["Event Room"] != null) { foreach (DataRow row in ds.Tables[0].Rows) { string room = (string)row["Event Room"]; if (ddlRooms.SelectedItem.ToString() == room) { System.DateTime date = (System.DateTime)ds.Tables[0].Columns["Event Date"]; //HERE'S WHERE THE ERROR OCCURS if (Calendar1.SelectedDate == date) { lblBookedRooms.Visible = true; lblBookedRooms.Text = "I'm sorry, that room is booked for that day.<br />Please choose another day or a different room."; } } } } } catch (Exception ex) { lblResults.Text = ex.Message; } } Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help out! Here is the issue. I have ReadOnly Access to a database. All of the Columns are set to NVARCHAR(1000) by default. I cannot change them. I want to load the DataSet into memory and change the DataType of the columns from NVARCHAR(1000) to INT(4). The data is in integer (i.e. 4,5,123) format (but stored as a string), but is coming across as strings. The charting software I am using won't implicitly convert these Strings to Int or Double. How can I change an entire column to Int?
does anyone know if there is a way, or perhaps a custom toolbox control that is already developed that allows you to drag an entire dataset into a table, instead of pulling everything in field by field...?
Can anyone tell me how to calculate datatype conversion times in SQL Server 7? I have a varchar (15) field that I tried to convert to integer using the table design GUI in Enterprise Manager. The table holds about 72,000,000 records about 1k apiece in size.
It's been running for about an hour now with no seeable results. In Performance Monitor I don't see any page reads happening, so is this indicative that the process died? Enterprise Manager is no longer responsive - even if I open another session.
I'd like to know how long I can reasonably expect this conversion to take. Also, how can I abort this request safely if I want to?
I am storing xml in an xml datatype field in a table. But when I am generating physical file from the xml field, '&' in the xml field is getting converted into '&' in the physical file. But I want '&' to be intact.
Is there an AutoType Datatype for Date field. just like the Identity property for an ID field.
It increments by 1 for each new record.
The same way if i add a record to the table can it automatically put todays date or date and time for the field date created in my table.
The reason is i am uploading the record from xml file(Using SQLXMLBULKLOAD) so i dont have a chance to mention on the front end code or in the XSD file.
i write a small web application to save word files in sql server and i store it as an image datatype i need to do operation such as search within these files for any word
is there any One Can help me with that ???????????????????????????? Important
Hello experts, I want to create a table to store only time in a fileld. There is "DateTime" for my purpose but i dont want to save the Date part only the time part as "12:30:44 AM". I know i can select only time part from Datetime field but i want to save only time. Can anybody help me how can i create that kinda table ?
Hi everyone. I have a field that is image datatype. That table is included in a snapshot replication. When I try to update that field - on the publication server, which is the same as distributor server - if the image is too big (in size), an error message appears. When I try to update with images that has less size it works. If I take out the subscriptions, it works for every image size. Any ideas?
does anyone know a way, using native SQL, to store a result of a query in an image field of a certain table.
The case is we have a selfmade replication to communicate with several SQL servers in stores, this replication is over a telephone line. So we collect all the data using SQL statements and store them in a separate table as an image field. This is done know through a Delphi application that streams the resultset to a image field.
How to get the max length of numeric field in a DataSet? I have a DataSet bound to an Access database. Is it possible to get the maximum length of numeric field of a table in the DataSet? Many fields in the database tables have maximum length values set in ...
Hi, I've read conflicting articles on updating an ntext field in acolumn. My ntext field will exceed 8,000 characters (typically twice that size-- but just a text string). One article (I think from MicroSoft) said you could NOT use ntext inan UPDATE statement, but I've seen examples from other people usingit...but don't know if it's related to the size/characters issue. Is this true or not? Thanks very much...Kathy
Hello,I am trying to update the Image type field named as BlobData in sqlServer 2000. I capture the record in a data set to have the schema and try to update the BlobData field of type Image by assigning it a value of buffer as below. but my assignment seems to be wrong and generates an error saying Object reference not set. Code========================= Dim fileBuffer(contentLength) As Byte
Dim attachmentFile As HttpPostedFile = Me.fileUpload_fu.PostedFile
Catch ex As Exception Me.error_lbl.Text = ex.Message Return False Finally cn.Close() End Try ========================== Can anyone please help this one out. Cheers.Imran.
Ok I have upgraded my works database from a poorly designed Access database to a SQL database. The previous system allowed NULL values and duplicates to be inserted into a field that should NOT ALLOW NULL Values or duplicates. Therefore, this issue has now been moved across to my new system as I cannot set these constraints on the field that has multiple NULL values.
My solution would be to use a sequential operator, so whatever = NULL would be changed to a sequential number that us as administrators would know was a bogus number starting at something like = 999999900 counting up from that. There are only 250 records that would require updating.
To make things more interesting this field is not a integer type, its a Nvarchar type as its a Hardware ID. Both numerical and characters are require.
Is there a way to return the fields collection of a dataset using the Reporting services Web Service? I can get to the reports but not the datasets. Thank you in advance for any support you can provide.
I have this problem of inserting my query into database field. My code is as of below. The @AVERAGESCORE parameter is derived from Dim averagescore As Single = (122 * 1 + 159 * 2 + 18 * 3 + 3 * 4 + 0 * 5) / (122 + 159 + 18 + 3 + 0) and the value returned is (averagescore.toString("0.00")) However, I have error inserting the averagescore variable into a field of datatype float during the transaction. I have no problems when using non transactional sql insert methods. What could be the problem? Try Dim i As Integer For i = 0 To arraySql.Count - 1 myCommand = New SqlCommand Dim consolidatedobjitem As ConsolidatedObjItem = arraySql(i) myCommand.CommandText = sqlStr myCommand.Connection = myConnection myCommand.Transaction = myTrans With myCommand.Parameters
End With myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() Next myTrans.Commit() myConnection.Close() Catch ex As Exception Console.Write(ex.Message) myTrans.Rollback() myConnection.Close() End Try
I'm trying to convert a column in my source table of datatype varchar(6) to a column of datatype int in my destination. I tried using the Derived Column/Data Conversion transformations but none of them worked. So, I tried using the following C# (credits to the original poster) and getting an error during compilation.
Note: "MyCol" is the Input Column I've specified in the Script Component and "CleanCol" is the Output column I've specified as datatype [DT_I4].
public override void Input0_ProcessInputRow(Input0Buffer Row) { int colOut = 0; if (!Int32.TryParse(Row.MyCol, out colOut)) { Row.CleanCol_IsNull = true; } else { Row.CleanCol = colOut; } }
The best overloaded method match for 'int.TryParse(string, out int)' has some invalid arguments
The other expression I've tried was:
ISNULL(MyCol) ? (dt_i4)"" : (dt_i4)MyCol
From the above code, you might have understood that the source field has some blank records as well in the MyCol field.
What is the best possible way to do the conversion from a String to Int or fixing the error from the above.
I want to insert a value which has the UTF-8 encoding into a field of the database which has the "text" data Type but it saves like this : " ?????????????? "
I would be thankful if u tell me how should I save it ? here is the SqlComand I wrote :

I have a table adapter for one of my SQL2005 tables, and in two different fields I accept a date time. Now 99% of the times, new rows to this table will be filled out using DateTIme.Now(), as a Time Stamp is what I'm going for.
Here is the line of code in question...cops_current_data_adapter.Insert(ProductOrder, Convert.ToInt16(Session["StationId"].ToString()), PartNumber, DateTime. Now, DateTime. Now, Convert.ToInt16(qty), 0); The second DateTime. Now is the one that can be null, and it's throwing a formatting error everytime I try and drop it in there. It's a FormatException, and there's not much more to the example except unhelpful tips like be careful when conveting a string to a dateTime, which I'm not doing. Needless to say for the code to compile, and then throw a Format error at runtime is a bit frustraiting. Any suggestions would be most appreciated
