Updating Local Data On Device From Sql Server, Via Webservice
Dec 12, 2006
I want to update data on the device which has a sql server mobile database.
the main database is sql server.
I use web services to enable the mobile application to access the server.
Can anyone recommend a way of updating the data on the device without using replication? I basically want to read a dataset from the server via webservice and put this in to local db - but not row by row as too many records.
hi i have developed asp.net application which calls web service of localsystem. it also contains logic for interaction with database. we are also creating connection string through coding not from web.config. i want to debug stored procedure which is called by webmethod. then pls suggess me how can i debug this stored procedure from asp.net which is called in local webservice??? if any one have solve pls help... atul
I developed a mobile application PDA using the Compact Framework 2.0. And using typed datasets
I have also developed a web service. When the PDA is connected to the Internet it can access the web service and get all the data that is in the sql database. The user can add new records, update existing records, and delete them. So the web service acts like a middle man.
In the PDA the data is filled using typed datasets.
However, the customer now wants to be able to interact with there data on the PDA, currently they have to be connected to the Internet. But if there is no internet connection, then they will still like to add, update, and delete the records. Then once they have a connection, all these would be updates with the sql database.

This server has a Raid 5 Disk Array partitioned into three Logic Drives C:, S:, L:. Not sure, why the server was configured this way. If I attach the database with the data and log files on the same logical drive, the DB attaches successfully. When I try to put the data and log files on separate logical drives, it fails. Issue seems to be with the drive partitioning. Any Ideas?
I'm currently trying to figure out a good way to keep my Local and Remote Databases in sync. Whenever I make changes to one or the other I spend a lot of time manually adjusting the other to match. I want to be able to set up an update page that accesses my Remote database and Local database and Updates the two accordingly.
I really don't know where to start with this one. I'm not sure at all as to how to simultaneously connect to two different databases, on two different servers, and Udate from one another. Does anyone know any good articles to get me started?
This is my first time to deploy an asp.net2 web site. Everything is working fine on my local computer but when i published the web site on a remote computer i get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to failure in retrieving the user's local application data path. Please make sure the user has a local user profile on the computer. The connection will be closed" (only in pages that try to access the database) Help pleaseee
I am very new to SQL Server 2005. I have created a package to load data from a flat delimited file to a database table. The initial load has worked. However, in the future, I will have flat files used to update the table. Some of the records will need to be inserted and some will need to update existing rows. I am trying to do this from SSIS. However, I am very lost as to how to do this.
I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.
Hi all, Please forgive me, but I'm new to MS SQL Server and I have few questions. First of all I'd like to know if there is a way to update one table with the data from another. Let's say I have 2 tables. TableA table contains the voucher numbers; TableB table contains the image numbers. Is there a way to merge Voucher numbers from TableA table to Image numbers in TableB table if we assume that there is a primary key Voucher Number in both tables? If yes- what would be the query structure for that? Please forgive me if you think that this question is silly, I have to say I'm not just new to SQL I'm VERY new to it Thank you in advance.
We have a 64-bit VM server running SQL Server 2005. The SQL Server on this particular VM server has 6 local instances installed. On the Management Studio logon screen I can type the full name of the local instance and connect to it, however if I press the drop down in the Server name field, choose Browse and select the Local Servers tab there is nothing listed under Database Engines.
Any idea why the 6 local instances don't show up under Database Engines? This is preventing me from installing a vendor application because their installer looks for local SQL Server instances on this server, but if SQL Server won't even show the local instances then the installer doesn't see them either.
I have a database on a sql server 2005, and I would like to migrate data from sql server 2005 to local Pocket PC. How can I create a database on local Pocket PC and how to migrate the data from sql server 2005 to local Pocket PC? The operating system on Pocket PC is Microsoft® Windows Mobile„¢ 2003 Second Edition. Thanks in advance.
I have a database in development in SQL Server 6.5 that needs to be occasionally deleted and rebuilt from a script when table structures are changed. I found that when very complex queries were performed, the 2 MB default size of tempdb filled up and returned errors, so I went to the Enterprise Manager to expand tempdb, learned that I had to first expand a device to expand tempdb into, and foolishly chose to expand tempdb into the same device space used by my application, instead of into one of the system databases. Now when I try to delete the device in preparation for its rebuild, the Enterprise Manager responds with an error message saying the device can't be deleted because it contains system tables. Is there any way to get the expanded portion of tempdb out of my application device so that the device can be deleted, without reinstalling SQL Server?
We have oracle linked server created on one of the sql server 2008 standard , we are fetching data from oracle and updating some records in sql server . Previously its working fine but we are suddenly facing below issue.
Below error occurred during process .
OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "<linkedservername>" returned message "". Msg 7346, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot get the data of the row from the OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "<linked server name>".
Using server 2012 on local machine, I created an SSIS package that will execute in integrated services and Visual Studio solution but will not work when creating a job. Other solutions work well except when exporting data. The program pulls data from query and exports into .csv file. The messages I get are -
Data flow task 1:error:destination- Stage.csv failed the pre-execute phase and returned code 0xC020200E and Data flow task 1:error:Cannot open the datafile "pathStage.csv".

I am trying to use a new Excel microsoft add-in using SQL server 2005. I installed the 180 day trial version of SQL Server 2005 on my local machine and according to the instructions it was suppose to be very easy to connect the excel add in to SQL. I am receiving an error message which I cannot find a resolution to using the readme file and wonder if you can help.
ERROR MESSAGE Unable to connect to server 'localhost'. Please make sure user 'ARTIMUS' has at least read permission to some database on the server.
I'm currently running a SQL Server 2005 setup (or so I believe) to use Windows Authentication. When I load Management Studio, the following popup box appears:
Server Type (greyed out): Database Engine
Server Name: Thor
Authentication: Wndows Authentication
U/N and P/W: greyed out
I can connect to my databases using PHP by specifying 'Thor' as my DB host, the DB name and then the username and password of a user I created.
The problem is that I cannot connect to my local server using EMS Data Export 2005 for SQL Server. I can use it to connect to a remote SQL DB on our web server but if I try to connect locally, it generates an error saying that the 'SQL Server does not exist or access denied'.
Does anyone have any experience with connecting to a local SQL server? I'm assuming that I need to setup my server to allow for external connections or something but I'm in the dark on the matter.
I just try to implement the 3 tire architacture. So, I developed the one web project for web ui and one web service and one dall project in one solution.
On dll project put the bll, connect to sql server and return the result set to web service. Form web service, get the result from dll and transfer to web ui.
When I call class from dll, i just overrid the connection string.
Actually it's wrok properly in my development pc and in my local webserver. As our usual, when i publish to real web server i got the following error.
Server was unable to process request. ---> An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) Anybody plz help and direct how should i fixed this problem.
I am facing a problem in connecting to the local database with server name as (local).
I have installed SQL Server 2005 in my machine. When I try to connect to the SQL server with the server name as SUNILKUMAR I am able to connect but when I try to connect to the same server with the server name as (local) I am not able to connect. SUNILKUMAR is my machine name and SQL server is running locally.
if anyone can help me what is the problem in this case it is highly appriciated.
I have my first small SQl Server 2005 database developed on my localserver and I have also its equivalent as an online database.I wish to update the local database (using and asp.net interface) andthen to upload the data (at least the amended data, but given thesmall size all data should be no trouble) to the online database.I think replication is the straight answer but I have no experience ofthis and I am wondering what else I might use which might be lesscomplicated. One solution is DTS (using SQL 2000 terms) but i am notsure if I can set this up (1) to overwrite existing tables and (2) notto seemingly remove identity attributes from fields set as identities.I know there are other possibilities but I would be glad of advice asto the likely best method for a small database updated perhaps onceweekly or at less frequent intervals,Best wishes, John Morgan
How do I insert data that I have collected in a local database onto a table on my online ie hosted database which is on a different server?
At the moment I am just uploading all the data to the hosted DB but this is wasting bandwith as only a small percentage of data is actually selected and used.
I thought that if i used a local DB and then update the table on my hosted DB this would be much more efficient, but I am not sure how to write the SQL code to do this!
I have tempdb data device size default 2 MB, which has completely filled up. I am trying to expand data device to it. I created new device tempdb_data_ext (250 MB) and tried to expand tempdb data device. But everytime I do it, it ends up adding space to tempdb log device. How can I expand tempdb data device?
My webservice is suppoed to insert a row into my SQL server database. Al columns are varchar(String). When we insert with digits everything is ok, but when we try letters as parameters i get this error message:
"An unhandled exception of type 'System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException' occurred in system.web.services.dll
Additional information: Server was unable to process request. --> The name 'Bob' is not permitted in this context. Only constants, expressions, or variables allowed here. Column names are not permitted."
I have a webservice set up on the same box where my SSIS packages sit at. I have an ASP.net app which calls the webservice. The webservice in turn invokes the ssis package and , I run it on file system.
i keep getting this error

I tried to set up the impersonation on both the asp.net 2.0 config and web.config .. but the problem is stil haunting me .. any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I have created and deployed my first report. It renders fine for me and the other database admin. When others attempt to view it, we get the error
Query execution failed for data set 'periods'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand), For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Initially, We created a local group on the machine that hosts both the database and webserver and added the individuals to that group. Then, within SRS Report manager, we added that group to the Browswer role of the report. The error message was slightly different, in that it couldn't even open the Datasource.
We then added an individual to the database as dbreader, and got the above message. It apprently is starting to render, and when it encounters the first query (dataset "periods", which populates a drop down list for a parameter), it chokes. BTW, the Periods dataset executes a stored procedure dbo.Period_List that has no parameters. It returns a list of reporting periods.
I could not figure out how to "enable remote errors" or find an error log on the server. The C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFiles Log files did not appear to record any errors.
