I've got an issue - A client required SQL 2005 for a new CRM package. They run SBS 2003 standard R2, so I ordered the upgrade to premium. No worries, but the developer needed SQL before the package arrived, so we installed the eval version, and then applied SP2 because this was needed for the CRM package.
Now the full version has arrived. I tried running setup both with and without SKUUPGRADE=1 and neither way will let me upgrade, stating that a later version is already in use.
I do have a good backup of the databases (I also have an entire image-based backup as well) but I don't want a disaster. My question:
Do I uninstall SP2 then upgrade to the RTM version of SQL2005 workgroup edition (the one with SBS2003 premium) or is there some other trickery required?
I'd prefer to get a smooth upgrade rather than ending up in a situation where I'd have to restore a heap of things.
We are currently running with Eval 120day limit SQL6.5 SP4 and now wish to upgrade to the full version. We have now purchased the full version but whenever we try to "upgrade" the server all we get told is that we should "Use control panel to add or remove components" or we are told that we should "use service pack 3 to update". I can only assume that this message is refering to Add/Remove programs in the control panel but there is no reference to SQL here.
Any ideas how we can upgrade to the full legal version without loosing our SMS data?
I've downloaded the SQL Server 2005 VHD Evaluation from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7B243252-ACB7-451B-822B-DF639443AEAF&displaylang=en and it's running in evaluation mode. I have a valid key and I've activated windows and upgraded to SP2, but I still get an 'about windows' dialog on startup and a watermark on the desktop. Is there any way tp upgrade to the full version?
I did all the stuff necessary for the upgrading (the Upgrade Advisor didn't say anything special), but the Setup says the following:
" Name: Microsoft SQL Server 7.00.1063 Cause: The update is blocked. You can obtain more informations in the online help "Versions- and editionsupdates".
Editions problem: The update is blocked because of rules for the editions update. "
Is it possible that an upgrade is not possible with the evaluation edition? Or can there be another cause?
I have a database running on what transpires to be an evaluation copy of SQL 6.5 which has expired. How can I install a full licenced copy of 6.5 whilst retaining databases, users etc. Note:when starting the SQL server service it immediately shuts down due to the eval expiry. Any help is greatly appreciated.
First question: I have sql server 2005 enterprise eval edition installed. is there a query, command or tool can tell me the exact expiration date? I understand it is 180 day but I still want some way to query the exact date.
Second question: does sql server log any warning message before eval expires?
I have been running SQL Server 2005 Express with the Management Studio Express. I just downloaded and installed the Eval (Trial) version of SQL Server 2005 but have not been able to get it working. Here are a couple of questions:1. Is there a potential confict with having both versions on my machine. I don't want to uninstall express since I may have to do back to it in 180 days.2. Is there a program comparable to the Management Studio for the Eval version of SQL Server 2005?3. How do I access the Eval version? Hello,I am having trouble installing Evaluation copy of SQL Server on mynotebook, which has XP, P4 processor,1G Ram, and 14 G harddisk space.After I run the Setup.exe, I get the files files extracted in theSQLEVAL directory.As per the instruction, I need to run Autorun.exe file. For somereason, when I try to run this file, a new windows pops up, which isblank black screen with cursor flying around in the window. Just installed SQL Server 2005 Eval version and Management Studio does not display any Import/Export functions to load data into tables of an existing database. I thought that this feature was turned off only in Management Studio Express.
I have been using the 180 day evaluation version of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition and I have my license key now for the purchased version. I read on the Microsoft site I am able to upgrade to the non-trial version without uninstalling the eval version. But for Standars Edition Microsoft states:
"... If upgrading to the fully licensed version of SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition, Workgroup Edition, or Developer Edition, it is recommended that you uninstall the 180-day trial version of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition before installing the fully licensed version of the other editions..."
Is there anyway out where I don't need to uninstall my eval database server? If it is necessary to uninstall eval version, then what is the best way to preserve all my current databases?

Have the 2005 Enterprise Evaluation version. Trying to import data from a flat file to DB table. Tried running wizard from designer studio and from creating a data flow in SBIDS
Either way I am able to setup and start excution and then bombs with a fatal error.

Asks to Debug or close.. Tried installing on 2 other machines and having same issue. Tried several different data files and tables same issue.

I have the trial version of SQL Server 2005 installed and have setup a couple of databases. This trial version will expire in another few weeks. I recently purchased a copy of the software and want to install it. Will I lose my databases, user info, etc? How do I go about installing without losing anything?
Is there any difficulties I should be aware of? I'm not running DTS and I think my DB is relatively simple. I've googled and not found anything that sticks out as a problem.

Hi , We are using the a 4 CPU SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition for our application , We want to migrate to SQL2005 with the compatibility level downgraded to SQL2000. If we go for the SQL2005 Standard edition is there any problem? We are not using the Failover clustering in our server.
I am about to let users upgrade their SQL Express installations to Standard Edition. They will all run the upgrade program by a command line argument that I will supply along with a setup.ini that I will supply. Is it possible by simple means "hack" the setup.ini file in order to only allow upgrade to x86 Standard Edition? We have DVDs with all kinds of editions for both x86 and 64-bit and I would not want the users to accidentally upgrade to Enterprise Edition or a 64-bit Standard edition.
Is this possible to attain by simply means or do I have to upgrade all clients myself?
Will it be possible to do an in-place upgrade from SQL 2000 Server Enterprise SP4 32 bit running on top of 64 bit Windows 2003 Enterprise , clustered, to SQL 2005 Enterprise 64 bit? The 32 bit SQL 2000 to 64 bit SQL 2005 in place upgrade seems questionable to me... Anybody tried anything like this?
I just received my licensed disks for upgrading my SQL Server 2005 Evaluation version to a fully licensed version. Do I simply run the two disks over top of the evaluation version or is it a little bit more complicated? Any input would be greatly appreciated. A little new to SQL.
I found sql2005 Enterprise cannot be installed under Simplied Chinese win 2003, the only thing i suspect is that win2003 is an envaluation copy with netframework 2.0 be installed.
I guess this is likely a stupid question, but I have no time for pride riht now...
I installed the evaluation version of SQL Server 7.0 and then installed the full version over top of the evaluation version once I received it.
My problem is that now SQL Server is telling me that the evaluation period has expired! How do I get around this? I assumed that installing a full purchased version would "convert" my installation of the evaluation version to a full version, but it hasn't. Hi, After publishing my ASP.NET application from my local development machine to a server, I cannot get it to attach the database file to the SQL Server instance. The SQL Server is full version 2005. The error I receive is: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. at the moment I have the following problem: We have installed a version of the MSDE 2000 Sp3 with our software since 2005. Now we install SQL Server Express 2005 in order to use the latest version and to be compatible with Vista. We have never had any problems with the MSDE, so it was no problem that we installed the german version (by mistake) because there never was any output at installation time. When we now upgrade the existing MSDE installing the new version of our software, there are often problems and there are error messages, unfortunately in german, which cannot be read by most of our international users.
The problem is, that there seems to be no possibility to upgrade the existing (german) MSDE with the english version of SQL Server Express 2005. My question is, if it is possible to upgrade the german MSDE to the english SQL Server 2005 to enable our international users to read the error messages at installation time in english?

It is faster than thedesktop application (written in VFP).1. Can I get the same results using MS SQL Express Advanced and Access forthe internet version if used with .net?2. Are the select statements limited in power, accuracy, size, etc. for MSSQL Express Advanced when compared to SQL?3. If Access will perform poorly, can VFP be used instead with .net? SQL Server 2005 full version is installed on a server computer. I installed MS VS 2005 Express edition on the server. As VS 2005 Express edition can only access to SQL Server 2005 Express edition, so a SQL Server 2005 Express edition has to be installed on the server. I wonder if both SQL Server 2005 full version and Express edition can be installed in the same computer.
I installed the evaluation copy remotely and wish to register the product by entering its product key, would that possible since I don't have the cd in the box.
I'm trying to install the common components for SQL 2005 on a server that already has Reporting Services 2005 installed on it. It keeps comng up with an error: "To change an existing instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to a different edition of SQL Server 2005, you must run SQL Server 2005 Setup from the command prompt and include the SKUUPGRADE=1 parameter."
The Reporting Services install has had SP2 applied to it, would that be what is messing up the install?
I have very little experience with SQL so any info would be helpful.
