The goalis to keep the user face the same (ms access) and put all of the tables ontoa SQL Server 2005 BE, and yet make those databases accessible to open/viewthrough Ms Sharepoint. What is the simple (properties) way to grab all of those db's = 20 and uploadto server? With out having to write code.Pull all db's over to SQL then store the Ms Access databases on Sharepointwhere the user face remains the same and the tables are on the server and thedb's are accessible now through the company Intranet.--Message posted via http://www.sqlmonster.com

Memo Data Type Import Error While Importing Data From Access File Into SQl Server 2005

Could you please let me know what is the reason?

I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.

Please help me to understans this issue correctly?

How Do I Upload To And Download From A Shared SQL Server 2005 Database?

Dec 13, 2006

My hosting gives me ASP.NET 2.0 and a shared SQL Server 2005 package.
I have Visual Studio 2005 on my machine - which installs SQL Server 2005 Express. I have also installed SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express.
I wish to develop my database locally (mdf file) as I won't always have internet access (and therefore can't always work directly with the remote shared database).
My question is, how do I upload my database info from my local machine to my remote shared database?
Also I shall wish to download my remote database to my local machine in order to work on the database (and then be able to re-upload it) sometimes.
Please can somebody tell me how I can do this?
Will SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express permit me to do this and if so how?
If I need the full version of SQL Server 2005 Management Studio then I do have SQL Server 2005 and this install with it (but it all looks a bit complicated to install for me).
Many thanks for all help given,
Graham

Very Slow Data Access On SQL Server 2005?

Jul 5, 2006

Hi

Here is the brief to my problemWe had our database on SQL Server 2000 and Windows 2000.This machine
had 2gb of RAM and dual Penitum 3 processors and about 25-30 users were
connected all the time. The size of database is around 2 gb. Even on this setup
rate of data retrival was good, never had any issues. We moved to SQL Server 2005 and Windows 2003. This machines has
2 Pentium Xeon 3.4 processors and 2 stick of KINGSTON 1024 MB 333
MHZ DDR DIMM ECC CL2.5 DUAL RANK X4 INTEL. The rate of data
retrival is awful and its very slow. It using about 1.7 to 1.9 gb of RAM all the
time. Page File usage is about 2.07 gb and Virtual Usage is about 1.7gb.I dont quiet understand why is it so slow to get data. We use bespoke software,
so nothing has changed there. Hardware specification of our server is far more better then the recommended
system requirement for SQL Server 2005.Am i missing something out or i havent set up the SQL Server properly? Any help would really be appreciated.Mits

Import Data From Access 2003 To SQL Server 2005 Via T SQL ?

Oct 5, 2007

I have a customer using a web app where the data is drawn from a database in SQL Server 2005.

In addition to its normal tables, the database has two lookup tables which are deleted, recreated, and repopulated once a week. The data for these two tables comes from two queries in an Access database which essentially turn many related tables into two flat tables.

I know this can be done with SSIS, I've done it, I suppose it could be done witth SSMA for Access, but could this operation be done with a stored prodecure ? Most steps would not be a problems. They would be:

- Drop the two tables in SQL Server (no problem)
- Recreate them (no problem, maybe better to just delete all existing records, either way)

- Connect to the query in the Access database (here is where I have questions)
- Simply do an INSERT from the Access query to the SQL table.

So my question is whether we can connect to an Acess query from a stored proc, I suppose using ODBC.

Can this be done? If so how? Are there any papers on this topic?

Msny thanks,
Mike Thomas

SQL Server 2005 Security Setup For ASP.Net Web Application Data Access - HELP!

Nov 17, 2007

Here is my situation: I am creating a database driven ASP.Net web application that will be used over the internet. My ASP.Net application connects to my SQL server 2005 database/server by using a SQL server login. I am using the DPAPI API to encrypt my connection stings with a hidden entropy value for extra security. I am using the SQL login for obvious reasons, as my users will not have a windows login.

What I am trying to do: I want to limit this SQL login account to be able to just run/execute stored procedures and NOT access the tables or views directly. In my ASP.Net application I am using the MS applications data block, and I am using stored procedures for every single database access action. There is no inline SQL being executed from my web application.

What I have tried so far:

I created a new schema and made the above SQL login account owner of this schema. I then granted "Execute" permissions to the SQL login and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

I created an database role with "Execute" only permissions and DENY permissions to all other permissions.

What Happened: In BOTH of the above scenarios I tested a direct SQL statement against one of my tables, from my ASP.Net application and I was able retrieve data back, NOT GOOD, exactly what I am trying to STOP.

If someone could give me (Step-by-Step) guide on how to setup the situation I am looking for, I would be very grateful!

Thanks to all that help!

Sending Uploaded Image To Data Access Class When Storing Image In SQL Server 2005

Apr 20, 2007

I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.

2. I can not find where the phsyical location of my files (such as tables or stored procedures) from my (mycomputername)sqlexpress.(databasename).dbo database. Anyone can help? thank you!

Data Access :: Server Rejected The Connection - Access To Selected Database Has Been Denied

I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.

But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013.  The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.

I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

Multi-user Access Through A Data-access Layer/remoting Server

Oct 30, 2007

Hi guys,

I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time.
I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:

- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server.
Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines??
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE

- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server?
Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE

Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways

Thanks,
CP

Trying To Access SQL SERVER 2005 With Access 2003

I am trying to connect through ODBC connectivity, but it will not allow me to do so. I have investigated this matter. It leads me back to the server, because as I was configuring my client side database. It kept asking for the DSN(datasource name), but I was unable to choose one because there wasn't one to choose. Which is my current dilemma, How can I do this and have it available to choose from the server to satisfy the Access database?

I went to the domain where the software resides but I don't know what steps to take? I also found an interesting piece on microsoft about Kerberos, but I can't follow along according to the instructions it has. I have Access 2003 & SQL SERVER 2005, HELP...!

Basically, this is right off the heels of the install. I setup the server without the connectivity, but it is running the current configuration.

3. i have to write a csv file with the results of above two queries. filename has to be in the given format.
4. This job has to run daily and upload file with latest data.

For the first time, it is uploading files correctly. But next time onwards, it is uploading the same contents. I have used global variables to store the query output value (RowSet) and used ActiveX Script to read the variable and write to a file.
