Passing Parameters To Action Stored Procedures Using ADO, In Access Project

Jul 20, 2005

There is a form in an Access Project (.adp, Access front end with SQLServer) for entering data into a table for temporary storing. Then, byclicking a botton, several action stored procedures (update, append) shouldbe activated in order to transfer data to other tables.I tried to avoid any coding in VB, as I am not a professional, but I havefound a statement in an article, that, unlike select queries, form's InputProperty can't be used for action queries. Therefore, parameters can bepassed to action stored procedure only by using ADO through VB.As I'm not very familiar with VB, I had to search in literature.So, this is a solution based on creating Parameter object in ADO and thenappending values to Parameter collection.Please, consider the following procedure I created for passing parametersfrom form's control objects (Text boxes) to a stored procedureDTKB_MB_UPDATE:Private Sub Command73_Click()Dim cmd As ADODB.CommandSet cmd = New ADODB.Commandcmd.ActiveConnection = CurrentProject.Connectioncmd.CommandText = "DTKB_MB_UPDATE"cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProcDim par As ADODB.ParameterSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@DATE", adDBTimeStamp, adParamInput)cmd.Parameters.Append parSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@BATCH_NUMBER", adVarWChar, adParamInput, 50)cmd.Parameters.Append parSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@STATUS", adVarWChar, adParamInput, 50)cmd.Parameters.Append parSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@DEPARTMENT", adVarWChar, adParamInput, 50)cmd.Parameters.Append parSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@PRODUCTION", adVarWChar, adParamInput, 50)cmd.Parameters.Append parSet par = cmd.CreateParameter("@SAMPLING_TYPE", adVarWChar, adParamInput,50)cmd.Parameters.Append parcmd.Parameters("@DATE") = Me.DATEcmd.Parameters("@BATCH_NUMBER") = Me.BATCH_NUMBERcmd.Parameters("@STATUS") = Me.STATUScmd.Parameters("@DEPARTMENT") = Me.DEPARTMENTcmd.Parameters("@PRODUCTION") = Me.PRODUCTIONcmd.Parameters("@SAMPLING_TYPE") = Me.SAMPLING_TYPEcmd.ExecuteSet cmd = NothingEnd SubUnfortunately, when clicking on the botton, the following error apears:"Run-time error'-2147217913 (80040e07)':Syntax error converting datetimefrom character string."Obviously, there is some problem regarding parameter @DATE. In SQL Server itis datetime, on the form's onbound text box it is short date (dd.mm.yyyy)data type. I have found in literature that in ADO it should beadDBTimeStamp.So, what is the problem ?Greetings,Zlatko

Passing Parameters To AS400 Query

Dec 5, 2007

Hello,

I'm using

IBM DB2 UDB for iSeries IBMDA400 OLE DB Provider
to extract data from AS400 and copy them to SQLServer2005. It's my first experience with exptracting data from AS400.

I need to pass in SSIS a parameter to the extract query like
SELECT dtses
FROM oslglf3.flp016
WHERE dtses > ?

I'm naming the parameter in the mapping as 1 but geetting an error
[as400 [1]] Error: The SQL command requires a parameter named ""00001"", which is not found in the parameter mapping.

I have tried 00001, '00001', ("00001" is not accepted from SSIS) but getting still this error.

A query like
SELECT dtses
FROM oslglf3.flp016
WHERE dtses > '1071205'
works OK.

Can anybody help me ?

Is There A Way To Loop Over Report Parameters, And Format Them Before Passing Them Onto The Query

Nov 13, 2007

Good morning all,

I have a report which is getting its parameters from an ASP.net page. My ASP developer wants to send in simple values, such as the list 1,2,3,4 for a parameter. However my report needs that list to look like [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[1], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[2], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[3], [CD RSRC].[RSRC].&[4].

Is there any way, on the report services side, to capture an incoming report parameter, parse it, loop over the parsed values and format them?

I don't think there is, but I wanted to check before I go back to the developer and tell him he has to send in tuple lists.

Thanks,
Kathryn

Passing Value From A Access Form To A Query

Jun 23, 2006

Frustration has gotten the best of me on this one. Can anyone help?
I need to pass the current value in an Access Data Project (back-end is MS SQL) text field to the where condition in an SQL using VBA. This is what I have, but does not work.

Private Sub Command44_Click()
Me.SS.SetFocus
Dim strSQL As String
Dim strSSecurity As String
strSSecurity = Me.SS
strSQL = "Update Employees Set employees.PositionID = '',employees.jobcode = '' Where employees.ss = strSSecurity"
DoCmd.RunSQL strSQL
End Sub

It is supposed to take the current Social Security number from the form and match it against the employees table. Once it finds the matching record it should update the PositionID and JobCode fields to '' (empty string)
But it doesn't
Anyone with any ideas?
Thanks

Passing Parameter Query From SQL Function To Access Project Report

May 20, 2006

I can pass a parameter from an Access Query to an Access Report (MDB) by entering [Select Date] in the Query criteria and by placing an unbound control with a control source =[Select Date] on the report. I can't get this to work from a SQL Function Criteria to an unbound control on the Access Data Project Report. In the Function Criteria, I enter @SelectDate. In the Report control, I enter @SelectDate and it gives me an 'Invalide Column Name' error. Any idea how I can pass a parameter from a SQL Function to an ADP report?

THANKS!

p.s. I tried searching for other postings on this without any luck.

Hello everybody I need to a solution to my problem asap.
My problem is that i have a sql server 2005 script which is working fine and returning me the correct query. However the same script in access does not return the required query.
The Sql server script is as follows:

UPDATE Transactions
SET Transactions.EndProductDescription = TB.EndDescription
FROM Transactions INNER JOIN
(SELECT Distinct EndDescription, ProdBatchNo
FROM
((SELECT EndProductCode
FROM EndProduct
WHERE (Product1 IN
(SELECT ProductCode
FROM Transactions
WHERE (ProdBatchNo = '06122007/000002')))) AS TB1 INNER JOIN
(SELECT EndProductCode
FROM EndProduct
WHERE (Product2 IN
(SELECT ProductCode
FROM Transactions
WHERE (ProdBatchNo = '06122007/000002')))) AS TB2 ON TB1.EndProductCode = TB2.EndProductCode) INNER JOIN

So when i put this query in access same as it is i do not obtain the required results. Can someone please help me urgently on converting the above sql script into access query?

Report On Access Database Using Parameters In Query

Nov 16, 2007

Hi all,

I am trying to create a report against an Access 2003 database using the provider as follows: "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;"

Simple reports with no parameters are fine (e.g. using a text query of 'Select * from BERs'

But how do I pass in a report parameter to limit the results coming back ? I have only used stored procs in the past which work fine but how to achieved this using Access has me stumped.

An example query I need would be 'Select * from BERs WHERE Year = [Year?]'

Anyone got any pointers ?

Thanks in advance

Passing Parameters In TableAdapter

Jul 28, 2006

A little new to ASP.NET pages, and I'm trying to pass some parameters to a SQL 2000 Server using a TableAdapter, code is as follows:
------
TestTableAdapters.test_ModemsTableAdapter modemsAdapter = new TestTableAdapters.test_ModemsTableAdapter();
// Add a new modem
modemsAdapter.InsertModem(frmRDate, frmModem_ID, frmProvisioning, strDecESN );
--------
And the error I get when loading the ASP.NET page is as follows:
Compiler Error Message: CS1502: The best overloaded method match for 'TestTableAdapters.test_ModemsTableAdapter.InsertModem(System.DateTime?, string, string, string)' has some invalid arguments
---------------
Now I realized the four strings that I am trying to pass to the server refer to ID's on Textboxes on the web page. Not sure if that might be the problem for databinding... ? Or is it my statement for the adapter?

If I leave the quotes off and only use 1 value like b2cf594d-908b-4c0c-a67f-6364899a4d42 it works.How can I use multiple guids as an IN parameter like 'b2cf594d-908b-4c0c-a67f-6364899a4d42', '2e0b3472-d3f0-4a54-94af-bfc0a99525d9'?

Passing Parameters Dynamically

Mar 20, 2008

Hi,

I have a requirement to load tables in the database from files on a shared server (lets say 50 tables from 50 files). I do not want to hardocde the file path anywhere in the package since this would mean changing 50 packages everytime the path changes (say when moving to to a diff server).

In SQL Server 2000, I used a .ini file to pass the path and used a Dynamic properties task to set run time variables. That way, evertime the path changes, I only had to change 1 ini file and all packages picked up the new path from it. How do I do this in SQL Server 2005 ?

Appreciate any assistance / suggestion in this regard.

Passing Multivalue Parameters

May 22, 2007

Hello Friends,

I have a report (Say Report 1)which is asking for a multivalue parameter Period. The user selects three period from the dropdown list available for the Parameter. Lets say that the user select 0407,0507,0607. Now is this report 1 there is a particular field which is linked to another sub report. So if the top level Report 1 supplies the revenue for 3 regions say for the periods selected then clicking on any of the regions would open a second detailed report, say Report 2 for the three periods as selected.

Till this everything is fine.

Now the problem is that in this detailed Report 2 there would be a particular text box as "Click here to naviagate back to parent report". So that when the user clicks on this cell he is taken back to the parent report, Report 1 which was originally generated for the 3 periods.

Can anyone please advise as to how the Multivalue Parameter which was passed from Report 1 to Report 2 can again be looped back to Report 1 from Report 2.

Thanx Friends,

Raktim
