Use Of Parameters To Hide Column Values Of A Report
Oct 10, 2007
HI All,
I want to send a reports to two person. Reports are going to be delivered automatically. I hope to use snapshot option. In my report there is one column which can be seen by only one person. Can I use parameters to hide one column from one person? If its possible, can you explain how to do that please. If its not possible, what are the other option excet creating two different reports.
Also If I use parameters , can reports be executed automatically?
Thanks
I have requirement where first I need to show only one report parameter. Based on user selection I need to prompt or show the user another report parameter.
Say suppose I have 3 parameters. User selects first value in first parameter I should not show the other 2 parameters. If user selects second value in first parameter I should show second parameter and hide third parameter. There is no relationship between these 2 parameters except user selection. Similarly if user third value in first parameter then I should show third parameter and hide second parameter.
Is this possible? I can not see any Visible property for report parameters.
Is it possible to show or hide columns in a report on the fly, i.e. without having to run the report again?
I have a report in with a parameter to let the user choose between the data to show. However the customer doesn't like it that he has to rerun the report. Any help would be appreciated!
I am trying to figure out a way to use a columns default value when using a stored procedure to insert a new row into a table. I know you are thinking "that is what the default value is for", but bare with me on this.
Take the following table and subsequent stored procedure. In the table below, I have four columns, one of which is NOT NULL and has a default value set for that column.
CREATE PROCEDURE TestTable_Insert @FirstName nvarchar(50), @LastName nvarchar(50), @SSN nvarchar(15), @geek bit = NULL AS BEGIN INSERT INTO TestTable (FirstName, LastName, SSN, IsGeek) VALUEs (@FirstName, @LastName, @SSN, @geek) END GO
and executed it as follows (without passing the @geek parameter value)
The error I got back (and somewhat expected) is the following:
Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'IsGeek', table 'ScottTest.dbo.TestTable'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
What I would like to happen is for the table to use the columns default value and not the NULL value if I don't pass a parameter for @geek. OR, it would be really cool to be able to do something like this:
Hallo is it possible to perform an insert/update query upon the execution of a report, using the report Visual Basic expressions? I mean, the user enters some values for the report parameters, and i would like to store them, along with the resulting recordset data, into a dedicated table in the database.
Hi all, I've developed few reports I'm passing values to few parameters in a report from menu report. when I click on "View Report" button values are changed to default for parameters eventhough I've not changed specifically any values for parameters. thus report is missing few parameters and not able to execute properly.. this error occurs only in web environment.. after publishing reports.. they are working fine in developer suite(Visual Studio)
I have created a report, and am setting default values for the parameters. Once the default parameters is set, the report automatically generates. Is there a way to make it not automatically generate the report? We are setting the parameters with values that will get the end user the most recent data, but alot of times, they will want to pull older data as well. We don't want them to have to wait for the report to automatically generate before they can change the parameter values
I have a report I want to modify and when I go to deploy it I get:
Changing the report parameters or data sources to the values you specified is not allowed. The report is configured to run unattended. Using the specified values would prevent the unattended processing of this report
Now I understand the error, it is because on the report server's web management interface I entered credentials for the report to run that point to a custom datasource and supplied the appropriate credentials to run the report.
However, I don't want to have to reconfigure that just to deploy a slightly modified version of the report.
How can I get around this? Or what is the proper work around? I just want to change the background color from dark gray to light gray on a header column....
I have the following report I need to create with 2 parameters. An equal OR not equal. I need the report to have a drop down that has equal to '1024' or a drop down option that IS NOT equal to '1024'. I also need the WHERE clause to return the equal or not equal based on the user selection inside of SSRS.
SELECT user1 AS [Company], reference AS [PAI_REF], statenumber, LEFT(user4, 7) AS [Supplier Code], user4 AS [Company Information], user8 AS [Transaction Type], user2 AS[Invoice Number], --CONVERT(VARCHAR,CONVERT(Date, user3, 103),101) AS [Invoice Date], [routeName] AS [Route], username AS [User Name]
I am working on Sql server Reporting Services(Sql Server 2005),
i have designed a Report and deployed that report on Report Server, on this report i need to show the user selected values in page header by using Parameters which i have already created in the Report.
There are 35 to 40 fields in the Front End(Asp.net2.0)
on passing all these values from front end Report is prompting for parameters which is not desired for my case even though i have made ShowParameterPrompts to false.
In my SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE), pubs Database has a Stored Procedure "byroyalty":
ALTER PROCEDURE byroyalty @percentage int
AS
select au_id from titleauthor
where titleauthor.royaltyper = @percentage
And Table "titleauthor" is: au_id title_id au_ord royaltyper

NULL NULL NULL NULL //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// I try to do an ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 programming in my VB 2005 Express to get @percentage printed out in the VB Form1. I read some articles in the websites and MSDN about this task and I am very confused about "How to Work with Output Parameters & Report their Values in VB Forms": (1) Do I need the Form.vb [Design] and specify its properties of the object and classes I want to printout? (2) After the SqlConnectionString and the connection.Open(), how can I bring the value of @percentage to the Form.vb? (3) The following is my imcomplete, crude draft code:
Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=pubs;Integrated Security=SSPI;"
Dim connection As SqlConnection = New
SqlConnection(connectionString)
Try
connection.Open()
Dim command As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("byroyalty", connection)
command.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure ................................................................... .................................................................. etc. //////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// From the above-mentioned (1), (2) and (3), you can see how much I am lost/confused in attempting to do this task. Please help and give me some guidances and good key instructions for getting the output parameter printed out in the FORM.vb in my VB 2005 Express project.
I run these stored procedure to build the report and I am able successfully to build the report but I need some prompts to in the report to get the specific data .
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Sharepoint_Ticket_Report] @StartDate DATETIME, @EndDate
[Code] ....
And for prompts how to create created_by and message_type dropdowns as shown in picture.
Hi, Is it is possible to hide some parameters in report? Also it should be possible to pass values to this hidden parameters from the application. When I did this through Report Manager, some error message like ' the parameter 'XXXX' is read-only. ....' appears.
I am wondering if RS has the capability to minimize the parameter portion on the top. I see that parameter can be hidden, but I would need the capability to just minimize and if the user needs to change the parameter, they can still click on a button to un-minimize.
I am doing report development against OLAP. I have Parameter1 and then my second parameter is a boolean (True/False). I want to show Parameter 3/Paramater 4 based on selection of Param2 (So, if true, show Param3, if false, show Param 4) and please remember we are doing this in a sequence.
Is this even possible in SSRS 2005? If yes, how the hell do I achieve it.
PS: Sorry for cursing, but I am about to lose my mind. Any help is much much appreciated.
I am building reports against our TFS development db. One of the reports tracks days spent (Dwell Time) in various status categories (eg: New, Assigned, In Development, Hold, etc) for a given "ticket". For a fixed list of values from {Work Item].System_State, I can send the results (days in Assigned) to the column named (Assigned) for each status for each event in the [Work Item History], and then sum them for each ticket as: Ticket ID New Assigned InDev etc 1230001 2 0 0 ... 1230001 0 1 2 ....
SUM 2 1 2 .... However, I have many different Projects, each of which use their own Status names. I don't want to duplicate the same basic report, if I can avoid it.
How can I name and generate this data for the unique Status list for each Project?
Simplest analog is: name = First(Fields!Status.Value, "TFSdb") and allows value for a column name (category) as: =IIF(Fields!Status.Value = First(Fields!Status.Value, "TFSdb"), Fields!Days.Value, 0) However this fails beause: 1. It only delivers the FIRST status value, and, 2. I cannot SUM an expression which is itself an aggregate (using First).
anyone has any idea how to make the parameters toolbar to be automatically hidden when the report is first being accessed and subsequently to show the parameters when clicked on the arrows ? I have some users who complained that the parameters list is too long, so they wish to hide it first when accessing the report. I know there's this called rc: Parameters=false but this will permanently hide the toolbar which i don't want.
By the way, i am using sql 2000 reporting services
I have a report that shows a decription for things paid for and the budget. I want to be able to hide the detail row if there is a null or 0.00 in the amount column. Would i put a filter int he detail group? Everytime i try to filter the detail group, it doesnt seem to filter out the nulls. I can individually make each column invisible, but it still shows a (+) next to the groups, and takes space for the empty white spot. Any suggestions? Also I wanted to show the zeros in the group, for the actual to budget comparison, So i cant change my stored procedure. I just dont want the detail visible if the value is null.
I'd like the state of the function bars to stay at whatever it was as the user moves from one report to the next rather than opening to full each time a new report is opened. Can this be done through a setting or programatically at teh report level? Is there a <default_toolbars_OpenState> tag or something?
We have SharePoint list which has, say, two columns. Column A and Column B.
Column A can have three values - red, blue & green.
Column B can have four values - pen, marker, pencil & highlighter.
A typical view of list can be:
Column A - Column B red - pen red - pencil red - highlighter blue - marker blue - pencil green - pen green - highlighter red - pen blue - pencil blue - highlighter blue - pencil
We are looking to create a report from SharePoint List using SSRS which has following view:
red blue green pen 2 0 1 marker 0 1 0 pencil 1 3 0 highlighter 1 1 1
We tried Sum but not able to display in single row.
I have an SSIS package that imports data from an Excel file, replaces any value in Excel that reads "NULL" to "", then writes the data to a couple of databases.
What I have discovered today, is I have two columns of dates, an admit date and discharge date column, and what I need to do is anywhere I have a null value in the discharge date column, I have to replace it with the value in the admit date column.
I have searched around online and tried a few things using the Replace funtion in Derived columns but no dice so far.

I am SSRS user, We have a .net UI from where we want to pass multi select values, but these values are comma separated in the database. how can I write a sql query such that when I select multi values on my UI, the comma separated values are take care of.
I would like to control user access to my Report Manager. In detail,I would like to hide some report folders from certain users when they access the Report Manager. Some of the users are not suppose to see certain folders on the report manager, and some users are suppose to see all report folders.
How can I do this?.Where should I include this settings?
Hello, I have a report with parameter whice is a multi value parameter.
The problem is that this parameter does not always get a value and when he doest get a value the user gets an error message like: The "all_names" parameter is missing a value.
Is there a way to hide this error from the user? I can't check the "allow null value" for this parameter because its a multi value parameter.
I'm creating a report that is grouping the rows per year and month, as it does this there are certain rows that show up that I would like to hide since the value in one of the columns is < = 0. For the purpose of my report I don't needs these rows to be illustrated. How can I do this?
I am using the below expression for hidding the zero data labels in ssrs chart.=IIF(Fields!Name.Value=0,False,True). But this expression is working for some other charts. It is not wrking for only charts. I could not find the solution for that. How to hide the zero values.
