Can someone provide me some hints or useful links on user access throguh a report server? Here is the situation:
MachineA: (My Machine) running Windows XP professional with full SQL Server 2005 installed
MachineB: running Windows 2003 Server with full SQL Server 2005 installed
MachineC: a user machine running Windows XP professional .
All the machines are connected within the same LAN.
I created a report - on MachineA with a data source called 'DataSource1' that points to an analysis database located in MachineB. I deployed the report to the reporting service on MachineA. I have no problem to view the report on my web browser on MachineA through http://localhost/reportserver. Now I let a user to view the report on on MachineC through http://MachineA/reportserver. She can see my report. However, when she clicks the report, she got the following error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'DataSource1'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
I tried many ways to fix the problem, and got no solution. She sees my report so she can access my report server. She has enough access right to the analysis database and cubes and dimensions. She can use her Management Studio to connect to it and browse the cube. She just can not open 'DataSource1'. I would really appreciate if someone can share some knowledge or recommend me some useful resources that explains the access/security control via Web Service -> Report Server -> Analysis Cubes. There are so many places to configure the access/security: IIS, Report Manager (Roles), the OLTP server that hosts Report Server databases (ReportServer and ReportServerTempDB), and the Analysis database (also called roles). I really get confused: how do they work together?
Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report 2. IP address of user agent 3. Identity of current user 4. Date/Time of the failed attempt
We are using Crystal Report Services XI to generate reports from SQL Server 2000 database running on server within the same domain (LAN).
for some reason, SQL Server is rejecting the Credentials that is provided to CR Services, the user has right to that database. When We run the report manual, it works fine, but when we run Automatic on schedule , it fails.
The Authentication mode is set to Mixed.
The Startup Service accoutn is set to "This Account"
Any idea, why would this failure on User is encoutered.
I would like to know if there is a way to find out who changed a users roles/access WITHOUT using the audit function. For example, if a user account was created and given SA access then changed to read only, how can I find out who made that change? I tried searching for an answer, but kept getting no results. I'm thinking this may tie into the sys.sysusers view?
Below query tells us if guest user is enabled or disabled in a particular database
SELECT dp.name, CASE perms.class WHEN 0 THEN 'Yes' ELSE 'No' END AS 'Enabled' FROM sys.database_principals dp LEFT JOIN (SELECT grantee_principal_id, class FROM sys.database_permissions WHERE class = 0 AND type = 'CO' AND state = 'G') AS perms ON dp.principal_id = perms.grantee_principal_id WHERE dp.name = 'guest';
Do we have a query which can also add the database name to above query output? The output must have columns with data against Name,Enabled,Database name
I've been developing desktop client-server and web apps and have used Access and SQL Server Standard most of the time. I'm looking into using SQL CE, and had a few questions that I can't seem to get a clear picture on:
- The documentation for CE says that it supports 256 simultaneous connections and offers the Isolation levels, Transactions, Locking, etc with a 4GB DB. But most people say that CE is strictly a single-user DB and should not be used as a DB Server. Could CE be extended for use as a multi-user DB Server by creating a custom server such as a .NET Remoting Server hosted through a Windows Service (or any other custom host) on a machine whereby the CE DB would run in-process with this server on the machine which would then be accessed by multiple users from multiple machines?? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
- and further more can we use Enterprise Services (Serviced Components) to connect to SQL CE and further extend this model to offer a pure high-quality DB Server? Clients PCs -> Server PC hosting Remoting Service -> Enterprise Services -> ADO.NET -> SQL CE
Seems quite doable to me, but I may be wrong..please let me know either ways
I'm very new new at this. I'm try to deploy a report model and got this message. I have no idea what its going on about.
Can anyone help me?

I'm using SQL Express with Advance Services & I get this error when I try to deploy my reports. Why do I get this error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

The feature: "Remote access to report data sources and/or the report server database" is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. (rsOperationNotSupported)
We have an ASP.net application that currently sits on a server that runs IIS and sql server. We are spliting IIS and SQL server into 2 seperate machines. I believe I have the connection string okay as I can see the entries in the security log on the sql server machine however it keeps saying aspnet user invalid user or invalid password. What gives with this. We put .net on the sql server however this just added the aspnet user to the machine. Do I need to create an aspnet user inside the sql server and give it control of the dbases as well? I am running this using the personal web server not IIS on a server. I have a project on my desktop and am using the "local" IIS or personal web server that comes with visual studio out of the box. What kills me is that when I put the project on a real IIS server that has sql server on the same machine I have no issues. However when I split the dbase and the IIS apart onto 2 servers I get this aspnet invalid user or invalid password. HELP
I'm currently looking at a multi-user app that has an Access 97 frontend and an SQL2K backend. Proposed changes to the system mean that the user concurrency count is likely to increase dramatically, and I'm wanting to know if there are any limits to the concurrency for this architecture.
I tried using my administrator account to add SQLServer as an ODBC Connection, but for some reason when it tries authenticating it fails and the reason is that the user is not trusted to use that connection. Yet on my account i've created on my domain works perfectly.
I've added a new user in SQL Enterprise manager, but i still get that error.
How do I set the user to be trusted to use the connection?
I have deployed some reports on the reporting server, i have noticed that every one in the domain in which the reports are published can access the reports, except one user. when he tries to access the report he got the following error message or the blank report.
"An error occured during report processing"
"can no read the next data row for the data set dataset1".
Although this user has all the roles on the reporiting server kike browser, content manager etc.
Hello,I would like to know if it is possible to create a form in Access2000,which would function like a calendar for 8 operating rooms inhospital, showing which hours are those closed for a specific date. For this intersection I would like to be appeared the name of thedoctor, the name of the patient and the kind of operation.Furthemore I would like this intersection to be marked in the calendarwith a colour, showing that this room is closed for that time. The data for this form are going to be extracted from a table storedin SQL Server 2000.Generally the whole application is stored in SQL Server( storedprocedures, tables, diagrams etc.)1)How this can be done? Is this going to be through VB or not? Can Imake a template in Excel spreadsheet put it in a formand apply code on it?I would like also to make forms(in Access) for user-entry data thatwill use stored procedures of SQL Server with pushing the OK button. The stored procedures would take as arguments the user-entry data fromtheforms.I thought to make a pass-through query which would use a VB functionand would take as arguments the user's valuesand after would pass these values in the stored procedures.2)Can this be done through the pass-through query, that is SqlServer "understands" VB or better Access pass-through query processthe VB commands before be connected with the Sql Server? What do you think of this as an idea?My problem is that I really don't know how to combine VB code withTransact Sql code. Can you give an example or any ideas where I can find the relativeinformation? Thanks you in advance.
This is my problem: I do not know how to get the servername from a C# user defined function . Is this possible?
I am writing a User Defined Function (UDF). Inside of this user defined function I need the name of the databaseserver that it is running on. Does anyone have an idea how I might do this? Is there an enviromental variable that I could access within the C# code I use to write the UDF?
I could always use a parameter to pass in the name of the server, but I would like to have as few parameters as possible.
if db_id(@DbName) = Null begin Print 'DataBase dose not Exist' end else
Begin Declare @spId Varchar(1000)
DECLARE TmpCursor CURSOR FOR Select 'master..xp_CmdShell ''Net Send ' + rtrim(convert(Varchar(50), HostName))+' "Dear ' + upper(max(rtrim(loginame)))+ space(1) + @Msg + '"''' as spId from master..SysProcesses where db_Name(dbID) = @DbName and spId <> @@SpId and rtrim(ltrim(HostName)) <> '' and HostName <> host_Name() and dbID <> 0 and spId > 50 group by HostName
I am using SqlServer2005 as data base for my web application. I am able to connect to the database through DBCP connection pool . Its working fine for 2 user. When ever 2 users do transaction, it works fine. But 3 users do the transaction, its trowning error.Even i increase the pool size the behavior is same. error: com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerException: Server failed to resume the transaction, desc: 3f00000002.
For a change I wrote a connection pool to access the DB. I am getting the same error. i.e. Its working fine for 2 user and throws error for more than 2 users.
I want to grant a user permissions to run Jobs in SQL Server 2000. I can' seem to find any appropriate roles for that. Do I need to assign him a server role? In that case, which? Many thanks.
Hi guys,I'm not sure if I'm just bad at googling but I can't seem to find a way to set an ASP.NET 2.0 web application to connect to SQL Server 2005 using the current client's user credentials. My web application is using Integrated Windows Authentication so its Page.User.Identity is set to a DOMAINusername value... I want to pass that to my connectionstring or have my connections pick up the identity automatically and use that Identity when accessing the db server.Oh and another thing, my IIS Application Pool is using a specific Identity itself, so I don't know if that might affect the above.Hope someone could help.
I need to run a script in production that adds primary key to a table. Because table is large, I can't run it in one shot, the log file is not so large to accommodate it. Instead, I created a new table with same structure plus new surrogate primary key, and I populate it in a cursor loop.
I already ran it many times in test server, and no problems with that. But the problem will be in production when applications will be accessing this table and try to insert/update it while I am running my loop.
So I am looking for a solution how to block users to access this table, it's OK if they receive an error. Setting database to single user mode will not work because I don't want to block them from all the rest tables in this database.
I have to create a query that will be returning the users and the application modules they have access for. Along with the list of users and modules the query should also return if any module is not accessible for that user.
The 'ApplicationUsers' table is like this:
CREATE TABLE #ApplicationUsers ( userId INT, UserName VARCHAR(50) ) INSERT INTO #ApplicationUsers VALUES (1, 'Daniel'), (2,'Martin'), (3, 'Brandon'), (4, 'Doug')The 'ApplicationModule' table is like this:
[Code] .....
I used pivot query but there are a couple of limitations in it(may be I am making mistakes in it). First, the pivot columns are static whereas I need dynamic column names(Application Modules). Second, I need to include all the users with all the modules with access or without access that I am unable to achieve.
I am in the process of migrating 40 access databases to SQL Server and still use an access front end.All of these databases are Identical in structure and purpose. The goal is to centralize all of the databases backends into one Sql server database, but the data needs to stay seperated by each location(user). I was able to add a location feild to all of the tables to keep the data seperate. Then I imported three of the locations data for testing. I would like to know how could I filter the data on the access frontend, so that it would ask the user for their location and only allow the user to access, update, and delete that Locations data ?
I created a report in another project and it is loading through the web server. Now I want to access that report through a web project that is using the reportviewer control. Now how do I setup the reportviewer to access that existing report on web server? I don't think you would have to have the report actually added to the web project do you? When I hit this page no report comes up.
Here is MicroSofts ReportViewer Control defined in my web form:
I would like the Backup SQL user A can backup and restore DATABASE_a, what access right I need to grant to him. Although he can backup the database_a to the c:Program Files.....Database_a.BAK but he cannot restore it with some message said ''not enough security privieges..
Please quote some example right assigment so that I can replicate to our environment
I have a user, who is trying log into the server, but everytime he gets this error saying something about the Group policy denies him access.
This user needs access and i'm trying to understand how to grant it to him.
I have been looking into how i can access the group policy editor, but the farthest i can get is the Local group policy editor. How do i make sure this specific user has access?
I have a windows 2008 with SQL Server 2008 R2 VM on Azure. I am trying to connect to the SQL server for the first time using SSMS, but have not been able it. I have a VPN tunnel, so I am connecting using Windows authentication. The error I get back from SSMS is:
Login failed for user 'domainusername'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456).In the event viewer I see this error message: Login failed for user 'domainusername'. Reason: Token-based server access validation failed with an infrastructure error. Check for previous errors. [CLIENT: <local machine>]
I have done the following:
- created an endpoint for port 1433 - opened port 1433 in the firewall - Ran the MSSQLSERVER service as the build-in users Network Services, Local System, and Local Service, and as a local and domain administrator, with the same exact result each time. - I get the same result trying to connect locally or remotely. - I get the same result trying to connect using sqlcmd.
I have several reports for users to view on our Intranet. After installation of SQL 2005 SP2 patch, I cannot delete user or user's authority from Report in Properties Tab. An error message was shown on the status bar. It indicated that JavaScript Error: 'Return' statement outside of function. Seems something wrong with the 'Delete' funciton in SQL 2005 after update. The other functions worked fine. Could you point me out how to fix it or need to install any updates / hotfix. Thanks a lot!
I have a problem that I'm hoping someone can give me some advice with: I have created a website that uses .Net 2.0, SQL 2005, and ASP.NET Membership to manage users. Everything works fine until it comes to calling reports, in particular setting report parameters:
Exception Details: Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms.ReportServerException: The permissions granted to user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE' are insufficient for performing this operation. (rsAccessDenied)
Source Error:
Line 30: End If Line 31: Line 32: Me.rvInvoice.ServerReport.SetParameters(p) Line 33: Me.rvInvoice.Visible = True Line 34:
The report worked fine before the security model was changed to use the Membership classes which leads me to conclude that I have not configured the Report Server to deal with the network account that the ASP pages are now using.
I have looked at the example project for configuring extensions with no success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
