Temporary Tables In Multi User Environment

Feb 6, 2004

Hi,

I am developing reporting application (access project) which will be used in multi user environment.

Here is what I have:

1 SQLServer database for many users

Each report will be based on:
stored procedure which creates a table filtered for specific dates predefined views will use the newly generated table to show results to the client. However, if more than 1 person runs reports results will not be accurate if each person specified different dates because they will look at the same table and results will match only for a user who called the stored procedure last.

what can you recommend - how to report in multi user environment?

Many thanks

How Use Stored Procedures In Multi-user Environment?

Apr 19, 2007

Hi!

In my database I have all business logic in stored procedures. For example there are procedures: ReadBike and UpdateBike. Bike is business object stored in 4 tables.

On my system work 100 employees and we have one problem with this. The stroy is;

1. User A reads data about Bike1

2. User B reads data about Bike1

3. User A updates data about Bike1 (user B have old data)

4. User B updates data about Bike1

So user B don't know about chnages made by user A. How to solve that ptroblem?

It's probably solved in ADO, but I want use business login in procedures.

Walter

Web Based Sql Server Record Manipulation In Multi-user Environment

Jan 20, 2007

I was wondering if you guys might give me some advice on how best to handle a particular scenario i'm struggling with.
I have a client that basically wants web-based-update access to their sql server database.  Specifically, for a group of users to be able to access a page where they select a record for editing.  the caveat is that no two users should be able to pull up the same record at the same time.  Originally I would have thought there was some easier record-locking-mechanism I could exploit within sql server or ado.net itself, but I haven't been able to come up with anything..  so this is my current approach:
The page they use starts-out with basically a blank form.  there are custom-built paging controls at the bottom of the screen.  they click page-forward to begin and a stored procedure is ran to select a record and update a field on that record to indicate "in-process".  when they finish editing the record - or page on to the next record without updating - another stored procedure is ran - updating/resetting the status field on the record appropriately.
The entire page is encapsulated within an ajax.net updatepanel.
The entire page has caching disabled.  This works well in conjunction with the first page being blank.  if they get out of the app and try to get back in by clicking the back button - all they can do is get to the first (blank) page.
A piece of javascript window.onunload clicks a button on the page that releases the record they currently have selected in the event of a re-direct, clicking back, etc.. it appears to work with everything except a window close.  in that case, i have a stored procedure running periodically on the server that checks how long a record has been selected - and if it exceeds the time indicated - resets the record as to allow it to be re-selected later.
In the event of session timeout, they are redirected to another page that tells them their session has timed-out (and since the window.onunload fires - it takes care of releasing the record if they have one on the screen).
The concept seemed to be working well until I started multi-user testing.  Now it seems as if two users time it perfectly - they are actually able to both select the same record.  it happens pretty rarely, but it does seem to happen.  I'm guessing this has to do with how my stored procedure is structured - possibly allowing a tiny-enough window between the record being selected for editing - and the update running to actually status the record as in-process (2 separate sql statements within the one stored procedure).
I believe I also have a found a second quirk in my approach where something is causing the window.onunload event to fire twice in some strange situations..  but that's more annoying/confusing from a logging standpoint than anything..
I've read where people say to ensure you dont update a record that's already been updated - that you should compare the fields before you actually perform the update and ensure they haven't changed since you selected it..  but to me that doesn't solve anything.. if two people select the same record and both spend time working on it - the person that tries to update last has just wasted their time.
I've also toyed with the idea of maintaining a separate table in the database to hold the keys to the currently selected records and use that to keep multiple people from selecting the same record - but honestly i dont know if that approach is any better than what i'm doing now.
anyway, I was just curious if you guys had any advice in regards to how you'd handle a request like this..  or if you see any obvious problems/fixes with my current approach..
I would greatly appreciate any info you could provide-
thanks-

[JavaScript Error] Cannot Delete User Or User's Authority In Specific Report After Install SQL SP2

Jan 23, 2007

 Hi,

I have several reports for users to view on our Intranet. After installation of SQL 2005 SP2 patch, I cannot delete user or user's authority from Report in Properties Tab. An error message was shown on the status bar. It indicated that JavaScript Error: 'Return' statement outside of function. Seems something wrong with the 'Delete' funciton in SQL 2005 after update. The other functions worked fine. Could you point me out how to fix it or need to install any updates / hotfix. Thanks a lot!

Error Login Failed For User ''. The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection.

Is There A Way To Show A User-friendly Error When User Did Not Select A Required Parameter ?

Apr 9, 2007

Hi all,

I was wondering whether there is a way to show the user an error when the user did not select a specific parameter.

In my case, I have two optional parameters. The user has to select either one to view the report. If the user does not select either one, I would like to show some sort of an error page indicating so. However, all i am getting is a complete blank with no report in sight. I as a developer know this is an error as a result of missing parameters, but i was wondering whether I could produce a page or direct it to a page so that the user doesn't go all horrified at an empty page ?

Thanks

Bernard

Mar 11, 2008

I received the above error yesterday and haven't been able to trace it to any job or process running. We haven't implemented any changes to the server in the past few months, and it doesn't look to be a user-established connection, since the Client IP Address of the SSPI handshake error is from the server itself.

I logged this set of messages in SQL AgentServer error log:

When choosing connection string i choose the database i want in the "connection properties" dialog box and

Login Failed for user , the user is not associated with a trusted sql server connection. (microsoft SQL Server,Error:18452)

hi ,
i am getting the above error message once in a while maybe two or 3 times a week , and then it goes away in 10 to 15 minutes or 5 minutes ,

our mode is set to mixed and we are able to connect and use both sql and windows , but once in a while , it will give us the above message when we try connecting throught sql server management studio client (using sql 05) using windows login , although it lets us connect using sql login while the windows login is denied, and after a while it lets us connect with both.

occurs randomly on some days , we run our servers on VM ware virtual machines using windows 2003 r2 enterprise 64 bit with sp2 with esx 301 virtual machine.

would appericate any feedback on this thanks

Error 15185: There Is No Remote User 'sa' Mapped To Local User '(null)' From The Remote Server 'DTS_FSERVER'.

Nov 10, 2006

I am trying to add a linked server from a AMD x64 server (Windows 2003) with SQL Server 2005 64 bit to a Server running SQL 2000. These are not in the same domain.

I can create a linked server using the option "Be made using the login's current security context" but can not when trying to specify the security context, i.e. sa and the sa password. When I try I get the following message:

Msg 15185, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_addlinkedsrvlogin, Line 98
There is no remote user 'sa' mapped to local user '(null)' from the remote server 'DTS_FSERVER'.

I have several other x64 server that I have no problem creating a linked server and specifying sa and the sa password.

The problem with using "the login's current security context" option is that I get an error when trying to run any Jobs against the linked server. The job fails withe the following error:

Executed as user: NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM. Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 7416). The step failed.

I'm sure the two errors are related. Any ideas what is going on?

Login Failed For User '' ..... Sql Server, Error: 18452 (The User Is Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection)

Nov 7, 2007

Hi

Last week I was receiving an error when trying to connect to two of our seven sql servers from my laptop via my domain admin account. The only fix was to have my laptop rebuilt and everything re-installed.

Today however another administrator is starting to have the same problem but to only one of the seven servers!
When that administrator uses my laptop with her domain admin account it works!?

What could possibly be going wrong with our laptops? We have not installed or changed anything.

The full error message we see:

Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (Microsoft Sql Server, Error: 18452)

The error being logged on the server: (two errors are logged each time)

SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 53.35.165.148]

Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 53.35.165.148]

Error Message: Failed To Generate A User Instance Of SQL Server. Only An Integrated Connection Can Generate A User Instance

Mar 3, 2008

Hello everybody,I was configuring a SqlDataSource control using SQL Authentication mode.I first added a database file (testdb.mdf) through Solution Explorer-Add New Items. Then through Database Explorer I created a table named "info"Then while configuring  the SqlDataSource control I used the SQL Authentication mode and attached the "testdb.mdf" database file.Test Connection showed success. But when I hit the Ok button of the wizard it displayed the following error message:Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server. Only an integrated connection can generate a user instance. While configuring the  SqlDataSource control I clicked "New Connection". Under Data Source section I tried both Microsoft SQL Server and Microsoft SQL Server Database File. And in both the cases I attached a databese file(testdb.mdf).          Plz enlighten me on this. Thanks and Regards,Sankar.

Link Server Error: Login Failed For User 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

Oct 18, 2007

Hi,

I am trying to create a linked server between 2 SQL Server 2005 boxes.
When I create the linked server I specify a login for the connection.
The strange part is that I get the following error when it goes to test the connection:

The test connection to the linked server failed
Login failed for user 'Domainuser'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18456)

I can use the SQL mangement studio to conenct to the database using this same login.
The login has all the server roles assigned to it also.

Can anyone shed some light as to what may be the problem?

Thanks,

'sa' User Map Error

Sep 13, 2006

Hello all,

I'm having a problem with my sa account, we just migrated from sql server 2000 to sql server 2005 and 1 of our production applications is failing on the sa login.

I checked the 'User Map' setup to the 'sa' account and the databases that need accessing aren't mapped.

When I try to add the map, I get error "Cannot use the special principal 'sa'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15405)". I get the same error when trying to remove a user map for sa (there are a couple db's already mapped), and I don't remember how I mapped them in the first place, but it certainly isn't working now!

Thanks in advance,

Error When Trying To Delete User

Oct 27, 2006

I created many test users in my application while trying to get a custom registration process to work, and now I would like to delete those users so they don't use up space in my database. When I go into the aspnet_Users table and try to delete a user, it gives me the following error:-------------------------------- DELETE statement conflicted with COLUMN REFERENCE constraint 'FK__aspnet_Me__UserI__0F975522'. The conflict occurred in database 'DB_83996', table 'aspnet_Membership', column 'UserId'.DELETE FROM [DB_83996].[dbo].[aspnet_Users] WHERE 1=0 OR ( [UserId] = '{7E864A07-6FE8-46EF-A2B8-354646D57C76}' )-------------------------------- I don't know much about SQL statements, so is that statement it gave me the statement I need to use to delete that particular user? If not, how would I go about deleting these users I don't need anymore? Thanks so much. :)

Error While Check For User

Jun 5, 2008

my aspnetdb.mdf can,t created  my remote connection settings in sql server is ok
and i get this folwing error :

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:
The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the applications App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:

If the applications App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the applications directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the applications App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the applications App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the applications App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server accounts credentials are used when creating the new database.
Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.

I have just managed to have JDBC working, but I am getting an error that the user does not exist. Dbo User / Permissions Error.

Sep 6, 2006

I had found one or two other questions about this, but neither of them seemed to be the same as my instance, and there solutions were not valid for me.

I purchased the Build a Program Now MS Visual C# 2005 Express Edition book with CD.

This was installed by the auto installer on the disk. which included the SQL Express 2005 version.

I have used the Visual Express C# interface, build a small program, created the database, created tables. all went well. I can even add data, and so forth.

My problem came when I went to click on database Diagrams in the Database Explorer.

I get a Dialog box stating

" This Database does not have a valid dbo user or you do not have permissions to impersonate the dbo user, so database diagramming is not available. Do you want to make yourself the dbo of this database in order to use the database diagramming?"

two options are Yes and No.

If I choose yes, I get the following dialog box stating,

" This databse does not have a valid dbo user or you do not have permissions to impresonate the dbo user, so database diagramming is not available. Ensure the dbo account is valid and ensure you have imprersonate permission on the dbo account."

One button, OK.

I have searched every where I can think of to try to figure out how to set / alter the dbo user info / permissions.

Can someone guide me on this?

Thanks in advance.

Tom
