Vb2005 Express - Design Reports And Add To Project
Jan 16, 2008
Ok, I'm using vb2005 express and I know that the reportviewer control has to be added and reports can't be designed from the IDE. So, I downloaded the business intelligence studio and I can design a report that looks like just what I want. What I can't seem to do is add that report to the application I'm developing. I don't want to use a report server - I want to use the report with client side processsing. I'm wondering if this is possible and if so how? When I try to add that .rdl file or rename it to a .rdcl file to my project I'm not allowed to do so. Any thoughts?
Unable to open the physical file "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDatacartracker.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(error not found)". An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDatacartracker.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I am using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition along with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
Now here's what I did:
Rather than use the Database Explorer within VB2005 EE to create my database, I thought I would try creating my database externally using the downloadable "SQL Server Management Studio Express" tool. (I figured that if I had a stable data model for my database, I could side-step the copying/overwriting issues that come with creating a database as part of a VB solution.)
So having gotten my database setup and populated with some sample data, I am now trying to connect to it from Visual Basic. In VB (in the context of working on a VB Solution), I do the following:
Select Add New Data Source... from the Data menu to bring up the Data Source Configuration Wizard. Choose "Database" for the data source type and click Next. Click "New Connection..." to bring up the Add Connection dialogue.
For data source I choose "Microsoft SQL Server Database File", with ".NET Framework Data Provider..." as the data provider. Navigate to my existing database file (in "C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData" folder). Use Windows Authentication.
When I click "Test Connection" or just click "OK", i get the Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition error shown at the top of this message.
Is this occuring because I'm trying to access my database as an .MDF file rather than through Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? If this is the case, is there any way that I can tell VB2005 EE to use Named Pipes / Shared Memory / TCP/IP? Is this a fundamental limitation of VB2005 EE?
Thanks in advance to the guru who is able to explain this to me...
Im used to using access and now im gonna switch to sql server 2005 express. My program is coded in Visual basic 2005 where all connection is made to the access database by oledb.
Now when im creating the database in management studio express, ive noticed that there is no boolean datatype, but instead there is a bit datatype.
Is this the one to use, and would the bit datatype accept true/false values when sending sql commands? In visual basic2005 i think that it uses 0 for true and -1 for false or something like that, so when switchin database i would have to recode quite a bit.
I have SQL server express 2005 installed on my pc as instance SQLEXPRESS.
I have created a Visual Basic applicaion with the following as connection to the SQL server express 2005 running on the same PC: **************************************************************************************************** Dim lconnectionString As String Dim builder As New SqlConnectionStringBuilder Dim cmd As New SqlCommand Dim reader As SqlDataReader Dim parameter As SqlParameter builder("Data Source") = ".SQLEXPRESS" builder("Initial Catalog") = "" builder("AttachDbFilename") = "C:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Projectsabcabcabc.mdf" builder("Integrated Security") = True builder("User Instance") = True lconnectionString = builder.ConnectionString Dim sqlConnection1 As New SqlConnection(lconnectionString) cmd.CommandText = "SP_add_collection" cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Connection = sqlConnection1 sqlConnection1.Open() *******************************************************************************************************************
It seems that i can not connect to the abc.mdf in SSMSE while the VB program is running. (ERROR: Database 'C:My DocumentsVisual Studio 2005Projectsabcabcabc.mdf' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) )
If i connect to the abc.mdf first in SSMSE, then run the VB program afterwards, it gives me the error on this line -- sqlConnection1.Open()
I want to be able to access the abc.mdf database with both SSMSE and VB at the same time. Could anyone help me on this ?
I'm trying to use the drill-through feature to link to a report in the same solution, on the same server, but in a different project. Local help files say:
"The list of report names includes all reports in the current report server project. If the drillthrough report is on the report server but is not in the project, type the name of the report. The report name can contain a relative or absolute path to the report."
Can someone give an example of a relative or absolute path? Nothing I've tried has worked.
I am very new to this form and I need urgent help and I hope someone can provide forme some light to my problem.
The college has a soccer team. And the application I am going to develope needs to use MS SQL Server 2000 Developer or Student edition.
I only mange to create these below table and I am not sure if this is the correct way to doing it.
The tables name:
tbl_TEAM: ID, StudentNumber, Name, Surname, Active tbl_LEAGUE: ID, LeagueName, Active tbl_WEEKS: ID, WeeksName, Active tbl_FIXTURE: GameID, HomeTeam, VisitorTeam, Active tbl_REFFERE: ReferreID, ReffereName, ReffereSurname, Active tbl_OBSERVER: ObserverID, ObserverName, ObserverSurname, Active
The apliccation will create a fixture via user and then must assign reffere to each game. After the game the observer sends in the game report and user will use the report and assign the points for reffere.
Then Reffere sends the their reports and the application will assign the Goal, yellow card and Red card points to team member.
If any team member recevice 4 yellow card in total and not in one game then application will producea report to say this member team reach the point and have to sit one week and makes his yellow card points to zero. But in the end I have to know how much each team member had yellow card or red car in tottal.
If team member has goal he get 1 point and must show where is the goal. Because sometime they can make mistake and they have goal to their own teams net.
I am not sure if I can explaind correctly so I need help to develope the application and I am very new to soccer game as well as I don't know how to design the database.
Can anyone help me out to over come my SQL problem so I can finish my project before this christmas.
We had some problems in deploying the reports to the client. Previously we used to deploy the reports in our development environment through reporting project but now we need to physically deploy the reports to the client on 14 different servers. We don't have access to the reporting project on site. Is there any way to deploy the reports outside reporting project?
I have created some reports in BIDS and saved them to a folder in my m/c (without deploying them) . i want to deploy that to the report server through C# code.
i can deploy that onto any Report Server. For that I will have to change the datasource connection string.
Is there a way to achieve this. Please let me know if it is there.
Hello, This is my first project at the company I recently joined. It is the most challenging project I ever had.
It is a kind of web-scheduler. it let you save appointments which could be one time or periodic. For example, it could be like every monday, every other monday, first tuesday every monday, and so on.
once they are saved, it should be able to display only those appointments the user have on a specific day.
I'd like to know how database has to be designed to meet such a challenging requirement? I'd like to hear anything from you if you have had similar project before.
In my SQL Server Express (that is installed in my Windows XP Pro PC), SQL Server 2005 Network Configuration has Protocols for SQLEXPRESS. I tried to do "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express: (1) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections", I got an error "An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service, (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo) Additional information: Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). (2) If I clicked on "Surface Area Configuration for Features, I got a different error "Computer localhost does not exist on the network, or the computer cannot be configured remotely. Verify that the remote computer has the required computer has the required Windows Management Instrumentation components and then try again. (SQLSAC) Additional Information: An exception occurred in SMO while trying to manage a service. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo). Failed to retrieve data for this request. (Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum) The operation could not be completed. (WinMgmt). Please help and tell me how I should do to get "Enabling CLR Integration" in my SQL Server Express done and how I can create SQLCLR Project in VB 2005 Express.
In my office computer network system (LAN), my Windows XP Pro PC has SQL Server Express and VB 2005 Express installed and I was granted to have the Administrator priviledge to access SQL Server Express. I tried to create a SQLCLR project in my terminal PC. 1) I tried to set up a remote connection to SQL Server Express in the following way: SQL Server EXpress => SQL Server Surface Area Configuration. In the Surface Area Configuration for Service and Connection - local, I clicked on Remote Connection of Database Engine, SQLEXPRESS and I had a "dot" on "Local and remote connections" and "Using TCP/IP only". Then I clicked on "Apply" and "OK" buttons. Then I went to restart my database engine in SQL Server Management. When I went to check SQL Server 2005 Surface Area Configuration, I saw the arrow is pointing to "Service", not to "Remote Connections"!!!??? Is it right/normal? Please comment on this matter and tell me how I can have "Remote Connecton" on after I selected it.
2) After I restarted the database engine (I guess!!), I executed the following project code (copied from a book) in my VB 2005 Express:
//////////////--Form9.vb---/////////////////

I am a new Microsoft VS.NET Express user to do the SQL Server 2005 Express and VB 2005 Express programming by using the example of a tutorial book. Please help and tell me what is wrong in my SQLCLR sep-up and project coding and how to correct the problems.
Hi all, I have read/studied (i) Working with Databases in Visual Web Developer 2005 Express in http://quickstarts.asp.net/QuickStartv20/aspnet/doc/data/vwd.aspx, (ii) Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165716.aspx, (iii) User Instances for Non-Administrators in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143684.aspx, and (iv) Embedding SQL Server Server Express in Applications in http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms165660.aspx. I do not understand the concepts and procedures to do Xcopy and User Instances for non-administrators completely-I do not know how to connect to databases and create database diagrams or schemas using the Database Explorer. I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC. I have created a ChemDatabase with 3 dbo tables in the SQL Server Management Studio of my SQL Server Express and a website of my VWD Express application with an App_Data folder. I am not able to proceed to use Xcopy and user instance to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase to my App_Data folder. Please help and give me some detailed procedures/instructions to bring the 3 dbo tables of ChemDatabase (or ChemDatabase itself) from the SQL Server Management Studio Express to the App_Data folder of the website of my VWD Express project? Thanks in advance, Scott Chang

For some reason in a Team Foundation Team Project that has multiple project types (SSRS, SSIS, WebSite, C# Business DLL...), the SSIS project makes itself the startup project to the team project. If I explicitly set another project as the startup project to the team project and then select an SSIS package in the SSIS project in the team project, the SSIS project becomes the startup project automatically.
I'm a beginner to Report Services, and have tons of questions.
Here's the first one:
if the reports are created based on the condition that the user selects, how can I create the reports with Report Services?
For example,
the user can select the fields that will be shown on the reports, as well as the group fields, the sort fields and restrict fields. So I would not be able to pre-create all possible reports and deploy them to the report server, and I think I should create the reports dynamicly based on what the user select.
Could someone tell me how to do it (create and deploy the reports)?
I am new to this type of programming and and have read all articles on adding an image to the database and it seems they all use sql queries to add an image but I want to add an image at design time. I am using Visual Basic 2005. I am also using Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition to try the same thing. I am trying to build a Translator program for english to Brazilian Portuguese and the reason I want to add the images is so that when I translate the word cat from english to Portuguese, I can also show an image of a cat. Can anyone please help me
Does any body know that creating free form rports using Report Builder is possible?
Free-form report - in the sense - that user should be able to drag the fields from the leftside fields pane and drop on body as we do in report designer using BI studio.
I could not figure out a way to do so. Is this a limitation?
Will the 2005 Express Edition support big websites or do I have to upgrade to another edition? The website I'm currently building is an advertise site, and lets say it will at some point be up to 1000-5000 visitors (or even more) online on the website, searching for ads or adding ads.Can the Express Edition handle this? Or should i use MySQL instead?
Hi, When using an Access Project 2002 connected with SQL Server Express in OLE DB it's impossible to work in creation mode. A message explains that this Access version is not compatible with this SQL version. Is there a service pack ?
I have conntected an Access 2003 project to a database in SQL Express and when I try to create a new view or stired procedure I get the message
This version of Microsoft Access doesn't support design changes with the version of Microsoft SQL Server your project is connected to. See the Microsoft Office Update Web site for the latest information and downloads (on the Help menu, click Office on the Web). Your design changes will not be saved.
Is it a limitation or have I not got the appropriate permissions set up

In SQL Management Studio Express, is there any wany to save the "solution" consisting of the set of queries that I have open at a point in time?
I generally have 10 views I switch back and forth between to monitor a bunch of data load processes, and it would be helpful to be able to return to the same setup next time I login.
Hello guys! I have to develop a new web based project. It's a web portal for events. At the moment it's runnung on an Access database. The new version should be running on a SQL server - the desicion is: MSDE 2000 or SQL Server 2005 Express (Beta). What do you recommend? The webpages are developed under .NET 1.1.
I installed SQL Server Express 2005 and was able to install the sample databases. I have been working through the on-line tutorial. In Lesson 4 of the tutorial it instructs you to select File, New, Project. However, when I select File, New there is no Project choice listed. Have I failed to install something correctly?
I have a stand-alone Windows XP Pro PC that has SQL Server Express (SSE) and Visual Web Developer Express (VWDE) programs. The Microsoft "pubs" Database is installed in the SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE). I created a website in my VWDE program. I need the .mdf file of the pubs Database in the App_Data folder of website of my VWDE project. I think that User Instance in my SSE is established. I have studied Xcopy Deployment (SQL Server Express) and User Instance for a quite a while and I still do not know where and how to use Xcopy to get the mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project. Please help and give me the detailed key steps/instructions about where and how to get the .mdf file of the pubs database into the App_Data folder of the website of my VWDE project via Xcopy.
I have a sql2005 express database I am using in a vb2005 application. I have read a bunch and can't seem to find a clear (to me) example of how to call a stored procedure. I have a procedure that runs ok in the query builder, but don't have a clue about how to call it now that it is written. SO. call the database MYdatabase call the Stored procedure MYStoredproc. Any help? Dave PS: it dosen't require and values passed to it, its very simple.
I started working with Visual Basic 2008 and created a local database that I would like to use in a Visual Basic 2005 project. When I attempt to open the local .sdf file, I get the following error:
"You are trying to access an older version of SQL Server Compact Edition database. If this is a SQL Server CE 1.0 or 2.0 database, run upgrade.exe. If this is a SQL Server Compact Edition 3.0 or later database, run Compact/Repair. [Db version=3505053, Requested version=3004180...."
Where do I find upgrade.exe or the Compact/Repair utility?
Are there any other migration tools you would recommend?
