When I try I get an SQL error 53. Do not have permissions or database does not exist.

I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.
But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013. The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.
I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

Hi,
I have written a database application using .mdf in visual studio 2005 using vb.net (Windows XP sp2)
The app runs fine on the local machine. But I want to access the database from another computer (remote connection)
My Questions:
1. How to host the database file (mydb.mdf) on server machine?
2. How does connection string change on the client side?
Any other idea?
THanks!!

I just installed SQL Server Management studio express. I am trying to remotely connect to a SQL Server Express 2005 remotely. I was given the server name, user name and password, and used SQL Server authentication. It connected fine, and I was able to get at the intended database.
I then went to ODBC data sources to add this SQL server using SQL authentication. I entered the server, user and password, and I got a nebulous "could not connect" error. I thought is may be because I still was connected in SQL Server Management studio express, so I closed it and tried again with the same error. I then reopened SQL Server Management studio express and tried to reconnect, and got the same nebulous error, and have not been able to connect since.
I tried rebooting and reinstalling SQL Server Management studio express, but had the same result. Does anyone have any idea what I may have done and how to undo?
Thanks,
Steve Colino

I have a SQL Server 2005 database hosted by a provider that has about 500 databases on their site. I am running Access2007 on a Windows 7 Home Premium edition.
What I am trying to do is create a new Access2007 application and attach (i.e: Link) to the SQL Server tables. I am using SQL Authentication.
I have done this before where i attached via ODBC to Oracle, but it was on the corporate network - not on a hosted server. When i try to walk thru the Access process, it does not seem to let me give it the database name. I have the connection string i use in C# (for example: Data Source, Initial Catalog, UserID and Password), how to connect with Access2007.

Ok, lets see if I can put what I am looking for into words.
I run a MSSQL server, I show in my logs that a connection is being made to my server from a remote ip. I have contact the owner of the ip in question and they state that they have no buisness with us and they should not be connected to us. According to netstat the connection to us is established on 2 different remote ports to 1433. My question, is there any logging on sql that I can turn on, look at to see what database this connection is accessing? Thanks

I am very new to VB.Net but my goal is to build a web app that ineracts with an Access database. This is a very small scale app so I am not interested in using SQL server. I created my Access database and the udl file for connection information.
I created a class that opens a connection to the database when the webpage loads.
I get the following error though,
System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException was unhandled by user code
ErrorCode=-2147467259
Message="The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'C:InetpubwwwrootTest1RaceData.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data."

The database is not open so I know it is a matter of security. I have configured IIS to use an admin account and the Access db does not have security turned on. In the UDL file I have selected read/write access and the test connection works.
Can anyone help me narrow down the root of this error,
Thanx in advance,
Chris

Hi,
I have an app that creates and attaches tables from SQL Server into an Access mdb using an ODBC link from VB6 using DAO 3.51 on Windows 2000. Recently I upgraded to SQL Server Express edition and tested it. It worked fine against the Express Edition. So, I installed SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on our Server hoping that they operate identically. How wrong one can be! the same code that worked against Express Edition does not work on Standard Edition.
It is strange that the App works for about 5 seconds which attaches about 38 tables and after that the connection drops and I have a hell of a time to get the rest of the tables linked. The error that comes up is:
Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 10060
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]ConnectionOpen (connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState: '08001'
SQL Server Error: 11
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][TCP/IP Sockets]General network error. Check your network documentation.
The PC that I am using to connect is in a different domain to the Server where the SQL Server database resides. I thought that domains might be the reason. But even joining the PC to the same domain as the server still does not work and behaves the same. So I do not think it is a domain related issue.
I have also looked at the SQL Server and database configurtaions. I cannot see anywhere any specific time out of around 5 seconds. Even the time out through the SQL Server ODBC driver is set to 30 seconds by default as far as I know. So, it looks like there is a time out somewhere but I am absolutely confused as to where this 5 second time out is comming from.
I also thought permissions on the database or tables might be the issue but after looking at the database and table permissions, they all look OK. The user has prettymuch the same access as the SA on the database.
Has anybody came across this problem? If so, I appreciate if someboday can give me a hint as to where I can start.
Thanks,

Hi, I'm fairly new to the asp.net enviroment.. I have a project in asp.net and I need to upgraded to asp.net 2.0... I just did that, and the few errors that I got are resolved already, the only error that I have not been able to figure out is when I tried to retrieve data from a database I get the following error:
An error has ocurred while establishsing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.(provider:Named Pipes Provider, error:40- could not open a connection to SQL Server) and it points to the following line:
Dim ds As DataSet = Microsoft.ApplicationBlocks.Data.SqlHelper.ExecuteDataset(ConfigurationManager.AppSettings(GlobalD.CfgKeyConnString), CommandType.StoredProcedure, "PG_LST_MENU_BY_SUBJECT")
As I said before my project with the previous version works fine, and this is the only part that is giving me trouble...
thank you

I just got a shared hosting plan with godaddy (economy plan) ...
I wrote a simple application with a database. it works fine on my local PC.
I tried to upload my files to the server, but i couldn't get database file on godaddy's server. I did a little research and found out they dont allow uploading database files to their server nor they allow remote access either.
so I logged in to my account and found a database links and I created one (SQL Server)
Host Name
whsql-v44.prod.mesa4.secureserver.net
Database Name
DB_43434
Database Version
2000
Description
maindb
I then logged in to the database and created a new table .. but now I dont know how to make a connection between this database and my application on my pc.
I later found that I must modify my web.config file for the database to work. http://help.godaddy.com/article.php?article_id=689&topic_id=216&prog_id=GoDaddy&isc=
<connectionStrings><add name="Personal" connectionString="Server=whsql-v04.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net;Database=DB_675;User ID=user_id;Password=password;Trusted_Connection=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /><remove name="LocalSqlServer"/><add name="LocalSqlServer" connectionString="Server=whsql-v04.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net;Database=DB_675;User ID=user_id;Password=password;Trusted_Connection=False" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" /></connectionStrings>
Now- I am new to web developing, but I do understand that this code is not enough to create the connection to the database. I researched alot but I cant get further.
What code/ settings/ steps do I need to do to get my gridview and other database items connect to the database on godaddy's server ?
any help would be greatly appreciated...

I can telnet into the machine on the sql server port, so I know its open to me...
Also - when I publish this to an IIS server, what is the syntax for placing the connection and port number in web.config? I've tried various settings, cant get it to work. <appSettings><add key="con" value="Server=12.123.123.123;PORT=1234;UID=*****;PWD=*****;database=mydb" /></appSettings>

Good day.
I am trying to look at a friends database that they have developed. Not having used SQL Server Express before I am experiencing problems trying to remotely connect to their database.
He connects locally just fine of course.
I get the error message about remote connectionsand the default settings so I have enabled TCP/IP and Named Pipes as well as cleared SQLSERVER Express in my firewall settings. I also stopped and restarted the service, but still get the same error message.
My connection parameters are like:
Server type: Database Engine
Server name: http://sql.exampledatabase.net (should http be here? have tried with and without same error)
Authentication: SQL Server Authentication (windows authentication? If so, how do I change to such?)
Login: http://username (should http be here? have tried with and without same error)
Password: password
TITLE: Connect to Server
------------------------------
Cannot connect to http://sql.exampledatabase.net
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 53)
Any help would be much appreciated.

create a new Connection Manager by right-clicking in the Connection Managers section of the design area of the screen. Select New OLE DB Connection to bring up the Configure OLE DB Connection Manager dialog box. Click New to open the Connection Manager. In the Provider drop-down list, choose the Microsoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider and click OK.
Browse to the Access database file and connection set up---all good!!!
Dataflow task
Add an OLE DB Source component
Double-click the icon to open the OLE DB Source Editor. Set the OLE DB Connection Manager property to the Connection Manager that I created . Select Table from the Data Access Mode drop-down list.
I cannot see the tables set up as set up as pass-through table types to a Oracle 9i db

Hi, all. I am using VS.NET 2005 and SQL Server 2005 Express. I tried to use the following code to connect to a database named "AMSPROD" that I attached to SQL Server 2005 Express:
dbConn = new OleDbConnection(Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAMSPROD_Data.MDF";Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True);
dbConn.Open();
I got an error asking for provider with the above connection string, then I changed the conncection string to be like follows:
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataAMSPROD_Data.MDF";Provider=SQLNCLI;Integrated Security=True;Connect Timeout=30;User Instance=True
I got error: No error message available, result code: DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED(0x80040E21)
Then I changed the Provider to be like: Provider=SQLOLEDB, now I am getting the following error:
Message: "Invalid authorization specification
Invalid connection string attribute"
Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client"
StackTrace: " at System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnectionInternal..ctor(OleDbConnectionString constr, OleDbConnection connection)

Strange thing is, when I use the Connect To Database under Tool menu of VS.NET 2005, I could make the connection to this database. Then I copied this connection string to the code, the connection couln't be made. I feel very confused.
I am wondering if I need to add ASP.NET user to SQLExpress. But I don't know how to do it?
Can anyone please help me out! Many thanks!

Off course, I have the .sdf file on Pocket PC which is placed to Storage Card into root directory.

Hi all,
I am stuck with a problem using ASP.Net website. I created a website which accesses a database table in SQL Server 2005. The default.aspx is a form which inserts/updates/deletes data from the database. After creating the website I published it to IIS (Inetpub -> wwwroot). When I use Visual Studio 2005 and build the website and start with debugging. the form comes up and i can insert/update or delete the data from the table as I want. Now, as I have the website published I can access the form from another sharepoint website using the url as
/Employee_Data/Default.aspx">http://<mydesktop>/Employee_Data/Default.aspx
the form shows up but I am not able to access any of the database. I do not see any errors either. Once I click on the button the page just refreshes but nothing else happens. I have my web.config as :-
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<configuration>
<appSettings/>
<connectionStrings/>
<system.web>
<compilation debug="true"/>
<authentication mode="Windows"/>
</system.web>
</configuration>
Am I missing something? I even have Anonymous access in the IIS inetpub properties. I can even the database as I am the administrator..... I appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks,
Kavya

Hello
We have 1 machine running SQL Server 2005 x64 (64 bit). The other machine is backing this SQL Server up. It is a 32-bit machine, so it requires (?) a 32-bit version of SQL Server 2005.
Would this back-up machine work correctly on a database previously managed by a 64-bit machine and vice versa.
Thank you!
