Mar 17, 2008I have a report that I want users to navigate to and I want them to see the parameters of the report, but I don't want them to be able to change them. Is this possible?

View 3 RepliesHi everyone,
I am new to reporting services and really need some help..
Im trying to simply my requirement using this scenario: Lets say
I want to display Sales for the current year (i.e from the start of the year january to the month we are currently at). The next requirement is to group these sales, by Area , Region , Zone...
Top leve l = Zone , then Region then Area.
I need the user to be able to control this using a parameter (i.e User can select "View Area Level" or "View Region Level" or "View Zone level")
How can this best be achieved ?
My idea was using row groupings and controling visibility using the parameter.. The problem is.. If i want to view ONLY the area level and not see anything above, can I turn visibility off of the Zone and Region and still see the inner group (area)
Area Level (default view)
Jan Feb
Area 1 100 100
Area 2 200 200
Region Level Selected
Reagion 1
Area 1 100 100
Region 2
Area 2 200 200
Zone Level Select
Zone 1
Region 1
Area 1 100 100
Region 2
Area 2 200 200
Any help would REALLY be appreciated ..
Kind Regards,
Neil
I've been building and testing my reports and have found that if I decide that a report parameter should be removed, removing the parameter causes the report to fail.
If I remove a report parameter via the 'Report Parameters' menu, and I also remove the associated data dimension, filter expression and parameter check boxes, when I preview the report I get an error message. It appears the report is searching for the old parameter name even after it has been deleted.
This leaves me with the option of either restoring the parameter as it was, or rebuilding the report from scratch. I've done some investigation and the parameters seem to exist within the XML code that underlies the report despite the parameters being deleted.
Is there a way to avoid this problem?
I just converted several SSIS packages from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012. The packages having issues are those that are SSAS process cube tasks.
When editing the tasks in SSDT for SQL 2008, there is "Change Settings" button/option. In SSDT 2012, there is no Change Settings option!
What happened to it? Even when creating new packages, this option is not available.
I have defined a variable varFileName and when I go to the Expression Builder in my Connection Manager Properties I can't see it and even when I type the name it says the variable is not existent or in a different scope. I have set the scope to be the very same package, that's for sure. Can anybody please tell me, as I can't solve this mistery, why the Builder does not see the var???

I am creating a report where there are 3 tables in one report which have visibility set as an expression so that when a certain criteria is selected in the "Report" parameter, a different table is shown below. Â This works as expected.
When table 3 is shown, I want a new parameter to be visible to the user called "Ward" where the user will select the ward they are interested in and the table will display data below just for the ward selected.  However, I don't want the ward parameter visible when either of the other 2 options are selected. Is this possible and how to do this?Â
Can I change the SQL statement on a linked report without modifying the original? I'm trying to limit a category by userid. I basically want to add an additional line to the where clause. Any ideas?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition and then executed SP2. So, when I try to move master database to another place, I don't obtain to change the Startup Parameters, because the instance SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) in SQL Server 2005 Services in the SQL Server Configuration Manager isn't shown. I observed that if not execute the SP2 the instance SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) is shown.
What it can is happening ?
Somebody knows some thing on this?
Please, somebody could help me ?
Thanks,

Hello,
I would like to change the active user in a stored procedure
Ex. :
I'm logged on sql as "userA".
I call the stored procedure "spGetInfo".
In the first line of "spGetInfo" I would like to do something like "su poweruser", query some data and do "su system_user"
Is there anything like the unix "su" command in SQL ?
Thank a lot

I have a query that will return one record as its results if you provide two variables: @login and @record_date. This works great if you only want one result. However, now what I want to do is not provide those variables and get the result set back for each login and record_date combination. The hitch is that there are several other variables that are built off of the two that are supplied. Here is the query:
DECLARE @login char(20), /*This sets the rep for the query.*/
@record_date datetime, /*This is the date that we want to run this for.*/
@RWPY decimal(18,2), /*This is the required wins per year.*/
@OCPW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities closed per week.*/
@OACW decimal(18,2), /*This is opportunities advanced to close per week.*/
@TOC decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in close.*/
@OANW decimal(18,2), /*This is opportunities advanced to negotiate per week.*/
@TON decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in negotiate.*/
@OADW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities advanced to demonstrate per week*/
@TOD decimal(18,2), /*This is the total number of opportunities in demonstrate.*/
@OAIW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities advanced to interview per week.*/

@OCW decimal(18,2), /*This is the opportunities created per week.*/
@TOA decimal(18,2) /*This is the total number of opportunities in approach.*/

Hi,I have an on screen control to select data from a table. Here are the parameters for the select: <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="bezlan" Name="recievername" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="bezlan" Name="recieversname" />this works perfectly if I sign in as bezlan <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="User.Identity.Name" Name="recievername" />
<asp:Parameter DefaultValue="User.Identity.Name" Name="recieversname" /> this doesnt pick up any data at all if I sign in as bezlan. Why is this? Is there a special bit of code I need for parameters? Thanks,Jon
I have a stored procedure that works fine in reporting services. It grabs the total of Yes's and No's by dates . But then i went ahead and added 2 more parameters to the proc, and now the totals are all wrong. I dont understand how that can mess everything up. Here is the previous stored proc, that gives the correct sum.

HI,
I m swagatika and working on a s/w company.I am facing some problem in MS SqlServer2005.
my problem is:-
i installed sql server2005 completely .At the install time , i set the username='xyz' and password=blank (windows authentication mode).
Now i want to change my user account to 'sa' and password to blank.
After installation, how to change the user account and password.
Please can anybody help me ?
SQL Server 2005 Express will not allow me to change the password for my login user. I tried deleting the user and re-creating the user. Another password is being put in although the password I put in was accepted. I even test to see what would happen if I left the password blank. It got accepted. But when I look at the password for my login user again, a different and much longer password was put in. I even tried this T-SQL statement:
CREATE LOGIN <loginname> WITH PASSWORD='<passwordname>', CHECK_EXPIRATION = OFF, CHECK_POLICY = OFF
I am out of ideals. Is this a bug?
Hi,
I'm new in all this, I have sql server 2005 and have a problem I need let access to more users to the database, in the properties page of my DB I hava a Number of user field with 5, how can change this to up number?
I hope can help me.
I have an sql query that has specific criteria (like state='PA' orstate = 'NJ'...) and would like to be able to have the user specifythe criteria dynamically either through the web or from MSAccess oranother tool. The query also does a GROUP BY the state and other variables that arepart of the criteria.I know how to get MSAccess and asp pages to do the sorting andselecting against an SQL tbl or view, but when access queries the sameinfo as the original sql view, the process takes much longer than whenthe sql view does all of the sorting, selecting and grouping..The table we are currently using is 5 million records and will begrowing to 250 million records shortly, so speed is of the essence. The sql views and MSAccess are both running from the same server sothere is no issue at this point of a network impacting the MSAccessquery.Any suggestions...

Is there a way to change a logins based on domain users, we just changed domains so all the domainlogin logins are not working anymore. Do I have to reapply every security on every database object? There has to be a fix for this, its a common thing.
Any help is greatly appreciated, everything i googled applied to SQL Server 2000 and system tables that dont exist in 2005
My database has a user "dbo" which is dbo of all database objects. The login name for this user is e.g. "Login1". Now I need to change the login name for user "dbo" from "Login1" to a new login name "Login2".
It is not possible to change the related login name of the user "dbo" in the user's properties dialog. And it is also not possible to change or remove the dbo relation in the login name's properties dialog (because a dbo user can not be removed).
Is there any possibility to change the login name of an dbo user? How can I do it?
I have an application that controls user logins, passwords, etc. at the front end for a SQL database. I am in the stage of migrating to SQL2005 and cannot get the TSQL code to allow a user to change their own password. Here's the background;
The ADMIN of the app is a Sysadmin on the SQL server and can create logins, set roles, etc. Assume the Admin creates a user TOM with a password of xxxx. This works fine using the create login statement from a Connect.Execute statement from my app like so;
"Create Login 'TOM' With Password 'xxxx', Default_Database = 'myDB', Check_Policy = OFF"
TOM will be setup with db roles as well
When TOM logins into my app, he will have to change his password at some point. The TSQL code I am using (which fails) is executed by TOM who has a connection to the SQL db because he is logged into the app.
"Alter Login TOM With Password = 'xxxx' Old_Password = 'xxxxx', Check_Policy = OFF"
At this point I get an error:
RunTime error -2147217900 (80040e14)
ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Cannot alter
the login 'TOM', becuase it does not exist or you do
not have permission.
Obviously it exists since TOM is currently logged into the SQL Server. So if it's permissions related, what permissions does a user need to change his/her password? Or is there another way to do it?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Is there a form of ALTER USER or other option that would allow me to change the Windows-based login associated with a user account?
According to BOL, I cannot use the sp_change_users_login trick since I want to rewire up to a Windows login, not a SQL Server login.

Need some guidelines:
I wanted to create a report with parameters. The users will access the reports via
http://localhost/Reportserver/myReportName
Now, each user will have their own default parameters and would like to be stored(somewhere!!!) as "user preference", so nexttime when they access this report it should display data with the "user preference" parameters.
Can someone give me some advise to implement this.
Many thanks.
Hello,
Does anyone know how to pass the userid (domainaccount) of the person runnig the report to the proc underneath. With asp.net calling Crystal Reports, this was simple.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI restored a sql server database today. There is a problem though. In SQL server, right next to the name of the database are the words "Restricted User". Their seem to be some limitations on my access to this database now as I am not able to run some of my C# code against the database. How can I fix this in SQL server so that I am not a Restriced user.
Example of what I am talking about. In SQL server my database is named Gorlaz. Just to the left of this is a yellow Icon that represents the database "Gorlaz". For illustration purposes I will use the character "$" to substitute for the yellow database icon. So this is how it reads in SQL server management studio.
$Gorlaz(Restricted User)

View 1 Replies View RelatedHello,
Does anybody know an easy way to change User Defined Data Types ownership to “dbo”, without dropping dependent objects?
I know that there is a st. proc sp_changeobject owner, but it does not deal with this particular db objects. Is there a similar st.procedure or script that would do the same operation?
Thank you
I built a database by using a generated script from the originaldatabase. It built the System Store Procedures as User type. How do Ichange them back to System type?
