SQLCe Errors When Doing Developing A SQL Mobile Application With Visual Studio 2005 And SQL Server 2005 Tutorial
Feb 26, 2008I'm attempting to use RDA to synchronize a pocket pc emulator with SQL Server 2005 database by following tutorial http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa454892.aspx, which uses AdvWorksMobile database that comes with SQL Server 2005.
When get to testing of "To test application features " ( step 4 of the merge replication setup lab ), I am receiving SQLCe Exception errors.
ORIGINALLY, I was able to deploy an application and view the local database on the emulator, but once I clicked "InitSinc" button, I received an error.
"Failure to connect to SQL Server with provided connection information. SQL Server does not" exist, access is denied because the SQL user is not a valid user on the SQL Server, or the password is incorrect.
Found this error listed in Server Agent Errors log http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms172357.aspx, but it wasn't very helpful since it doesn't provide any suggestions on fixing the problems.
I am brand new to SQL CE Server , mobile programming and .NET framework in general so please bare with me
All the connections / security settings, etc that were set up were taken from a tutorial so I am not sure what SQLCeServer is complaining about. Reading up on the error on the web didn't help, it all pointed to making sure that the snapshot folder had correct permissions set up. I verified that MACHINENAMEUISR_MACHINENAME guest user had Read rights to the database so I don't think that piece is the problem. Otherwise ,Merge publication has been setup in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio by following the tutorial.
I am trying to run this sync on my home pc so there should be no issues with any user permissions
I have IIS installed
I did NOT have SQL Server Agent running in management studio at this time
I am trying to run this tutorial on an XP machine, which is my regular home PC so I dont think there are any special networking settings to consider
I am able to hit http://localhost/AdvWorksMobile/sqlcesa30.dll from my pc OK, but when I try to hit it from a cradled emulator ( after replacing "localhost" with "MACHINE_NAME" ), Internet Explorer on the emulator gives me a "Cannot Connect With Current Settings" error message. This part wasn't part of tutorial but decided so not sure if I am supposed to be able to hit it from my emulator..so I am not sure if the fact that I can't hit it is related to the problem.
AFTER STARTING SQL SERVER AGENTin Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, I killed the application, and after relaunching it, it hits "The Specified table does not exist [Vendor]" error. This time it doesn't even launch first - that is I dont even get to pressing "InitSinc" button. Debugger is showing that this error is hit on the following line in AdvWorksMobile.AddWorksDataSetTableAdapters
int returnValue = this.Adapter.Fill(dataTable);
I am not sure why the errors changed on me after starting SQL Server Agent.
What can I do to fix this connection problem?

Getting Up And Running With Visual SQL Server 2005 Express And Visual Web Developer 2005 Express
Apr 11, 2006I've downloaded and installed both of these (VWD installs both) and have been trying to run through the walkthrough of setting up a web application which supports membership. However, no matter what I do I invariably get errors like the following:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: -1)
I'm concerned why VWD and VSQL express versions don't run correctly out of the box (so to speak). I'm not an expert on configuring these services -- but that's the point of offering these tools to hobbyists: So we can learn about how to make some of these great applications using MS tools.
My configuration::
Windows XP SP2 -- clean machine as of about a month ago, never had any dev tools, web servers, or the like on it.
IIS is installed and the service says its running
VSQL and VWD express versions installed (no errors on installation)
SQL server service indicates it is running
.Net 2.0 framework installed (no errors on installation)
Note: I've tried installing on two separate machines. Obviously I'm missing something fundamental.
Would someone please help me go through the million things I [apparently] need to do to configure all these tools so I can get on to actually coding up my first web application? If this is documented somewhere, all I can say is I tried to find it but it certainly wasn't obvious.

Using Visual Studio 2003 With Sql Server 2000 And Planning To Switch To Sql Server 2005
Aug 24, 2006We have a project already developed iusing VS 2003 Enterprise architect edition using sql server 2000(have lots of table and stored procs etc.)
Now planning to switch to Sql server 2005 are there any issues associated with the switch.
I mean front end programming wise asp.net and vb.net front end codes do they work straight away or need to make any changes to all the front end codes, we are using datasets, data readers calling stored procs and also using lot of hash tables and XML object to make bulk loads to sql server via sqlxml3.0 sp3.

Aug 26, 2007I have a question about a problem that I cannot seem to tackle. I have installed the following programs on Windows Vista:
- SQL Server 2005
- Visual Studio 2008
- SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5
- SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 Server Tools
I want to do the following:
1. I want to create a SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 database in the SQL Server Management Studio
2. I want my SQL Express server in SQL Server 2005 to be a distributor and publisher
About 1. In SQL Server Management Studio I cannot choose SQL Server Compact Edition 3.5 .
ABout 2. I tried to setup my server to be a distrubutor by running a stored procedure with the following name: sp_adddistributor. I get the following error: This edition of SQL Server cannot act as a Publisher or Distributor for replication.
Does anyone have a solution to both problems.
Lost Ability To Manage SQL Server At Server Explorer In Visual Studio .NET

I am no longer able to manage SQL Server at the server explorer in Visual studio. i.e. create, modify and delete for Diagrams, Tables, Views, Stored Procs & Functions. Further more, it missing Diagram and function folder. I can only view or read data.
But I can access local MSDE as usual.

Can't Connect .Net Application From Windows Server 2003 To Database Server (SQL Server 2000)

I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
Here is the Environment:
App Server:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.

DTS: Visual FoxPro To SQL Server

Today was my first day to use DTS. I tried to transfer a Visual FoxPro Database to my SQL Server. I noticed that I am getting errors on the data that contains date fields. So, for testing purposes I transformed the Visual FoxPro fields that contained datefields into char fields. And this works, but obviously I cannot hunt around in a huge database looking for datefields in tables and change them manually. Plus, by changing to char fields I noticed that those fields that are empty are transformed as 1899-12-30. :p
Does anyone have any ideas?

Sep 10, 2007I wrote an application on my home machine using Visual Studio and SQL Server. The application runs fine. This application needed to be installed on a server for a company.
I copied the executable and the library files to the company server. The Machine is a Windows 2003 Small Business Server with SQL Server engine installed already. So I installed SQL Server Express to be able to use the Engine and build my database on the server.
When I ran the executable it would not connect to the server even though I changed the settings in the connection string to the sql server on the SBS Server.
I installed Visual C# Express on the machine to debug the application and I can not get the data source to connect to the SQL Server.
I get the following error
SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified

Oct 13, 2006Yes I am a newby (or is that newbie) and this is my first post.My Visual Web Developer site work really well on my PC, I read the books took it slowly, created logins and sql tables and then found a good hosting company with Server 2005 ... I though I was one step away from the road to success ... then I hit the big brick wall. Spent hours on Google trying to find some answers without joy ... all I found were lots of users with the same or similar problems ... and some answers that caused more problems !1) Please can someone give my a 'step by step' idiots guide on how to convert my ASPNETDB.MDF content to run on Server 2005. I have Server Management Studio so I am happy about loading the translated files but I don't understand how to break them down into tables and logs.2) Once the files are across can I run a connection string from VWD directly to the tables on the server instead of SQL local ? I assume that is set in web.config !!.... normally I am happy to learn by trial and error. But I can't get around or over this brick wall.Welcome assistance, advice or a ladder ... with simple instructions ?

i have built a web project in visual studio, and i have an instance of sql server express running. when i try to access a database(which is located in the file system) through the web project, i get the following message:

Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Unable to open the physical file "C:dbSAMdbSAM.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:dbSAMdbSAM.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
i am running visual studio 2005 professional, on windows XP pro with IIs installed. i also have a report server on the same sql server instance.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Visual FoxPro Linked Server
Jun 19, 2007I am trying to add a FoxPro linked server to MS SQL 2005, and I can't seam to create a linked server that works. What am I doing wrong in linking the server?
I have an ODBC connection that worked but not OLEDB; how can I do this with OLEDB (either VFPOLEDB or Jet, if it will work) and not ODBC.
This is what I thought was right

Also I know in MS SQL 2000 once you linked a server you could view it in EM, but when I linked the VFP via ODBC I could query agianst it, but I could not open it in Mangament Studio.

Application Insist Open SQL Server 2005 While The Host Still With SQL Server 2000
Mar 12, 2007I don't know why my application on the internet try to access the SQL Server 2005, when the host still having the 2000 edition. I put the following connection string:
Data Source=##DBSERVER##;Initial Catalog=##DBNAME##;User ID=##DBUSER##;Password=##DBPASSWORD##;
Isn’t everything fine with that? I created the table by host but dosen’t work. I’m wondering if can I conect straight with Data Base, without register in the server, like with mdb?
This is the error that I’m getting.

MSDTC - Remote Accessing SQL Server 2005 From A Desktop Application - Windows 2003 Server

I am developing a windows application that needs to communicate with a remote SQL server 2005 database. Server allows remote connections and MSDTC service also running. Do I need to run MSDTC service on the client machine where I use desktop application ? any ideas ? It's throwing some error like

I'moving my asp application to a new hosting server.
So when i tried the setup locally with the live DB & application in my test machine...
The DB access is denied when application tries to hit the DB.
DB is in seperate machine with SQL Server 2000 & application(ASP) is in Windows server 2003.....
Kindly help me with your suggestions....on what went wrong?

"Database schema could not be retreived for this connection. Please make sure the connection settings are correct and that the database is online. This server version is not supported. You must have Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and later"
If possible, how can I connect to the SQL Server 7 as I have a small project to complee and all the data and tables exist on our SQL Server 7 installation.

Feb 20, 2005I've downloaded and installed the latest VFPOLEDB (12/04) on 2 separate SQL Server boxes.
In both cases, If I connect to SQL Server with Query Analyzer as (local) while on a box, the linked server to my foxpro database works fine with openquery().
However, If I'm at one box and attached to SQL Server on the other box, the openquery() fails.
Here's some particulars:

Linked Server For Visual Foxpro (DBF) Table

How can i create a linked server for Microsoft Visual Foxpro databases ?
I'm using Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 driver.
I success create a linked server, and can browse all tables from linked server connections, but why when query data using
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(PIP_TEST,'select * from tbctrl')
It getting error message
Cannot process the object "select * from tbctrl". The OLE DB provider "Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0" for linked server "pip_test" indicates that either the object has no columns or the current user does not have permissions on that object.
