In SQL sERVER 2008, I have two fields - Depatment and Employees. I need to sort the result set by employee number ascending order, with following exception
1)when department number = 50 - the preferred order is Employee # - 573 followed by 551-572 (employee # belong to Dept 50 = 551-573)
2)When Department number = 20 – the preferred sort order is Employee # 213-220, followed by Employee # 201-213 (employee # belong to Dept 20 = 201-220)
I am wanting to set up a trigger on our SQL server 2000 to create a sequential order line number in the OrderDetails table for OrderID.
I will be inserting data from an OrderLinesAdd table into the OrderLines table but want the LineNumber field to be incremented by 1 for each group of orders grouped by OrderID that I insert into the table eg.
I have just started using SQL so am not sure how I go about writing the code for the trigger ? It would seem like I will need to use the Max function in the code.
I have a table of transaction that includes student ids and dates. I need to select all records from the table and include a new value that is the sequential transaction numbered for each student with the oldest transaction for each student being numbered one, the next oldest numbered two and so on. So the result should look like student1, 10/1/2000, 1, student1, 10/15/2000, 2, student1, 2/12/2001, 3, student2, 9/1/1999, 1, student2 10/2/2000, 2, student2 , 12/15/2000, 3, student2, 11/4/2001, 4 and so on.
Hello,I am trying to begin a transaction is ASP.NET that acts as a temporary lock on a record so that another web user can not gain access to that row of information. My problem is that when I begin the transaction, if the user then closes out of the browser completely, the temporary lock that is put on my table from the transaction does not go away. Further, I have no idea if it will or if there is a time range you can specifiy to do so.What I am wondering is if anyone has ever tried this before, or does anyone have a definite answer to the following question, "If I begin a transaction, and then I do NOT rollback or committ that transaction, will it ever rollback on its own and if so where can I set this time frame?"Thanks in advance for any help.
I have a table containing 1000 records. I do have a primary key associated with the table. But I want to get the Record Number of each record. Is there a way to get it. That means for first record it should be 1 and so on and so forth.
I am working on a query that needs to return the record order number with the most recent requested delivery date.
It seems to work most of the time, but I have found some glitches for some of the items.
example is my item 10702, it is showing 2 records (both valid ones) Record 1 is order # 10450-0, requested delivery date 03/21/2014 Record 2 is order # 10510-0, requested delivery date 04/29/2014
I need to only get the records with the most recent delivery date, in this example that would be 04/29/2014
This query is what I have so far:
SELECT s.PriorQuoteNumber ,s.PriorItemNumber ,s.PriorQuoteDate FROM ( SELECT s.SalesQuoteNumberAS 'PriorQuoteNumber'
[code]....
WHERE s.rn = 1What am I missing in my query> how can I change it so it only returns the most recent date?
This procedure has been returning duplicate numbers. (Tested with scripts that called this proc and put value in a table.)
How can it return duplicates? Does the transaction Begin/Commit not guarantee transactional consistency?

happy friday... my table has 200,000 + records and I want to see the particular record which I think it is causing the problem. How could i query 195,203rd record? thank you, yanoroo
I have a table with a field that contains the record number. This field is an identity column that is needed to be compatible with old Clipper programs. I've to ensure continuity in the numbering. So I have to update those numbers each time one or several records are deleted. I was thinking of using a trigger but I'm quite novice in this domain and don't know how to do it. Does anyone have a solution for this problem ?
Hiwhen inserting records into a table one of the fields is a date field. I am using the GETDATE() function to insert the date as the record is being inserted.when i retrieve an entire record from the table i want to be able to select this date, but also to get the number of days it has been since that record was inserted.eg: 3 daysif the record was inserted less than one day ago (<24 hrs ago) i would like it to return the number of hours. e.g. 22 hrsi dont want hours to be displayed if the days is >= 1.please can anyone guide me with this?thanks!
I am new to SQL Server (coming from Oracle background) and have a large table I need to loop thru and assign a number 1 thru 5 on each record.
below is an example of how I would do it in Oracle.
declare num number := 1; cursor c_rec is SELECT rowid, t.* FROM temp t order by t.column; begin for d_rec in c_rec loop update temp set column = to_char(num)
Hi I have a Table with Automatic ID numbers...In access I delete All records by handWhen I add new record with delphi (SQL)the number ID of record count begin with last record+1and not with 0Someone know the statement to reset that?thanx for any help
We are having trouble figuring out how to create a view for this scenario:
We have a status log table that holds an order number, statusdatetime, and statuscode. This table will have multiple status' for the same order number. I want to create a view that will give me the most current status (by statusdatetime) of each order number. This view would show: order number, statusdatetime, and statuscode.
I have datagrid that needs to display a log table which has more than million records. Since it it huge number, it is not possible to get dataset using "select * from log_table" to fill and to bind to datagrid. Is there anyway to display first 100 rows on first page and show next 100 rows if use clicks on page 2?Thank you very much in advance!Justin
I€™m working on a database project that will ultimately contain millions of records for each lot. In addition, each lot will have up to 96 corresponding serial number records.
I would like to add a SQL parameter that would tell the database engine to only return X number of records.
For Example: If table TBL_LOTS contains one million records I would like to limit the return set to 100 for example.
What would I need to add to the SQL command to below to restrict the data set to the first 100 records in the set of one million?
SELECT [LOT NUMBER] FROM TBL_LOTS WHERE [STATMENTS]
Do anybody know how can I find or display to the current SQL server 2005 record number (eg. 10 of 1600) on a VB 2005 form label. The BindingNavigator on the form has been deleted. Thanks.
can someone pls show me a way to get an unique sequence at below senario:
PC1 & PC2 using their own local client progam to access to Database Server at SERVER1. In the SERVER1, there is a table SEQUENCE in a database DATABASE1. And the table's structure of SEQUENCE are SeqType & SeqNo. Here is the sample data:
SeqType SeqNo Invoice 100 DeliveryOrder 200
Now, how to prevent PC1 & PC2 to get a same Invoice No. if they request the Invoice No. at the same time? Is it possible to lock the record Invoice when i perform a SELECT statement, then i update the Invoice to 101, lastly release the lock for Invoice?
Can anyone help me figure out how to set up a new table using SSIS with a record field that will generate a unique number? The record number is also the primary key in the table. I did this about a year ago with a bit of help, but once you get the language right and initiate the creation, the text for defining the table is no longer available. I have seen a lot of references for MySQL and MS SQL 2000 and an AUTO_Generate or a UNIQUE ID. None of this works within MS SQL 2005 in SSIS.
I have sql code that returns the correct number of record when run without an aggregate function like count(myfield) and group by myfield. It always returns 86 row which is correct when Select DISTINCT is used. As, expected when DISTINCT is not used I get double the number if rows or 172. But when I count(myfield) and group by myfield the count is 172 and not 86. The strangest thing about this is that when I am grouping a set of items
Group 1
Group 2
Group 3
The other group sum up correctly while others don't. What can explain this? Here is the code.
Select DISTINCT ws.p4Districtnumber, ws.cycle, ws.worksetid, count(msi.MeterSessionInputKey) as ASND from fcs.dbo.WorkSet as ws left outer join fcs.dbo.WorkAssignment as wa on ws.WorkSetID = wa.WorkSetID left outer join fcs.dbo.MeterSessionInput as msi on wa.worksetkey = msi.worksetkey
maybe this is not a serious problem, but I tried for days to come toi a solution without success.
My Problem:
I have have several flatfile sources I need to import into a sql-server 2005 DB.
It is very important for me to have the original line number from inside the source file for each record. The rowcount transform doesn't fit in for this task, because it accumulates all rows until the end of the dataflow.
I tried script components and it works fine if i assume there are no errors in my source. then I simply could declare a local variable and count it up and add a custom collumn to my output. But for errors in my source this won't work, because a second script component won't know the actual value of a package level variable, which i use to store the value, because i am only allowed to access this variable in the post execujte method of the script.
I work for an organization that repairs serialized devices. Each time a device is repaired it's serial number is recorded in a database table along with the date it was repaired along with other information about the device. There are multiple cases where a unit has been repaired more than once.
I am trying to write a query that will return the serial only once and that record will be the record of the latest repair date. To sum it up,
Return a list of serials where if a serial exists more than once in the table, return only the instance of the serial record(s) with the max(created_dt). The end result will be a list of distinct serial numbers.
Here is my Query. The problem I believe is in my sub-query but I am not sure how to structure it.
I get this error when I look at the state of my SQLresults object. Have I coded something wrong?Item = In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user. conn.Open() Dim strSql As String
Finding the "pieces of information" I need to successfully install the SQL Server Express edition is so complex. Uninstalls do "not" really uninstall completely, leading to failure of SQL install. Can you suggest a thorough, one-stop site for directions for the order of app uninstalls and then the order for app installs for the following...
SQL Server Express edition
Visual Studios 2005
Jet 4.0 newest upgrade
.Net Framework 2.0 (or should I use 3.0)
VS2005 Security upgrade
Anything else I need for just creating a database for my VS2005 Visual Basic project?
I was trying to use MS Access as my backend db but would like to try SQL Express
I never paid much attention to this before but I noticed this today in a new table I was creating.
For tables defined in the tabular model the table properties have something like SELECT Blah FROM TableName ORDER BY Blah Then in the tabular model the table's data is in the same order it was ordered by in the data source for the table.
I have a date table I setup and I noticed it is NOT respecting the sort order.
I have it sorted by DateID which sorts with the oldest date first and newest date as last row. However, the table that is imported and stored in the data model is not in that order.
I can of course manually sort the rows in BIDS/DataTools, but I find this discrepancy odd.
Would this have negative impacts on the EARLIER function for example if the data rows are not in the order specified?
