Viewing Variable Values That Are Passed In To SSIS
Apr 16, 2008Since SSIS is developed in Visual Studio is there a way to view the variable values as they are passed into SSIS? In Visual Studio I know if you hover over the variable a popup appears with the value in the variable.
I am having an issue with a variable value that is supplied through an "Execute SQL Task" it is a Directory path that is entered in through the application and used to determine where to pick up files to transfer. I have entered in the path using Fully Qualified(D:ImportExportCentralPrinting) and UNC (\SQLDEVELOPImportExportCentralPrinting) through both methods SSIS is telling me no files are available in the directory path. When I know for fact they do exists.
I would really love to see the variable values that are being used can anyone out there help?

Variable Not Getting Updated And Passed Into Data Flow
Dec 12, 2006My package sets a variable in an ExecSQL task. This variable is then used as a parameter in a DataFlow task that follows. Normally everything works just fine. However, sometimes if the package fails inbetween the step that sets the variable and the DataFlow, the default value of the variable is stored in the checkpoint file. (It is not failing in the step that sets the variable) When the package is restarted I can see that the variable is not set to the data value in the database, but rather it has its default (design time) value.
Anyone else see this bug?

SQL Server 2012 :: Using Unions To Write Out Each Select Query As Distinct Line In Output
Aug 20, 2015Basically I'm running a number of selects, using unions to write out each select query as a distinct line in the output. Each line needs to be multiplied by -1 in order to create an offset balance (yes this is balance sheet related stuff) for each line. Each select will have a different piece of criteria.
Although I have it working, I'm thinking there's a much better or cleaner way to do it (I use the word better loosely)
Example:
SELECT 'Asset', 'House', TotalPrice * -1
FROM Accounts
WHERE AvgAmount > 0
UNION
SELECT 'Balance', 'Cover', TotalPrice
FROM Accounts
WHERE AvgAmount > 0
What gets messy here is having to write a similar set of queries where the amount is < 0 or = 0
I'm thinking something along the lines of building a table function contains all the descriptive text returning the relative values based on the AvgAmount I pass to it.

In the below query I have different variable (email, fname, month_last_taken) from same query being assigned to different columns, can i pass all columns to one variable only and then extract that column out of that variable later? This way I just need to write the query once in the complete block.

Declaring A Table Variable Within A Select Table Joined To Other Select Tables In Query

I hope someone can answer this, I'm not even sure where to start looking for documentation on this. The SQL query I'm referencing is included at the bottom of this post.
I have a query with 3 select statements joined together like tables. It works great, except for the fact that I need to declare a variable and make it a table within two of those 3. The example is below. You'll see that I have three select statements made into tables A, B, and C, and that table A has a variable @years, which is a table.
This works when I just run table A by itself, but when I execute the entire query, I get an error about the "declare" keyword, and then some other errors near the word "as" and the ")" character. These are some of those errors that I find pretty meaningless that just mean I've really thrown something off.
So, am I not allowed to declare a variable within these SELECT tables that I'm creating and joining?

I have a back/forward navigation link that passes a URL.startrow number (lets call it n) - based on n - I only want to select the record that is the n'th record based on a sort order (gall_order) - (SQL SERVER).

Multiple Select Values - How Are They Passed?

I had a question about how SRS passes multiple values to a query.
For example:
Say I had a "select box" (Sorry, can't think of the proper term right now) with the following values:
F1
F2
F3
F4
The user then selects F1 and F4.
When SRS passes the selected values to the query or procedure, how are they passed? As a delimited value?
Examples of what I mean:
@Parameter = 'F1', 'F4'
@Parameter = F1 [Some unknown delimiting symbol] F4
@Parameter = 'F1,F4'
Does anyone know how this is done? Or is it done in some other odd way?

I would like to use a Select Case Statement with the name of a column from a SQL Query as the Case Trigger. Assuming the SQLDataSource is named tCOTSSoftware and the column I want to use is Type, it would look like the following in classic ASP:

SQL Datasource Passed To Query String?
Aug 8, 2006I have been attempting to build a search engine that searches a database full of invoices. The user will enter in a invoice number and then the results will be returned if the exact invoice exists and if the record belongs to the user.
My first attempt has involved the use of a SQL Datasource to pass a stored procedure based on what is in the search textbox and the information in the cookie about the user. I was hoping that on the btnsearch.click event that I could somehow return the stored procedure in the SQL DataSource. My next step was to make the result (if exists) part of the query string like this:
Response.Redirect("~/Invoice.aspx?Invoice=?"+ SQLRETURNEDVALUE)
I'm looking for any help to a possible way to use my idea or any other ideas to get a invoice number and place it into a query string so that the result can be fetched on the next page. Thanks

I am using a verylarge database(130M records) in ms sql2000 and think I need to frontend it with access for reports and forms, etc..I have some questions:1) Is there a way in SQL to prompt a user for input at the running ofa query like the [what is your name] construct in an access query?2) I can't seem to create calculated fields in a view in sql. Inaccess I put "total:=hours*rate" and a new column would be createdwhich would contain the total.3) I normally would create a form in access from which the accessqueries would pull their variables and then insert those variables inthe queries or reports, etc. How would this be accomplished usingsql.4) Lastly and probably most basic. How does a "real" sql developercreate reports and forms to interact with the enduser? I am usingaccess as a front end, but am open to suggestions.Thanks,Brad

Jan 8, 2006Each user who inserts a new SQL record from the FormView control needs to have their UserID in one of the fields of the record. I have the user ID stored in the Session("UserID") variable. I am having trouble finding the right way to get this done. I have tried using a hidden text box but I can't seem to assign the value. I have tried the Insert Parameters but that will not accept <%# Session("UserID") %> as a DefaultValue. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks.
