What Report Manager Config Options Are Available If Some RS Users Are Internet And Others Are Intranet?
Jan 2, 2008
If we decide to make Report Manager the UI facing both internet and intranet users, but prefer that our intranet users not face the performance hit created by SSL, and prefer that SSL be turned on for internet users, what options do we have for configuting our RS environment if all users ultimately use the same reports and we wish to keep number of licenses at a minimum?

Hi guys,
I created a user on the system with a limited access privilege (Users group member). I need this user to see only specific reports when he login in to the report manager. I gave him a browser role on the report manager and went to the individual report and remove the permission. However, when this user go to the report manager he is not only browsing but also can do whatever the admin can do. I'm just confused. This user is created with a limited access and provided only a browser role, how can he act like an admin?
Please let me know if I missed something.
Thank you

Hi,
Currently, our Report Builder is running on Local Intranet mode. I'm investigating what the security implications are in changing it to Internet mode. However, I've not been able to find any documentation on this.
Does anyone know of any documentation that addresses this issue or have experience that they can share with changing Report Builder security zone from Intranet mode to Internet mode?
Thanks very much.

Hi,
Does anyone happen to know what authority is required to view the following in Enterprise Manager:
Database Maintenance Plans
Current Activity
SQL Server Logs
When I use EM to log onto SQL Server with a login that does not have sysadmin authority, I do not appear to have these options available when I expand the Management folder. I can find no reference to any specific authorities that are required in Books online and unable to find anything in the Knowledge Base about it either.
I can't believe that sysadmin authority is needed to view these.
Any help would be appreciated.

I installed SQL Server 2012 on a windows server 2012 that had an existing 2008 R2 SQL installation.
After the install I can see only the 32 bit network configuration options in SQL Server Configuration Manager for both versions. Before the install they were available in the 2008 R2 version of the tool.

Hi,I can't seem to connect to SQL 2005. When I open Configuration Manager,these is no information in any of the items in the tree.I checked that WMI was configured correctly at:http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188690.aspxI can't see any instances at all here.However, when I use Management Studio I CAN connect to an instance of SAL2000 and see databases I have previously defined.I'm running WIN 2003 with SQL 2005 standard and login as Administrator. SQLbooks on line don't seem to have anything to say about this.How can I get SQL Server Management Studio to 'see' the SQL 2005 databaseengine so I can create tables? I *think* its running because there is the'sqlservr.exe' process running, and during installation there is no issues.I had SQL2000 server running fine on the windows 2003 box. I then installedSQL 2005 Express. They both worked together fine. I then uninstalled SQL2005 Express and installed SQL 2005 Server. But when I open SQL ServerManagement Studio, I can only connect to the SQL 2000 engine. In the Objectexplorer, it says v8.0.2039 (which I think is SQL 2000 Server, because I cansee the existing SQL 2000 databases).Any help is greatly appreciated...Jack.

We're trying to determine the best way to implement an authentication mechanism for our reporting services solution. Basically, we are exposing a web application to the internet, and allowing a forms authenticated user to access our report server somewhere within our intranet to view reports. I've browsed msdn and found that there are two approaches:
1. create a custom authentication extension for reporting services
2. create a restricted domain user that is allowed to access the report server
Going with approach 2 and assuming I'm using a ReportViewer control, in order to authenticate with the report server (using the one domain user created specifically for report server access), are we supposed to just provide an instance of an object implementing IReportServerCredential containing the domain user information to the Credentials property of the ReportViewer.ServerReport before accessing the report? Is this the correct way to implement approach 2? Also, if implementing approach 2 is so simple compared to approach 1, why would anyone choose to implement custom authentication extension if they don't need fine-grain access control on the report server level?
Thanks for any help and suggestions!

Hello....
I have the following setup: SQL/RS/Sharepoint on a server, ISA 2006 on another server and RS/WSS integration, published to the internet via NTLM / ISA authentication.
Report publishing finally works fine, but I am unable to launch the ReportBuilder through the Internet. Within the intranet works just fine. The error I get in the log when Report Builder starts to download itself is:
+ The remote server returned an error: (407) Proxy Authentication Required.
Any ideas ? Any way to pre-download the ReportBuilder? Any way to set anonymous access to the specific component?
Thanx!

Hi,
I am using SQL 2000 SP4 and Report Server SP2 on W2k3 SP1 Server.
I am having trouble displaying the report pages if I am connected from the Internet.
I have no problem if I am connected in the office (Intranet).
The frame that is not show is underneath the New Subscription bar in my report page. I can see everything above (header pages etc) and Home page etc.
I think for some reasons the request frame URL page is still https://myserver/Repor... instead https://myserver.mycompany.com/Report...
Thank's for any help
gogu
PS: Also I am able to deploy only from the Intranet with Target Server URL https://myserver/ReportServer
If I setup VS.NET deploy Target Server URL https://myserver.mycompany.com/ReportServer it comes up with "A connection could not be made ..."
If I open the Browser from the Intranet I can see the reports pages even if with https://myserver.mycompany.com/Reports...
but it ask me for Username / Password.
How can I tell VS.NET when deploy to use username/password?

Hi all
I'm using sql enterprise manager to access a database which has two users associated to it called 'dbo' and 'user'. I have a login that uses sql authentication also called 'user2' which has been tested and working fine.
From within enterprise manager, when i look at the list of users for my database, 'dbo' is listed as using the 'user2' login to gain access, but the entry for 'user' has no login name listed and is blank, which should be 'user2'. How can I rectify this?

Firstly I should say my Reporting Services were working fine until I changed a setting in IIS today - under the Virtual Directory for the site I clicked Properties>ASP.NET>Edit Configuration. Changed 'Authentication' to Forms and everything went wrong; changing it back to Windows made no difference.
Now when trying to navigate to Report Server / Report Manager I get these errors:
RS : An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. (rsInternalError) Get Online Help Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
RM: The report server is not responding. Verify that the report server is running and can be accessed from this computer.
Following advice found elsewhere on the web, I checked my web.config file for an an erroneous xmlns entry... but it wasn't there. I have also deleted/recreated my virtual directories from within IIS/RSC. Also I have done a basic reinstall of Reporting Services (from within Add/Remove Programs>Change).
Below are my error logs and the listings for my web.config files; hopefully these will be of use in working out where the problem lies - I really need to get this fixed as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

I encounter this error when user try to subscribe using email delivery

Sharepoint integrated mode. This user is a regular user that has read
access to the report item.
Below is the message detail:
A subscription delivery error has occurred. (rsDeliveryError)
A subscription delivery error has occurred. (rsDeliveryError)
One of the extension parameters is not valid for the following reason:
The account you are using does not have administrator privileges. A
subscription cannot be created for [emailaddress].
(rsInvalidExtensionParameter)
Is it true that user needs to have administrator privilege in order to
subscribe for report? I don't think so, right?

Server Software:
SQL Server 2000 (all sp's up to date)
SSRS 2000 (all sp's up to date)
We have an error when a report subscription is sent via email.
Our report definitions reference a key in the web.config file so that we can have a single location to reference our department's name in all reports. Our department name changes frequently as our company is bought and sold and it is difficult to manually update 700+ reports.
In report designer we have a text field with the following value expression:
=System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.appSettings("Department").ToString()
Our web.config looks like this:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<configuration>
....extra settings truncated for brevity...
<appSettings>
<add key="Department" value="Report created by: Corporate Reporting and Analysis" />
</appSettings>
</configuration>
The reports work perfectly in every aspect accept when they are schedules to be emailed. When the email recipient receives the email (not matter what format, mhtl, pdf, etc...) the department string value is replaced with: #Error
Is this a bug with the report schedule and deilvery component? ..or is there a permission problem when accessing: System.Configuration.ConfigurationSettings.appSettings("Department").ToString() ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have written a report visual studio. The report has 10 multi-value parameters that pull data from their individual data sets within the reports. When running the report from within Visual Studio it renders fine. There are no errors reported, only a warning related to a pathname I have use to retrieve image data and display on the report.Deployment of the report is error free.When I view the report I briefly get the "Loading" splash window, but then nothing. None of the headers or static text is displayed. The results window is blank.
The report defaults all the parameter values. In trying to debug the issue I have found by reducing the number of parameter values the report will render. Once I have all the values added, the report does nothing.Below is the query being used for the report. The where clause in the query shows the parameters being used and the syntax.We are running on Windows Server 2008 R2 and SQL Server 2008 R2.

Hi,
I'm trying to deploy Reporting Services on an Internet-facing web server using a custom security extension (forms authentication). We will be putting Report Manager on the Web Server outside of the firewall, and Report Server on another machine inside the firewall. When testing the solution in a development environment with Report Manager and Report Server on the same box, the solution works fine.
When testing it using the Internet-facing environment described above, it almost works but there seems to be an issue with the authentication cookie that is generated. Here's what happens:
1. User enters credentials on UILogon.aspx and submits form.
2. In the code-behind, LogonUser() is called through a web service proxy and the authentication cookie is returned successfully. The code used here to set the cookie is the same code used in the Forms Authentication sample that ships with RS2005.
3. The user is redirected to Folder.aspx, and the request hangs for a while, and eventually kicks you back out to UILogon.aspx, as if it lost the authentication cookie. When doing a trace on the HTTP header, the cookie is still there.
Is there anything special I need to do to make the Report Server "see" the cookie when I have Report Manager and Report Server on different machines?
Any help would be much appreciated!
Mike

Hello everyone,

The code I used to call the win32 dll is like below:

ExactSpelling = false, CharSet = CharSet.Auto, SetLastError = true)]
private static extern UInt32 AlrtLogConditionToText(Byte[] pbCondition, StringBuilder pszText, UInt32 dwSize);
I defined a C# method to call the above win32 method and return a string. Then in the report, I called this C# method to get the correct string.
In the report designer, the C# method in the custom assembly can return the correct string in the preview window. But after I deployed the report into the report server, the textbox will only display "#error" in the report manager web page.
Can anybody help me on it? Thanks a lot.
Danny
