T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Query Maximum Concurrent Connections (Participants)

Mar 4, 2015

I have a table called dbo.PhoneCalls with below columns

PhoneID |PhoneNumber| Callstarttime| CallEndtime|
1 |111-111-1111|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000
1 |222-222-2222|2013-04-01 05:15:12.000|2013-04-01 05:16:52.000
2 |333-333-3333|2013-04-01 05:17:29.000|2013-04-01 05:24:08.000
2 |444-444-4444|2013-04-01 05:21:50.000|2013-04-01 05:22:31.000
2 |555-555-5555|2013-04-01 05:22:41.000|2013-04-01 05:23:11.000
2 |666-666-6666|2013-04-01 05:23:20.000|2013-04-01 05:23:46.000
..........

1. PhoneID is nothing but the participant in the call. PhoneID = 1 is twice from above. Which means 2 particpants (Same call )with 2 numbers with their callstarttime and callendtime. Similarly for PhoneID =2, there are 4 participants. And the list goes on for a day and then for a month.

2. For example a phone call P1 with 2 participants is going on for a particular day. We should not consider the same phone call having 2 participants involved. So that the concurrency would be 2. We have to ignore that here.

3. Only to be considered is other Phone calls for that day. Lets say P1 having call with 2 participants, P2 having some 4 participants which fall in the time period of P1. Then we should consider P1 and P2 the common period

4. In order to find number of concurrent calls happened for a day basing on callstarttime and callendtime. What would be the query?

5. Should consider the Timeperiod or the bucket with 1 hour as the period.

6. A Phone Call P1, Phone Call P2, should have matching (common) time ( keeping all the scenarios) is required for this query.

Result for Concurrent calls for a day should be like below. Should get all the concurrent connections happened for a particular day.

Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2
Jan-02-2015|04 to 05|5
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
........

ii) So once the above is achieved.

Have to find the Maximum concurrent connections for day from the above.

For below Maximum Concurrent connections are '3'
Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2

Hence the Result for Maximum Concurrent Connections would be

Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|MaxConcurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
.............

Execute Maximum Number (that Varies Each Month) Of Concurrent Running Executables

May 11, 2007

I know that if I set the Package.MaxConcurrentExecutables Property to -1, it will execute the maximum number of concurrent running executables to equal the number of processors plus two.

I have a requirement where I have to run the maximum number of concurrent running executables. However, the number of concurrent executables to run varies each month (it is not fixed).

If I have a loop inside the package that executes each stored procedure (same sproc, different parameter), will SQL Server execute the maximum number of concurrent running executables possible? (It may execute 4 or 8 at a time and that is fine.)

Thanks,

Michael

SQL Server 2000 To 2005 Upgrade (Database Users Logins)

Jul 6, 2007

Hi All,

I have just migrated couple of test databases

from SQL Server 2000 to 2005 (side by side).

I also migrated the server level logins using SSIS transfer logins task, available on SSIS 'Transfer logins', I selected all the databases that I have migrated so that I have all database users account in server logins (to avoid orphaned users); but I don't have all the database users in server logins, also the sys.sysusers doesn't have the database users, that I have moved to SQL 2005. Can anybody help?

Also do I need to back up the SQL Server 2000 database and restore it on SQL 2005? What impact this operation can have?

Thanks for your time..

SQL Server 2014 :: Calculating Concurrent Users In A Database?

Feb 2, 2015

I am researching this and playing with using the syss.sysprocesses view and counting the dbid column. I would most likely want to store this information in a table with a date/time stamp because we really want to track our concurrent users during the day for awhile. Do you have any neat tricks in getting this done? Is there a DMV or Information_Schema view that could be used to accomplish this task? I found the following code on the internet:

SELECT DB_NAME(dbid) AS DBName,
COUNT(dbid) AS NumberOfConnections,
loginame AS LoginName,
nt_domain AS NT_Domain,
nt_username AS NT_UserName,
hostname AS HostName
FROM sys.sysprocesses

Maximum SQL 2005 Database Size

Sep 19, 2007

Hello! I'm trying to figure out what the ultimate size limitation for a SQL 2005 Enterprise server is. This document is helpful but I'm a bit confused:

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143432.aspx

In the document, it says that the maximum database size is 524,258 terabytes; however, it also says that the maximum data file size--which I assume is the .MDF file--is 16 terabytes. My question is, how can you create a 524,258 TB database if the maximum file size 16 TB?

Dumb question, I'm sure...please enlighten me!

Logins - SQL Server 2005

I have tried everything, A New Role, Schema, set the Securables but when I connect to the server with MS Access or MS Excel, and sign in using that Login, I can still a bunch of tables. I only want this Login to be able to run either view and not see anything thing else.

SQL 2005 Server Performance And Maximum Memory Pro

Aug 13, 2007

A query was taking 20 seconds and consuming 70% CPU takes only 1 second after setting Maximum Memory property to 2048 MB - why?

Server:
OS Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Server 2003, Enterprise Edition
Version5.2.3790 Service Pack 1 Build 3790
8 GB memory
Two Dual-core AMD Opteron 285 2.6GHz Processors
Server is not configured for AWE
Fiber channel connection to EMC Clarion - two LUNs - one for MDF, one for LDF

SQL 2005
SQL 2005 32 bit Standard Edition - SP1 (version 9.0.2047)
Three instances installed on server - only one instance in use
Binaries and system databases on local mirrored disk
Database file (MDF) on one EMC LUN - dedicated physical drives
Log file (LDF) on one EMC LUN - dedicated physical drives

Query in question:

SELECT TOP 10 Address.Address1, Address.Address2, Address.City, Address.County, Address.State, Address.ZIPCode, Address.Country, Client.Name,
Quote.Deleted, Client.PrimaryContact, Client.DBA, Client.Type, Quote.Status, Quote.LOB, Client.ClientID, Quote.QuoteID, Quote.PolicyNumber,
Quote.EffectiveDate, Quote.ExpirationDate, Quote.Description, Quote.Description2, Quote.DateModified, Quote.DateAccessed, Quote.CurrentPremium,
Quote.TransactionDate, Quote.CreationDate, Quote.Producer FROM ((Client INNER JOIN Address ON Client.ClientID = Address.ClientID) INNER JOIN Quote ON
Client.ClientID = Quote.ClientID) WHERE (Quote.Deleted = 0) AND ((Address.AddressType)='Mailing') ORDER BY Client.Name

Address table - 161,075 rows
Client table - 161,634 rows
Quote table - 59,145 rows

With default maximum memory setting (2,147,483,647 MB) - query runs in 20 seconds and consumes over 70 % of the CPU.

After changing maximum memory setting to 2048 MB, query runs in less than 1 second.

Question is:
What is the best practice for setting the minimum and maximum memory settings for SQL 2005?
What can be monitored to identify the cause of these type of issues - using profiler, PerfMon, other tool?

Thanks

Moving DBs From SQL Server Logins To Windows Logins

Apr 3, 2007

I am a systems analyst and work with an app that runs against 2 SQL Server DBs. Though I have some familiarity with SQL Server and SQL, I am not a DBA.

The app executable is tied to a Windows service.
When we install the app, we run a process that builds 2 dbs to include:
Tables, indexes, stored procedures, views and user accounts.
SQL Server is set up for mixed mode authentication.

Normally, the dbs run off the local db user accounts which are tied to local logins with the same names.
We have a client that wants to remove our standard logins so that they can run on only a Windows login.
I know I should be able to tie the db users to a Windows login.
And I can do the same for the service.

But I am at a loss as to how to get this done.
How do you associate db users with a Windows login?
When I have tried sp_change_users_login I get an error that the Windows login does not exist. (Though I have added the Windows account to the DB.)

Hope this all makes sense.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Logins With No Database Permissions

Nov 3, 2014

Query to show logins that don't have any permissions within the SQL instance? I'm tasked with doing some cleanup and have found some cases where the database was deleted or moved to another server but the logins that used it were not deleted. I'd like to identify them to research.

For instance a query to show logins that have no permissions in any of the existing databases would be handy. I'm thinking it would be complicated by the need to loop through all of the existing databases and then outer join it to the list of instance level logins. Going to try to write something like that but was hoping that a script already exists.

Permissions To See Server Logins/Create Database Users

Feb 2, 2007

Our company has 2 Database Roles (DBE and DBA). The DBE creates
database schema, performs SQL Server Administration, and manages server
security. The DBA writes data access, ETL, and manages database
security. In 2005, we're struggling with how to allow the DBA to see
all of the logins on the server in order to add them as users of their
database. What permissions does the DBA need to select from any of the
logins on the server to add them to their database?

Database Concurrent Access Issue

May 22, 2007

Dear All,

I have this .NET application that inserts lucky draw entries into SQL server. Each entry may have a range of values that the winning number will be drawn from. For example,

Entry 1: [1, 2]
Entry 2: [3, 8]
Entry 3: [9, 10]
Entry 4: [11, 11]
Entry 5: [12, 20]

The winning number will be picked from [1, 20]. Given this scenario, what is the best design that can handle the concurrency issue? If two entries are input at the same time, how to make sure it won't have the same starting value? Anyway to lock a table when one is accessing, disallowing other to run select query?

Thanks.

Lost SQL Logins, But Still Have DB Logins - Script To Recreate SQL Logins?

Jan 21, 2007

ok, first, I know... I forgot to run a backup of the master database, and I forgot to run a script to caputure logins. Not that that is out of the way... I need to recreate the logins under the Securities tab below the databases. All the company databases have the user names and passwords assigned to them, but they are not able to login, because they are not able to authenticate to the SQL server first.

Is there a script that someone has that will copy the company database security info for the users and recreate them in the SQL security tab?

I know that I can rebuild them manually, but I need to delete them first in the application software, then delete them from the databases, and then recreate them in the application software... and as simple as that sounds... it is a slow moving process.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Transact SQL :: Error - Maximum Row Size Exceeds Allowed Maximum Of 8060 Bytes

Sep 12, 2015

I have some code I build 2 weeks ago which I’ve been running daily but it’s suddenly stopped working with the following error.

“The table "tbl_Intraday_Tmp" has been created, but its maximum row size exceeds the allowed maximum of 8060 bytes. INSERT or UPDATE to this table will fail if the resulting row exceeds the size limit” When I google this there seems to be a related to tables with vast numbers of columns.

My table tbl_Intraday_tmp is relatively small. It has 7 columns. 1 of varchar(5), 3 of decimal(9,3) and 2 of decimal(18,0). The bit I’m puzzled with is it was working and stopped.

I don’t recall changing anything but I wouldn’t rule that out. I ‘ve inspected the source files and I don’t believe they have changed either.

DECLARE
@FileName varchar(50),
@Path varchar(50),
@SqlCmd varchar(1000)
= '',
@ASXCode varchar(5),
@Offset decimal(18,0),
