We have changed the Network Domain name of a SQL server and restarted before changing any of the settings in SQL server. When we now try to start the SQL server service manager we get the following error
Your SQL server is either corrupt or has been tampered with. Unknown package id please rerun setup
Any suggestions on how to get the SQL server back on line without having to take the server down and changing the Netowrk Domain Name back ??

I've installed Visual Studio 2005 Professional evaluation edition on both my desktop & on the server to try out the Debugger to be used with my Stored procedures
I got this error message every time i try to 'Step into Stored Procedure' from my desktop to connect to the stored procedure which resides on the Server.
Error message: Unable to Start T-SQL Debugging. Could not attach to SQL Server Process on 'Server1'.The RPC server is unavailable
The 'Step into Stored Procedure' works though if I open the stored procedure directly on the server.
Both my PC and Server has been installed with Remote Debugger and my windows login has been assigned permission to debug on the debugger that resides on the Server and has sysadmin server role on SQL 2005 both on PC and Server.
Can someone tell me what i miss out to debug Stored procedure in the SQL Server 2005 on the Server from my PC?

We have use SQL Server 2005 on 64bit windows 2003 server Cluster.
In the application log I noticed the following errors during .
When error occurred , i was copying the 45 GB backup file from this machine to another Network machine over 1Gbps network link.
The sql server database was used by many user. The SQL resorce probably failed in this failover cluster.We could immediately
restart the group.So what could be the cause of the error? anyone has faced this problem ?. Here are the logs in chronology.
Any recommended remedy / parameter change to prevent this further (of course besides not copying full backup file online.
Normally it's done at night in lean times)

I am receiving the following error when attempting to INSERT into the database.
Code:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The name "YFM700RVL" is not permitted in this context. Valid expressions are constants, constant expressions, and (in some contexts) variables. Column names are not permitted.
I have tried googling the error and since it is a long error, it has been hard trying to find an answer. One solution I found (which wasn't a solution) was to add the '@' infront of the variables. It did not work.

Hi I am trying to learn VB 2005 and I am reaching a step in my studies which requires downloading Sql Server 2005. However every time I attempt to download, I receive this error message.
"SQL Server Setup cannot install files to the compressed or encrypted folder: c:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server. To continue, make sure that your installation directories are not compressed or encrypted, or specify a different directory, and then run SQL Server Setup again."
I have tried saving it to another folder, this did not help. Somewhere in my search for answers, I came across something that said I needed a strong Sa authentication or password. I did not have a place to store a password in the setup program and when I went to administration password all my fields were blank, so it should not have needed any password. I also tried the link that this error message directed me to and they said they had no further information on this error.
I have exhausted all the leads, a beginner could possibly come across, except you. Please Help!

I was in the process of installing Microsof Project 2003 when we suddenly decided to move up to Microsoft Project 2007. We removed SharePoint 3.0 and SQL Server 2K so all that is installed on the box is Windows Server 2003 with all Service Packs. During the install of SQL Server 2005, here is the error message we get.

I have an ASP.NET application that runs under the development server. Before deploying to my host I wanted to test it under IIS. I set up a virtual directory under IIS, but when I try to open the home page I get an error Unable to open the physical file
"E:CDiskLocalWebSitesDIWSchedulingApp_DataDIWDB.MDF". Operating
system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".and a code dump showing that the code is breaking at the open connection. A little research on the error indicates that IIS does not have permission to execute the database operation. I can not find any information on how to give IIS this permission in SQL Server 2005 Express. Any guidance would be appreciated.

I've got a situation where I want to put request message on a queue. Because starting a conversation is the only way to put messages on a queue I have to start a conversation with myself. So my Begin Dialog Statement looks something like this:

Over the last 2 months I have gotten this SQL Server error (twice). All existing processes will continue to work, however no new processes can be created and users cannot connect to the server. This is the exact text of the message in the SQL Server error log.

While we can typically just stop SQL Server Service and restart the services...I have found it is best to restart the machine during non-production times to take care of any 'residual' effects of this error.
The SQL Server 2000 SP4 box with Windows 2003 Standard SP1 is well maintained by our I.T. team and it typically will run 4 or 5 months without a reboot.

I've been using SQL Server 2005 on vista and everything was fine until today. I cannot start the SQL Server service from the services list; it gives the error "Windows could not start the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) on Local Computer....., and refer to service-specific error code -2146885628.". I looked at the evet log; the first error message is "FallBack certificate initialization failed with error code 1." then an information message: "Unable to initialize SSL encryption because a valid certificate could not be found, and it is not possible to create a self-signed certificate.".
I've created many test certificates till now (to test WCF services security features) using makecert.exe and nothing went wrong; the last certificate I made was named "localhost"; so I thought there's a problem because of that; I deleted that certificate but still cannot start SQL Server.

I have been running mssql 2005 and mssql 2000 on the same machine with no issues for a couple of months.
For some reason after a reboot the service is saying "Starting".
I can't stop it.
I am fairly new to sql server and any help would be appreciated. If you need more info (logs etc) let me know and I'll grab any info required.

I can't get an instance of SQL Server 2005 to start using TCP/IP.
The issue is pretty basic: I have a local SQL Server 2005 that I can get to run and connect to it using Named Pipes.
The problem is that from a remote machine, although I can connect to it using Named Pipes, ASP.NET can't connect to it (when I'm in design mode, I can connect to the SQL server to configure Data Sources, but at run-time, it refuses to work).
So, I tried to switch to TCP/IP. I can't get it to work on the local machine. I get the following errors:
SQL Server could not spawn FRunCM thread. Check the SQL Server error log and the Windows event logs for information about possible related problems.
TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0xd, status code 0x1.
I've looked up these errors, and most of them are basic "make sure protocols are enabled, make sure VIA is disabled, etc." but those aren't it.
Any ideas?

I just installed SQl Server 2005 on my Windows XP Pro system. But I can't figure out how to start the Database Engine. In the MS SQL Server Management Studio I see one Database Engine, but not SQL Servers. If I do "Update Local Server Registration" nothing happens. If I do right-click "New Server Registration" I get a databse icon with a white open circle. If I the try "right-click, Connect, Object Explorer" I get "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server...". All this time the right Summary pane is showing "No Server Connection."
The tutorials are no help and do not function as they describe.
Sample databases install but do not show up in program list as they are supposed to.
How do I start up my SQL Server Database Engine with a new database?
Why do none of the tutorials show you what to do?
Assistance would be greatly appreciated.
