While Opening Management Studio I Am Getting Error--Attempted To Read Or Protected Memory.
Feb 19, 2008
Hi,
I am getting error while opening the Data Base Engine in Sql server Management Studio.
We applied SP2. and restarted the server but no luck.
Error Message:Attempted to read or protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt(mscorlib).
Hello. I have received the follwoing error upon an attempt to Browse the Cube. All other tabs are functional, including the Calculations tab. We are running Windows Server 2003 SP2 and SQL Server 2005 SP2. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
**EDIT** - Have confirmed SP1 for VS2005 is installed both locally and on server, also.
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (Microsoft Visual Studio)

I have created few reports using SSRS 2005. I am using Oracle database in Data Source to fetch my data. It is working fine and showing me report correctly. But after running the report 8 to 10 times, it starts giving me Memory error. To get rid of that, I need to recycle (stop-start) ReportingService from IIS.
I am exactly getting following error...
Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.
I am not getting the actual problem, why is it giving memory error only after running few times? Please let me know if anyone facing same problem or knowing the solution for the problem.
I'm trying to import data from a Sybase ASE 12.0 database called "OurTestDatabase" into MS SQL Server 2005. I started SSIS Wizard and indicated "Sybase ASE OLEDB Provider" as a source and SQL Native Client as the target. I'm gettign the following error message:
The same data source worked with DTS when we thought we'd convert to MS SQL Server 2000. Is this a bug in SSIS? What can be done? Using ".Net Framework Provider for ODBC" is not a good option because this doesn't allow me to choose any tables from the Sybase source.
The shotshot agent is generating a snapshot, I got the error ' Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt'. Then, the agent failed. I tried to restart the agent and generate a snapshot again. This time, it run normally. So far, I got this error twice since the replication launched. Kindly advise. Thanks a lot.
When I open a large table (say more than 1,000,000 Rows) in the SSMS by right clicking on the table name, it takes a very big time to fully open the table.More than 20 minutes for 1,000,000 records on a local instance.
SQL Server 2000 EM was extremely faster. Does any one knows a work around?
I need to be able to view and edit the data in SSMS.
can anyone advise on a problem i am having. I have installed SQL Server Express but i am getting an error when i try to open up the management studio app. The DB seems to be fine as i can connect to this from another machine.
The error i get says: The proper type library could not be found in the system registry. An attempt to repair this condition failed because you do not have the permissions to write to the system registry or because the type library cound not be loaded. This can be fixed by a system administrator running this program once, which will cause the proper file to be registered. If problems still persist, then try repairing this application from the setup program.
I am running windows Vista x86.
I have tried opening it as administrator and still no could, i have uninstalled it and re-installed it about 10 times and am getting pretty sick.

I'm currently experiencing major problems with SSIS when opening and editing large .DTSX package files that contain Exec DTS 2000 Tasks which have the package data loaded internally. I have no issues if I point the task to a .DTS file, or to an actual DTS package on a SQL 2000 server - but if I load the package internally then once the underlying .DTSX file gets over around 17MB or so in size (which doesnt take long making a few edits to even fairly simple packages now and then), I start to experience major issues with VS/BIDS 2005 crashing randomly when I try to perform any action with the package (open, save etc). Things like OutOfMemory exception errors, followed by the properties of Exec DTS 2000 task being deleted, and also sometimes accompanied by messages about the application not being installed properly.
Again its ONLY when the underlying .DTSX file reaches a certain size limit, and only when I've got an Exec DTS 2000 task with the package loaded internally. I've replicated the issue using several different package files on several different machines (even on servers with lots of memory, fwiw).
Can anyone out there help me with this? SSIS - namely SSIS Exec DTS 2000 package tasks - are our lifeblood at my company and this trend of random and serious crashing on large package files is very disturbing to say the least.
I have a question about opening files in the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio.
In the old Query Analyzer from SQL 2000 I can open SQL Files via drag & drop (from explorer to QA) or open it with a double click in the explorer. Then the Files opened, if I had actual a connection to a server / database (QA is stared with one file and has a connection to Server/Datebase), with this connection.
Now in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Studio I'll be asked everytime for Server and have to get the database from the database list - it does not connect automaticly to server/database, that is actual connected (I have opened a file with the connection and a connected database in the object explorer).
Someone do not have this problem - but we found no option to set it up.
I am trying the assign the models to the user in the user management page. But when I try to expand the + symbol next to the model and open the entities, I get the error that the object reference is not set for a object server instance.
I am trying to execute a SSIS package from a client through BIDS, but when I start BIDS, I am getting the error -
SqlWb.exe : Application error - The instruction at "0X77D...." referenced memory at "0X00000002". The memory could bot be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program. Click on CANCEL to terminate the program.
Please help.

I have tried running the package on the server and it executes properly. I really dont know why this is a problem with the SQL Server clients alone. I have also tried googling around and could not find any resolution. Can anyone point me to the right direction please!!!
Hi,I've got this dts package in sql server 2000 sp4 that has severaltransformation tasks with an oracle database (10g) as the destination. The package executes successfully when run through the dts designer butwhen run using dtsrun, I get the following error at the completion ofall tasks in the dts package. The data inserts into the oracle databasebut i always get this Application errorThe Instruction at "0x7c8327f9" referenced memory at "Oxffffffff". I am getting the following error when I try to start SQL 2005 Management Studio to manage my SQL Server : Cannot load the DLL xpstar.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 126(The specified module could not be found.).
I am having problems connecting to my SQL Server instance with Management Studio; basically the setup is as follows;
*Single server running windows 2003 enterprise - in a workgroup not domain *SQL Server is installed on this machine *When I try and connect from the same machine using its own IP address and Windows authentication I get the 18452 error "login failed for {NULL} user"
I am testing it like this because Sharepoint is failing in configuration wizard because it is connecting the same way - at least the login failure audit logs say the same.
I have had SQL express installed and working ok, however, I can no longer connect
OS: XP sp2.0
.net installed ver1.1 .. 2.0 sp1, 3.0sp1 and 3.5
The install of SQL was using the SQLEXR_adv download
I have removed SQL and all associated applications folders and windows SQL services
I have re-installed many times but always receive the same issue.
I re-built the .net 2.0
The issue I have is when I try and connect form my applications or with Express sql management studio I receive the following error:
It looks like a .net2.0 issue

I have found a similar problem in Google but that thread doesn't have any conclusion. So that I wish a new thread can help solve this problem ultimately.http://forums.asp.net/rss.aspx?ForumID=54&PostID=1600414Problem description:TableAdapter will raise timeout exception when I try to execute a SQL containing subquery and grouping. However, if the same SQL is executed in SQL Server Management Studio. The response time is always less than 1 second.Solution provided in previous link:Increase the timeout setting of the command - I think this is not the solution. As the default timeout should be 15 seconds, how could it get a timeout error if it execute a SQL supposed to be finished within a second?I have encountered similar problem before. However, I can't remember the exact detail. My solution for that moment seems to be using join instead of subquery in the SQL. Unluckily, this trick does not work this time. Please provide any other suggestion. Thanks in advance.
I have some strange error trying to connect to Reporting Services.
At the beginning I was suspecting some accounts issues.
But after checking all the accounts under wich ASP.NET, SQL SERVER, Reporting Services are running I don't even know what to think.
After searching internet for answers the only similar problems' solutions were remove RS and install it again.
Have anybody here had this problem? Can you just fix something without reinstalling RS? The error is:

Hello, I am facing a very odd behavior with SQL server 2005. I have a database role with specific permissions to execute only some of the stored procedures in the database. I also have a SQL login/user attached to the role.
If I execute one of the stored procedures from the application (web application, with Microsoft enterprise library database block) I am getting a security error stating that I need select permission for the schema. However, If I execute the same sp with the same parameters from SQL management studio, connecting with the same SQL login as in the application I can execute the sp without any security errors. The SQL management studio is in on a different server than the targeted database.
Are there any differences between executing stored procedures from SQL MS and from application when using the same SQL login?
When launching Microsfot SQL Server Management Studio Express, I get a Popup Error box (!) without any text. After pressing the OK button, everything seems to work fine. Any ideas as to what it's trying to tell me?
I created SSIS Package to transfer tables from one sql2005 DB to another sql2005 DB. When I execute the package from the BIDS it execute succesfully. However, when I import the package (file system) to the management studio - msdb - stored packages and run the package from there (right click: Run Package) I get this error:
the validate method on the task failed, and returned error code. the validate method must succeed and indicate the result using an out parameter.
Yesterday I successfully installed Microsoft Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition which included SQL Server 2005 Express. Today I noticed I needed to download the Management Studio seperate download. I downloaded SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi and executed it and get the following error:
Error reading from file C:...SQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it..
Solved my own problem. Once I moved the msi to C: the installation worked. Apparently the path it was in was too long causing it to be unreadable. c:xxxxxxxxSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msiSQLServer2005_SSMSEE.msi.
I encounter this error when importing SSIS packages using SQL Server Management Studio:

I have Vista Ultimate (IIS Enabled), SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition (downloaded and ran the SP2 Update), Visual Studio 2008. VS2008 installs no problem. When I install SQL Server 2005, I get an error when it trys to install the last part( Workstation Components, Management Studio, etc). I have tried FULLY, MANUALLY removing all SQL products and registry entries. I have used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility. I have tried Microsoft's recommended way of manually removing SQL Server 2005. If I manually run SqlRun_Tools.msi the error comes up right away.
The error is: "A component that you have specified in the ADD_LOCAL property is already installed. To upgrade the existing component, refer to the template.ini and set the UPGRADE property to the name of the component."
