When I try to install either SQL Server 2005 SP2 or SQL Server 2008 CTP 2 on a trial copy of Windows Server 2008 Web Edition I get no error messages but the SQL engines are not installed. I have been informed that the SQL Server restriction in place for Windows Server 2003 Web Edition is no longer in place for the 2008 version.
I cant figure out why this is happening.. its a fresh 2003 x64 R2 sp2 server, during the installation of the SQL Server Database Services the server hangs and displays Setting File Security. I let the install run for over 45 mins and it still hangs... the log file is useless.. i cant find any clues as to why ...
hi everyone, can anyone help me how to install sql 2005 server express edition on windows server 2003 x64 edition. because its my first time installing on a 64 bit OS i dont know how. When i tried installing it gives a warning on ASP.Net , when i ignore that & continue the installation. when installing now the SQLServer Management Studio Express now it says "installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this qperating system....." any idea?
I have just take my system back to the factory defaults after some unsuccessful attempts to install 64 bit and 32 bit sql server on my notebook. I am looking to use either 32 or 64 bit (I have disks for both) and I would like to get a step by step guide that will help me through the process.
I tried an install of the 64 bit version, applied SP2, and it went smoothly but the report services browser didn't work. I tried to change some IIS settings but I didnt document what I changed so i was unable to undo the changes that i made when these didnt work.
I tried several combinations of things but then decided that a clean install on a clean system was the best option.
I need the SQL engine , reporting services, analysis services - and possibly integration services - i am not sure if i need notification services (dont know what it does anyway!)
I also have vs2005 - should i install that first or after sql server 2005 SP2?
I Try to install SQL Server Express in Windows 2003 Standard edition x64 and have some problems.
It say that can not instal client and say to use sqlncli_x64.msi, but I can not find this packege to install this client and I receive one alert with ASP.NET register 64.
I Check all request systems requirements many times and looks ok.
How can I solve this to install properly the SQL 2005 Express? When the setup finish say that was not possiblem to install SQL Server 2005 Express.
I'm facing a problem while installing the SQL Server 2005 Express on Windows 2000 Pro with SP4.
After finishing the downloading from Microsoft I start the installation and things seems to go ok but during Extracting Files step a message appears "SQL Server Setup unexpectedly failed. For more information, review the setup summary log file in %Program Files%Microsoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGSummary.txt" and it terminates the installation.
I located the log file and open it but can't understand the problem..I copy the text and paste it here for anyone who can understand it.Please, it is very importand for me to work with SQL Server for my project. Any advice or information or anything else???
Thank you all,

I would like to ask you all a few questions. Please kindly inform me the related links if this topic is already brought before.
Is SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition compatible with Windows Server 2008? Can it run well there? If not, what do I need in order to install it on my server?
Thank you so much for your kind attention and look forward to hearing from you all soon.
I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition 64-bit on a 64-bit instance of Windows 2008 running as Server Core. I read about an issue in KB article 920201, but I don't even get that far. The setup first tries to install .NET Framework 2.0, which fails with error message: Error 70243 installing .NET Framework 2.0
I tried installing .NET Framework separately, which indicates that I need to install Internet Explorer 5.01. I'm reluctant to try that, so I'd like to know if the people that actually got to the issue in KB920201 installed IE first (is that even possible?).
(1) I have already installed of SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition first.
(1) Can I install visual studio 2008 without the 2005 express edition of SQL server? Will be any problems because I don't have express edition of SQL server? Do I need to install the express edition of SQL server as well?
(3) How to use SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition instance on visual studio 2008?
I watched and followed the Intro to VB 2008 Express, but in the final part of the video, when you add a database, i did everything as the video says, still i get:
An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll': The specified module could not be found. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E)
Ive tried the fix stated in another forum, the one about changing the "Target CPU" but the option doesn appear, what does appear its the "Platfrom" dropdown list, but its fixed to "Any CPU" and dont have any more options.
Ive also downloaded Microsoft SQL Server Compact 3.5 ENU and "re-installed" and selected repair, followed the steps, rebooted and still nothing.
Hi I am interested in taking MCTS exam 70-431 for sql server 2005 implementation and maintainance. I have been reading the hardware requirements for the instalation of sql server versions and realise that enterprise and developer editions have same minimum requirements for the operation system. I understand that the Developer Edition includes all the functionality of SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but it is licensed for use as a development and test system, not as a production server.
Also I undestand that the developer edition supports the Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 or later but the enterprise edition does not support this operating system. The evaluation/trial version is for the enterprise edition. Can I use the developer version of sql server 2005 for my practice exercises instead of using the trial version? I have all hardware requirements for the trial enterprise version except that I am using Microsoft windows Xp home edition version 2002 with SP2. I am trying to see if I can use the developer version of sql server 2005 as it is cheaper for me to buy this software than buying the new operating system for my computer. According to the microsoft book for the MCTS exam 70-431 there is a section which states that before you begin you should have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 running on your computer on an NTFS file system (NTFS) partition. Will I still be ok to use the book and be able to do all the tests in the book if i am using the developer version of sql server 2005 with my Microsoft windows Xp home edition than using the trial version which comes with the book?
I recently bought a Dell server with Windows 2003 enterprise edition. I wanted the X32 version and metnioned of the same to the sales people, but somehow they put the x64 edition on the server. The database I am planning to use does not work on X64 edition as of now. How do I downgrade the OS to X32 version? Do I need to send the system back to Dell? Machine not opened yet. Or is there a way I can get software CD and downgrade to X32 version?
Hello! Recently, I set up server with Windows Web Server 2008 RC1, SQL 2008 Express beta, .NET 3.5, IIS 7. I'm running ASP.NET web application with SQL database. Everything works fine until the first application state on the server expires. After that, any postback that starts a new application state on the server and connects to the database, results in the following error: Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in starting the process for the user instance. The connection will be closed. Is this a bug that will be fixed in release of Windows / SQL or am I doing something wrong? Many thanks for help, Jan
I have never installed sql server before and I didnt know if I just take the sql server 2005 standard edition media and boot off it and do a fresh install that way or do I have to install Windows server

The Sql Server version I'm trying to install is Developer CTP 2008 Version, but also Sql Server Express Edition doesn't work! Can anybody help me? I am new to servers and when I try to learn about them I get confused, because the information does not list a server in XP, but they keep it separate from Microsoft SQL Server, like XP has it's own server. Can someone help clarify for me what the versions of SQL servers are?

I try to install Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition on Windows Server 2003 Web Editon, but fail...

Hi, I am looking at installing SQL Server 7 on my PC which runs Windows 2000 Professional. Can anyone give me some advice before I do the installation of SQL Server 7. Any tips or any problems I might encounter.
I want to ask a question, I am using Windows Vista Home Premium Edition in my notebook, I installed Visual Studio 2005 in it, it is working properly. Now I want to install SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition in it, in the begining it was giving me errors while installing Sql Server 2005 Enterprise Edition, but then it installed properly, but the problem is I cant see the "SQL Server Management Studio" in installed SQL Server, I think it is not installed properly.
I am attempting to use the SQL Server 2008 Developer Edition (Management Studio) to create/manage a Compact Edition 3.5 database. My problem is that I cannot even create/open the compact database in Management Studio. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA
Problem Creating the Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <New Database...> as the Database file.
Browse to folder where file will be created (C:MyDatabase#1.sdf was used in my example)
Leave all other field as default selections OR make changes, either way it does not work.
Click OK.
At this point the OK button just becomes disabled and nothing happens. Problem Opening An Existing Compact Database:
Open 2008 Management Studio
From menu choose File | Connect Object Explorer...
Choose SQL Server Compact Edition as the Server type.
Choose <Browse for more...> as the Database file and locate a ".sdf" file that I created using VS2008.
Enter password, if any.
Click OK.

I have just migrated a complete SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 development server from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 Server. I just realized that I should not have used the Data center edition Product Key as this is Development server. I am being asked to downgrade to Developer edition. I have already migrated all the logins, databases(40 databases), cubes etc. I really can't uninstall and reinstall Developer edition. How else can I upgrade/downgrade to switch from Datacenter edition to Developer edition.
I have purchased 4 new boxes for SQL2005 and my var database product all running on the new Windows 2008 server. A lot of silly mind bender issues but I am up and live now. However, what should the firewall settings be on my SQL database box? I have ultimately turned off Windows Firewall so that I could connect and continue forward.
