Working With SQL 2005 Interface But Internally It Works As SQL 2000

Aug 27, 2007

Hi!

I have installed SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 in my computer. But none of 2005 feature is working. So someone told me that i had to check the version and when I cheked I realized I was working with SQL 2000:
€œMicrosoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.194 (Intel X86)
Aug 6 2000 00:57:48
Copyright (c) 1988-2000 Microsoft Corporation
Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 2)€?

So, how can I change it for working with SQL 2005?. It€™s like I€™m working with SQL 2005 interface but internally it works as SQL 2000. Can you help me please?

SQL 2000 To SQL 2005 Works For One 2000 Server But Not The Next

Jun 15, 2006

I have several SQL 2000 servers I need to setup transactional (non updatable) replication with. The structure is:

SQL Server 2000 as Publisher/Distributor

SQL Server 2005 Standard as Subscriber

The connection is via the Internet with snapshots using FTP.

I setup the first set (2 databases at location A). They work wonderfully. I created the publication and then subscribed using MGMT Studio for 2K5.

II am setting up the same scenario for location B. Here is my problem:

In MGMT Studio I connect to the publisher (SANDRA). I right-click a publication and choose New Subscriptions..., the publication is already selected. I click next - Run each agent at its Subscriber is selected and the only option (this is desired), I click Next

HERE IS THE PROBLEM:

On the Subscriber's screen there are no Subscribers listed. When setting up location A the subscribing server was listed and I could choose a database. The Next button is greyed out and there is no way to create/add one.

I tried setting up the subscription by right-clicking the subcribing server's Replication folder in MGMT Studio but I get the same result (except that I have to authenticate with the publishing server which works fine).

WHAT'S DIFFERENT:

Location A is SQL Server Standard (SP3) running on SBS2K3. It is obviously on a domain and so SQL Server and the SQL Agent are running under domain accounts. Location B is a Windows XP SP2 machine running SQL Server Personal Edition (it actually says Development Edition in the properties window).

The databases are the same strucutre, different data. At location A the firewall is set to allow 1433->*any* and *any*->1433 where *any* is 1024 or higher. On the XP machine the firewall is set to allow port 1433. I don't think this is the issue because I've turned the firewall off on the XP machine and I get the same result.

ANY IDEAS?

Some Things Not Working In 2005 And Working In 2000

Mar 3, 2006

hi

I had a view in which I did something like this
isnull(fld,val) as 'alias'

when I assign a value to this in the client (vb 6.0) it works ok in sql2000 but fails in 2005.
When I change the query to fld as 'alias' then it works ok in sql 2005 .
why ?? I still have sql 2000 (8.0) compatability.

Also some queries which are pretty badly written run on sql 2000 but dont run at all in sql 2005 ???

any clues or answers ?? it is some configuration issue ?

Thanks in advance.

Tx Replication Works In 2000 But Not In 2005?

Apr 28, 2006

Hello,

I've got a simple transactional replication set up. I have a separate publisher, distributor, and subscriber with 76 articles (tables only) being pushed from the distributor.

I have this exact setup with the same tables and data working in the SQL 2000 environment. I am testing replication on our SQL 2005 test servers before moving to production, however when the distributor attempts to push out the initial snapshot I keep getting this error.

Error messages:

Select Statement Works In 2000 But Not In 2005

Jan 2, 2008

I hope this is a easy one. We are trying to find a fix for a select statement that works in 2000 but not in 2005 with a simple select statement.

The easiest statement that will duplicate the error is:

TestTable has 3 columns: Primary, strTest, strTest2

SELECT strTest, strTest AS Name
FROM TestTable
ORDER BY strTest2

If you sort by the Primary column you will not receive an error.

How can you select the same column twice and then sort in the SQL statement?

here is apiece of my code. I hope it Helps.

Bit-data From SQL Server 2000 (2005 Working, 2000 Doesn't)

May 19, 2008

Hi, I am trying to edit some data from a SQL2000-datasource in ASP.NET 2.0 and have a problem with a column that has bit-data and is used for selection. SQL2005 works fine when declaring             <SelectParameters>                <asp:Parameter DefaultValue="TRUE" Name="APL" Type="boolean" />            </SelectParameters>When running this code with SQL2000, there are no error-msgs, but after editing a record the "APL"-column looses its value of 1 and is set to 0. Looks like an issue with type-conversion, we've hit incompatibilities between SQL200 and 2005 with bit/boolean several times before. So, how is this done correctly with SQL2000?  (I've tried setting the Type to "int16" -> err. Also setting Defval="1" gave an err) ThanksMichael

Long Running Query In SQL 2005 But Works Fine In SQL 2000

Mar 28, 2008

I have a simple update statement that is running forever in SQL 2005 but works fine in SQL 2000. We have a new server we put SQL 2005, restored db. The table in question WEEKLYSALESHISTORY I even re-indexed all the indexes and rebuilt the stats as well. But still no luck, still running extremely long. 1 hour 20 minutes.

I'll try to give you some background on these table. Weeklysalehistory has approx 30 fields. I have 11 indesxes set up weekending date being one of them. And replication control has index on lasttrandatetime as well. So I think my indexes are fine.

/* Update WeekEnding Date for current weeks WeeklySales Records */
Update WeeklySalesHistory set
weekendingdate =
(SELECT LastTransDateTime from ReplicationControl
where TableName = 'WEEKHST')
where weekendingdate is null

Weekly sales has approx 100,000,000 rows
Replication control has 631,000 (Ithink I can delete some from here to bring it down to 100 or 200 records) Although I don't think this is issue since on 2000 has same thing and works fine.

I was trying to do this within SSIS and thought that was issue. I am new so SSIS but it runs long even if I just run it as a job with this simple Update statement so I think its something with tables, etc that is wrong.

One thing on noticed if I look at the statistics in SQL Server Management studio there is a ton of stats. some being statistics on indexes which makes sense then I have a ton of hind_113_9_6 and simiiar one like this. I must have 90 or so named like this. Not sure how to check on SQL 2000 all the stats to see if they moved over from there or what. I checked a few other tables and don't have all these extra stats. Could this be causing the issue do I need to delete all these extras? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

2000 &> 2005 And Xp_cmdshell Stopped Working!

Jun 18, 2008

Hi,

I'm just moving over one of our databases from SQL2000 to 2005. Everything is working fine, and all web sites are working, however I just can't seem to get xp_cmdshell to function on the 2005 server.

I have enabled xp_cmdshell, and when I run a stored procedure, which writes the contents of one column to a text file, it says "invalid object name". This table is definitely there, and is actually updated earlier on in the same SP, so permissions for that are fine.

This is the line causing the problem (if I take it out, the rest of the SP works no problems):

--write the text file
EXEC master.sys.xp_cmdshell 'bcp "SELECT newslettertext FROM mydatabase.dbo.newsletters" queryout D:ewslettertext extbody.txt -U -P -c'

Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'mydatabase.dbo.newsletters'.

SQLState = 37000, NativeError = 8180
Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Statement(s) could not be prepared.
NULL

Could it be to do with permissions on the master.sys.xp_cmdshell? If so, wouldn't it give me a "permission denied" error?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Query Working Fine On 2000 But Not On 2005

Apr 25, 2008

Hello to all,

if have a problem with a SELECT query that works very fine on SQL Server 2000 but not on 2005. I've transfered my db by creating a full backup and restoring the db on 2005. The db is working except this problem.

When i start executing it doesn't finish. I waited a couple of minutes. On 2000 it only takes about 6 seconds to run.

Here it is:

Code Snippet

SELECT * FROM PPS_TERMbesttmpwhere PPS_TermBestTmp.BestNr + CONVERT(varchar(30),CAST(REPLACE(PPS_TermBestTmp.Pos1, ',', '.') AS float),2)

NOT IN (SELECT PPS_TermBest.BestNr + CONVERT(varchar(30), PPS_TermBest.Pos1,2) FROM PPS_TermBest)
Any ideas?

Telnet Connection Works, Sql Cmd Connection Works, SQL Server Managment Studio 2005 Does Not

Jun 20, 2007

I'm having a strange problem with this but I know (and admit) that the problem is on my PC and nowhere else. My firewall was causing a problem because I was unable to PING the database server, switching this off gets a successful PING immediately. The most useful utility to date is running netstat -an in the command window. This illustrates all the connections that are live and ports that are being listed to. I can establish a connection both by running

telnet sql5.hostinguk.net 1433 and

sqlcmd -S sql5.hostinguk.net -U username -P password

Both these utilities show as establishing a connection in netstat so I am able to connect the database server every time, this worked throughout yesterday and has continued this morning.

The problem is when I attempt to use SQL Server Management Studio. When I attempt to connect to tcp:sql5.hostinguk.net, 1433 nothing shows in netstat at all. There is an option to encrypt the connection in the connection properties tab in management studio, when I enable this I do get an entry in netstat -an, see below:

TCP 81.105.102.47:1138 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT

TCP 81.105.102.47:1140 217.194.210.169:1433 TIME_WAIT

Amost as if it's trying the different ports but you get this time_wait thing. The error message is more meaningful and hopefull because I get:

A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the pre-login handshake. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.) (.Net SqlClient Data Provider)

I would expect this as the DNS has not been advised to encrypt the conection.

This is much better than the : Login failed for user 'COX10289'. (.Net SqlClient Data Provider) that I get, irrespective of whether I enter a password or not.

This is on a XP machine trying to connect to the remote webhosting company via the internet.

I can ping the server

I have enabled shared memory and tcp/ip in protocols, named pipes and via are disabled

I do not have any aliases set up

No I do not force encryption

I wonder if you have any further suggestions to this problem?

Reporting Services :: SSRS Windows Integrated Not Working To DNS Name / Works With Server Name

Aug 12, 2015

I have an acctest server (XX-ATS-ASSHP102) running SSRS, SQL DB Engine & SSAS. I'm trying to configure NATIVE SQL Reporting Services to use a data source with Windows Integrated mode towards a SSAS cube on the same server. When I use the servername (or 127.0.0.1) it works perfectly. But when I use the DNS name bidb.acctest.internal it fails with the error "The connection either timed out or was lost.". The profiler on SSAS says "anonymous login" so the Kerberos login is broken at some point. The weird thing is that this works perfectly in production environment, but I've missed something in the ACCTEST environment. The SPN for the serviceaccount running SSAS has correctect SPN:s:

MSOLAPSvc.3/bidb.acctest.internal
MSOLAPSvc.3/bidb.acctest.internal:MSSQLSERVER
MSOLAPSvc.3/XX-ATS-ASSHP102
MSOLAPSvc.3/XX-ATS-ASSHP102.XX.XXXXXXXXXXX.net
MSOLAPSvc.3/XX-ATS-ASSHP102.XX.XXXXXXXXXXX.net:MSSQLSERVER
MSOLAPSvc.3/XX-ATS-ASSHP102:MSSQLSERVER

The SSRS account has delegation with "any service". No account has the "sensitive" flag.DNS names are A-records, except the hostname for the SSRS site which is a c-name, but it's identical in production. The "impersonate client after login" and "replace token" permissions are correct in the policy. The rsreportserver.config says:

    <Authentication>
        <AuthenticationTypes>
            <RSWindowsNTLM/>
        </AuthenticationTypes>
        <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>Off</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionLevel>
        <RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>Proxy</RSWindowsExtendedProtectionScenario>
        <EnableAuthPersistence>true</EnableAuthPersistence>
    </Authentication>

both in production and in acctest env..

Data Disappear - SQL Server 2000 / ASP Interface

Jul 20, 2005

Hello,What could possibly cause data in the SQL server database to beremoved, except being deleted manually? We had a couple of situationswhere data in certain records disappeared although the records werestill there. The data is entered and editted through the web interfacein ASP. The web interface is accessed by anyone who has an account inour database.I am more of a web programmer, not a SQL server administrator, so notvery familiar with SQL Server log or error tracking. If you cansuggest any way to track this kind of events (data disappearing), Iwould appreciate it very much.HB Kim

Keyboard Not Working (backspace And Arrow Keys) When Viewing 2000 DTS Packages From 2005 (backward Compatibility)

May 4, 2006

I know my problem is not directly associated w/ SSIS, so please forgive the post here. I figured this would be the "most" appropriate place to post this challenge.

We're attempting to edit a 2000 DTS package in Design mode from within the 2005 SQL Management Studio. To do this we downloaded/installed the following packages from the MS download site:

Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components

We're able to open the package in design mode from the Management Studio (Server > Management > Legacy > Data Transformation Services > DTS Package Name). But, when the DTS designer is open, the backspace and arrow keys won't respond in the Management Studio. They begin responding when we close the DTS designer. There are no error messages when we close the DTS designer.

Does anyone know of a fix or a workaround? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

I have not yet set up SQL2K mail -> Notes, but I see in Q263556 a warning regarding extended MAPI and non-Exchange servers.

Just wondering if anyone is using a SQL2K - Notes MAPI profile -- and if any reliability issues have come up?

Thanks in advance

Interface For Visual C++ In VS 2005?

Jun 13, 2007

I've been tasked to understand and develop an easy interface to query (insert, select, update, etc) a sql server compact database on an x86 win ce 5 machine. I'm using VS 2005 and have all the necessary SDK's installed. The problem is I can't find any good tutorials or documentation on sql server compact coding in C++ (only in C# and VB). Do y'all have any suggestions on where I can get started to learn the basic c++ sql interface coding?

Thanks!
Jeff

Edit: I'd like to note that I can run the sample northwind project on a win ce 5 x86 emulator, so it's not the setup that I need help with, but the actual coding.

SQL Server 2000 + 2005 Working On Same Windows 2003 Server As Seperate Instances

Nov 20, 2006

Hi all,I just asked some people to help me out and phone microsoft with thefollowing information, kindly they refused unless we setup a supportcontract with them first, for pre-sales information. (That really doesnot sound like good business sense to me - anyway here is our problem,if anyone could help thanks)."To tell and ask microsoft:We will be setting up a microsoft sql server 2000 instance running on awindows 2003 server.1) We need to check this can run alongside a microsoft 2003 sql server(either workgroup or standard edition), on the same machine. Are thereany .dll clashes if we do this? If there are can we run SQL Server2000, in a virtual machine running windows 2000 professional. (I have alicenced copy we can use for this).2) If we run one instance of 2000, and one of 2003 of the sql servers, can one use the processor licence model, and one use the CAL licencemodel."Thanks for any help, and any idea why they actually force you to usenews groups for pre-sales information?David

IID_IDBInitialize Interface Of Sql Mobile 2005 Problem In VisualStudio2005

Jul 5, 2006

Opening a connection to the database in Visual Studio 2005 and while closing the connection donot release the IID_IDBInitialize interface ,properties and not Uninitialising.

Try to open database file using CFile to check existence.

Works perfectly using sqlce2.0 & evc4.0 project.

After upgrading the above project to Visual Studio 2005

Same CFile open method fails at run time

But if close the connection completely i.e. close the IID_IDBInitialize interface also .Then it works perfectly in Visual Studio 2005.

Is there any change in IID_IDBInitialize interface of sql mobile 2005 ???????

I have created a linked server on which following query works fine.

EXECUTE ('SELECT TOP 10 * FROM dummyOBJECTS') AT [REMOTE]

but the same statement executed with openquery

select * from openquery([remote],'select top 10 * from dummyObjects') returns following error.

Msg 7356, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "remote" supplied inconsistent metadata for a column. The column "dummyObjectID" (compile-time ordinal 1) of object "select top 10 * from dummyobjects" was reported to have a "Incomplete schema-error logic." of 0 at compile time and 0 at run time.

How To Show SQL Server Data Validation Error Messages In The VB 2005 Designed Interface ???

Most of the guys say professional programming is doing the validation stuff (such as the constraints and data integrity stuff like" [0-9][1] " and the use of LIKE IN keywords etc.) in the databse itself.

say i did the data validation contraints in SQL server itself. and now i connect the database with the interface made in 2005. and say a person enters some invalid data through the interface. but the error messages are generated by SQL server. how am i to display the SQL server generated error messages in the VB made interface??
