Xp_cmdshell Error In 6.5 For Non SA Login - Error 1326

Mar 17, 2000

I have a stored proc that attempts to execute xp_cmdshell using a login other than 'sa'. The permissions have been given to the login to execute xp_cmdshell and the stored procedure executes perfectly within the query analyzer in EM. However, when attempting to execute the same stored proc in ISQL_W under a login with permissions for everything as dbo (other than Master) I get error 1326 for LogonUser on line 359. This is with the "xp_cmdshell - Use SQLExecutiveCmdExec Account for Non SAs" disabled (as described as a "workaround" on the technet). Microsoft acknowledged this as being a 'bug' to 'fix' and put a 'fix' in Service Pack 5a. The server that is experiencing this problem is running service pack 5. Is there any difference between the service packs and if so, will installing service pack 5a help me? And if not, what can be done to alleviate this problem?

Error 1326... Named Pipes Problem?

Mar 20, 2000

Suddenly all of my logins through ODBC DSN are producing the 1326 error. I also cannot reach the server with the Net View tool, but I can Timbuktu
or PC Anywhere to the machine and work on it. This just happened today and seems to be a freak occurence.

Could an administrator have disabled the ability of Named Pipes to make a connection?

Unable To Remote Connect, SQL Server, Error: 1326

Nov 18, 2006

SQL Express running on Server 2003 SP1, not a domain controller - but prior to installing SQL Express, I did dcpromo promote and then demoted it back to a workgroup server.

Connecting with Vista build 5600, Studio express 9.00.2047 with MDAC 6.00.5600.1638. Server 2003 MDAC is 2.82.1830.

I came across this article on the net:

http://www.developersdex.com/sql/message.asp?p=1867&ID=%3C309C7496-F36B-4398-9C52-322E6CB8DE3B%40microsoft.com%3E

Is my mis-matched versions of MDAC causing me this grief?

Otherwise, I have remote set up for TCP and Named Pipes, I've run sp_configure 'remote admin connections', 1; my login is set to SQL Authentication with everything granted. I've tried running the service as network, local and MachineAdministrator; ports are open per:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555585

I wanted to ask before I start replacing the MDAC on either the Vista or Server 2003 machine... If that's the problem, which version(s) do I change? to?

Full error message:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. While connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be cuased by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connecitons, (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 1326)

Thanks, John

Error 1326 Logon Failure When Attempting To Backup To Remote Server

Oct 18, 2007

Hi all:

We currently have a production server (prodserver) and backup server (backupserver) in the same domain, and I am attempting to backup dbs from the production box on to the backup box using the following:

backup database db to disk = '\backupservere$ackupdb.bak' with init

when executing from SSMS, I receive the following error:

Msg 3201, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot open backup device '\backupservere$ackupdb.bak' Operating system error 1326 (Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password)

Here's where the issue lies for me:

Both the production and backup box are running services under the same domain accounts, let's call it "domainsqlagent"

domainsqlagent has domain admin rights on backupserver and prodserver

I can login to both the production and backup servers using the domain account, map drives, hit administrative shares, drag and drop files, etc between the servers

If I use xp_cmdshell to try and simply move a file between prodserver and backupserver, I receive the above error as well. However, if I open an cmd window and execute the move command from DOS, it will successfully move.

There is a development server on the domain as well (devserver) using domainsqlagent to run the service accounts, and I can successfully backup databases from dev to prod, dev to backup, backup to dev, backup to prod, prod to dev, but NOT prod to backup
Finally, if I create a maintenance plan in SSMS, I cannot create a connection to the backup server (error reads the connection may not be configured correctly or you may not have the right permissions on this connection)

The backup server was changed to a different domain (domain2) before I arrived here, but has been switched back now, rebooted, service accounts changed via Configuration Manager, services restarted (and rebooted again for good measure).
Does SSMS use a different security context to create the connections to remote servers? From all my tests, the domainsqlagent account has all the correct rights and is working OK. Could this be a network issue? The network admin and I have been banging our heads against a wall for the past couple of days, so if anyone has seen something like this, I'd appreciate any help.

Thanks,

Craig

Xp_cmdshell Error

Feb 26, 2001

I'm trying to run a .vbs file through the xp_cmdshell sp. It works fine, but if there's an error in the vbscript, the xp_cmdshell will just hang.

When I run the file from the command line, an error dialog box comes up expecting you to click ok. Sql just hangs waiting for this to be resolved.

Anyone have any ideas about how to get around this?

thanks

Error In --&&> EXEC Xp_cmdshell 'bcp SELECT * FROM Tbl A Where A.flag=N Queryout F.txt -c -T'

some one can tell if i can make a "where" clause inside the BCP , when i say : select * FROM tbl where flag=N , usually the where flag='N' works with the ' ' , but it gives no error when save the store procedure without it ' ' saves nicely the SP,

but
like this it saves well "SELECT * FROM tbl where flag=N" and
when i execute it, give a sql statement error "Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Invalid column name N."

i dont now , any help

PS: perhaps at the end of the BCP ---> -c -T , must have some more or less

Problems Creating Error File When Using Bulk Insert Or BCP From Xp_cmdshell.

EXEC xp_cmdshell 'bcp database.dbo.table in c:scheduled.csv -S SERVERSQLEXPRESS -T -t, -r -c -e "error.txt"';

This is returning the following error code.  I even tried placing the command in a seperate command file and calling that with no success.  If I run this from the command line the error file generation does work.

SQLState = HY000, NativeError = 0

Error = [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Unable to open BCP error-file

Error message when using BULK INSERT as follows:

BULK INSERT database.dbo.table from 'c:unscheduled.csv' with

Returns the following error message:

The Bulk Insert actually creates a empty error.txt file (0kb) and never preforms the insert, I can not find any examples of anyone using the -ERRORFILE switch on BULK INSERT.  Prolly some default security setting to allow file creation/modification I am missing.  Anyone help me out?  Thanks.

I can use the SQL mangement studio to conenct to the database using this same login.
The login has all the server roles assigned to it also.

Can anyone shed some light as to what may be the problem?

Access Denied Error Message Using Xp_cmdshell To Access Network Share

Jan 14, 2007

When running the following statement in SQL 2005, I get the error message "Access is denied":

exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'TYPE \SERVER-BSHAREFILE.TXT'

The following are true about the network:

The SQL Server is installed on SERVER-A.
SERVER-A and SERVER-B are Windows 2003 servers on the same Windows 2003 domain.
The SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are running under the domain account SQLSERVICE.
SQLSERVICE is a member of the Domain Admins group.
The Domain Admins group is part of the local Administrators group on SERVER-B.
The SQLSERVICE account has also explicitly been given Full Control to the folder referenced by \SERVER-BSHARE
xp_cmdshell use has been enabled on the SQL Server.

If I run the following command in SQL:

exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'whoami'the following is returned: DOMAINSQLSERVICE
If I change the command to access the c: drive instead of a network drive, it executes successfully.

Can anyone shed some light on why I still cannot access any of the files in this folder using xp_cmdshell?

MS SQL Login Error

Oct 14, 2005

Dear all...

I am not necessarily so new to SQL (MySQL, for example) so much as to SQL server. I have the following situation:

I have a web application which I have developed on a Microsoft Web Server. I connected this application to Data Sources (ODBC) function on the start menu. I have been coding and coding away. When I'm on the web server, I can see my application in all its glory in a browser.

However, when I try to run the web application in a browser on any other machine (including the SQL server), I get an error message:

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e4d'

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.

I have been all over the Internet and have read a lot that I don't entirely understand about this, and feel like I have tried everything.

There are other web sites hosted on this machine that I know are currently working, and I tried mimicking them. So this is what I think I have going now, which isn't working:

- I have SQL and Windows Authentication checked off.
- I have anonymous user access checked off on the Security Directory tab, using a login IUSR_WEB_SERVER_NAME (although the password MAY be incorrect, but I'm not getting any message to that effect - there is no one around for a while who might be able to confirm whether it's right or wrong)
- I have integrated windows authentication checked off.
- I connect to the database using the following ASP:
set conn=Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
conn.Open "DB NAME"

If it is simply the password of IUSR_WEB_SERVER_NAME that's holding me back, I guess I'll have to wait, although I'll feel better. It's just odd that something else entirely was there before, and then I changed it, but the error was the same.

Any ideas?

Bcp Error Login

Jul 12, 2007

Code Snippet

declare @viewName varchar(1000)
-- define createView
SET @createView = '

CREATE VIEW v_tmpParticipantTrade AS
SELECT top 10 *
FROM dbo.ParticipantTradeStatusChange
GO'

-- if view exists DROP else do NOTHING
if exists(select * from sysobjects WHERE name = 'v_tmpParticipantTrade')
DROP VIEW v_tmpParticipantTrade

-- create View v_tmpParticipantTrades
exec (@createView)

DECLARE @bcpCommand VARCHAR(8000)
--SET VARIABLE WITH BCP SELECT
SET @bcpCommand = 'bcp dbo.v_tmpParticipantTrade out '
--SET VARIABLE WITH BCP SELECT + ADDITIONAL SAVE AND CREDENTIALS
SET @bcpCommand = @bcpCommand + '"C:
esults.csv" -c -T -SLOCALHOST -E'
EXEC Master..xp_cmdshell @bcpCommand

from this i get the following error - mainly from the BCP part

Error = [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database requested in login 'dbo'. Login fails.
