xp_startmail is documented as returning two code: 0 success, 1 failure.
It would be nice to check the return code.
When mail has already been started it returns a 1. This case appears
indistinguishable from a failure to start. (MSFT should have provided
separate return codes for failure-already started, and failure-cannot
start, but they did not.)
Does anyone know how to distinguish these cases. Text is printed
indicating that it has already been started but I don't know how to
programmatically grab this case.
It seems the conventional workaround is not to check the return code at
all (or to start mail once at server startup and never start it again).
Neither is ideal.
I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.
I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT) The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.
I have two parameters mapped:
tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO. returnvalue output long 1
I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.
The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.
Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.
Guys! I'm using SQL Mail to send out Emails to Customers re: outstanding Invoices. I also use SQL Mail on the same box to send out emails to our Sales Reps with summaries of outstanding invoices. Now, I've set up multiple outlook profiles on the server. I tried using
DOES NOT WORK!!! the profile does'nt switch at all. SQL Mail sends out all the emails using the profile that it started with. How can I use xp_startmail and xp_stopmail to switch between different user profiles.
I am having this issue with my application developed in VB.Net. The thing was working properly for the last couple of years. But suddenly it is giving me this error message when ever I try to execute the following code.
mycommand = New SqlCommand(sqlstr, SqlConnection1)
SqlConnection1.Open()
mycommand.ExecuteReader()
The operation is never related to sending e-mail and even the master Database, it is used just to display records on grid.
Here is the error message comeing out when it reaches the mycommand.ExecuteReader():
EXECUTE permission denied on object 'xp_startmail', database 'master', owner 'dbo'.
Hi I have a maintenance proceudre that trims data tables on the live site, but prior to trimming i need to execute procs via linked servers at four seprate locations (subscribers) to ensure all of their data is up to date before the trim happens (the deletes are blocked at the subs). my problem is that if i go exec @error_id = procname and an error such as permission being denied or proc missing, the return code is still 0 - therefor it looks like th proc ran successfully, meanwhile it didnt. does anyone know how to check for these sorts of erors, so i dont leave this to chance?
Can anyone help me with below error code i am in getting while runninga C program using sqls.Password: passwordSQL Return Code: -25001BATCH_LOG_PATH:Thank you,D
I was thinking of using a CTE to return history, have you ever done this?
I know this can be done in other ways but I wanted to wrap this CTE in a view so people could join to it.
Here is an example table: KEY ASOFDATE A 1/1/2007 A 3/1/2007 B 1/1/2007 B 2/5/2007 B 3/6/2007
I want the results to look like: KEY START END A 1/1/2007 3/1/2007 A 3/1/2007 NULL B 1/1/2007 2/5/2007 B 2/5/2007 3/6/2007 B 3/6/2007 NULL
This would be even better:
ID KEY ASOFDATE 1 A 1/1/2007 2 A 3/1/2007 3 B 1/1/2007 4 B 2/5/2007 5 B 3/6/2007
I want the results to look like: ID KEY START END 1 A 1/1/2007 3/1/2007 2 A 3/1/2007 NULL 3 B 1/1/2007 2/5/2007 4 B 2/5/2007 3/6/2007 5 B 3/6/2007 NULL
Hi. We're experiencing the exact same problem described in this post: http://tinyurl.com/ynqv7o We've tried the 11 steps described there and it didn't fix the problem -- just as it didn't fix it for that person.
I've created a stored procedure which inserts values into a table and upon successful execution the RC column gets returned along with the Identity value (I'm using SELECT SCOPE_IDENTITY()), but I don't want to RC column, I only want to get the Id number of the current row. I'm doing this using the Query Analyzer.
Is there a way to suppress the RC column? I have run the same query on different servers and the RC col doesn't show up. I only want the ID value to put into an ASP.NET page.
While testing different query methods from ASP.NET (Output parameter, Return_Value, etc) did I set a flag within SQL Server?
i have sql statement in ExecuteSQLTask, connecting to AdventureWorks
BEGIN TRY insert into person.contacts(contactid) values (1); END TRY BEGIN CATCH SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() AS ErrorNumber; END CATCH;
i purposely put a table that does not exist in the database to catch the error. however, the error number that is 208 won't appear, instead the whole error message will be displayed.
if i change the query in try block to insert into person.contact(contactid) values (1);
it'll return the error number 544, which is correct.
Hi all, if have problem to display error message in vb.net that comes from a stored procedure. IF ...... then msgbox "ERROR at Update" returnvalue = SUCCES ELSE Msgbox "Successfull Updated" returnvalue = ERROREND IFHow can I return values from Stored Procedure to VB.NET and then give to User a Message that the Update was successful or not.Thanks to all
Does anyone know how to call a SQL store procedure that return a value to the page? I've a simple data entry aspx page with several textboxes and a save button. When user fill out the form and click save/submit, it calls a store procedure to insert a row into a SQL table and automatically generate an ID that need to return the the page to display for the user. Are there a similar article somewhere?
I used a function to create dataset as below: Public Function GetSQLDataSet(ByVal SQL As String) As DataSet ...... Can anyone tell me how to capture the return code of a process launched by an Execute Process Task? I am able to capture the output by using the StandardOutputVariable but can't seem to capture the actual code.
Hi.here is my code with my problem described in the syntax.I am using asp.net 1.1 and VB.NETThanks in advance for your help.I am still a beginner and I know that your time is precious. I am TRYING to write code to combine two tables and then return the maximum value of one table, but SQL Server keeps telling me that the column is not valid.... I have added attached screenshots to show that it IS a valid column, so I cannot figure out what is the retarded issue!!
We made SSIS package in dev environment in windows 2008R2 and SQL server 2012. Same packages were placed on SAN disks in cluster environment and are invoked with security contexxt of admin user and wih dtexec utility ( we call this using an sp). rarely but procedure completed i see the log text file by SSIS package and find the return code 5 means package is unable to load. i canst found what are the exact reasons for return code 5.
I have sql code that returns the correct number of record when run without an aggregate function like count(myfield) and group by myfield. It always returns 86 row which is correct when Select DISTINCT is used. As, expected when DISTINCT is not used I get double the number if rows or 172. But when I count(myfield) and group by myfield the count is 172 and not 86. The strangest thing about this is that when I am grouping a set of items
Group 1
Group 2
Group 3
The other group sum up correctly while others don't. What can explain this? Here is the code.
Select DISTINCT ws.p4Districtnumber, ws.cycle, ws.worksetid, count(msi.MeterSessionInputKey) as ASND from fcs.dbo.WorkSet as ws left outer join fcs.dbo.WorkAssignment as wa on ws.WorkSetID = wa.WorkSetID left outer join fcs.dbo.MeterSessionInput as msi on wa.worksetkey = msi.worksetkey
I have SCCM 2012 R2. I'm working on a custom report, using MS SQL Server Report Builder. I have other custom reports that work fine....they prompt for a collection and return results just on that one collection. The problem with the one I'm working on now is that it runs fine except for that....it prompts for a collection, lets you choose one collection,returns the desired info on each line, but it returns all systems, not just the one collection you selected. IOW, I'm having trouble getting the "where" clause to work right.
Here is the code for a report that works (it returns the selected collection and counts the patches needed by each machine):
select CS.Name0, CS.UserName0, CS.ResourceID, case when (sum(case when UCS.status=2 then 1 else 0 end))>0 then ((cast(sum(case when UCS.status=2 then 1 else 0 end)as int)))
[code]....
Here is the code for the report that I'm having trouble with. What you see runs but it has none of the collection selection code I've tried since I haven't gotten it to work:
SELECT DISTINCT(CPU.SystemName0) AS [System Name], CPU.Manufacturer0 AS Manufacturer, CPU.Name0 AS Name, COUNT(CPU.ResourceID) AS [Number of CPUs], CPU.NumberOfCores0 AS [Number of Cores per CPU],
[Code] ....
get the collection selection code to work in the second (processor count) sample?
I am trying to use SSIS to update an AS400 DB2 database by calling a stored procedure on the AS400 using an OLE DB command object. I have a select statement running against the SQL Server 2005 that brings back 20 values, all of which are character strings, and the output of this select is piped into the OLE DB command object. The call from SSIS works just fine to pass parameters into the AS400 as long as the stored procedure being called does not have an output parameter defined in its signature. There is no way that I can find to tell the OLE DB command object that one of the parameters is an output (or even an input / output) parameter. As soon as one of the parameters is changed to an output type, I get an error like this:

I really need to know if the call to the AS400 stored procedure succeeded or not, so I need a way to obtain and evaluate the output parameter. Is there a better way to accomplish what I am trying to do? Any help is appreciated.
I am just trying to capture the return code from a stored proc as follows and if I get a 1 I want the SQL Task to follow a failure(red) constrainst workflow and send a SMTP mail task warning the customer. How do I achieve the Exec SQL Task portion of this, i get a strange error message [Execute SQL Task] Error: There is an invalid number of result bindings returned for the ResultSetType: "ResultSetType_SingleRow".

We are executing a SSIS package using a xp_cmdshell command in a SP as shown below. This package does consumes time to execute almost 90 minutes and does get executed successfully too. But the strange thing is we don't get the result in @result variable just because somehow the next sql statement after the below highlighted statement doesn't get executed at all. After checking execution stats for the SP using the query attached below we observed that somehow the SP vanishes out of the execution stats for the server.

I'm trying to create a report that's based on a SQL-2005 Stored Procedure.
I added the Report Designer, a Report dataset ( based on a shared datasource).
When I try to build the project in BIDS, I get an error. The error occurs three times, once for each parameter on the stored procedure.
I'll only reproduce one instance of the error for the sake of brevity.
[rsCompilerErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the query parameter 'UserID' contains an error : [BC30654] 'Return' statement in a Function, Get, or Operator must return a value.
I've searched on this error and it looks like it's a Visual Basic error :
Hi all--I'm trying to convert a function which I inherited from a SQL Server 2000 DTS package to something usable in an SSIS package in SQL Server 2005. Given the original code here: Function Main() on error resume next dim cn, i, rs, sSQL Set cn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") cn.Open "Provider=sqloledb;Server=<server_name>;Database=<db_name>;User ID=<sysadmin_user>;Password=<password>" set rs = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") set rs = DTSGlobalVariables("SQLstring").value
for i = 1 to rs.RecordCount sSQL = rs.Fields(0).value cn.Execute sSQL, , 128 'adExecuteNoRecords option for faster execution rs.MoveNext Next
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
This code was originally programmed in the SQL Server ActiveX Task type in a DTS package designed to take an open-ended number of SQL statements generated by another task as input, then execute each SQL statement sequentially. Upon this code's success, move on to the next step. (Of course, there was no additional documentation with this code. :-)
Based on other postings, I attempted to push this code into a Visual Studio BI 2005 Script Task with the following change:
public Sub Main()
...
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Success
End Class
I get the following error when I attempt to compile this:
Error 30209: Option Strict On requires all variable declarations to have an 'As' clause.
I am new to Visual Basic, so I'm on a learning curve here. From what I know of this script: - The variables here violate the new Option Strict On requirement in VS 2005 to declare what type of object your variable is supposed to use.
- I need to explicitly declare each object, unless I turn off the Option Strict On (which didn't seem recommended, based on what I read).
Given this statement:
dim cn, i, rs, sSQL
I'm looking at "i" as type Integer; rs and sSQL are open-ended arrays, but can't quite figure out how to read the code here:
This code seems to create an instance of a COM component, then pass provider information and create the recordset being passed in by the previous task, but am not sure whether this syntax is correct for VS 2005 or what data type declaration to make here. Any ideas/help on how to rewrite this code would be greatly appreciated!
Table 1: AddressBook Fields --> User Name, Address, CountryCode
Table 2: Country Fields --> Country Code, Country Name
Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.
I am trying to bring my stored proc's into the 21st century with try catch and the output clause. In the past I have returned info like the new timestamp, the new identity (if an insert sproc), username with output params and a return value as well. I have checked if error is a concurrency violation(I check if @@rowcount is 0 and if so my return value is a special number.)
I have used the old goto method for trapping errors committing or rolling back the transaction.
Now I want to use the try,catch with transactions. This is easy enough but how do I do what I had done before?
I get an error returning the new timestamp in the Output clause (tstamp is my timestamp field -- so I am using inserted.tstamp).
Plus how do I check for concerrency error. Is it the same as before and if so would the check of @@rowcount be in the catch section?
So how to return timestamp and a return value and how to check for concurrency all in the try/catch.
by the way I read that you could not return an identity in the output clause but I had no problem.
Hello, I'm using ASP.Net to update a table which include a lot of fields may be around 30 fields, I used stored procedure to update these fields. Unfortunatily I had to use a FormView to handle some TextBoxes and RadioButtonLists which are about 30 web controls.
