1.6TB Of Unallocated Partition Showing After Upgrade - Inaccessible

Aug 3, 2015

I just performed an upgrade from win 7-64 to Win 10. I had a 128GB SSD with the OS installed and a 4TB Seagate drive broke into two partitions- F and H drives at 2TB each. These were both application partitions only. After the upgrade, only one partition showed up (F) and the (H) is gone. The F drive now shows 1.6TB of unallocated space which I assume was the H drive. Drive manager doesn't let me do anything with it.

Partition Became Unallocated

Jan 31, 2016

Interesting start to the weekend with Friday evening booting up my pc to find that Thursdays overnight update had left my partition drive unallocated. Read around for a few hours and found that reinstalling my acronis virtual disk driver would be the way to go. All seemed well and then there was another windows update and again the beyond the 2TB partition was gone. This time there is no fix with reinstalling the virtual disk driver and I don't want to mess around and wipe the perfectly good partition that Windows 10 has decided is not a fan of.

Merging Unallocated Space With Primary Partition

Aug 31, 2015

After I free upgraded from 8.1 to 10 a new partition showed up. I just deleted it and it became unallocated space.

How can I merge this space with my primary partition. Both are on a 256 SSD.

When I right click C: in disk management, the extend volume choice is grayed.

Drivers/Hardware :: Can't Extend Partition Into Unallocated Space

Jan 21, 2016

Until recently, I ran a dual boot system with Ubuntu - but for business reasons, I uninstalled it (along with it's bootloader). Anyway, I cleared up the hard drive space in the Disk Management app on windows 10, I have about 350GB free space from Ubuntu and I cannot extend the C: partition, you can see what I mean here

I can't seem to extend my partition and whatever program I use I have to buy the full version to extend my partition,

Drivers/Hardware :: Combine Unallocated Space To System Partition

Dec 17, 2015

I had 2 useless partitions, one at the very beginning of my HD and the second at the very end. My setup is GPT Basic btw.

I would like to know, using MiniTool Partition Wizard version 9.1, if it is possible to merge these former partitions (now 'unallocated' space) into the Windows partition (C??

I right clicked on both of the unallocated space 'partitions' but any operations (namely, move) was greyed out.

I would like to clean up the disk layout (even if we are talking about only 1 GB. of space)

Drivers/Hardware :: Unable To Create / Combine Partition From Unallocated Space

Jan 27, 2016

I just assembled a new PC. It has a single 4TB hard drive. During Windows 10 installation, I created a 200gb partition to install to as the C: drive. It auto partitioned my drive into a 500MB system reserved partition, my C: drive, and two unallocated spaces of 1852.69GB and 1678.02GB respectively. The 1852GB space I can create a partition on, but the 1678GB space I cannot do anything with: Cannot create a partition, and cannot combine it with the rest of the unallocated space.

I would like to combine the two unallocated spaces to create a single partition from the remaining unallocated spaces, but cannot figure out how. I contacted Microsoft tech support via chat, allowed them to remote in to my machine, but they could not determine the issue either.

Explorer Suddenly Not Showing Free Space For One Partition?

Dec 12, 2015

This has suddenly happened, explorer is missing the 'space' information from the display.

The build up to this was simply creating a Windows disk image using W10's own utility. Mysteriously the space bar on the problem partition showed some usage, about 1.7Gb but nothing could be found in the partition. I've even tried deleting the partition in Disk Management and reassigning a drive letter but nothing gets the display back.

Drivers/Hardware :: GPT Reserved Partition Showing As Local Disk

Mar 5, 2016

I have a two laptops with Windows 10 x64. Recently I noticed new partition with next available letter. Size is 128mb and it can't be accessed. I checked in Disk Management but this partition is not listed there as per the below screen:

I used MiniTool Partition Wizard and managed to see details about this partition.

I tried Diskpart to remove Drive Letter but no luck:

This happened at the same time on my two HP laptops but not sure what could cause it. Maybe some Windows update? I do not remember installing any new apps. I would like to remove this disk from the list of available disks.

Drivers/Hardware :: Hard Drive Inaccessible After Upgrade (Apps Stored On Drive Run)

Jan 14, 2016

Problem: When I click on my H: drive or try to access it from the command line, it gives me an access denied error. However, all of the applications that I have installed on that drive run without issue. So, there is some access there. (See attached images. The first shows the hard drive state in diskmanager and in windows explorer. The second image shows the minecrafter launcher profile (that it is stored in H: and the application running, proving that there is some access.

System: Home built PC: (C:) 240GB SSD for OS, (E:) 1TB HDD for file storage and backup, (H:) 1TB HDD for large applications and video editing files. All drives are Simple, Basic, and none have encryption. All use the SATA connectors.

Process: I had Windows 7 Home 64 bit with, among many other things, Comodo Internet Security, Virtualbox, ImageDisk.
During the upgrade process, I noticed that Windows 10, during the upgrade, ran the file system check and fix "problems" on the H: drive.

(Side note) Having forgotten to uninstall Comodo before the upgrade, I did not have network after the upgrade. The fix was non-trivial as I had to use a second computer to download the unofficial comodo uninstaller. Reboot. Uninstall the network devices. Reboot. And once Windows 10 was up and running, it reinstalled the network devices and the network was available.

Still, whether before or after the Comodo uninstall and reinstall, the uninstall of ImageDisk, or the uninstall of the Virtualbox network device, I have no access to the H: drive.

After I upgraded to Windows 10 I noticed it created another hidden partition. I upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate 64 to Win 10 Pro 64. Originally Windows 7 had a 100mb System Reserved now it's showing a unnamed 456mb partition. Do I need to keep these? Seems Strange.

I have another PC i clean installed Windows 10 only made the 450mb unnamed partition not the 100mb one. Seems no need for that one? I wanted to go back to 7 but was over the 30 days seems it all deleted to go back

Shut Down During Upgrade - Recovery Partition Is Also Corrupted

Jan 16, 2016

I accidentaly shutted down the Lenovo Yoga tablet 2 8" Windows 8.1 during Win10 update. The system won't boot and I don't know what to do. Recovery partition is also corrupted.

What I've tried so far:

1) Install clean Win10 x86 Home copy using Microsoft Media tool - Windows will be installed, but touchscreen, sound etc. doesn't work. Windows Update is unable to find and install those drivers

2) Install clean Win 8.1 x86 Enterprise copy using Microsoft Media tool, then in repair mode try to switch Windows.old Windows, Users and Program Files with current system - doesn't work, the system won't boot and everytime I try to boot the system, it tries to repair system. Without success of course.

Download Windows 8.1 with Bing x86 in hope the system will be in the same condition as I bought it. I also hope it will find required drivers.

Installation :: Upgrade Makes Huge Recovery Partition

Sep 25, 2015

My Dell venue pro 11 tablet comes with a 32gb inbuilt space with windows 8.1. Then I got the free windows 10 upgrade which went smoothly.

But now the problem is after the upgrade there was very little space left in my Cdrive. The recovery partition takes up 6.5gb of space. I thought of deleting it using a 3rd party software.

I need to free up that space, currently i have 11 gb free space, adding this would give me 17 gb.

As I am unable to set the upgrade option, what is the alternate to install Windows 10 to my VM?

Upgrade Error From Win 8.1 - Couldn't Update System Reserve Partition

Aug 8, 2015

System stats...Athlon 860K, Asus A55BM-E, GeForce 550Ti, 8GB Ram

Win 8.1 was installed from retail DVD onto a virgin 500GB mechanical HDD. I upgraded shortly after to a Samsung 840 EVO 120GB SSD and cloned the mechanical drive over, tested, and then formatted the mechanical drive for data. I got some real strange (to me) drive partitions - 100MB 'Data' drive which is almost full (cannot access) and a 350MB 'System Reserve' drive. The mechanical drive is a separate letter and all seems to work swimmingly. I sort of assumed this was normal.

Upon installing WinX I get the above error...from what i've read, people are having challenges moving from Win7 due to the fact that this reserve drive is only 100MB and it needs to be 300-450...well, mine's 350mb so not sure what gives.

Unallocated Disc Space

Dec 16, 2015

For various reasons I decided to completely format my hard drive and partitions when installing windows 10, to give it a clean start. Now when I'm in windows 10 I have 2 drives, at 465gb each and a third one with 40mbs allocated as Dell Utilities and 930gb of unallocated space. No matter what I try I cannot link that unallocated space to anything. Even trying to create a simple volume out of it falls down by saying "the size of the extent is less than the minimum". I've tried extending my existing drives and using it but it throws up the same error or something about not enough space.

Installation :: Initial Setup Showing No Option For Upgrade

Aug 2, 2015

As I stated in the subject line, Windows 10 setup, whether using the regular update method, running the ISO from within Windows, or using the Media Creation Tool, only asks for product key and there is no option (button) for 'Upgrade'.

This may sound confusing so I want to make it clear that I am NOT trying to do a clean install on a system that hasn't been activated yet. I'm talking about the very first upgrade install. It won't work.

A couple of days ago I DID see the 'Upgrade this PC' (or something like that) and the install started but failed due to the ever popular Pentium G3258 CPU problem. There was advice all over the 'Net that all you had to do was disable one of the CPU cores in the BIOS and the install would complete just fine.

So I disabled the core and tried to start the install again.

Now the installation procedure won't even begin. It just sits there. It says 'Product key" in big letters and "Windows isn't activated on this PC. This means you'll have to enter the Windows 10 product key below or exit" and the only two buttons are Back and Next, both of which are grayed out.

I thought maybe the Windows 10 installation files were corrupt or something so I wiped the system and reinstalled 7 from scratch (Oh yeah, that was really a fun part of my day) and re-downloaded and used the Media Creation Tool again and selected (whatever it says) to begin the upgrade installation and now it's still doing what it was before, asking for a product key instead of running the upgrade installation.

I want to make it clear one more time because I'll get TL;DR answers such as "You can't do a clean install, you have to do the upgrade method first so Windows 10 can generate your hash and activate":

I am NOT attempting to do a clean install. I'm trying to run the initial 'Upgrade' method. I fully understand that you can't do a clean install without the upgrade being completed first. Why it's asking for a product key instead of starting an upgrade installation?

Drivers/Hardware :: Secondary 3TB HDD Not Showing In Explorer After Upgrade

Jan 31, 2016

My setup before the problem was:
- Windows 8.1 in a 250GB SSD with Linux dual boot
- Secondary 160GB HDD (fs: ntfs, type: primary)
- Secondary 3TB HDD (fs: ntfs, type: gpt)

The 3TB drive was working normally on windows 8.1 when I bought it. After some months I decided to upgrade to Windows 10. After that, I cannot access my drive and Disk Management shows just grey options for the drive.

[URL]

After that I did a clean Windows 8.1 install again just to see if it was an OS problem, but now the same is going on with the management system. I used MiniTool Partition Wizard to check what's going on and this is what it shows

[URL]

What I tried doing is to force a label on this drive with MiniTool (in this case, D:, but then when I try to access the folders in Explorer it says 'D: is not accessible, access denied'. I already tried giving me all permissions/full control in the security tab in various ways but none worked, it still said 'Access Denied'.

[URL]

The only way I could finally access it is by killing explorer.exe and then starting it again with Admin rights, but once I reboot the system, the drive dissappears again and I have to do everything all over (assign label with MiniTool -> kill explorer -> open explorer with admin rights).

[URL]

P.S: Before you ask, I am not trying to recover deleted data. The partition exists, and I can access it through MiniTool Partition Wizard (since it recognizes it as a active EFI Healthy Partition on a GPT formatted drive). The problem is trying to access through Windows Explorer to the data.

Networking :: Wired Network Adapter Is Not Showing After Automatic Upgrade

Sep 15, 2015

However my wifi is working fine and can access Internet. I tried to re-install the LAN driver (Atheros AR8152 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller Driver); it ask for upgrade/repair/de-install means driver is already present in the system. In spite of that upgraded the dirver (got the upgraded driver setup from Dell). Unfortunately, the device is still not visible in device manager.
