View 1 RepliesI have my user account which is connected with ms account which shows my email along with my user name on login screen. I made one more admin account without ms account and made it a default user with password. Now on login screen on left side both my accounts show up. Is there way to hide my original account from this login screen because I do not want anyone sitting with me could know my email as this account shows my email along with user name.
View 7 RepliesNew in Windows 10 the file explorer opens in documents folder no matter which folder is clicked on. Open with in context works ok. Windows 10 is an update of Windows 8.1.
View 4 Repliesis there a way to hide or remove the user picture at the login screen?
I've managed to change the background image of the login screen, but that big circle that shows a picture of the user is pointless and ruins my image.
After installing visual basics dlls.. After some minutes my windows Explorer started showing error.. This file does not have a program association with it for performing this action. Please install a program or l, if one is already installed, create an association in the default program control panel.. . This error pop ups whenever i tries to open Explorer directly from Taskbar. ..
View 1 RepliesIn Windows 10, whenever I insert a USB or External HDD, it gives me two listings for it in the Explorer pane:
Is there any way I can remove the second listing? Preferably the standalone one, as I'm used to it being under "This PC", muscle memory y'know.
is there a way to disable or not show any previous searches that have been performed for the windows explorer?
View 3 RepliesI am running a multiboot W7-pro and W10-pro with several harddisks build in the computer to discover that after W10 used a disk W7 wants to check it to find no errors. Beside that I am not allowed to delete some folders I created in W7 after using them in W10 and they are set to free for use for everybody.
W7 now askes me to get permission from that everybody. I think they mean the W10-everybody. Understand that security is important nowadays but this is becoming a disaster! Also discovered that running the backupapplication Cobian (that always did a perfect job in W7) now is not allowd to acces lots of files in W7 anymore after W10 did ?????something??????.
Another example: I have two SATA backup 1 Tb Disks I switch every few weeks. W10 refused to see the new one after the first switch. Had to go deep into settings to carefully trying to open its content again as W10 told me zero bytes were used. In the end the 900 Gb data was there again but I have forgotten all the steps needed to fix it.
My best guess is that beside Microsoft is messing around with accounts and rights to get full control of your computer. They do not want you to be in control yourself anymore and you have to (must) only use W10 in the future. I am starting to feel a big fool that upgraded to W10 as I am loosing control over my PC's and home-network day by day!!!!
I was in my users folders & deleted them (Download, Favorites, Videos etc...)Then, i realized that my start menu which has option to "ON" to make them appear, got issue with link missing.I recreated all the forders by default with windows tools (regedit & i have all references created in reg %USERPROFILE%* & in my user folder)
So... i've tried a last attempt by, creating a new user, & create Start Menu Places & pushing the links etc but even with that, nothing done (looks like it's more for people getting grey menu on/off)HOW to retrieve the missing link from elements in start menu for :
- Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos.
All the others links are working :
- Homegroup, Network, Personal Folder, File Explorer, Settings, Power, All apps.
My account is 'Lenovo' all the others i never use, they're all empty.
I noticed the folders 'default.migrated' and 'UpdatusUser', i've never seen them before how do i remove them?
I'd also like to remove public and the hidden 'default' folder if it's possible?
Is it normal for it to say 'windows 8' when i have 10 installed?
I have a touchscreen laptop and 3 user accounts, one of which is for my children (aged 3 and 5).
I would like to be able to make the default mode for my children's account 'tablet mode' (to make it as simple as possible for them to use and access key apps) while keeping the mode as 'normal desktop mode' for my wife and my accounts.
When I change my kids account to 'tablet mode' (using the switch in the 'Action centre') , when i log back into my account, that also then defaults to tablet mode, which is not what I want. Is there any way of setting different modes depending on the user?
I have an Acer (Intel Pentium Windows 10, 64-bit) computer which I bought a few months ago, and created one 'user' (my name - say John) Suddenly this week when I logged in (as John) the only items on the desktop were the default programs installed with the computer; all my files were gone. When opening the browser, or windows media player, all my custom settings were gone and it was as if the programs were being used for the first time. The default program used to open files (e.g. the original program instead of windows media player) had all reverted also. The start button was/is also not working.
I then discovered my files are still there and accessible - to do so I have to right-click on one of the programmes on desktop and 'open file location' then I can use the left column to (through windows explorer) get to C drive then 'Users' then 'John' and I can access everything that way. Also, the keyboard settings have bizarrely changed ie shift + 2 gives the @ sign instead of quotation mark.I have Norton which suggests no virus involved.I didn't have system restore activated. When computer starts it says press DEL to enter setup but nothing happens when I press it.is there anyway to fix this without doing a reset?
I have Windows10 with dual monitors. When I start Windows the taskbar on Monitor 2 is visible and won't move. If I turn Cortana on and off it resumes auto-hiding but I have to do this every time I start Windows 10.
View 2 RepliesI'm trying to access my user folder on a different hard drive, but it takes forever to load and then afterwards does nothing. I think I've already set all the permissions and stuff but it still isn't working.
View 10 RepliesSo my problem is that Pictures and Films folders in My Computer screen share the same path and even the same name, meaning that if I open either one a common folder will be opened.
I have tried to relocate them to different places but when I do it for Films for example Pictures folder also move to the new location. How do I divide them?

Is there anyway to fix the photos app for a specific user account? On my main admin account it works ok. But there was a series of updates to some of the native apps a few days ago, one of those was the photos app. Since then the photos app will not work on my wife and son's user accounts (both standard accounts). Clicking on it brings up nothing. When I went into the store for their own accounts and searched for photos it actually gave an option to install it. I tried that and it went through the motions downloading/acquiring license but it made no difference. Still doesn't launch the app for them.
I don't particulary want to have to go through the process of deleting their accounts and setting them back up (which is time consuming). Creating a new user account does get the user a working photos app (as I did a test). Is there a simple way to do it without potentially breaking the photos app on other accounts (where it is currently working)?
I am aware of powershell fixes but I have read some horrible stories where the code just makes things worse and breaks a lot more especially in the current build of 10586. I'd want any attempted fix to be purely isolated to the affected user's account.
It does seem that the native apps have some pretty bad problems with updating and breaking down. Sometimes I go into the store and look at the check for updates section and see them seemingly stuck in the update process. Sometimes they need a bump to get them going. There seems to be a riskiness to when they are auto updating on my own user account and how it can translate to the other user accounts. In this latest scenario the photos app has been rendered useless for half the users of my computer. Why MS cannot make their own apps easy to uninstall and re-install is beyond me. All other non MS apps are easy to work with and can be uninstalled and reinstalled with comfort. Plus unlike the MS native apps they seem to have no trouble updating themselves!

View 3 RepliesAny way to hide it for good? Not disabling it, because that could cause some trouble, just that doesn't show in the tray? A .reg file would be awesome.
I want this for 2 reasons: First, I don't use it, I use USB Disk Ejector; and second because it's wasting space. And don't worry, everything in there has a purpose, as myself installed everyone of them.
I like the Windows 10 "Spotlight" with its custom photos each day. They really do a great job selecting beautiful photos. However, I've noticed random Store ads popping up, saying things like, "See what's free" or "Explore a marketplace of apps..."
I'd love to disable these ads, while keeping the Spotlight feature of daily photos.
I have already adjusted privacy settings like turning off "Let apps use my advertising ID" and many other Privacy settings. It doesn't seem to affect those lock screen ads. How those can be disabled?
Note I am NOT asking to disable the lock screen (I know already there are ways to do this). I'm asking if there is a way to disable the little text ads that appear on top of the Spotlight images.
How do I stop explorer being default.I cant even view PDF's on adobe.I cant find the tools in the menu.
View 8 Replieswhy some of my folders are missing now from explorer and all windows apps/file manager...BUT I can see them from Command Line and also some of the folders include for instance videos and I can see the videos there...and in the file properties I can see the real folder too...but it can't be accessed anywhere else.I have a V:Home Videos folder. It doesn't show anywhere in Windows EXCEPT when I go to 'Videos' and pick a video file and see in properties: V:Home Videos. And the video plays fine and all; just can't access it from anywhere else! (Except command line).I have checked the folder permissions and all, don't seem to have a problem there. Show hidden files is on and such.
View 4 RepliesI have the 64bit Win 10 upgrade installed and I can't look inside the windows temp folder, is there a way I can do this? This is rather weird as with all the other OS's I have use this has not been a problem. It is one of the few things I find in Win 10 that bug me.
View 6 RepliesUsually, when you right-clock the "file explorer" all the last used folders are showing on-top of it (right circle on image/attachment), I thought ihe bug would just go away but after 1 week it's annoying as ever
