View 1 RepliesSo Im trying to install a new graphics card, and I have to tweak some settings in the bios. Unfortunately, when I try to open it(pressing escape at startup, scrolling down, and selecting uefi settings and pressing enter) nothing happens. I looked this up, and it said to go to advanced startup and go through some steps to get to a menu that supposedly contains "uefi firmware settings". Now, I confirmed that this is the right menu, but the option is just not there. I thought about updating my BIOS, but there are no updates for it available.
View 9 RepliesHow do I set my BIOS to have the DVD boot and install Windows 10 in UEFI mode? I do see a setting on my Asus motherboard UEFI "CSM Compatability" and in there are three options:
UEFI and Legacy OPROM
Legacy OPROM only
UEFI only
Do I select UEFI only option here?
What is the benefit of installing in UEFI vs Legacy? All I understand is that the system sets up more partitions.
How to update devices with 16GB and EUFI bios ?
It says internal memory is not enough, I even tried using external USB or external but still I can't install Windows 10 Fall update on my new Windows 10 Tablet.
Okay, so the other week i received a new Clevo P650SE laptop. The laptop only had a 500GB 7200RPM HDD with Windows 10 to begin with, so yesterday i added my Samsung 840 EVO SSD. As i wanted this to now be the primary drive, i made another new installation of Windows onto here. After doing this, the system now displayed a boot selection at startup with the choice between the new Windows 10 installation on my SSD or the old one on the HDD.
As i no longer wanted to use the HDD for running Windows, i decided it would be best to delete Windows from this drive. So i booted onto an Ubuntu USB and wiped the entire drive of it's data in GParted, which included three different partitions. This seemed perfectly fine to me at the time, because i had a the new installation from the SSD showing up in the boot manager.
However, when i rebooted the machine and attempted to boot into the new installation on the SSD, it gives me this message:
"The boot configuration data from your PC is missing or contains errors.
File: /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/BC Error code: 0xc000000f"
I have tried everything to recover the system but nothing has worked. Startup repair from my Windows USB doesn't do anything, the system reset wouldn't operate because it stated that the partition was locked.
Nothing with the Command Prompt is working, I have done 'bootrec /fixmbr', 'bootrec /fixboot' and 'bootrec /rebuildbcd', but the last command returns the following error:
"The requested system drive cannot be found."
I also did 'bcdboot C:/Windows' but that also refused to work. I assumed the reason for this might be because the drive didn't have a letter, but when i attempted to add a letter is says:
"The specified drive letter is not free to be assigned."
Both drives in my laptop have now been completely wiped and converted to MBR, but even with the two drives empty the original message still appears when booting my Windows USB in UEFI.
I have only had this laptop a couple of weeks and it's already completely messed up. I can boot the Windows USB in Legacy and install Windows as normal, but of course i'm looking to have it back on UEFI as it was before.
If I create a DVD with Windows 10 Home and try to perform a clean install on a computer that came with Windows 8/8.1 Home pre-installed. Will Windows 10 Home recognize and accept my genuine Windows 8/ 8.1 Home Key stored in UEFI or firmware etc?
By Clean install I mean not updating but directly trying to install on a computer, on which Windows 10 have never been installed before.
I want to block access to the tor browser on pc. Tor is able to bypass K9 Parental control's restrictions. I am able to block access to sites that offer to download in the K9's specific sites to block page, but I want to make it unable to be opened without an admin password in windows 10.
Is there anyway to prevent it being installed? I disabled programs being installed in the group policy editor, but this did not prevent the tor installation.
I already googled it and every tutorial is the same. When I go to do it, it doesn't work. I don't have a Microsoft account. I specified a local account user name. This is what I'm selecting as owner. The computer is not transferring access to the user im selecting.
I want to gain access to this folder, because this folder is on my friggin data drive!?!? I have a 1Tb drive partitioned into 3. The OS is installed on one partition, I install all my programs on the second partition, and I save all my crap on the 3rd partition. Well, I found the windows apps folder on my data partition and I want it out of here. I want it to go back to where ever it came from. I think when I was messing around with all the windows settings, under storage I specified that everything is saved to my data drive, even apps. I dont use apps. I dont want this folder on my data drive.
Three machines:
Surface Pro 4 - fully updated
Surface Pro 3 - Windows 10, fully updated
Lenovo X220T - Windows 8.1 Fully updated
All three machines can see all available network devices, including each other. All three machines can successfully access and interact with third party network devices. In this case, it is a NAS and a network printer. The windows 8.1 machine can access each of the other windows 10 machinesNeither Windows 10 machines can access any other windows share on the network.
This gets me error 80070035 with diagnostics telling me nothing
All three machines are on a Homegroup and while each can see, no one can access anything
Trouble shooting tried:
Double checked all sharing settings on all three computers. They are identical.Double checked workgroupsTried it via IP addressesReset winsock on all machinesFlushed DNS on all machinesReset the routerUninstalled and reinstalled Windows sharing and about 3 other network protocols and servicesEnabled NetBiosran this: sc.exe config lanmanworkstation depend= bowser/mrxsmb10/nsi sc.exe config mrxsmb20 start= disabledMessing around with all sorts of netsh commands clearing and flushing all sorts of other things
OK, so I have this one Windows 10 computer.
When trying to access a Windows 8 computer under "Network", it prompts me for a user/pass.
All other computers (Windows 7/8) can see the public folders of each other no problem; even the public folders of this one Windows 10 computer!
Almost everything time I try to access my htpc that has shares I get this error. I just keep clicking the folder and it will finally let me in. The PC is up and running so not sure why this does this almost everything I try to access the share.
My PC is windows 10 pro the HTPC is win7 ultimate.
(On Windows 10) I can't seem to be able to turn on windows firewall... From action center turning it on fails and it sends me to turn it on manually, but when I try and do that, nothing happens. It seems to load for a while, but nothing happens.
Windows Firewall Authorization Driver is where it should be in it's file location, but when I looked in device manager I couldn't find it (showing hidden).
The windows firewall service is on automatic, but won't turn on. (When I try turning it on it exits with permission denied error) base Filtering Service is on automatic and is running.
WMI repository is consistent.
I had a trojan in my temp files earlier, but other than that no viruses.
I ran: Malwarebytes, superAntiSpyware and Spybot
The problem first appeared today (I don't think it was present yesterday). I don't think anything else has changed except, I re-installed Spotify. It was unable to initialize the storage of temporary files. (I have an old version of spotify that has been tricked to not update).
I just ran sfc and it found some problems and apparently couldn't fix them all. This might be because I used a program to delete parts of windows that i don't want. (mainly Microsoft's spying stuff and store apps) I just don't know if the problems it found were actual problems or just "Windows 10 seems to be missing essential botnet services" ...
This install is less than 2 weeks old, so I doubt there is that much corruption or something like that.
I cannot find my taskbar (it's not hidden, no) and the back button doesn't do anything. I've restarted my computer. All the windows I've opened since this happened (last night) cannot be made any smaller, they're all maxed out across my screen and can only be minimized into nothing.
I don't recall doing anything, I just closed my laptop to do something for a bit and when I opened it, it was like this. I also could not use my keyboard at all, until I restarted.
Everything about my network worked fine on Windows 8. With Windows 10 I have been unable to access PC's on my router. Internet work fine, I see the PC's on network in homegroup, But gives me the dreadful and nonsensical error:
Worth noting that my windows 8 laptop can access these computers no problem. but my windows 10 pc's can access ANY pc's
Tried Everything
Winsock method
all elevated cmd prompt exe's
tcp4/6 config
drivers config
network settings configs
I am left with no choice but to go back to windows 8 ?
I have just accepted a free upgrade offer from Windows 7 to 10. I am now offered a login page with a demand for a password which I do not have and which I am not allowed change without a USB flash drive which I don't have. I now have no toolbar with which to access other sites or programmes and am having to write this post on a different laptop.
View 1 RepliesWindows 10 Pro.
Administrator.
When trying to access the WindowsTemp folder, I receive the prompt informing me that, "You don't currently have permission to access this folder."
I click the continue button and receive the error message, "You have been denied permission to access this folder. To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab."
I do just that.
Properties --> Security --> Advanced --> Continue
Creator Owner, Administrators and System all have Full Control. Users has 'special.' So I adjust Users to have Full control.
I receive the error: "An error occurred while applying security information to: C:WindowsTemp. Failure to enumerate objects in the container. Access is denied."
I click continue and get this error, "Unable to save permission changes on Temp. Access is denied."
My friends have problem after she upgrading to windows 10 from windows 8.1. Driver still enable but every time connect using wifi always have limited access and can't connect internet. She is also have try other wifi connection and all have limited access. There is also system batch error before, but now doesn't show again.
View 5 RepliesEverytime my friend starts up her laptop, it tells her that the desktop is unavailable. The windows button is also unavailable and the only way to start programs, is by going to Task manger -> File -> Run new task - > Browse - And then find the right location.
I tried to use a SFC /scannow, but I'm not experienced enough to analyze the results.

So i just finished successfully building my rig, and everything was fine, I got access to my BIOS on my first boot, didn't really fiddle with many of the settings except for the boot priority and the XMP profile. Once I was done I decided to input my windows 10 cd into my optical drive, I pressed the restart button on my case, and now suddenly my mouse and keyboard (both USB) wont work, thus I cant gain access to my bios or start setting up windows. I tried switching the cables to different usb ports (on the mother board and the case ports) and it didn't do anything.
View 1 RepliesDesktop settings seem to have been totally HOSED UP on build 100130 - Works on some machines but this one - the Task bar won't hide so I can't get access to the SAVE / SAVE AS / CANCEL buttons when doing a download.
I don't want to make text smaller -- it's small enough already --often have problems with tiny text in menus etc --for example Photoshop !)!!!.
I was tinkering with the security settings of Local Disk (C: ) so that I get full access to it so as to delete unwanted files. I tried but accidentally now the local disk doesn't have an owner. So I can't access Administrator (cmd). When I try and access those settings to define an owner, it shows 'Access is denied.'. I tried working in safe mode but safe mode won't open. I tried resetting windows 10 both ways (keeping and deleting all files) but it says 'resetting failed.'. I cannot access Local disk (C: ) and cannot opens programs related to it like notepad, task manager, etc.
View 1 RepliesI noticed a folder named" Windows.migrated" and I deleted in error thinking it wasn't necessary anymore. This was after i upgraded from windows 8 to 8.1 to 10. Unfortunately it caused ALL my store apps including the default ones to be deleted. I'm a bit lost of what to do now. I don't have a restore point to access.
View 3 RepliesI am in the process of attempting to install Windows 10 on the system listed in my profile. I have downloaded Windows 10 as an ISO and transferred this to an NTFS formatted memory stick. The installation process works ok but I am having problems getting the SSD setup for UEFI mode and secure boot. what settings I need to apply under CSM to get the SSD running in UEFI mode? And if there are any other settings needed?
View 2 RepliesI just upgraded to Win10. I am using the computer as a HTPC and need the PC to boot up automatically each day so it can runs some scripts. I have been doing this by enabling the computer to automatically boot up within the UEFI . This no longer works after the Win 10 upgrade.
View 3 RepliesI just brought a 128GB sandisk ultra usb 3.0 because as a computer tec im tired of fumbling through my tons of usb drivers to do a job. , i want my windows installers & Linux, bookable tools and such all in one usb. so i looked into multibooting usbs and came across many tools, one being SARDU. But i need a hybird UEFI/MBR boot and my laptop doesn't support uefi & legacy simultaneously only one or the other.
So using SARDU i cant see or boot from the usb unless i switch bios to legacy mode, works well because i see and can boot from all of what i have windows installers and linux distros but i have to keep switching back and forth between legacy and uefi. i was wondering if i can make the usb primarily Uefi bootable BUT also bootable for a old MBR if needed.
I'm upgrading my mom's laptop from windows 7 to windows 10. Since my last upgrade I seem to have misplaced my USB Stick that has the UEFI Windows 10 install media on it. I do, however, have a few DVDs lying around that are large enough to make a Installation DVD. If I use the Microsoft Windows 10 Media Creation tool, will it create a UEFI Installation DVD?
