But when I did that, it totally changed my settings for my local account including desktop, etc. So I deleted the Microsoft account. how to keep my local account settings when signing in with a Microsoft account.

Dec 19, 2015I've reinstalled W10 Pro x64 2 days ago and ergh.. my Microsoft Account picture just doesn't want to get synced, I checked the settings and although I didn't change anything, the pic still doesnt want to sync.
I went to Microsoft Account and edited the pic a bit, cropped it to see if it syncs this time but nope.
Accounts :: Can Have Both MS And Local Account
Jan 27, 2016The last update triggered (13-01-2016) the loss of access to the start menu, many apps, as well the apps store and MS Edge. The exact same thing happened with the first version of Win 10 Pro received as an upgrade from WIN 7.
This time, as soon as build 1511 was received, I immediately created a ISO USB stick and then proceeded to use the machine as normal. At some stage, I created a Local Account with Administrator rights as I am the only user of the PC.
After the January upgrade, I can no longer switch back to the MS Account as the screen where one is supposed to be able to do this under [settings/accounts/Your email and accounts] does not load anymore, thus removing the option to switch back to a MS account. The screen is just blank.
I ended up activating the in-built Administrator account so that I could try and see what was going on.
I now notice under C:users the following user folders:
(1) Administrator
(2) Default
(3) Default.migrated
(4) DefaultAppPool
(5) My Name ---- I presume this is the user profile for my MS account?
(6) My Name (Local ----- This is the created local Account
yet the "name of the account" when I log in has been truncated to My name L
Is this why the settings page for accounts cannot find the profile information which will allow me to switch back to my MS account?
I feel I have to unravel this mess before going any further in trying to establish why the start menu and all the apps have now "dissapeared"
Of course I can just redo the clean install but I feel I should first sort out the user profiles before going any further.
Accounts :: Account Picture Does Not Show On Welcome Screen
Dec 21, 2015I can't figure why I get the generic gray circle with the person on it on my welcome screen when my computer starts up. My account shows my picture as a gold fish. My computer was set to auto login before I made the switch from windows 8.1 and upgraded to 10 and has been logging in with out my entering password since then just like the way I want it.

Jan 1, 2016My computer crashed and when it rebooted, it required me to login with my Microsoft account. Now, this computer has had a local account since I got it 5 or 6 years ago. I have never used the Microsoft account on this computer.
Trying to switch back to the local user using guides on this site, that local account apparently doesn't exist anymore.
I'm obviously concerned that it deleted an account on its own. How do I get the account back? Creating a new one is easy enough, but are there any permission issues? I have enough of those between Windows 10, and the previous 7 installation.

Feb 10, 2016I have linked my Windows 10 app store to a BT provided email address. After rebooting it has asked me to login. It has changed my local account from my name to my BT email address and asking for a password. This is not my normal password and has seemed to link my BT account within the Microsoft environment and assigned it a password. I now cannot log in to my PC? I have spoken to Microsoft about 15 times and just keep getting passed around. I have tried resetting the password via Microsoft but it fails every time. Any way i can switch to log in locally via my old password?

Feb 10, 2016For one reason or another I managed to delete administrator privileges for my one local account. After several hours messing about I have managed to activate the hidden Administrator - but I am finding that this Administrator is not working.
1. It cannot see my main local user account. It does not list it at all in User Accounts, so I cannot change any settings etc. Similarly, when I open User Accounts with my main account, it cannot see the Administrator, or the new account I created (see below)
2. When I access User Accounts using "netplwiz" it sees my main account but will not highlight it (or any other account). It is stuck on Administrator.
3. It will not create a new account. When I use it to access Accounts and try to add a new user the cursor spins and nothing happens.
4. I added a new user (with administrator privileges) using the command prompt - this was successful, but it bumped my main account off the login page, and it doesn't acknowledge it on the dropdown list with the start menu. (Yet when I restarted it took me straight in to my main account.)

Jan 20, 2016Recently upgraded my Toshiba Satellite NB 10A-laptop from Windows 8.1 to Win 10 and have been logging in via my Hotmail account. Went to settings to set up Local Account, completed the password settings. Then had the choice to Sign Off or Cancel. Chose Sign Off (thinking Cancel would void my new Local Account) and now, for many hours, my laptop is locked into an endless loop of Signing Off.

Apr 14, 2016My local admin account was converted into a Microsoft account , is there a way of reverse it ? Less than one month ago Windows 10 Pro was installed. Let me explain you that there was already a windows 8 installation with kernel corrupted , version 10 recovered all exactly as it was , all programs installed and my configurations.
Previously I had a administrator local account that remained the same after windows 10 installation. It happens that days after I logged in with my Hotmail account to the Microsoft Store to download a couple of items and unbeknownst to me my local admin account was transformed into a Microsoft account.
Now I no longer wish to be logged all the time with this Microsoft account, I even have another admin local account if I want to change but I would have a lot of work to make it look like as it was my original converted account.
In order to avoid such work I ask whether there is a way to convert (let's call this way) the Microsoft account back into my local account or is there a way of copying all the configurations to a new admin local account ?
Accounts :: Bypass Family Settings By Conversion To Local Account?
Feb 1, 2016I just upgraded all my computers to Windows 10.
My 15 year old is clever enough to bypass the (new) Family settings controlled Microsoft Account I just set up for him by converting the account to a local account. This seems to let him play as long as he wants, without time restrictions. I didn't get an email about this, or any other notification. This is the second time he has done it.
Why is it so easy to completely bypass all the family safety settings it took me hours(!) to finally get set up?
Also the Family Recent Activity shown on my Microsoft Account web site doesn't seem to update itself. It is at least two or three days behind, perhaps more. How often does Recent Activity update? Is it supposed to be near instantaneous?
Can't Change Profile Picture / Setting The Account Picture Failed

Jul 30, 2015Having difficulty adding a picture / wallpaper to the lock screen. I have just set up windows 10 screen saver and I see you can change the lock screen back ground picture.
I have tried adding either one of the windows wallpapers or one of my own pictures but I can't find any option to save the image. on closing the window & returning to the lock screen the picture does not appear to save and returns to the standard blue background with date and time.
I can't find any option to save the image as a lock screen wallpaper.
Accounts :: Accessing As Multi Accounts All Having Picture Password
Aug 21, 2015I don't know if it's my installation, but I can't really switch to select a differet login user once I turn on my PC, and it brings to the last logged on user and his Picture password screen.
Both users have a Picture password and I don't have any chance to pick the other one, unless:
- I select a different type of access
- ask for password
- then the damn multi-user LH box appears
- and I can pick another one.
Then do the opposite until I get back to his Picture password screen. Odd and unbelieavable, considering how well streamlined in Win8.1...
The old way I found for Windows 8.x (HERE) is not working anymore, as I went in the Registry of mine upgraded Win10 and found it was already correctly modified (=1), but the login screen is a mess, nonetheless.
I'm ok with Task scheduling batches, reg modification, whatever. But it's Win10 Home, so no gpedit involved..

Networking :: How To Set Shares Using MS Account - Works Fine When LOCAL Account
Jul 2, 2015Using a LOCAL account I have no problem with Shares -- how do I set these now using an Ms account.
Samba just times out trying to access Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account. Also I can't access other Windows machines from the Ms account. The other Windows machines can't access the Windows machine where I'm logged on with an Ms account.
All these problems DISAPPEAR when using a LOCAL account.
I think my future strategy will be just keep a MINIMAL Windows VM with an Ms account to GET the insider builds and then revert back to Local accounts.
Merging Local Account With Child Microsoft Account?
Oct 27, 2015Now that there are no parental controls on local user accounts, I set up a Microsoft account for each of my children so that I can limit screen time and accessibility to websites. I am now trying to merge their old local accounts to the new Microsoft accounts. I can log in to their local accounts and I can log in to their new Microsoft accounts, however, I cannot sign in to the Microsoft account from their local account (I'm only assuming this is how to do it). I go to settings, accounts, Sign in with Microsoft Account instead, enter email and password, enter old password, click Next and get the message "Oops, something went wrong Whatever happened, it was probably our fault. Please try again."
My goal is to save everything they have on their local accounts (Minecraft files especially) and get it over to the Microsoft account so that I take advantage of the parental controls. So, deleting profiles is not an option, but if there is a way to get everything moved over, then I can delete the local account, but how to move everything over.

Now wish to add normal users (myself and individual family members). Seems like I can add a family member and "other user". When doing so, they ask for an email so I put one in. But then when I try to log in, they ask for a Microsoft account.How do I add users without them having a Microsoft account?

Sep 12, 2015I have added a gmail account to the Mail app but cannot add a Plusnet POP3 account in Settings/Accounts/Add account. In 'other accounts' I enter the email address and password and get the message : 'We couldn't find info for that account. Make sure that the email address is correct then try again'.
In Windows 7 I use Windows Live Mail which works perfectly well with both accounts. Can I export my accounts and contact info from Win Live Mail to the Win10 app? Live Mail works normally within Win10 but I would prefer to use Mail since it appears to have a more rapid response time.

Jan 6, 2016I have two outlook/Hotmail accounts. One I log into the PC with (which is pretty crappy by the way and is a huge hassle in Windows 10 IMO).
In the mail app, I was able to add the mailbox of the one I use, however I have a second email account through Hotmail that when I try to add the account to the mail app, it asks me to verify with a pin. I have never used a PIN with this account.
I went to settings and sign in option, and have an option to change the pin, however it is wanting to change the main account that I log into the pc. The pin appears to be 4 digits (it only allows 4 characters before it auto enters) unlike the main pin which is 8 or 9 numbers.
No Sufficient Permissions When Saving A Document Or Adding Email Account
Aug 29, 2015When trying to add an email account to Outlook 2013 on my daughters Surface Pro 3 running Win10 I get the following error message AFTER the test message is successfully sent.
"The specified device, file, or path cannot be accessed. It may have been deleted, it may be in use, you may be experiencing network problems,. or you may not have sufficient permissions to access it. Close any applications using this file and try again."
Also when saving a Word 2013 document to a local user document folder I get this error message:
"C:UsersahughdocumentsTest document.docx You don't have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. Would you like to save in the Documents folder instead?"
There is only one user account on the computer and it is an administrator account.
