Add Previous Versions 3D Effects?
Jan 4, 2016
I've just upgraded from win7 to win10. I really hate the completely flat look of the windows, not only does it seem like a major step back 30 years in time, it's difficult to see where the borders of the windows end and other things on the screen begin. is there something i can do to put back the 3-d effects [rounded edges and corners, shadowing, etc.] that was part of windows versions up through windows 7 ? I've already installed a 3rd-party app called 'classic shell' -- that's a real life saver! -- but while it fixes some things, it doesn't seem to address this particular issue.

I have two physical disks in my notebook, one simple partition each, BitLocker encrypted. Drive C:, which is my system drive and drive D:, for some media stuff.Windows Version is Windows 10.0.10586 x64.I have configured VSS to use the "Previous Versions" feature in case I accidentally delete or overwrite a file. I did this on my Win7 install to and it saved my butt at least three times.
VSS is running (Volume Shadow Copy Service set to "Manual"), snapshots are there but when I right-click on a modified file (or on the root of the disk) and click "Previous Versions", my D: drive correctly displays the existing snapshots, on my system drive C: there is always a "There are no previous versions available" message. But, when I click the "System Restore..." button, I get a list with my snapshots, so I guess I could restore my system.
configuration seems to be ok and the two manual snapshots are there on both drives. For the moment there is no system restore point, but it does not work with snaps created by them either.

Is it possible to make a .reg file to optimize my visual effects for best performance for all users that sign into one PC?
I want to do this because we have many people who sign into the PC via our Active Directory through the network. If I can get a .reg file that just applies this to all users that would be awesome!

Sometimes when i install games i get an error saying that a d3dx9_43.dll or something like that is missing and i know that it's got something to do with DirectX. I don't know what the Latest version of DirectX is for Windows 10 but mine is version10 and through Google i discovered that there is already a version12 and i don't know how to update/install it.
I tried downloading DirectX end-user runtime web installer Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center to update all versions (from 1 to latest) but i keep getting an error saying that "A cabinet file necessary for installation cannot be trusted. Please verify the Cryptographic Services are enabled and the cabinet file is valid. " everytime i run the installer. Is there a way to fix this? How can i update to all (complete) DirectX versions?

I have decided to migrate to Win10 while maintaining my Win7 system until I'm sure (on the same box). Win 10 is installed on a new SSD, Win7 on an old SSD, with all my files held on a 1TB drive so I planned to just save any files I needed, like brower shortcuts on the storage drive.
In Win 10 I have had no issues viewing the files on this drive until today. I have a simple text file for storing information about the migration, and I can open it, but only see an old version of the file. It is fine in Win7. New files and folders I create in Win7 are not visible in Win10 at all now. What am I missing given all the old files created in Win7 are working fine?
E.G. If I boot into Windows 7 and create a folder on the root of the storage drive, called test, then boot into Windows 10 from my other SSD not only can't I see the test folder, I can create a folder named test. I've not booted into Win7 yet to see if I can see that from there.

Suddenly today I started my PC and got bootmgr missing error. Tried scan disk and bootrec commands to fix to no avail. Used a repair disc and ran startup repair but nothing works. I went to option to reset the PC and it is showing two versions of windows. One says"Windows 10" and the other "Windows 10 Home". Don't understand what happened here. This is a week after the latest build update and my PC was running fine up to this point.

Mercifully I still have access to media player and photo viewer from win 7 , I really don't like the new win10 versions.
Is this because I installed over the top of win 7 or are they available if u do a clean install of win 10?

Is there is a way to see original photos even if the edited versions have been deleted?
For example, on Windows 7, in Windows Photo Viewer, there was an option under settings I think which said 'show original photos'. When you clicked on this option it showed all your original photos before they had been edited, even if the edited versions had been deleted from the recycle bin.
Is there an equivalent on Windows 10? What I'm looking for is not to see the original photo of a photo which I have edited which has not been deleted, but to see the original photo of a photo that I have deleted from my recycle bin.

I have several PCs at home as well as music streaming devices such as Pure Sensia and Freecom MusicPal. The PCs run a mix of Windows 7 HP and Ultimate all 64bit. I use Serviio to share music to the streaming devices and PCs. The PCs all use password protected network shares, and I selectively share certain folders from different PCs to enable both simple file sharing and backup which are simple script driven processes.
All has been working reliably for years until (Dum-Dum-Dum!) Windows 10...
A new laptop arrives with Windows 10 preinstalled.
I've got it up and running but cannot work out how to add Microsoft cloud accounts, such as those directly linked to OneDrive, onto the windows 7 PCs to enable password protected sharing to and from this new laptop.
The accounts have the same usernames on each flavour of windows PC, but the windows 10 version also has an email.

Since switching to Windows 10, Alt + Tab does not toggle to previous screen in a number of case, i.e. you have to hit Alt + Tab twice to go to the previous screen or go through the thumbnail screens. It sounds small but being able to toggle to the previous screen by hitting Alt + Tab saves me lots of time. return to the previous functionality of earlier Windows systems.

When I installed windows 10, something went wrong and I could no longer could connect to the internet because some protocols were missing. Also, within five minutes of starting using my computer, the start menu stopped working. I have tried all the fixes I could find for the start menu including sfc /scannow and multiple powershell fixes. None of them worked. When I use the windows 8.1 install disk it, I get a message saying that something happened, setup has failed to determine supported install choices. Windows 10 is difficult to navigate and always seems to be missing some software.

I was installing W10 and got that black screen with the big white circle. Then, once it restarted. When it booted again, suddenly a screen came up saying "Attempting to Recover Installation" then saying "Restoring your previous version of Windows....". Why does this happen? Is there any way I can change where it boots into?

I just upgraded my laptop from windows 8 to win 10. The free upgrade of course did not delete my files from window 8 so I went ahead and installed windows 10 on to my USB and booted from it for a clean install. While installing win 10 however I managed to do it on my C drive. I believe my previous OS was on D drive as when I go into my system properties now, C drive = 373 GB free from 393 GB which has the windows icon over it to show that OS is inside it and the 'D' drive has only 43 GB free from 393 GB capacity.
I would like to free up my D drive and delete all previous files and maybe also remove partition and only have one storage which is C drive. How to do it? Do I just go into my D drive and delete all the files inside it? such program files x86 etc? while running window 8 I managed to get a lot of spyware, adware etc on my system and hence why I preferred a clean install of windows 10.

I had user names set up for myself, my daughter and my husband but all have disappeared except the Microsoft account I used when setting up Microsoft 10. I can't find any of the pictures or documents from those files either.
I have already gone to the control panel and checked users and they are not there. All of my photos were under my daughters user name.

My custom built computer started to randomly shutdown or restart, and after exhausting all software/driver checks to windows updates and other software related discrepancies, I resorted to "resetting" my OS, which did not fix my problem anyway. The issue, it seems, turns out to be an old computer I recently bought and had it in close proximity to my computer, and the old computer was causing some sort of an interference. That's my only explanation anyway since the issue stopped after I unplugged and moved the old computer away from my custom built PC.
At any rate, since it appears that my issue had nothing to do with software/driver/windows updates, I would like to know if there is any way I could revert the windows "reset." I attempted to use the option to restore to and old version, but that did not work (I assume this option has to do with System Restore to a created Restore Point?). I also do not see the "Go Back To An Earlier Build" option from Recovery, and I am guessing this is because I did not "upgrade" from a different version of window?
So really, my question is, is there a way to revert a windows 10 reset to it's previous state. I am hoping there is so I don't have to go through the trouble of setting my PC back again if I do not really have to. The answer to my question is probably no, but I wanted to check anyway.

Is there a way to 'fix' windows sizes?
If I resize a window, next time I restart that application I am often finding the window does not retain the previous window sizing. In particular, Edge always opens maximised. A little irritating to have to resize every time - I don't want most applications maximised on my 28" 2560x1440 WQHD monitor.
Is there a solution or setting somewhere that I'm unaware of?

After my Windows 10 upgrade was finished I created a "Recovery drive" on a 32 GB flash drive and it filled the drive to 26.8 GB. I just finished a clean install on my hard disk with all unallocated space and decided to make a new "recovery drive" on the old flash drive when I was finished. I did "check" to include system files and the process took quite a while but only 3.5 GB are now being used on the flash drive. Why such a difference in data this time than before? Is this drive okay?

A few days ago my Pc started to act slow and slugging so i restarted it a couple of times and on the 3rd reboot it started a disc check. Once it finished it worked flawlessly BUT it had reverted to a previously unknown restore point. Ok i thought and reinstalled some programs that were missing and went to bed. Next day i booted it up and all the programs were missing again.....The same unknown restore point was back! Curious now, i installed a program, rebooted the pc, and once again, same restore point! Just what is happening?

I recently messed up a previous Win10 installation and had to use gparted (kept saying the drive was locked when I tried to use Recovery CD) to delete partition and start from scratch. Everything installed fine like before but now when I start up or restart laptop I get the option to boot either Windows 10(previous install) or Windows 10 on volume 2(new working install).
How do I get rid of that previous install option so i can go straight to boot up?

Due to a reinstall my laptop had a dual boot system with windows 10 twice installed. Now I was finished with the migration and I used EaseUs Partition Master to remove the old partition and add the space to the new partition. But now my windows doesn't boot anymore. It gets to the windows logo and the waiting icon under it, but it doesn't go to the user logon screen.
The old situation before the resize was:
Win 10 (old) 30 gb
Win 10 (new) 220 gb
