Adding Hibernate To Power Button At Start Menu
Sep 6, 2015
I followed the guide to enable Hibernate mode, but is there a way to show it in the Power options?
All I can see now is "Sleep", "Shut down" and "Restart". Was I supposed to see "Hibernate" after following this guide:
Hibernate - Enable or Disable in Windows 10 ?
Or maybe in order to see I need to restart my computer? Or this guide only enables hibernate but doesn't add this to the "Power" button itself?

I have set my Surface Pro 4 to hibernate when ever I press the power button and it has done so admirably since I purchased it. Now, for some reason, it will only shut down. I have double checked my advanced power settings and it says it is set to hibernate on both battery and when plugged in yet it still gives me the "Slide to shut down your PC" option when I push the button. The only changes I have made recently are to install Intel's Beta 520 drivers and to install the new cumulative update for 1511 that MS released yesterday.

Is it normal for the Start Menu pane to appear as soon as the computer boots up or comes out of hibernate? This happens on mine every time and I see nothing in Settings to change it. As soon as Windows opens, I have to click to close the Start Menu pane. It would be nice to not have that happen. Is there a way to change this, or is it a normal thing now?

I created the file google.bat with the following content: start "" "[URL] ...."
What I want to do is add this file to the start menu.
The objective is to be able to execute it with Cortana by saying "hey Cortana, open google".
If I add the file into C:Users**User**AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsStart MenuProgramsSystem Tools
it doesn't show on the start menu.
At one point I added a folder (and it did show on the start menu) into c:program dataMicrosoftwindowsstart menuprograms
but when I restarted the computer it disappeared.

I am currently trying to increase the amount of columns displayed to 2. I have a tiny 7 inch screen with DPI set at 150% which makes the start menu only show one column. How to increase this to two?

Just installed my Win 10 from Microsoft. All went well on the Venue 8 pro. Win 10 worked well with the Dell VN8P but if you put it to sleep by pressing the power button or it enters sleep itself after the time you set, it WILL NOT start back up when you press the power button. LED back light on but screen remains black.
You need to hold down the power button > 10 sec to shut down completely. The you can reboot and all works fine.
This was unacceptable for my use so for now I back out of Win 10 to Win 8.1 which works fine. Tried all kinds of Windows power settings and options. Nothing works.

I have just upgraded to Win10 and most items on the "Power User Command Menu" do not work if the menu is accessed by right-clicking the Start Menu button on the Task Bar. The only items that do work are Search, Run, Shut down and Desktop. If the menu is accessed by the other means, the menu items work fine.
I've tried SFC and a day searching the web with no luck.
The computer is a Toshiba laptop running an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T5500 with 4 Gb of memory. I don't know what the proper name for the "Power User Command Menu" may be, but that's the only way I've seen it referenced elsewhere.

I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. When I power down the system from the menu, my computer does not completely turn off. The procedure I use is described below:
Click Windows_Start_button > Power > Shutdown
The system closes applications and appears to initiate a shutdown procedure. Everything appears to be shut off, but my mouse is still lit up. I do notice that the fan stops and everything else appears to be completely shut down. When I was running Windows 7 before my upgrade, my system completely powered down.
I have a dual boot system with Linux, and when I power down from Linux, the shutdown is complete, so I don't think I accidentally did anything to the hardware or BIOS.

This problem is on a desktop computer (HP Pavilion). When I click the start button, the start menu does not display. Pressing the Windows key on the keyboard also does not take me to the start menu.
I can access the right-click menu on the start button and most of the items on the right-click menu respond correctly when clicked (a few don't. No response from "Search" and "Desktop"). I installed Windows 10 over a month ago and have had no problems until now. Everything was working fine yesterday and to the best of my knowledge I have changed no settings since then.

I was having no problems with Windows 10 until the last few days when Windows 10 automatically updated. It seems I have lost the function of right-clicking on the Start Menu button also since this latest upgrade Windows 10 will not recognize my Saietek joystick...I'm not sure if these 2 issues are linked but they both started happening in the last 2 days.

It's a simple question, with probably a more complicated answer: How do I remove these two buttons, as I think they are ugly as OS X (ok, maybe not that ugly)?

So my mail app was not opening links. So I looked up how to reinstall the mail app. Got to this: [URL]
I uninstalled the apps, then ran the powershell command: Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”} to reinstall the mail app.
A bunch of red errors appeared in the prompt and now my start menu, notifications, onedrive,... won't work.
How do I restore these functions? sfc also does not work in Powershell but does work in CMD. Also, it does nothing.

Every time I try to put put my laptop to sleep, hibernate, restart it or shutdown, it stalls for about 10 minutes before giving me a Driver Power State Failure.
Having installed "WhoCrashed" and "Windbg", I was able to determine it was related to "ntkrnlmp.exe", "ndis.sys", "raspppoe.sys" and a vpn driver at one point or another. I "believe" I managed to uninstall the offending vpn driver but of course still overall have the same issue.
This appeared to occur while trying to do a windows update last week but I can't be sure. I presume, there is a out of date or corrupt driver but just can't seem to determine which one.

Had a buddy pick up a laptop (W10 home) (lavono) setting up his web connection WIFI, when I was messing around with things I did a rfi9ght mouse click on the start menu where the other items are, and found it was "white" background with black lettering??
I was wondering how to set this? I have the black background with white lettering (W10 Pro) is this the way it is for the different versions home vs pro, or is there a setting to change this? I'd rather have the background white with black lettering.
Yes I know about the personal settings and the colors thing, and the items to check, but nothing seems to change that one area as far as I can see. There's no white color to choose on my list of colors anyway.

I got Windows 10 home a few months now. No problems whatsoever with the installation or setup/usage and it'd fast and bug free. My problem happened just last week...
I used to press the WIN key & S to search for files. Or i can press the START button and just start typing. It will search for my files & search the internet (cortana search). Now nothing happens when i search.
When i press WIN+S, and type something, it just sit's there doing nothing, but it seems like Cortana is thinking or about to give out information, but nothing happens at all. Same as on the start menu. I type out something and no information is given, it wont search for any of my files or nothing.
I am at a lost. In the past, it worked perfectly, like Windows 8.1. Press START, & type.

I've recently made a huge research about Roaming profiles in windows 10 and how to set up the start menu layout and all of that i've tried to test it before i upgrade all the computers in the campus i made some good and bad results, the good results was i was able to export the start layout and implement it in the GPO works really fine and i was able to create the v5 roaming profile with same shortcuts and bookmarks and default settings and home page and disabling cortana by GPO and disabling the online search feature within the settings of the roaming profile,
now for the bad results were that the sign in could take from 25 till 40 seconds so the log off, and the major issue is that when you logon with the roaming profile the start menu and search are not available, it means that when you click on start menu the whole start menu doesnt pop up just nothing happens same as the search function. I am running windows 10 enterprise .
I forgot to mention that even the EDGE icon from taskbar disappears so i think its not either moving files or folders arent being synchronized im not really sure. IE remains...

Two weeks after the installation of Windows 10, the left button stopped working on one of the two accounts on my laptop. I can't get my start button, Start menu, icons on my desktop. Have tried sfc/scanow, DISM.exe/online/cleanup-image/scanhealth & many of the remediesfrom the net with no luck. Surprisingly the second profile on the computer is working fine. I am at a point of returning to windows 8.1

My system: Win 10 64 bit Retail, MSI B150M Mortar, Intel i5-6500, Samsung 512GB SSD, Corsair 2 x 4 GB Memory, etc.
Although my keyboard and mouse are allowed to wake the PC from sleep (in Device Manager), they don't wake the PC. Interestingly, pressing the "Power Button" on my Fractal R5 case does wake it up from sleep.
