Following instructions from a game manufacturer I changed the 'read only' settings for users / documents folder. Win 10 now disfunctions (instable, search unavailable, chrome closing incorrectly, etc). How should I proceed to restore the folder settings without restoring windows completely?
View 1 RepliesI cant make a folder to full access. It remains as READ only always, when I try to unmark the square mark. Its like there in all of my files and folders. Do anything special to do to make them full access other than unmarking read only ?
View 9 RepliesOn Windows 7, everything was fine. Since I upgraded to Windows 10, I have a problem with c:usersftrdocuments (ftr is the user account name)
It is locked to read-only, and when I change it, it immediately changes back, despite me giving administrator privelege. This is messing with so many programs that expect to be able to write here, and the biggest is Adobe Premiere. It can no longer write to the folders it needs to in here and when it offers to switch scratch disks to My Documents, the program craps out - probably because it's running into the same error.
I thought at first this may have been because I changed to an Outlook account, so I switched the machine back to Local - but I still cannot take control of the folder.
I am a hardcore Wow player, recently i encountered a problem that wont let me play wow due to my folders not able to being write wow files on my windows 7.
The was a message when ever i tried to run wow and that was "[COLOR=#EFC9A0][FONT=Arial]The CAS system was unable to initialize: Client Handler: initialization error: failed to create storage component"
At first i thought it was wow's problem and looked on battle.net forums but they all said that i must remove read only tag from properties of my wow folder.
I did everything i could on wow's side but nothing, then i tried looking on various windows's error forums and did the take ownership cerficate guide, the attrib -r [path] guide, changing security parameters from properties --> security ---> edit etc.
But nothing worked, as soon as i unchecked the solid square read only option and closed it , it came back like before. So I thought maybe windows 7 wont let me play the game, i bought windows 10 and installed it clean and removed windows 7 completely. and with no surprise the same problem persists. cant remove read only.
Then I read about NTFS being the problem, i have 2 sata harddisks and i formatted one and converted it to FAT system and copied wow folder to that drive. still it wont do anything same problem is there.
Is s chance to copy folder stored on read only NTFS volume for which I don't have permission to access?
Permission is for use of old os which doesn't already exist.
If I was able to copy whole folder from R/O media, I could easily change the permissions but I can't do that on R/O media and any attempt to copy the folder gives error msg Access was denied.
I play video games and all my games are saved in my documents as many other steam users but the games cannot load any save data from countless games like skyrim, Arma 3 etc. As soon as I remove the read only attribute from the document folder and apply the settings it does the whole apply to all the sub folders and files crap but as soon as its done I click okay and right after i check the properties again and voila there it is read only is checked and i cannot do jack about it.

View 7 RepliesJust upgrading to Win 10 and noticed this morning that I am unable to change the settings from Read Only to allow all saved work. I have tried changing the Preferences, but as soon as I do, Apply, Ok and the settings refer back to Read Only. I haven't noticed this on any documents,only on Pictures. I have tried changing the directory and Pictures, but no luck.

How can I accompiish that? I went to properties for the documents folder and the system appeared to be doing what I wanted, but was not successful.

View 9 RepliesHere is my problem: I keep my folders in different settings, some with large icons, some with details view.
Today they are all reset to details view, and items are listed by name. Every folder is reset to the same settings. When I try to change they always defaults to details view. Even when I go to another folder and press back, the settings are already reset.
Also, icons on desktop are keep returning to default state (big icons), I keep them smaller, when I hold ctrl and scroll mouse wheel they become smaller, but next time I reset windows they return to default (big icons) view. I already cleaned shellbag in regedit, reset windows but it is still the same.
I saw this other theme with similar problem, but I am not using Eset, I use Kaspersky.

Trying to add a new DNS IP address. Go to the adapter, go to the IPV4 properties and advanced and add the new DNS IP address. Every thing is fine until I close the adaptor window and it pops up an error "an unexpected condition occurred, not all of your requested changes in settings could be made"... Even if I make no changes at all and just open and close it I get this. Need to set the new DNS as first on the list.

as you can see, I change the windows default folder for downloads to drive F:. How can I make it to show the drive name instead of drive letter? I used the same steps I do in windows 7 and it was working, but in windows 10, it change the download folder to drive letter.
The folders in All Apps seem to be named for the software company, not by the program name (for example, its Digiarty, not WinX DVD Copy). Is there a way to change this name?
View 2 RepliesI recently upgraded my Hard Drive with an Samsung SSD Drive evo 850 for my operating system and programs. I placed the secondary drive to host my file folders. Somehow in the mist of trying to automatically port my default Document, Downloads, Pictures,Videos and Music Folder to the secondary drive, my Music folder name changed to (Document) as you can see on the image with the arrow pointed to it.. Now i tried to right click it and in the General tab it shows the name Document greyed with the music symbol out, so i can't change it.

I just finished a fresh install after going through several BSOD (which have now been corrected). I'm trying to change the settings and I can't changed date/time nor can I access the settings( Start>Settings). When I try and change the settings or date/time I get "This app can't open. Your trial period for this app has expired. Visit the Windows Store. Visit the Windows Store to purchase the full app." When I try to open Windows Store, same thing happens. Date/time is now an app?
View 2 RepliesI have just received updates for Windows 10, nd now when I boot up, I get a message, a copy of which I have attached to this post. This is after I sign in.
It matters not how many times I reboot, this message pops up each time.
When I double click to open a folder I get an extra pane on the right side that is useless to me and takes up real-estate.
How to I change the view options to eliminate that extra pane.
Attached are 2 images - one showing the extra pane, and the other showing how I'd like my folder views displayed.

On W8 with start 8
On W10 i found start 10 but we can't change that

I have found ways for windows 7 and 8.1 but they are not supported on windows 10, nor do they work. I am Kind of a neat freak on my computer and am planning on using this to organize.

View 4 RepliesI just found the game recorder built in to Windows 10 and was trying to use it but am having trouble changing where the games are saved. When I go to the folder I want the recordings saved in there is no OK button or any way to say this is where I want them saved. If I exit out on the folder it just goes back to the original destination.
