View 1 RepliesI just installed the BIG Windows 10 update (can't remember what it was called, 1511 or something) and so far it seems all right, except my desktop is a little different. One, my desktop background picture was removed and needs to be reset, no big deal, but all my Microsoft Word files open in Wordpad now (yes, I have a current license, just bought 2016 a few weeks ago--Excel comes up normal...) and the thumbnails have these mysterious blue arrows that point at each other in the corners. I think they might have something to do with file compression? But the arrows are also on some of my program icons in the taskbar, too.
View 9 RepliesWhen I click on the store it opens for a split second and then closes. I tried the wsreset.exe but i get this error ....
I also tried some other powershell commands that were suggested by others on some sites but i get the error that 'AppxManifest.xml' file was not found.
I did the install yesterday - no problem. When I tried to open Word and Excel today, they were empty. All of my files were gone! Can I get them back?
View 1 RepliesI can't seem to catch a break since buying a new computer with Windows 10 and UltraHD. I've noticed that every time I open an Excel file, it not only opens that file, but it also opens a blank workbook as well. This has never happened to me on any previous computer or previous version of Excel and googling the issue has been futile thus far.
To be clear, I'm totally fine with Excel opening a blank workbook if I just click on the Excel shortcut on my taskbar, but I do NOT want Excel to open up a blank workbook when let's say I'm opening up a separate spreadsheet for a financial model.
I have a problem where all my Office 2013 documents (word and Excel) disappeared after migrating to Windows 10. Microsoft support just say that they have gone without a trace. Not much support there. Fortunately I have a 99% backup but I now do not trust Windows 10 not to lose more. I think there is a bug in the migration but cannot get the message to Microsoft
View 2 RepliesI recently upgraded from windows 8.1 to windows 10. I can no longer print word or excel files since the upgrade yet the printer works fine, other files such as from Acrobat Reader print fine. When I print something flickers on the screen but too fast to read, and the job does not show up in my print q. The troubleshooter shows everything is working fine. I have tried printing new files and old archived files and nothing prints in Excel, yet the program otherwise works fine. What can I try to resolve this?
View 1 RepliesAt the far bottom left corner of the desktop resides the Windows 10 logo. It is suppose to open to a menu of 3rd party apps and Windows functions.
When I click the icon with a mouse, the menu screen opens for a split second and the immediately closes. This does not allow me enough time to open any 3rd party program on the menu or to employ any of the listed Windows 10 apps.
This also means that I do not have time to click on restart or power down and must do a hard shut down pressing the power button on the computer case.
I installed windows 10 but lost all my excel & word folders...
View 1 RepliesAfter upgrading to Windows 10, I can't open Word and Excel attachments in Outlook now. Why? How to fix this?
View 1 RepliesSo jump lists via my taskbar and windows 10, I'm not having much joy. I've just got a new desktop (Jan 2016) with windows 10 pre-loaded and I installed office 2010 - jump lists didn't work - so I thought I'll uninstall and install office 2016 64bit - jump lists still don't work....
But they work for IE and notepad and file explorer but not for firefox or photoshop elements. I've tried deleting the files from:
%APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations
%APPDATA%MicrosoftWindowsRecentCustomDestinations
And rebooting but to no avail. I really need jump lists working for Excel & Word.
Since receiving a windows 10 update I have been unable to download excel and word documents sent in emails. Also all PDF files have been changed to Microsoft Edge ??

View 9 RepliesI am running a fully updated Windows 10 Pro Eng. Build 10586.
I go to the start menu, click on settings and when I click on the Update & Security button the window just vanishes !
I have restarted and tried several times to no avail.
I have upgraded to Windows 10 Pro (final non-insider version) with a clean install (formatted hard drive). The Mail app worked for a while but about a 3 days ago it stopped working. Whenever I open it it closes (I assume crashes) after about 5 seconds. In the meantime it is trying to sync my e-mail and I can open a menu like settings but cannot click anything else. I can't reinstall the app since the option to uninstall is not available on this built-in app. However a friend of mine ran into the same issue and he uninstalled with a powershell script. He says it didn't work. I have 3 accounts registed in the app 1 is outlook, 1 is gmail, 1 is yahoo.
View 1 RepliesI just recently downloaded Windows Ten today 7/29/2015 and I wanted to personalize my computer. I opened the start window and clicked settings. The window flashed up but then disappeared. It isn't showing up in my taskbar or in task manager. I tried accessing it from the tile itself and the little button on the side of the window. I also asked Cortana. All of the results were the same?

View 6 RepliesAfter Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3118754) I was unable to use Control panel since after few seconds of opening control panel closes automatically and returns you to desktop view causing you not being able to use any of control panel features.
I have a Dell Inspiron 15 N5050 upgraded to windows 10 from windows 7 home 64 bits.
The Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3120677) that came few days later did not solve this problem.
After some days of investigation I have found that for some reason Windows 10 1511 update had eliminated my IDT High definition Audio Codec that was working well so far and it has been replaced by a High Definition Audio with Microsoft drivers. This was causing Control panel to close automatically. You can check this using Device manager, Sound video and game controllers to find that a High Definition Audio is present (using a Microsoft driver) but there is not the IDT High Definition Audio Codec that used to be there for my laptop model.
To solve the problem I was able to retrieve from Dell downloads the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver suited for my laptop: IDT 92HD87B1 Audio Driver For Inspiron N5050 R308434, an auto executable file that reinstalls IDT High Definition Audio Codec. (If you have the same problem be sure to use only the driver suited for your laptop model)
After this driver re installation and reboot the Control Panel works fine as well as audio features, including the IDT high definition control panel that used to be present within the main Control Panel (Hardware and Sound) for my laptop model.
So I can open the app store and search for apps as long as its not in the search bar but as soon as I decide what app I want and click on it to download it closes the app store. Same thing happens when I try to use the search bar in the app store.

View 1 RepliesOn a Dell Vostro 3550 laptop, there were a few issues with Windows 7, so I erased the drive, did a fresh install of Windows 7 Pro, downloaded and installed all of the drivers from Dell. Then did a Windows 10 upgrade. When Windows 10 would first boot, it kept giving a 0x error. I did all of the Windows 10 updates and that error went away. But it would boot to a black screen.
I plugged an external monitor into the laptop and updated the BIOS to A12 and I have video on the laptop again. The main problem I have now is every minute or so, the screen will flicker and explorer restarts. As soon as it flickers, the task bar is gone for a second and then reappears. I have uninstalled the video and sound drivers but this didn't change anything. Is there something else to try to get Windows 10 to work correctly on this laptop?
I upgraded from Win7 to Win10 while back and not sure why but a lot of times when i right click on a folder to copy or rename the mouse cursor starts turning and 5-7 seconds later kicks me out and closes all open folders, and then i have to go and open that specific folder again.

Ok, so I am having a strange problem. In my PC's admin account, when I attempt to switch users by: Start Menu > (click user account) The start menu disappears / rolls back down. I cannot switch users this way, but this only affects my admin account. What can I do to make it work like normal?
View 1 RepliesNow Edge is not a browser I intend to use full time but was asked to try Netflix in it to figure out another problem, see my Netflix thread on that one.
Every time I go to open edge I get the blue window to come up and then everything for it closes down. Looking at task manager while this happens I see it jump from open app to background process to then fully closed, nothing listed in task manager.
Once in a while it stays open long enough that I can see the address bar and other of its UI elements start to render before it vanishes.
I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and am currently trying to create a installation USB to carry out a clean install.
Twice now it has reached 100% and closed without any trace of the download on the USB flash drive i've chosen.
Do I need to format the drive in particular way?
If I click the Search icon on the taskbar and proceed to type something, the search results show up just fine, but the second I move my mouse to click on one of them, the whole window closes. This effectively makes searching impossible. If I click the Action Center icon in the notification area, it comes up (but on the wrong monitor -- I have my taskbar at the top of my right monitor and the Action Center comes up on the right side of the left monitor) but the same issue from the Search window happens - the second I move my mouse away from the taskbar to actually interact with the Action Center, it disappears.
Moving the taskbar to the "traditional" place (bottom of the left monitor) gives me the exact same results. I wonder if this has something to do with my mouse settings in some way. In Windows 7 I had it so hovering the mouse over a window for a second would bring that window to the front without having to click.
