my Mouse, Keyboard and my audio interface get disabled a few times a day. at seemingly random intervals.
mouse and keyboard are mostly no problem because they reconnect instantly, with one exception today which forced me to restart as win10 refused to detect them again.
but most annoying is when it disconnects my audio interface because it never manages to reconnect without me manually pulling the usb plug out and in. some programs and game crashs when i do that, or just wouldnt play any sound without restarting the program in question.
i installed win10 a few weeks ago, its a clean install not an update. this problem hasnt occured ever before last week or something. so i suspect some auto-updates could have messed with it. i have not tinkered with usb drivers or anything like that,
Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.
Solutions tried: -Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version) -Installing/Removing Realtek software. -Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager -Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke. -Did system restore to various dates. -Restarted in safe mode -Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc. -Checked system, application and driver even logs. -Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray.. -Reinstalled chipset drivers -Rebooted about 30 times -Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues -Display Disabled Devices is enabled
I was working on my Qosmio x505 on my router as I have been for the past 5 years with no problems. This time the laptop randomly just disconnected from my WiFi and wouldn't reconnect! When I try to connect to the router it acts as if I have never once connected to it (asking me for the pass). Once I put the password it does its usual thing and then gives me the message that it cannot connect.
I should mention that my laptop connects to my Samsungs hotspot just fine. Also, all my other devices (2 in total) connect fine to my WiFi. I tried to disconnect them and then connect my laptop and it didn't work. I reinstalled the WiFi driver but it didn't work. I tried troubleshooting but when it asks me to look for available networks and I press the option it completely bypasses the step! I tried to restart the laptop and router, didn't work either. I got so desperate that I backed everything up on my external hard disk and did a total windows 10 reset. That didn't work either!
I am sure I am putting in the password correctly. Also, when I left-click on the WiFi it doesn't give me the option to "forget" the network.
Windows 10 has been working for me very well since it rolled out, I doubt that it is a problem with windows 10 but it may be.
After upgrading to Windows 10 I'm getting internet problems. Most pages are very slow to load, I often get connection timeouts and lag in some games, despite the ping not being really that high. I thought it could be a browser issue so tried other ones but it didn't work. I've already updated all the drivers, have the latest BIOS and deactivated the P2P sharing of Windows Updates in local connection and applied all the updates that came up with Windows Updates. Oddly enough, Steam downloads and voice chat don't present any problem.
I've already tried the connection troubleshooter, to no avail, and also tried to renew the IP using instructions in a Tom's article:
1. Press Windows Key + X and select “Command Prompt (admin)”. 2. Type ipconfig /release and hit Enter. 3. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter. 4. Type Exit and hit Enter."
But when I applied the commands I got the following message: "no operation can be performed on ethernet while it has its media disconnected" I'm connected using an Ethernet cable.
I am being bugged by a problem associated with USB ports apparently being intermittently disabled or disconnected.
The result is a cacophony of device disconnected sounds being played. It ultimately means the PC has to be shutdown. Occasionally a device connected sound will be heard as well.
I have heard that Win 10 is disabling or disconnecting USB ports to save power for tablets and such. Understandable for limited power availability but for PCs where power is always available this seems misguided.
I need to know if this is by design or can it be selected off via registry option.
I am getting numerous Device Disconnected sounds and occasionally Device Connected sounds.
I am trying to trace the source of these and started looking in the event logs.
There does not appear to be any events with Critical or Error tags showing.
Should the Device Disconnected event create a log entry?
If it does not can one be created to give me a clue as to what has been disconnected? Everything still appears to be working after a Device Disconnected sound is heard.
HW M/b: ASUS P9X79LE CPU: Intel i7-4930K 3.4GHz RAM: 32GB HDD: 2 x 2TB in RAID 1 HDD: 1 x 2TB O/S Windows 10 fresh install and updates to 10586.36
I am running Windows 10 Home version 1511 build 10586.63 on a Dell XPS L502X laptop. I have just bought a Bose SLIII bluetooth speaker. I can connect it up to the laptop no problem and it works well, however when I disconnect it I cannot reconnect them without removing the device and pairing it again. On my Android phone it is detected and automatically reconnects. Why I have to recreate the device each time I want to connect on the PC? If I do a Win+A then 'connect' and select the speaker device, it tries for a few seconds then I get a yellow message 'Couldn't connect'. When I remove the device and 'Pair' it again it connects immediately.
I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S10-3, it was upgraded from Windows 7 Starter to Windows 10 early august. Working find everything until updating to version 1511 in november, after rebooting with the new version the WiFi appears disconnected, it only shows airplane mode and I can only connect to internet by cable. I have tried changing drivers, disconnecting and reconnecting wireless, even going back to former Windows 10 version, etc. but no way. WiFi appears with a red cross!. Why WiFi worked so fine in the former version and why it´s disconnected in the new version?.
I have an odd issue where a Samsung SSD that is no longer in my system is still showing. The weird thing is if I bring up the properties, and then populate the fields of the drive (by pressing the populate button), it shows the capacity of the newer drive which is double the size. This drive is not a Samsung drive though. So I'm not sure what's going on here - see picture where it clearly states (at the top) that I'm looking at the properties of a 250GB Samsung drive, but the populated fields show it to be a 480GB drive.
I have a Dell Venue 8 Pro with 1gb pf RAM and it seems generally slower with Win 10 than Win 8.1. I've compared fresh installs of both OSes and Win 10 is noticeably slower to me. I'm considering putting this tablet back on 8.1 and not upgrading to 10.
both my partner and I have iphone 5s we've both backed our photo's up on the same windows 10 pc but it's merged everything according to date. Is there a simple way to separate the photos into two distinct folders?
Never seen this before in other OS, just noticed when i hook up my external WD Ultra Passport no icon shows in Devices and Printers just square white icon, same happens in notification area under Safely Remove. Also in Devices and Printers my Epson Printer no longer shows as a Printer Icon but a Folder icon with name of the printer. Maybe with printer it is driver or software related to Windows 10, but both of these devices never had this happen in Windows 8.1.
Both devices work properly and is seen in Device manager correctly.
I've been using Win10 since the general release. This was an update install on a Win7 laptop.Apart from a few issues (waking from sleep on scheduled tasks, lack of control on updates) I have a problem with external devices.
If I use several USB flash drives/harddrive I'm able to eject one or two but then I can't eject any others. When this happens I don't get the menu option to eject/safely remove the device through "explorer" and the drive doesn't appear in the "safely remove" icon on the task bar. I can still access the drive without issue just don't have any way to eject except to shutdown the laptop. If I reboot the laptop but leave the device attached the eject option reappears.
The laptop is fully patched and I can't work out what is happening and google hasn't revealed any similar problems except the normal "device is in use" message.
In win 8 if I made a change to a setting in mail or IE or added a favourite this information would sync to my other devices so everything was identical
with Mail or Edge in 10, they seem to run totally independent on my machine, no settings or favourites get synced, so I have to do the same config/changes on both devices
If syncing will come back at some point or are all devices independent now same MS account on both and all syncing options turned on
I installed Windows 10, and after signing in with my Microsoft account I remembered to rename the PC from the DESKTOP-blah name to something more memorable. However, when I look at the devices in my Microsoft account settings [URL] ... I still see the old name. I've removed the PC from the MS account devices, and switched to a local account on the PC then back to my MS account again, but it re-adds the PC with the old name each time.
How I get my MS account to forget about the old name altogether?
Since my PC was updated to Windows 10 I have been having trouble with USB devices not working. It appears the drivers do not load or do not work. Example is my Saitek rudder pedals. They appear to be fully installed and appear in the device list but they do not work. I go into the device manager and update the driver to the exact same driver and it works. I plug in my iPhone and it is recognized as an iPhone but appears in the Other Devices with a yellow exclamation. A check and it says there are no drivers. Manually find the drivers and update them and it is good until I pull it out. Next time I plug it in same thing. Phantom 3 pro wont show the disk drive and have to load in a generic disk drive driver and all good. This list goes on.
I've got the old volume mixer back, but it does not have the drop-down for inputs? With 4 various inputs now being forced drill down to the speaker cpl every time you want to set volume/mute/unmute an input, well that's a truly ridiculous regression in usability, I don''t suppose there is a reg hack to get the drop back??
I really don't get how things like this pass committee, "all in favor of putting the most useless volume mixer since dos in our flagship product?? Ok, the eyes have it, now get back to work we've got a lot removing., diminishing and disabling to do before this "upgrade" is ready!!"
I've just upgraded to build 10240 and have found I cannot access Devices and Printers and I need to install a new printer driver as well as remove unwanted drivers for devices I do not have. I've tried all sorts of ways to access the dialogue but none of them work. I've tried accessing it via Settings|Devices, the Control Panel, the USB icon in the System Tray and the Run dialogue entering control printers. Nothing has worked. The previous build (10162) worked OK but now I just can't access Devices and Printers whatever I do.
II am having trouble moving data to external sources via USB. It always happens partwaY through a transfer. It gives me messages like the transfer could not be completed, that the device is no longer found, or the files aren't available. Most times when I restart it the transfer gets a bit further than it did the time before, but never by much and when moving large amounts of files it makes transferring my media and data impossible.
Sometimes, after the computer is unsuccessful with the transfer the device is no longer recognized by the computer at all. It will call it an unknown device with ? next to it in the device manager. I try to install the drivers automatically but it just tells me I am using the newest drivers but will not register what the device is or allow me to view or transfer files on the device. Usually there is no problem transferring data from a usb connected drive to a different place on the same drive. It happens on both of my systems: An acer aspire one running windows 7, and a compaq presario running windows 10. It happens with all the usb ports (3 on each system). It happens even when I use several other cables to try to connect the device.
I seem to be able to copy files from the drives to the computer, but when writing to the drives it gets stuck. It happens with 2 external hard drives, 2 phones, 4 usb drives, a tablet, and sd cards. What is going on here? I don't think I could have that many bad cables and usb ports. If there is something wrong with write protection, wouldn't it just not transfer anything at all? I have checked for viruses. I can still play songs and look at pictures from the drives so I know the files aren't completely corrupted.
My external hard disks , and one MP3 player (all USB devices) are no longer recognized, nor appear on "This PC", after I upgraded my Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 OS. Other devices, such as my Android phone USB connection still works well. I made sure that the "Automatic download of driver software for devices" is turned on in the Device Installation Setup.
I use OneDrive on 3 Devices. The each show their own data that I uploaded to OneDrive. I don't use the sync feature and upload only files that I want to save on OneDrive. I want OneDrive to show files from all 3 devices so that when I sign onto any one device I see the files from the other devices. How do I set this up please?
I purchased this laptop some months ago using Windows 8.1. I had so many problems and hated the OS so much I upgraded to Windows 10. I have found that some devices I plug in via USB work just fine but some do not. It seems that the more sophisticated devices do not work.
I have a few HDDs from old laptops that I have put into caddies - these work fine connected by USB. However the following do not work at all when connected by USB.
They all light up indicating that they are charging however there is no drive registered in This PC, nothing appears in Devices and Printers, nothing that I can find anywhere that indicates that the PC detects a thing. There are no error messages or notifications. This is true for all the USB ports.
I've tried a few things over the last few weeks for each device as I've learned that another doesn't connect but I think it might be best to start from scratch and assume nothing about how far I have got. I'm finding ways round connecting the Galaxy and there's nothing too pressing right now on the HDDs that I need to access.
