Server Service Randomly Stops - Can't Connect To Shared Drives / Folders

Oct 15, 2015

I have 2 machines connected via a switch. They both have shared folders. They both run a piece of software. One machine acts as a master the other connects to it for data.

The issue is that the "Server" service is randomly stopping on the master and none of the shares work. The software on the second machine is crashing because it can't see the shares on the master. Windows explorer can't see the shares either.

Once this service has been started the software works fine. I have set the service recovery to restart on all failures but this hasn't resolved the issue. Why this stops or how to rectify the problem?

Drivers/Hardware :: SSD USB 3.0 Is Not Accessible

Oct 7, 2015

I have been using this SSD for almost 2 years now and I couldn't be happier until a couple of days ago, when my computer did not read it when I connected. (I use a Qosmio X70, win 10)

Here's what's happening. When I connect it shows up on the task bar as it's manufacturer's name rather than the name i assigned to it, does not show up in My computer, shows up at "USB mass storage device" in device manager, but does not show up in disk manager and finally it shows up (in it's manufacturer's name again) in "printers and hardware".

If I try to eject it from the task bar, nothing happens, when I remove the cable a message pop's up saying the device was in use by a program.

Furthermore when I try to uninstall it from "device manager" the app freezes and is not responsive.

Is there a way to fix it, I'd rather not lose the files in the SSD, but if it's a must it would be fine; I;d settle for just formatting it and getting it back as it was.

PS I tried to access the SSD on my windows 7, doesn't show up in any way there. Also changed the cable, nothing happened.

Networking :: Laptop Not Always Accessible In Home Network?

Feb 10, 2016

I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop at home. All 3 are joined in a homegroup, and all network and sharing settings are selected properly. All 3 computers have same windows accounts (passwords), same programs and same internet security.

The 3 computers show up in the network folder and can be accessed from any other computer. However access to the laptop is often denied, by error message 0x80070035 "network path not found"

From the laptop, each desktop is always accessible, no matter who is signed in.

From the desktops, the laptop is often not accessible (error message)

Networking :: Speed Router Settings Not Visible Or Accessible

Nov 5, 2015

I have an ASUS 2 speed router - it worked fine in Win 7, allowing me to target the 5.2 MHz stream toward my TV for streaming, and use the 2.5 MHz speed for the computers, tablets & phones.

Well, I lost my motherboard, and purchased a CPU with Windows 10. I cannot tell what the router is doing - Windows 10 seems to think I do not require this information, and will not allow me to even SEE the router settings, let alone change them. The stream to the TV seems fine - the CPU internet is slow.

Anyway - how I can access the router settings!

WiFi Panel And Window Start Menu Not Accessible

Dec 17, 2015

I'm having issues accessing both the Wifi Panel and the Windows Start Menu from task bar at the bottom of the home screen. When I left-click on with it does nothing. I can right-click on the icons but still unable to open either. Wifi shows a connection (Wifi icon) but still unable to connect to internet. Other items in the task bar are accessible with no problems. Unable to download/update anything because of the inability to access the internet.

Start Menu Folders Within Folders

Jan 2, 2016

On Windows 7 start menu you could have a folder such as EA Games and then sub folders within. For example a folder for tiger woods golf, a folder for say Fifa and so on. It seems on Windows 10 you can only have one folder level. I have tried creating sub folders but all the shortcuts within the sub folders all appear under the one top/master folder when actually viewing the start menu. Am I correct in this observation/restriction?

DVD Drives Not Working?

Dec 11, 2015

I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro. My computer is a desktop, cpu is amd tri core and I have 6Gb of memory. Ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 my dvd drives have not worked, they worked fine with Windows 7, I have searched the internet for answers, found 2 that I tried but they didn't work.

The first one I tried was to reinstall the drivers, I uninstalled the drivers for both dvd drives and then restated my computer, the last one I tried was a script change to the registry, where you go into regedit and then into HKEY_Local_MachineSystemCurrentControlSetServicesatapi, then you create a folder called Controller0, then you left click and click on NEW and type in, 'EnumDevice1' as 'RegDWORD' and then modify to binary 1 hex, exit regedit and restart your computer.

I also found a script file that I think was suppose to do the same thing if you were uncomfortable editing the registry manually, I down loaded the file double clicked on it and then restarted my computer. They still do not work properly. I am just about to go back to Windows 7, if I can get them to work I'll stay with windows 10. I have reached my wit's end and don't know what to do next

Reading USB Drives

Aug 1, 2015

I am on an iMac using Bootcamp & I have just upgraded from Win 7 to 10. Working GREAT! My only problem is Win 10 cannot read my 2 x WD 3Tb USB hard drives.

Error message" The parameter is incorrect". In Disk management it says the drives are active but RAW. I have tried the same two drives on another Win 10 & Win 7 machine & they are showing as NTFS & can be read, so no fault with the drives. I have tried changing the drive names etc but no change. So why does one machine refuse to read these?

I cannot find any solution apart from reformatting the drives which I do not want to do.

Possible To Merge Two Extra Drives Together

Aug 30, 2015

I'm currently using Windows 10 and have a 1TB hard disk. It has been divided into 4 parts. One for OS, another for it's drivers, and the rest 2 primary partitions for media storage.

Now, I need to install Ubuntu as well and I'm not sure how to go about it. I have a few queries like: Is it possible to merge the two extra drives together and in turn creating a partition for Ubuntu. Is that even possible. Should the new partition for Ubuntu be logical or primary, and the reason for choosing the same.

Installation :: Upgrading Through WU With 2 Drives

Jul 18, 2015

Ok, I know when doing a clean install or 1st time installation to disconnect the 2nd internal drive.

I have been testing Win10 on my laptop that only has one drive, but my desktop has an SSD OS drive and a 2TB spinner for the Libraries , File History and Macrium Reflect images. I have only started using 2 drives(before this I had never done it) at the end of last year and never had to upgrade or reinstall Win 8.1 update.

Question: When I run the upgrade to Win10, through Windows Update(whenever it comes down to me), Do I/Should I disconnect the 2nd internal(and redirect everything after), or can I just leave it connected, with no ill effects?

Drivers/Hardware :: 3 DVD Drives On The Same Bus

Jan 26, 2016

I have a Windows 7 PC with 3 DVD drives. Imgburn shows them as connected to 3 different SATA busses: [2:0:0], [3:0:0], and [4:0:0].

After upgrading to Windows 10, all of them ended up on the same bus, [2:0:0], like this:

Why did that change? I tried connecting them on different SATA plugs, but they are always shown on that [2:0:0] bus. The thing is, I really need them to be on different busses, because of a particular requirement of a legacy application I use.

System And OS Drives Are Different - Can They Be Merged?

Oct 5, 2015

This problem started when I moved my system from a Small Business Server to Windows 8. As part of this move I changed out several components (motherboard, CPU, memory, added a HDD). I only connected the drive I wanted to install Windows 8 on. When I did so it said I did not have a proper boot disk (don't remember the exact phrase). Anyway, I connected all of the drives back and then the system booted just fine into Windows 8. I then noticed only 3 of my drives were visible to Windows. I tracked down the missing drive, disconnected it thinking it was bad and tried to boot the machine. No dice - missing boot drive. So, I figured out the boot.ini and other required boot files resided on that drive while Windows was on another.

Fast forward to present day. I have upgraded to Windows 10 and I now want to install an SSD as the primary drive and remembered...I still have this issue of a 1TB drive that is just sitting there taking up SATA cables and a lot of available space just to be the boot drive. I've come to the conclusion I have two options - clean install Windows 10 with just the SSD installed to force everything there during that process (I hope) or (my preference) move the boot files from the wasted drive over to my current OS drive and then simply clone that drive onto the SSD.

No Notification Banners For Removable Drives

Aug 9, 2015

Ok, I thought this was just bitlocker stuff but its all removable drives.

When I connect a removable drive I don't get a notification banner. I get a sound and the notification goes straight to Action Center instead of showing the banner. I've gone in and disabled and renabled all the notifications, Ive made sure both "Banner" and "Sounds" are enabled for everything, but still nothing.

When I get an email in Outlook I get the banner like I'm supposed to, others programs like Logitech Gaming Software are also showing banners, so it seems like a device connection thing at the moment.
