All Screens Are Small When Returning From Screensaver
Sep 25, 2015
I use a 32" LED TV as a monitor. I have for the last 4 years happily through Windows 7 and 8.1.
Since moving over to Windows 10 if I walk away from my desktop for an extended period my screen is switched off as I expect but, when i jiggle my mouse the screen wakes up okay but ALL my screens have been resized much smaller.
This effects Firefox (full screen), Skype and even my 4 screens on my Arduino microprocessor IDE.
I have my display setting to "turn off after 30 minutes" and "sleep" never. Strangely it has to be much longer than that for the effect to happen. If I go away for, say, 50 minutes. Come back, jiggle the mouse - everything comes back okay. But if I go away for 90 minutes or more, for instance, all the screens are semi minimised when I jiggle mouse and the monitor (TV) wakes up.
Very annoying to have to resize all my screens every time. I have checked all my settings (they are unchanged for years) and it never happened before I updated to W10.
After having no problems with my own upgrade to Win10, I upgraded my dad's laptop last week. It seems to have been successful, but every so often (every couple of minutes, but not regularly) it just takes me back to the desktop.
So every time I boot windows 10 it seems to think I want that useless language bar (who doesn't know what language their machine is using?) after having disabled it every time prior.
What files to delete in order to force it to be unable to activate the language bar?
also it seems win 10 isn't letting me delete the u.s or n.z language packs despite only ever using the U.K pack for got knows what reason.
I have a small Acer computer that runs a weather program that takes data from my weather station and updates my weather page on the internet. I bought the computer new with Windows 8 and upgraded to Windows 10, then did a clean install of 10. Everything is working great except for one thing, I can't delete files, they keep returning to the folder.
I will occasionally use the snipping tool to save a file as jpeg and then use it to update my Facebook page. I also download the latest update to my Weather program. I go to these folders, Download and Documents, I delete several file and later that day they have returned. I have even used Bit Defender File Shredder to delete them and they still come back. I've been a Windows 7 user for many years and never ran into this issue.
I have a folder that I created for resized images. I now do not need (Want) this folder. I can delete it, but it returns. I have tried all I can find to get myself rid of this folder...Safe-Mode, unlocker, moving to another location, renaming, going to target, by-passing recycle bin and can't remember what else to no avail.
I have scanned with Avira, MalwareBytes, Bleeping-computer, SpyBot, and superAntiSpyware. No Nasty`s found yet. Maybe not to worry about, But sure would like it gone.
Windows Search returning no results on one of my external harddrives. I have already:
Tried indexing the HDD and rebuilding.Non-indexing and rebuilding.Indexing only specific folders on the HDD and rebuilding.Specifically disabling indexing for this drive in the drive's properties.Checked that I have the appropriate permissions on the drive (they are identical to my other HDDs).
Crude example of my problem:
I am looking for the following file, A:Example est.txt.I am inside the A:Example folder.I search for "test", "*" or "txt".It says there are no results.
And it says "no results" instantly - it doesn't appear to even try.
I do not have a second drive with sufficient space to move the contents to do a format - so I'm looking for non-destructive solutions.
I have a new Toshiba C55-C5241 Laptop, which came pre-loaded with Windows 10. (See Specs)
I clean installed Windows 10 last weekend. All went very well. I just started loading programs this weekend.
I started noticing the blue screen stops yesterday. These happen coming out of Sleep. I probably never would have noticed these before because I was not leaving the machine alone long enough for it to go into Sleep. So unfortunately I do not know when the behavior started - from the beginning or after some software installation.
Here are my reports: SCULLY-Sun_08_30_2015__64736_97.zip
Blue screens are mostly "Kernal Data Inpage Error" and the more serious "Critical Process Died", both I understand to be processor related.
I did not have the presence of mind to test or check any of this early on. But I do have images of the original factory installation and of the fresh, clean install (before any customization or software installs). I do not believe that I ever tried Sleep Mode on the original factory installation.
The stops happen very consistently when on battery power, less so when plugged in. For a while I thought they did not occur when plugged in - this was not the case. They seem to be more consistent when manually going into sleep, not so much when it goes into sleep from Power Settings.
All of the drivers in the clean install were the same as the drivers in the factory installation (at the time I finished). I did not turn off automatic driver update for a few days. I will check the driver list for changes later.
Software installed (in order) : Avast!, Firefox, Office 2010 (H&S), Nitro Reader, VLC (64 bit), Handy Address Book (a prog I've been using for years), Malwarebytes, CCleaner (never run), and Winamp. I am thinking of restoring the clean install image today (start over). Just to see if the behavior started then.
After returning from long sleep I find the start menu doesn't work. Also, right clicking on taskbar item has no effect. When this happens I need to restart
Today during restart I got message that app "Elera" (or something like that) was preventing restart. After restarting I couldn't find this app in the start menu or in Control Panel Progs and Features! I did find a McAfee app in the Start Menu, but it was not in Control Panel list.
I have installed some new fonts and after installation my desktop menus apperas with a small rectangle. I already installed the Windows 8.1 Font Pack but did not solve the issue ....
I updated from Windows 7 to 10 last night and now I cannot get my Screensaver to work or get my screen to turn off in the power settings. Something must be causing the screen to stay awake.
my screensaver is currently not working in windows 10 and since its not working it wont let the display turn off or go into sleep mode. When I was using windows 7 the screensaver would work fine and ever since i upgraded it it will not work now.
As the title says, I'm unsure as to how to get my 2nd monitor to replicate my main computers screen saver. Whenever my screen saver is on it only displays on the main computer while the 2nd monitor is black. I have it on extend displays, in case that's a question.
Any fix to get the screensaver to work or the very least to get the screen to turn off. I have the screen saver set to 4 minutes of inactivity and The screen to turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity.
I get to the screen saver and the mouse and keyboard don't work so no way to get to enter pin screen this happened after multiple installs from win 7 ultimate (originally on my machine) to me purchasing pro version clean install. it works for between 5 and 10 boots then bang I am running a dell quad 4 2.7 MHz machine with 8 mb ram have loaded win 10 5 times and on different drives no difference just when I think problem is solved BANG it bites me in the butt again have a Microsoft wireless mouse and keyboard and did download the latest win 10 drivers.?is my machine to fast and the screen saver screen is loading before the drivers?
I have an old PC I use for testing things. I want to install Win10 on it before installing it anywhere else. But this PC has an 80GB SSD C drive. Currently it has only 12GB free. I can free up maybe 6 or 7 more GB by removing a bunch of USER temp data (if I'm brave enough), but that is still way below the Win10 system requirements. I have 2 additional internal drives, 512GB each. (Seemed like a lot 5 years ago.) The D drive has over 400GB free. Is the Win10 installation smart enough to use space on the D drive, or am I going to have to replace my small SSD with something bigger?
I have a 10 inch linx tablet which shipped with Windows 10. The font / text size just seems totally wrong especially when browsing in edge.
Whether I'm in tablet mode or not, when I search on Google for example with the tablet in portrait mode, the results are just tiny. I then have to double tap on a blank space for it to format the screen properly so it zooms to fit. It's like the equivalent of using a mobile phone to search the web but using a desktop site instead of it's mobile designed equivalent.
Am I missing something? I have perfect eye site and I'm finding it a strain to use. The resolution is set to what it's supposed to be and the default, anything else yields worse results.
Shouldn't edge browser request the mobile version and more tablet friendly websites when in tablet mode? As I say, it's like browsing every website in desktop mode on a phone.
I have a new Dell Inspiron 15 series 7000 which can with Windows 10. I am still learning my way around 10 and I'm no computer wiz. Some windows which open are very tiny. I am not referring to the size of the icons and text as it appears in some windows. Most windows are fine but a few are hardly legible. This is not browser specific, as one of the places I encounter it is when I do a Remote Desktop Connection. I have tried changing all of the display settings I can find but these adjust things across the board and once I get the small stuff large enough to see, much of what I do becomes way too large to fit on the monitor and is a real pain.
I updated today from Windows 7 to 10, and everything seems to be working great except for a screensaver I purchased a few years ago. I know it's a relatively minor problem, but it worked fine on 7.
The screensaver worked by taking a screenshot when initialized, and displayed various effects over that image.
Now when I attempt to run the screensaver I get the following error:
I'm not running any other programs whatsoever, so I wonder if a core Windows process is now interfering with this?
I'll try to use a folder with pictures as screensaver - which I had in WINXP and WIN7. But I receive a message, that the folder can't be used because it's not in the right place. Where should I store this folder to work as screensaver in WIN10?
I know some people have had issues with the screensaver not working. In my case all the screensavers work, except the one I want -pictures. I have always used pictures as a screensaver with other windows os with no problem.
What happens is I can see the pictures scrolling in the mini monitor it shows you, but when I hit preview or when it goes into action, the screen goes black. I have tried using different folders in different drives and using different pictures, but still nothing but black.
I have upgraded from Win8.1... It seems all is workin +10, but just a few days ago I see this thing. I set the screensaver to 10 minutes delay, I choosse the 3D animation and bingo . nice like in y old Win 8.1. The problem is simple. When I shutoff my pc and start again the screensaver settings change again to 1 minute( default) and no 3D sacreensavere any more !! I must set again to X minutes, select the animation , apply and save and this over and over . Never problems before with my Win 8.1. I use the same hardware and apps. Everything is the same on my PC than before.
When I set the screen saver to what I want, it works just fine as long as I leave the computer running. However, if I shut down the computer and bring it back at some later time, the screen saver will not work.
