View 1 RepliesI figured out on the pro version but the home version doesn't have GPedit.msc. I disabled Defender but I still see antimalware services executable running in Processes.
View 2 RepliesWindows Defender is shown both running AND disabled. I have no third-party security or firewall.
I am unable to select this service here (msconfig)-(but rightly set as 'Automatic' in services.msc) nor am I able to set Normal Startup: on applying, all changes are cancelled.
I must have removed some needed startup program or app...?
HOWEVER, Windows Defender DOES start on boot and all is swell. No log errors except for Cortana, which is broke and shows a registry error, but that is another question, I think. In case it is not, here's the log:
Activation of app Microsoft.Windows.Cortana_cw5n1h2txyewy!CortanaUI failed with error: Invalid value for registry See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.
I have found that my CPU usage is running at 30%, due to Service Host: Local System (15). I have the list of the 15 processes, but how do I find which one is using all the power.
View 1 RepliesMy printers have stopped working and I get the message that Windows can't open Add Printer. The local print spooler service is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine. I've restarted the machine several times with no solution. How can I restart the print spooler?
View 2 RepliesSo I've gotten fed up enough with the terrible windows search system.
I went into services.msc and disabled the windows search service; then restarted my computer.
However, "Cortana" is still listed in my task manager taking up 50mb of memory.
How do I kill Cortana?
For some reason, my printer doesn't show up in applications such as Microsoft Word or Libre Office, although I'm sure that it's connected properly to the computer because it still lets me scan documents. When I troubleshoot the printer, I get this error message: "The Print Spooler service isn't running".
View 6 RepliesI have never seen anything like this. I noticed the volume icon was missing so I went to go activate it, but the icons are all switched around. It also says "Audio Service is not running" but I checked under "services" and it clearly is (and I can hear audio!). I even restarted it to be sure.

For the last couple of days, when automatically running Facebook of of my START apps list, after Facebook opens for a while it just cancels out without any warning. No problems before this. However, if I run Facebook thru the Internet after signing "ON", no problem. I uninstalled the Facebook from START and re-installed it from Windows Store and it installed with no problem. However, when I try to run it automatically from START, the same happens. It runs for a while, and whenever it feels like, it just kicks me out and cancels. As I stated above, this has only been happening the last two days.
View 1 RepliesI have an application that allows editing with another app. The old way to find the executable is to right-click on the icon that opens the app, then properties. How do you find the exe in win 10??

View 1 RepliesIs there any way to activate dreamscene without using a portable executable file that is always running? I know DreamScene activator worked for Windows 7, but I can't get that to work for Windows 10.
View 2 RepliesI have seen people sending executable & linkable file with phone numbers in Whatapp which after clicking automatically ask us to add to contacts. How these files are created and what is the software name?
View 2 RepliesI'm running the RTM on a netbook and have noticed that, unlike in Windows 7/8/8.1, I'm no longer able to hit Start and type in an executable. I have a bunch of portable apps that I typically type in and pull up. Now, the Start menu search pulls up ever OTHER file except the executable. It's very annoying and don't see why this shouldn't work.
What's worse, is if I pin the app to the start menu, it doesn't search it then. Say, I pin "puttyportable.exe" as a shortcut (and rename it to just PuTTY) to the start menu. Typing in "putty" gives me nothing - just the same associated files that were in the puttyportable folder (ini files, etc).
How to track services via eventlog name in cmd.so the main problem is I can't seem to find these services on services.msc ... I want to know how to track these services via cmd, how I don't want you guys to tell me what type of service is this i want too know how I can track this own my own?
View 9 RepliesI installed windows 10 and now my brother HL-L2380DW doesn't want to print. It keeps on saying "Print spooling service is not running"
View 2 RepliesThis happens when I exited a game while running Chrome and playing a video at the same time.

I check and found this annoying code in the Event Viewer. The Event ID code is the same but with different explanation and usually come in group..This happened to me usually after restart....
1. Event ID 7031.... The Sync Host_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
2. Event ID 7031....The Contact Data_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
3. Event ID 7031....The User Data Storage_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
All these are on the Error Level... not warning.
This evening I did a clean install after experiencing other problems. I got 10 installed and up and running fine; let me be clear, as far as I know, everything was working just fine. The first thing I installed was Chrome. No sooner had I got Chrome synced with my Google account, I got a BSOD citing "System_Service_Exception (ks.sys)" and it rebooted.
After that, every time it booted back up, within seconds of getting to the login page the same BSOD occurred. I've done some googling and I can't find a report quite like this nor any solution. I'm a big fan of Windows and I do really like 10 when it works, but I'm getting very close to reverting back to 8.1.
I had also plugged in a USB drive around the same time as installing Chrome but did not access it, if that is relevant.
I bought a new PC a few weeks ago with Window 10. Worked fine for a while and now when I switch on and type my password I get a message in the bottom right hand corner of the screen stating "Failed to connect to a Windows Service"
I googled this problem and the advice given was to run the command prompt as an administrator and type netsh>winsock reset
However, when I right click on the command prompt icon and click run as an administrator nothing happens. A few minutes later an error message pops up on the screen stating "The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion"
If I left, click on the command prompt icon the command window opens immediately.
To be more complete:
"The Delivery Optimization service did not shut down properly after receiving a preshutdown control."
After seeing a few metadata staging failures, I implemented the fix in the second post at this link:
[URL]
I haven't seen those errors since. However, I now see the delivery optimization service error at EVERY shutdown.
More annoyingly, the Delivery Optimization service is supposed to be the one that downloads windows updates from other PC's. I went into Settings -> Update & Security -> Advanced Options -> Choose How Updates are Delivered and turned that option off. Annoyingly, the service still starts and I still get the error.
Why I could be getting this error? No one else has seemed to get this error after applying the fix mentioned above. Googling for this error turns up approximately nothing.
I messed up primary user profile during the fixing of Additional User Profile issues. Now I can't login the Windows 10 using any of users. restore previous point.
View 2 RepliesSometimes the workstation service doesn't start. Without this service, the local network does not find other computers, printers, and network storage.
View 2 RepliesThe service is starting at boot up but then stops. I can manually start the service and it starts but then stops unexpectedly in less than a minute. Here is the event viewer log. may need to recover to Win8.1 as I need printers.
Update... I have 3 PC's (2 laptops, 1 HP & 1 Dell & 1 Dell Desktop). The Dell Desktop printers are working fine but the printer spooler service on both laptops starts and stops unexpectedly. Tried unchecking fast startup under Power and on one laptop tried LPD Print Service & LPR Port Monitor under turn Windows features on under Control Panel Programs & Features..
I have itunes, but I had to upgrade it to the newer version, but it did not let me because of problems. I did MS troubleshoot and it told me this:
