Apps :: App Button Grayed Over

I am running Windows 10 on my Dell Desktop. I am trying to download some apps via the Microsoft Store.
I am getting the "Free" button (to download) greyed over. It is happening with every app.
Whenever I try to open most non-Microsoft programs and many Windows 10 features -- like System Restore, for example -- I get the 'User Account Control' pop-up with the "YES" button grayed out, dead, so it can't be clicked. Only the "NO" button in the pop-up is live and clickable so in the end I just can't do anything in the computer anymore.
That happened out of the blue a few days ago and it's the very worst consequence of my making the stupid mistake of linking my Microsoft account to my Windows sign in.Now I also can neither find nor access my Administrator account, or make any changes to accounts for that matter.
Tried System Restore through 'Settings/Recovery/Advanced Startup' and it didn't work. Then I tried Windows 10 'refreshing' (re-installing). That not only didn't solve the UAC popup problem but added a huge new one to the whole mess: I lost all my non-Microsoft programs (Advanced System Care, Lightshot, etc), and now can't install them back anymore.
Yesterday I spent around an hour and a half online with a US-based Tech person from Microsoft's Help Desk. Despite her best efforts, she couldn't find a solution, and in the end I was told the only way out for me was to wipe my hard disk out and reinstall the original OS that came with my laptop -- in that case, it was Windows 7. However, this computer didn't come with a Reinstall disk; it only has a copy of Windows 7 in the 'D' drive so if I wipe everything out I won't have a way to reinstall the original OS.
A bit of background info: I have installed Windows 10 about 5 times.
The first 4 it would only work until the first reboot because during the setup phase it would automatically install a faulty driver and on the first available restart my Windows would break and I would have to reinstall to get the laptop working again. However all metro apps worked fine before the first reboot.
The 5th time I switched my internet off and window 10 setup finished without internet. That means the faulty driver didn't automatically get installed so I had a chance to switch off the automatic driver installation. However it also meant Windows 10 didn't get activated during the setup phase. I switched internet on, activated Windows 10. Now my computer works fine but all Metro apps are greyed out and not working. For some of them the application crashes and others give me the error "This app can't open". I tried all obvious solutions
sfc /scannow and the DISM commandReinstalling them using: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml"}Reinstalling them using PowershellStarting the Application Identity and App Readiness Services and a couple of other random suggestions I saw online. For me nothing has worked. I tried digging deeper and looking at the event logs the error message when trying to open the store is:
Activation of application Microsoft.Getstarted_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App failed with error:
The application cannot be started. Try reinstalling the application to fix the problem. See the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log for additional information.
Looking at the Microsoft-Windows-TWinUI/Operational log:
Activation of the app Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked with error 0x80073CFC because its package is in state: 66.
I have my Windows 10 for around 3 days now, the thing is, in the second day after my computer froze when i was playing counter strike, everything in the task bar but my shortcuts stopped working, they dont open anymore, but when i click it, the cursor blue loading circle shows up but nothing happens.
View 1 RepliesI upgraded on 7/29 and none of my Store Apps work. Store app is grayed out with a download arrow. I have run sfc /scannow and DISM restore health commands. There are no issues. I saw a command to fix the issue in another part of the forum, which I ran and completed but still no joy. That command:
Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "C:Program FilesWindowsAppsMicrosoft.WindowsStore_2015.8.3.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbweAppxManifest.xml"
I have gone though Brink's excellent Tutorials on re-registering Store and all apps. When reregistering Store, attachment "Error Store Reg" gives the details.
When I try and re-register all apps, attachment "StoreAppReReg-error" shows the errors.
When I run wsreset.exe, I get the error "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches. The application cannot be started. Try reinstalling the application to fix the problem". I have been reluctant to do this in case I lose StoreApp altogether after removal and cannot install again.
When I click a zip file all the options are grayed out. If I right click I do not have an Extract option. If I click Send to Compressed (Zip ) folder it makes another copy in the same folder. What is the next step? How do I open zip this?
View 2 RepliesSo I've just upgraded to Windows 10 and I can't seem to install any apps from the store, there is no Install button? I click on an app(facebook for example), the facebook app page loads but no Install button appears. Also the blue loading dots just keep spinning.
I've tried everything from wsreset.exe to cleaning out the C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder. I've also tried refreshing the pc and deleting and re creating the user account with no success.
I've installed windows 10 a few days ago but when I go to the store app. there is no install button showing. I've tried the wsreset.exe as some people have suggested on other sites but nothing has changed.
View 3 RepliesAt some point my "All apps" button has stopped working. Clicking on it causes the apps list to flash very very briefly then dumps me back to home screen. Everything else seems to work OK.
Where the links in that list of apps is stored? I'm thinking one of the links is broken causing the whole list to shut down, and if I remove links from the list one by one I can find it. That's the only thing I can think to try.
Unfortunately no restore points exist and Repair tools like Startup Repair Etc.
When I try to uninstall Windows 10 "Photos" App (which takes over to open all photos and makes difficult opening photos with another app) it will not uninstall. (The "Uninstall" button is disabled.)
View 3 RepliesI have a problem with Cortana not opening after pressing the mic button on the taskbar and "Hey Cortana" does not work also. This is a clean install of windows 10 on a Lenovo laptop, I had no problems with Cortana before.
View 9 Repliesi have recently updated to windows 10 and i have the same problem that i had in windows 8. I've never been able to solve it. The option "show app notification" is disabled and i have the message "Some setting are managed by your organization". Attached you can find a screenshot of my problem.
View 2 RepliesAnyway to make start button list all my applications without having to to click all apps and remove the abc categories?
View 2 RepliesIn Apps downloaded from the Windows Store (such as Words With Friends or a million other apps - not regular 'Windows Applications' such as Photoshop or something), they run in a special 'shell' that is obviously controlled by the OS. There are now 4 buttons in the top right (Close | Max/Restore | Minimize | Full Screen - from right to left). All the normal windows shortcuts work for all the known buttons but none of the possible/expected key combinations work for the 'Full Screen' button (such as ALT+ENTER or WINDOWS+UP several times). The button looks like two arrows pointing outward at a 45 degree angle. If you ARE in full screen, they look the same but the arrows point inward.
View 1 RepliesThe left-click on my Start icon has stopped working and several reboots have not resolved the situation. My Windows key doesn't work either. I cannot launch Edge either. I'm running Windows 10 Home on a new Dell laptop.
What the heck is going on and how do I fix it? I've got apps that don't appear on my desktop which I am completely unable to use now.
For what it's worth, I can right-click the Start button since my latest reboot but I can't left-click it. (On the previous reboot, I couldn't right- or left-click it.)
I need this machine working ASAP because I use it for my job and my shift just started!
Woke up this morning fired up toshiba laptop, windows started to update as usual.now I can`t use windows start button in left hand corner or access apps or any shortcuts in taskbar. right click on windows icon still opens desktop. is it possible to correct the problem by uninstalling the latest update, if so how?
View 9 RepliesI just did a clean install on W10 and change my bios to UEFI (which it supports.) I'm having this intermittent problem with the Windows "Start" Button in the lower left. It just stops working - left clicking doesn't do anything, although right-clicking does. I just have the basics installed now.
Also, my Windows "Start" key on my keyboard stops working as well. I checked on a keyboard checker and the key itself is fine. I have to log out/back in to get it to work again.
I have poor eyesight and have setup high contrast to see things better in windows 10.Also set the font to 10 point bold and tried the 125% setting. In windows 7 I did not have this issue, I used the classic theme, and just set the fonts all bold, no problem. I think I set the DPI also to a larger setting.
But I have a problem setting up personalization settings when it comes to colors now.It does not seem to affect windows apps already installed on the computer, but .3rd party programs mostly. One in mind is the information tab in the AMD Catalyst Drivers for instance. When I open this up the background is white and the text is an unreadable light gold color. In general if I set my theme to a normal without high contrast most of the text in all apps and programs is a light gray color, which I can barely read. I've played with my ASUS monitor settings some and been able to get more contrast.
My system icons icons are greyed out, like Volume and Power, so I can not enable them. After setup they work just fine, then they disappear. It is either caused by my settings or: I wonder, when custom power and sound card drivers gets installed, they get lost?
SFC scan does nothing. By playing with settings and closing explorer.exe, volume icon appeared and stated, that there is no audio service running, when I moved the slider, the message and red X disappeared, but after restarting explorer.exe, it was gone again. My sound card audio service, Windows audio are running. Seems this problems happens: System Icons Greyed Out for Windows 10 - Microsoft Community
I've been using Windows 10 for a few weeks now and I was looking to get Cortana to work. However, Cortana tells me that I need to allow it to access contacts. I clicked settings and I saw that all the settings were on, but were grayed out.
When I take a look at some of the other settings, some are also grayed out and some are not. When I go to the general tab, I get this:
Sometimes if I look through the privacy settings, the settings app just crashes for no reason without warning and I'm left confused and unable to enable Cortana.
How i turn on 'grayed out' Volume & Network settings on windows 10 updated HP PC?
View 9 RepliesI have a brand new Dell Inspiron 7348 2 in 1 on Windows 10. I just noticed today that it would not auto rotate and that the option for Rotation Lock in Action Center and in the Display Setting is greyed out. My computer had all the latest updates and I just updated the drivers and the problem still persists. The problem did not occur 12/6/15 so I thought that one of the updates since then had been the cause. I uninstalled them one by one to no avail. On a possibly similar note, when I boot up, airplane mode is automatically enabled and Action Center is in Quiet Hours, even though it doesn't show it. I can resolve those both by clicking their respective icons but thought that it might me related to my current problem with rotation lock.
View 7 RepliesI was trying to upgrade from windows 7 to windows 10 and "Keep personal files only" grayed out. I dont want to do a clean install.
View 1 RepliesI can't activate the power and volume icon because there gray. I've tried the regedit method. The icons came back but disappeared at the next booth. Is there a fix to that problem?
View 6 RepliesI have windows 10 pro and if I go to settings, then system, then notifications and actions and then turn system icons on or off, I'm presented with a list of various settings to turn on and off, one of the settings is location, it is off and it is greyed out. I've restarted numerous times....
View 9 RepliesI'm using Windows 10 laptop. I can't turn on the location, because it's grayed. I tried to fix that. But I couldn't.
